Review: A Naked Holiday

A Naked Holiday
by Mystique Devereaux

Janie and Zane have some work to do—they’re busy with their restaurant and their sex life is stale since the kids have gone off to college. Will the time alone in a cabin allow them to finally break free of the routine or will being together unveil heartbreak and betrayal?

Janie and Zane have been married for thirty years and have six grown children but they still have the hots for each other. They plan this holiday to try to repair any damage to their relationship due to recent strains in their marriage. Each of them attributes the tension to a misconception that they have about the other.

What struck me the most about this story is that they each thought something dreadful about the other, but they had enough love for each other and respect for their relationship, that they take this time to confront the issues and deal with them. And they do; no whining, no recriminations, just a straight-forward “why?” with the expectation — and receipt — of an honest answer in return. How refreshing is that? Then there is sex. They recognize that their bedroom activities are not as steamy as they could be, so they each do research (separately, of course) to figure out how to spice things up.

Zane is totally in love — and in lust — with Janie. When she says something derogatory about her physical appearance he admonishes her for it. Janie is also determined, but a little more insecure when it comes to the issues and if she can overcome them. Her tentative approach to reconnecting with Zane and her direct, in-your-face confrontation with him displayed a very complex, very realistic woman. I love her!

The reader has the chance to hear both of their thoughts, and each is equally lusty in his/her desire for the other, almost uncontrollably! For a long-married couple who are probably fifty-something, all I can think is, how cool is that? The respect and genuine emotion displayed between the two shines throughout the story. I don’t think I’ve ever read a stirring romance about a middle-aged married couple until today, and I’m so glad I did. This exceptionally touching romance had me sighing all the way to the end.

The Cougar Meets Her Master
by KyAnn Waters

Taylor Davis is turning 40. Her high powered job leaves little room for romance outside of her high powered vibrator that sleeps under her pillow. No pillow talk allowed. And no complaints from her. The rabbit never quits before she’s done, doesn’t complicate her calendar, and Taylor doesn’t have to concoct excuses to make it go home after orgasms.

Enter Colt Foster. Has the bitch of the Beau Monde Hotel and Casino met her match? The hot, young detective has his own rules…and expects Taylor to play by them. Can she say no when Colt slaps on the cuffs? Does she want to…will he let her?

No thirty-something or forty-something woman can resist a May (man)-December (woman) romance and this one delivers in a big way. In Colt Foster, Taylor Davis is expecting a pimply-face eighteen-year-old nephew of her best friend, but instead, the late-twenties Adonis catapults her pulse and throws her moral code into chaos. Taylor is a hard-core career almost-40 woman in control of her surroundings and is a self-proclaimed ‘bitch’. What better challenge for Colt, who is determined to possess and dominate her?

The dynamics between the two are perfect. generic levitra pill It comes in the form of pills prescribed to solve an erectile dysfunction issue in men. It’s one thing to fantasize about a younger man, but another to actually do something about it, right? And the familial aspect — even though it’s her friend’s relative — could be a little unsettling and would give most women pause. His demand for her submission confuses her — she’s always in control, so why is she so turned on by his demands, and why is she compelled to please him? Taylor’s reactions to these dilemmas and her realization of the possibilities with Colt are addressed realistically and logically and pump up the tension between the two.

Colt is just… Hot. He sees her, he wants her; he goes after her. This character totally works for me! He relishes the challenge of dominating an alpha-female like Taylor so he presses his agenda with maximum heat, forcing her to gradually forgo her inhibitions. Their intimate encounters are steamy and pretty graphic, but well written for maximum effect. The compatibility they discover while together strengthens the development of the relationship.

The BDSM aspects of the story are more subtle than you sometimes see, that is, D/s is displayed more as a state of mind for Taylor and Colt as opposed to utilizing many overt props and activities associated with a BDSM lifestyle. So if you’re not sure about it, this would be a rousing introduction for someone who has never read something in this genre. The characters are interesting, the sex steamy and the HEA promises future delights. Who could ask for more?

Review: Naughty In Norway

Naughty in Norway
By Layla Chase

A job promotion temporarily relocates Texan Dissa Booth to Oslo, Norway where she treats herself to a weekend mountain trip. The athletic moves of her blond, blue-eyed Viking of a ski instructor, Rolf Torger, set her lustful thoughts racing. Dissa cuts loose and lets him know she’s interested in any moves he might make besides on the slopes. Will one night of sexy naughtiness be enough? Or does a chance exist for more?

This was a nice little story about a vacation fantasy we’ve all probably had a version of at some point. Dissa is away at a ski resort in Norway, where she is working as an American in Oslo. I appreciated that the author laid some groundwork before jumping into the sex. I thought that added to the story, and it certainly added to my own enjoyment of it.

Rolf is very sexy, physically. The length of the story didn’t really allow for much emotional development of him, but I liked him nonetheless. Dissa is looking for a good time on her holiday, but isn’t so brazen about it that it’s unrealistic. I liked her actions, and the dialogue was good, too.

The only drawback was the mechanics of things. At times they weren’t clear to me. They were in the hot tub, then he was out of it. How’d his hand get there? That sort of thing. I would’ve preferred more description in those cases, so they didn’t pull me out of the story to think about what was where and how. All in all, I really liked the story, sexual encounter and characters, but I would’ve liked a more substantial HEA tied into a neater bow.

A GHOST: How can Traci be getting e-mails from her best friend who died two years ago? Is someone playing a cruel joke, or does Corky really need her help? Traci plans to find out – her new romance with Brad depends on it.

I loved the premise of this story. I’ve only just started reading much YA and jumped on this one the moment is was offered. I wasn’t sorry I did.

I had such fun reading about Corky’s pranks and ‘big brother’ protection of Traci, of Traci helping Corky with the problems he was facing, and of Traci trying to establish a relationship with Brad while Corky watched (and sometimes did more than watch!).

I did feel like the reason Corky’s dad had left the family was a little over the top for such a light, fluffy book, but it didn’t ruin my enjoyment one bit.

Sherrie Kelley has a great voice for YA, and I hope she decides to write more. I’ll be on the lookout.

Review: All She Wants for Christmas

All She Wants For Christmas
by Crystal Jordan

The wedding is off! Emma Richards just walked away from the only man she’s ever loved, her overbearing parents, and the pressures of life. Somehow her well-ordered existence has spiraled out of control to the point that she’s hiding in a bathroom stall until everyone leaves the department store with the wedding planner. When she makes her escape, she finds herself trapped in the elevator with her furious fianc?, who knows just how to convince her that giving up on the wedding is one thing, but giving up on their relationship is out of the question. Eloping is all Emma really wants for Christmas, and Paul is just the man to deliver.

Having had the pleasure of reading Crystal Jordan before, I was looking forward to reading this short holiday story. It didn’t disappoint. Crystal Jordan has proven again that she is a master of complex relationships.

Emma and Paul are wonderful characters who have realistic reactions and show a depth of emotion that is uncommon in such a short story. Their incredibly hot sex scene is both animalistic and tender.

At this point, I would buy anything that Crystal Jordan writes. She has a special gift of combining hot sex, complex characters and deep emotion.

Review: Captive Fantasy

Captive Fantasy
By L. Rosario

Seraphina Scala has just confessed she’s never had an orgasm and now her friend has the perfect solution, a night spent at Captive Fantasy, a club that guarantees to fulfill every deep, dark, secret desire. Sera would rather admit she’s a vampire than join her friend at such a place, but she doesn’t, and she finds herself surrounded by ravenous women and drop-dead gorgeous men. One in particular steals her attention.

Valentino was literally created to make fantasies come true. He’s used to the eager women who flood into Captive Fantasy every night to take what he offers, but when he meets the shy Sera, he knows he has his work cut out for him. Something about her strikes a chord deep inside, and he soon realizes he wants more than just a breathy thank you for a “job” well done. Valentino awakens a side of Sera she’s kept locked away for nearly three centuries, and now she must confront her past, her present and her future. Doing so won’t be so bad with Valentino by her side, but will he want her once he realizes what she really is? Or will his secret be the one thing they cannot overcome?

The first thing that comes to mind when trying to describe this book is, “Whew!” I know, not really a word, but hey, spell-check didn’t flag it! I felt like I was on a roller-coaster ride the entire time I was reading this story, and I do love roller-coasters. The slow, but tantalizing climb to getting to know our main characters a bit–their meeting each other as we wait to see how they will react–then that desperate plunge into a hot and heavy relationship. Just throw your hands up and squeal through the ride.

I found the two protagonists well-defined and emotionally accessible. I never doubted why they were doing what they were doing, or feeling what they were feeling. I loved this book.

Seraphina “Sera” Scala is a shy, reserved librarian who has never really had an orgasm, and especially not one during sex. She is also a three-hundred year old vampire who has never really felt she was cut out to be a vampire, so you see her frustration. She is beginning to think that it’s just not possible for her to reach a sexual peak during intercourse when her closest friend suggests she visit an all-male review club with her. Sera’s not so excited to tag along but allows herself to be talked into it, only to come face to face with some of them most gorgeous men she has ever laid eyes on. It isn’t long after entering the club that she finds out it’s not just a strip club… it’s a sex club. The gorgeous men are there to fulfill every woman’s fantasy, and that includes sex – much to Sera’s chagrin.

Valentino is a “performer” at the club, Captive Fantasy. He was literally created to fulfill any and every woman’s fantasy. It’s all he’s ever known, but lately he finds he is restless, and uninterested in the many gorgeous women vying for his attention. The problem? An attitude like that could get his employment “terminated”. All that changes when Seraphina walks through the door and into his life. He finds he is desperate to keep her in his life, but with no real understanding of how to make that happen. When Valentino discovers Sera’s reason for coming to the club, he knows he’s up to the task. The only obstacle is that he doesn’t want to let her go once he gets her into his arms.

This story had an interesting, if not fully creative take on the vampire story. Some of the elements were those that we see in many other vampire novels. The politics and unknown agendas behind the actions of those in the Vampire Coven are an interesting storyline, even if it did seem I’d read or seen something similar before. I do, however understand that there have been so many vampire stories written that there isn’t a whole lot out there that one can add to. It did not detract from the story in any way. In fact, it made it easier to follow along with the main characters and not try to wrap my brain around new theories and behaviors. We also get to meet supporting characters that have me looking for their stories, as well as a villain who’s not really a villain and who I would seriously love to see redeemed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and will be adding it to my keeper pile. The way Sera and Valentino react to each other and their differing worlds kept me guessing as to how they would resolve their conflicts in order to find their Happily Ever After. The love scenes between the two were so hot, I found myself looking around to make sure no one else could see how hot and bothered I was just from reading about them. This book was a fun and exciting take on the classic vampire tale and I would recommend it to all lovers of vampire lore or anyone else looking for a HOT romance.

Review: Take Me Again, Sam

TAKE ME AGAIN, SAM [Destination Pleasure 5]
By Megan Kerans

Belly dancer Dove Rickland travels to Casablanca to improve her dancing. But she never expects to receive hands-on lessons from sexy restaurant owner Samir Macias, or that they’d be so pleasurable.

I really enjoyed Dove and Sam’s verbal foreplay in the beginning. Sam’s combination of control and impulsiveness was really well-done and added to the steaminess of the scene.

The dance instruction-turned-foreplay was so incredible erotic. I could practically hear the escalating beat of the drums as the scene progressed. The lounge chair scene – especially the first part – was an exceptionally creative and erotic moment by the author. Totally hot.

The story was seamless, and the sex hot, hot, hot. I thought the ending would creep up on me in such a short story, but it all fit really well and left me very satisfied because Sam’s feelings at the end were communicated so well.

This story is not about a deep relationship, but it is about a connection that could lead to something more. Coupled with the outstanding sex, it’s a fabulous little romp in a far off land.

Review: An Afternoon Tryst

AN AFTERNOON TRYST
By: Modeska Rose

Marissa is struggling in her five-year marriage. Her husband, Norm, seems distant, and the intimacy they shared is almost nonexistent. To recharge the marriage, they decide to play a game.

When she meets “Cole” in the local grocery store, the encounter leads to an afternoon affair, in which he fulfills her every fantasy, including hot, steamy sex and a rose-petaled bubble bath.

Marissa craves the closeness she once shared with Norm, but Cole treats her like a rare and precious jewel—giving her everything in the marriage Norm doesn’t. While she struggles to get through each day, anticipating her next tryst with Cole, Norm pulls further away and Marissa is forced to choose.

Will she cling to Cole for the excitement he offers, or is Marissa’s love for Norm strong enough to recapture the intimacy she longs for in her “normal” marriage? Or can she have both?

I initially didn’t want to read this story because I find the subject matter of an affair to be offensive. Therefore, I was surprised at how easily the author had me indulging in this exciting and forbidden relationship.

This sexy and naughty little secret come-to-life was about passion and desperation, longing and a feverish intensity that drew me in. The vulnerability in both Norm and Marissa is tangible, and I found myself routing for them, in spite of the incredible heat between Cole and Marissa.

Clandestine meetings turn into more than they were intended to be, and Marissa has to choose what it is she really wants. This was the most meaningful and important part of the book, for me. It was written wonderfully and done with respect – and most importantly, love.

Review: All She Needs [Legacy of the Celtic Brooch Book 8]

All She Needs [Legacy of the Celtic Brooch Book 8]
By Crystal Jordan

If ever Jen Campbell needed a magic charm, today is the day. Lucky for her, fate lands exactly what she needs on her door step. When her best friends, Emma and Paul, ask her to be their son’s godmother, she’s happy to agree. Until she finds Paul’s brother is the godfather. Kevin Miller, the only man she’s ever loved, and the only man she can never have. Their brief relationship ended in disaster, but one look is enough to convince Jen she’ll never be over him. Can she resist the Kevin who says he’s confronted the demons in his past and is determined to pick up where they left off–right in the middle of a hallway during a huge party, guests be damned? More importantly, can she trust that a man as stubborn as Kevin can truly
change and be all that she needs?

Heartfelt and meaningful, Crystal Jordan has created a story filled with love and longing. The sense of desperation within the desire to be loved instead of just wanted is so real. I absolutely loved it.

This story is told solely from Jen’s point of view, and it is better for it. With warm, real characters and relationships, this short story has a depth that belies its length. The emotion and sexual tension between Kevin and Jen build like a crescendo, creating a compelling story.

There were two very evident editing mistakes that should have made me rate this book lower, based on our site’s ratings level descriptions. With them I certainly should have rated it lower. The typos are not so distracting, however, that they lessen the wonderful nature of this story, but I thought it was important to mention them.

This installment of the Legacy of the Celtic Brooch has certainly made me want to read more of them. The author combines love, desire and sex on an emotional journey. Even though the sex was incredibly hot, the author managed to effortlessly make it about the love at the core of their relationship. This is a book I recommend highly to all lovers of true romance that don’t mind if it happens to really sizzle.
