Eagle Peak, population 596, has two bars, five churches, and a vibe (or lack thereof) that couldn’t be more different than Sean’s native Minneapolis. Moving to rural small town Minnesota, Sean must leave his life of acting classes, going to all-ages shows, and hanging out with friends, to enter into a world of pep rallies, pick-up trucks and country pop.

Sean’s inclination for heavy eyeliner, black attire, and surly attitude make him an easy target of suspicion, intrigue, and prejudice in the small town of Eagle Peak. But despite Sean’s growing sense of dread and depression, small town Minnesota also offers a lot of firsts: he becomes the love interest of three classmates of which one is a closeted gay boy afraid of his own sexuality, he is surprised to discover and chant with a Buddhist family in town, and he gets in the middle of an abusive father and his town jock son. Sean’s old life of theater, live music, and diverse friends collides with his new life in Eagle Peak, and Sean is left confused about what he thought he knew about small towns, the world he left behind, and himself.

Sean has a definite opinion about what he thinks it will be like to live in the middle of nowhere, but only time will tell if his first impressions of his new home are correct.

Excellent character development made it impossible for me to stop reading. Sean is a well-developed protagonist whose personal strengths and weaknesses reveal themselves almost immediately. What makes Eagle Peak such a great tale, though, is how this development spreads to the secondary characters as well. The author acknowledges certain stereotypes only to turn them upside down just when this reader thought she had everything figured out.

All of the subplots are handled with sensitivity and humor. Ms. Fontaine tackles a lot of tough subjects during the course of Sean’s adjustment to Eagle Peak, but she weaves everything together so deftly that all of the points of conflict feel like natural extensions of the main storyline. My sole criticism of this story involves the way one of the subplots is resolved. Certain parts of it felt a little rushed due to the nature of the problem and how much it affected the character who was figuring it out earlier on in the narrative. This is a minor criticism of an otherwise well put-together plot, though.

It’s difficult to explain what it feels like to live in a small town if you stand out from the crowd in some way, but Ms. Fontaine accurately captures the positives and negatives of belonging to a minority group while living in a rural setting. This is the kind of book I’d heartily recommend to anyone who is curious about this topic.

Eagle Peak is a must-read for anyone who has ever felt out of place. It captures the maelstrom of emotions that accompanies this experience well and is something I will be rereading again soon.

Herefordshire, England 1643

As the English Civil War divides England and tears families apart, Kinton Lacey castle is one of the brave few loyal to the roundhead cause.

With her father away, Deliverance Felton will do whatever it takes to defend her family home against the royalist forces ranged against it. She can shoot and wield a sword as well as any man and anything she needs to know about siege warfare she has learned from a book…but no book can prepare her for what is to come.

Captain Luke Collyer, soldier of fortune and a man with his own reasons for loyalty to the parliamentary cause, is sent to relieve the castle. Everything he knows about siege warfare in general and women in particular he has learned from experience, but when it comes to Deliverance Felton has he met his match?

Deliverance will not give up her command lightly and Luke will have to face a challenge to his authority as fierce as the cavalier foe outside the walls. He will do whatever it takes to win Deliverance’s trust but will he run the risk of losing his own, well guarded, heart?

I found this bit of history in the making fascinating and I really loved the people involved. The King’s men against the rebels reminded me very much of our own American Revolution with our rebels against the King.

Deliverance and her sister, Patience lived in a castle which was under attack by the King’s men. Captain Luck Collyer is sent by their father to help protect them. They are so outnumbered I could not imagine how they could possibly manage to defeat the enemy. They are, however, prepared to fight to the death against all odds.

This is not, however, a depressing story. It is full of fun and conflict between Luke and Deliverance. She had been in charge of the castle and was not willing to give it up to him. I loved the interaction between them. It is wonderful, fun and unique. She was not the typical mousy woman that he had expected to find. I smiled a lot while reading about the conflict between them, and even laughed out loud a couple of times.

Throughout the siege there are two beautiful love stories. Yes two, although one is not mentioned as often. I enjoyed them both. There is also a lot of fighting, death and destruction from the very beginning, which is to be expected. However, all the fighting is important to the story line, and not just thrown in to explain the war. This author also lets you feel the hope for the future in the story.

This story doesn’t end the way I expected — it ends even better! Honestly, I loved this story.

This is my first foray into the world of Liz Fielding, but it won’t be my last. The writing is crisp and the characters are quite memorable. I couldn’t put this book down once I started it. I needed to know what would happen next.

I got emotionally invested in these characters. At times I loved them. At other times, I wanted to bonk both over the head. Natasha has some issues in her past which added nicely to the rounding of her character. I liked that she was normal and had regular problems. But one thing that drove me a little nutsy about her was her tendency to over-think situations. I understood she was good at her job, but I wished she’d done a little less thinking and a little more acting on what she wanted. But I understood her, so it wasn’t a bad read. Not at all.

I quite honestly loved Darius. This guy is an overload of thinking, but he’s very sexy and knows what he wants–he’s just not sure how to keep what he wants. I could understand him and rooted for him.

There is definite heat in this book. If you’re looking for a quick read that will hold your interest for a couple of hours, then this might be the book for you.

There’s no doubt that Tara is a challenge, and Breccan loves nothing more. For he’s vowed to thoroughly seduce Tara—and make her his in more than name alone.

The Bride Says Maybe is the second book in the Cathy Maxwell’s series The Brides of Wishmore. After reading the first in the series (The Bride says No), I was really eager to read its sequel because I wanted to know Lady Tara’s story. Lady Tara is a character I didn’t like much in The Bride Says No. I found her spoiled, insensible, self-centered and shallow but somehow by the end of the first book I realized that there might be more to her than met the eye. I was not wrong.

The Bride Says Maybe is a character driven romance novel in which the reader follows the development of the romance between Lady Tara and Breccan Campbell, two people who both have their issues. They were total strangers who decided to get married, each for their own special reasons. As the story progressed and Tara and Breccan gradually learned about one another, they fell in love. Love between Tara and Breccan sprung from mutual respect and climaxed in one beautiful, sensual lovemaking scene. The sexual tension between characters is so magnificently built up through the story and because of that it was pure enjoyment to read. Both characters are complex and lovable at the same time, and I became very fond of them by the end of the story. Besides the main characters, I also enjoyed very much the stories that Breccan told Tara; the stories were based on Scottish legends and they spoke about love between a man and woman. Besides that, they helped bring a mystical atmosphere and extra spice to the story.

Although The Bride Says Maybe can be read as a standalone I highly recommend to readers that they read the first book in the series before this one so they can fully understand what is going on regarding the subplot of this story.

The Bride Says Maybe was a sequel worth waiting for. I enjoyed every page of this story, and it brought up so many emotions in me. I highly recommend it to all romance novel readers, regardless of their favorite sub-genre. I think it is needless to say that I cannot wait for the next installment in this series.

Sebastian won’t give up the only girl he’s ever loved without a fight, but Abigail must choose between the penniless gentleman who moves her heart, and the suitor who is everything her parents want.

I do love a story about a wounded warrior, and Sebastian Vane definitely fits the bill. He’s now living a quiet life, doing the best he can with his limited resources. He accidentally encounters Abigail Weston, who is the kind of woman he once might have hoped to marry. He is definitely intrigued and enchanted by her, but he turns down her overture to further their acquaintance, feeling that it can go nowhere.

As they meet again, Abigail does her best to change Sebastian’s mind, and in turn, his resistance is melting away. I loved the way this story evolved, and I loved Sebastian and Abigail. They both had strong character – he chose to live a quiet and dignified life, and did not become surly, and she wasn’t arrogant or haughty though she was beautiful and an heiress. They talk to each other, so they don’t have to deal with secrets or big misunderstandings. Once they commit to each other, their problems are from outside events, they’re not of their own making. Of course, there are villains – one in particular caused such pain and humiliation for Sebastian, that I freely admit I would have rejoiced to see him dead.

I enjoy Caroline Linden’s books, and this one is no exception. Although there was a mystery here, I felt that the focus was on Sebastian and Abigail, and their wonderful, sexy romance. I recommend this book and am looking forward to the next in the series.

This medicine viagra discount sales is very inexpensive and won’t be effective if you are suffering from impotency or erectile dysfunction. Admit it, most of us think the Irish accent is sexy as a well done salsa dance; that’s why I picked this book up. This beautiful premise is only added to by James/Seamus being a rock star to boot. But I kept reading because the writing is well edited and well written. Not to mention, the plot doesn’t do the irritating, “Do I like him, no, I don’t, but I do, but I just can’t bring myself to see him” dance. That stuff got old twenty books ago. For once, the main characters definitely love each other and even say so well before halfway through the book. Here, the conflict is one external to the relationship.

James is a rock star and all high grossing rock stars have a manager. James’ manager isn’t the nice kind. He provides the book’s tension by the distance he enforces between the two love-birds via touring time. I felt a lot of the band details on stage and back were well researched and appeared to be realistic. The only major issue I had was the petulance and childishness of the manager on occasion. He seemed a touch too childlike in his arguments and resistance to change. I felt the plot could have just as easily gone forward with him being more realistically businesslike and strong in his refusal to help the band through those traits rather than sheer contrariness. I think this would have worked better towards the conclusion where he is appraised as a generally good, if greedy, guy.

Now on to the good bits: James’ and Beth’s sex life. For the romantic, the draw could be that Beth starts out as a virgin and, presumably, her first and last will be James. He, of course, has had more experience, as a rock star would. However, I would also say this novel is one for the romance enthusiast because the sex is more making love than just sex. There are long embraces, loving foreplay, and there is a build up to the stage of having sex, for obvious reasons. Beth is not a woman to fall straight into and out of bed with a man, and just as well.

I felt the best part of their relationship was James’ commitment to Beth. He sends her trinkets and letters in an updated take on love letters and really ingratiates himself to the reader, and Beth. He does what many men may not be bothered to do in a long distance relationship and takes “putting in the effort” to another level.

There is also a soft magical element to this book that readers should be aware of. Tarot cards have a strong predictive influence over events and James’ family all have different psychic gifts that they were born with. I find this fantasy element syncs well with the plot and offers nice (and not too obvious) hints and foresight to the reader.

The conclusion to The Gypsy Ribbon is a shock to begin with but smoothes out to a happy ending, so don’t be too disheartened. What I take from this book is love and an enduring memory of that happy, tingly, overflow of emotion that surrounds the perfect honeymoon period of relationships and spreads smiles across a room. With Shannon MacLeod writing books at this standard, I’m going to go have a look and see if James’ Irish brothers have been written about, too!

Prince Ivánstan of Dahaka accompanies her on the journey. Both face challenges and obstacles that test their strength of character during the hunt for the rose. Dare Sonia put her trust and faith in a man she hardly knows to secure Gaia’s peace or will the continent’s harmony be shattered forever?

Well written and engaging, The Green Rose is a book fans of fantasy and romance should enjoy.

I enjoyed the characters in this story once I had them sorted. We meet several during the battle scene at the start, and a few felt similar, so it took me a moment to remember who was who. I loved that the hero and heroine weren’t enemies or at odds with one another. There are days I get so tired of reading about characters who do nothing but fight until they fall into bed. The conflict here was external and appreciated by me.

Sonia and Ivan have a quest, of course, as no fantasy is complete without one. During this time they learn to trust and like each other, and eventually fall in love. There are rules about them being able to marry, and that does intrude a bit on their happiness, but the story is ultimately about them finding what they need to save their world.

Ms. Burkhart is quite a good writer. I read this book quickly and was completely engaged. I don’t think I put it down for more than a few minutes at a time because, while it may not be nail-bitingly exciting, I cared quite a lot about our characters and wanted to see things through to the end. The author does a wonderful job creating characters we care about and her world building, while not extensive, is well done. Die hard epic fantasy fans may not fully engage here, but those of us who are reading for the story and the people in it will enjoy The Green Rose.

Stephanie Burkhart is fast becoming a “must buy” author for me. I’ve yet to read a story by her that I haven’t enjoyed.

Laird of Clan MacLaren, he is wealthy, handsome and happily unencumbered…until stunning Christel McClellan enters his life. When he hears her story, he believes the child she thought dead has been sold to a wealthy buyer.

I began reading this story expecting another typical regency romance. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn’t! From the end of the first chapter, it was one exciting thing after another.

The heroine, Christel, is attacked by a nobleman who wanted to marry her for her money. She flees to a nunnery and then to an isolated castle owned by Ryder, the man she has just become engaged to, but who isn’t currently present. Once he returns home, the story became a terrifying tale of them trying to find and do away with the man who was looking for her.

I loved the rapport between the two main characters. Although at times they both struggled to find the right words to explain their feelings for each other, somehow they managed. They both loved the other and so over time it became easier. Both were also very independent and that caused a little friction between them. However, Ryder would typically just shake his head and go with the flow. There were a huge number of sex scenes, and I think this story would have stood alone quite well without so many (there were times they did nothing to forward the plot, but seemed added just to have a sex scene), but they didn’t detract from the plot either.

There were so many other fascinating and fun characters in the story: her sister, her cousins, their husbands, her aunt, the Duchess. Reading about all the things they attempted and succeeded in doing was really fun. They were not the typical regency “tonnish” people of the days. This made this story much more fun.

And of course, although there was a lot of fighting, terror, murder and mayhem, the story has a very satisfying ending.

In the best tradition of the dark southern tale, we meet a gaggle of diverse and colorful characters—lovable, alcoholic Benny; the voluptuous and permissive Midge; Ryan the rigid Baptist deacon and Clara his timid, little wife; along with Cyn’s sisters, all of whom are named for perfumes. Sometimes dark secrets hide behind masks of cheerfulness. What initially attracted me to Cyn was Mumz Potter’s fear that someone’s fate could be determined by decisions made by their ancestors decades earlier. The best scenes gently brush against this idea as Cyn and Molly slowly transition away from childhood.

Most of the people in this tale are wonderfully nuanced individuals, but there were a few secondary characters who were written in such a stereotypical manner that they had trouble fitting into the narrative. Given everything this book has to say about the consequences of ignorance I found it a little odd that those characters were treated that way. It’s difficult for me to say anything more about these discrepancies without venturing into spoiler territory, but this is something that I would have loved to see explored in greater depth as the story progresses.

The smooth, descriptive writing style made it impossible for me to put this tale down. Ms. O’Dell captures the social, religious, and political mores of a rural, southern community in the 1950s so precisely that at times I felt as if I were watching a movie inside of my mind. She doesn’t shy away from characters whose opinions would be offensive in today’s world, but neither does she assume that everyone who lived in that time and place shared those prejudices.

Cyn is a novel that will haunt me for a long time. This is a great choice for anyone who is in the mood to get lost in another world for a few hundred pages.

With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity.

The experience of reading this book is like being a dust bunny in the path of a super suction vacuum cleaner – once I got started, reality fell away and the only thing that existed was Vlad and Leila. There was no escape.

I had read Once Burned, the first book that introduced me to Vlad and Leila, and I was astounded as to the originality and the quality of writing that took place in that novel. It ended with a not so happy type of cliff hanger so I was both cautious and curious to start Twice Tempted. I didn’t know where Ms. Frost was going to take her characters – further estrangement, using that as one of the plot conflicts, or advancing their romance to the next step, fighting and screaming all the way. I’m thrilled to report that this story is written just as powerfully with an almost absolute perfect balance of suspense, drama, intense passion and a delightful and thoroughly captivating culmination of their courtship and romance.

Of course, Vlad is not a typical hero. In fact, he is a cold blooded killer. His sense of justice is extreme and his methods of punishment are medieval and brutal and in the beginning Leila was horrified that he wielded his weapons with so much gusto. The hero is a very scary man. However in this book, told through Leila’s eyes, he’s so much more. In fact, that is how this novel is told – through Leila’s first person point of view and Ms. Frost never missed a beat. Usually I find first person POV hard to get into. Not so with Twice Tempted. I was solidly in Leila’s head but because the author has such a strong command of dialogue, expressions, descriptions and mood setting, it was a smooth yet commanding read and I reveled in it. The author used the secondary characters to give Leila the clues she needed to understand what was happening or what was about to. When she understood, I understood. The author’s expertise in crafting her characters in this book was clear and bold.

If readers missed the first book, Once Burned, they won’t get too lost in reading this sequel. Ms. Frost did play catch up at certain points to make sure a new reader understood the ramifications of certain choices made by the characters in a few scenes. Since I’d forgotten some of the finer points, it was a good refresher for me and I think just right for new readers too. One thing is for sure, some of the secondary characters mentioned in both Once Burned and Twice Tempted were from the other series that Ms. Frost is famous for. I’ve never read them but after my experience with these two novels, I’m going to be looking into getting all the back books. I can only hope my purse doesn’t scream OUCH! too loud since it looks like there are quite a few. If the quality is anything like reading Vlad and Leila’s story, I’m going to be a very contented reader – and broke.

The hardest thing about writing this review is avoiding the spoilers. There are so many things I’d love to share! I’ll give hints: the explosion, the betrayal, the villain, the cool thing about the flowers, the boat, the explanation of ghouls and what happens to poor Maximus. And the rats! Oh good gravy, the rats! That’s just for starters. Twice Tempted is simply amazing because it’s meaty, diverse, enthralling and intense and is a real page flipper.

Twice Tempted blew me away and everything about the heroine totally rocked! Yes, I liked the dynamics between Vlad and Leila, and Vlad is one sexy, arrogant and complex hunk, but Leila’s character impressed me 100%. There were three times that the author could have written her actions as a typical cliché but instead she surprised me, pleased me and garnered my respect. The paragraph of introspection where Leila ruminated over life and living was a breath of fresh air and what came afterwards pushed all of my happy buttons. Twice Tempted is going on my keeper shelf just like its predecessor, Once Burned. I know there is one more book coming because of what was discovered in the last chapter of Twice Tempted and I guarantee it’s going to be an auto-buy. Ms. Frost is now on my short list of must read authors. She’s earned it with these Night Prince novels. I’m very happy to recommend this book, and indeed this series, to all paranormal romance fans. It’s high caliber writing.
