Nick is given more depth in this short tale, as it’s easy to identify and understand with Darren sweeping Nick off his feet and dropping him into uncharted territory. My intention had been to read one story a day. Unable to stop, I finished before dinner and wished there had been more. Anyone can write sex. It is far rarer for a writer to paint it in such a way that the reader both devours it and cares about the outcome. The world of Sirilon is a siren song across the waves; it teases and tugs at you, mind and heart. A wonderful companion book to Bryce’s longer Sirilon works, these stories weave a marvelous spell, sensual and poignant, sweet and thought-provoking. Obviously, I recommend it highly to lovers of erotic fantasy but writing like this transcends genre lines to please any lover of well-crafted fiction.

There were many touching moments that made the story unique, such as the meeting in which Adarkan shows Rakar how his words of love were misunderstood by her mother for years because of simple syntax error. It shows that even though the king was a Talon, he was ultimately human as well.
