Debbie Harry is blunt and this book showcases her at her best.

I have to admit I picked up this book because of the art in the middle. Yes, art. Debbie Harry showcases fan art in this book and it’s very cool to see how the fans interpreted her. Some are kid drawings and others are by adults. She’s a multifaceted person and this book shows it.
Once I poured through the art, I got down to reading. Debbie Harry is seen as one of the queens of punk and this book showcases that. She’s blunt and honest in her retellings of her life. This woman has been through a lot. She was adopted as a baby and always wondered about her parents. The story wasn’t pretty and rather depressing. At least she had a decent childhood. But still, she’s a rebel and seems like she always was. I liked how she managed to get herself through school, college and navigate the punk scene while being an independent and true to herself. She proves that you can do what you want and get what you want if you’re willing to do the work.

She talks about her relationships and her current state of affairs in plain and blunt terms that makes one feel like she’s talking to me. Like a conversation between friends. I liked it.

If you’re looking for a rock biography that’s out of the norm and breaks the rules, then this is the one to read.

Then there’s his music.

In the grand scheme of things, he rather glosses over the music. It’s almost like it’s there, but it’s not the focus. I kind of liked that because he talks more about himself than the songs. But if you’re looking for his insights on his music, then this might not be the right book.

I loved how he described his feelings about David, his husband, and how he fell in love and opted to have kids. It’s sweet, complicated and worth the read. There are the kiss and tell moments, but this is more than that. It’s his honest recollection of his life–full of dents, holes, wrong turns and love.

If you want an autobiography that doesn’t come off preach and will keep your interest, then this is the book to try. Elton John fans, check it out!

I picked up this book because of the pup on the front. I wanted a sweet, holiday read with an ending I could depend on and that’s what I got, times two. The writing is solid and the stories are easy reads. I blazed through them in the course of a couple afternoons.

Mistletoe and Mr. Right – This story had promise. It’s cute. Jessica thinks she’s got the world’s number and she knows how she wants to run it. I liked her headstrong approach. The thing that drove me nuts about her, but was also very human, was her bone-deep desire to control everything and have it go her way. There were some serious blind spots to this gal. I liked the connection to Grady, too. I guess what bothered me the most with this one was her wanting control, but wanting more than one thing at a time. It’s still a good read and fun for the holidays.

Sleigh Bells and Second Chances – Christina was an interesting character. She’s best friends with Jessica from Mistletoe & Mr. Right, so that’s how the stories are connected. But she’s also sort of…snobby isn’t a good word for it. She comes from a damaged background and from a broken home, but there’s money involved. She has her issues to go through, which made her human, and the relationship with Cary. There’s some serious heat there. I liked the connection and rooted for them, even though there were times I didn’t like Christina much. She changed her mind a lot and wanted to do a lot of punishing. Still, the Christmas spirit is all over this story and it’s cute.

If you want a pair of stories to warm the chilly evenings, then this might be the book you’re looking for.

I picked up this book because I’d heard great things about GA Hauser’s work. The characters are interesting and the storyline is one many can relate to–losing a loved one and the holidays. This story takes place right before Christmas, which forces Paul and Ryan to confront their sadness, but to do it together.

The beginning was rather slow, I have to admit. It took me a while to get into the story and to know what was going on. I wanted to like Ryan and Paul from the beginning, but at times I got confused as to who was alive, who wasn’t and who was dating whom. It needed just a bit more editing to smooth out some of the edges–there were a missed word here and there and a few other oddities, but nothing that would take away from enjoying the read.

Once the story got going, it really sped along nicely. The connection was odd, but deep and I liked Paul and Ryan together. I certainly felt the angst and the creative genius in them. Plus, the hot scenes are hot.

If you’re looking for an angsty holiday read that will break your heart, but also make you smile, then this is the book for you.

I picked up this book because I liked other books set around the same time and thought I might like this one. The premise caught my attention and I wanted to know more. I’m glad I did. The plot is interesting and the writing was good. This story has promise.

Caroline and Paul’s storyline was interesting and rooted for them to get a happy ending. That said, the characters were a bit flat. I liked Kasia enough, but Herta… it was hard to read her plot because it was hard to buy into what she stood for. There are mentions of rape, which might be a trigger to some. I wasn’t sure how to feel about her. I didn’t like Herta’s actions, even if she thought she had a purpose. Caroline’s character came across a bit snobby. She’s a socialite, but the descriptions were a bit much. This could be a light read at times and bogged down in details in others.

Still, this is an interesting take on the subject of three women from WWII. Herta and Caroline are based on real people, so once I got to the author’s note, it was neat to find out they were real.

If you’re looking for a book that’s a different take on the time period, then give this one a try.

This book isn’t what I’d normally pick for my reading. I like a distinctive line with the romance. The injected spirituality and religion is good, but not my cuppa. I also had a bit of an issue with this being listed as inspirational when there is discussion of romantic relations. I won’t give away spoilers, but this isn’t a sweet book. It’s more of a sensual story and might not be for some readers wanting purely sweet romance.

If you’re looking for a book that makes you think and look at the life, mostly your choices, a little differently, then this might be the book for you. Check it out.

It was good. Jacob has some issues and he’s not perfect. Then again. Michelle isn’t exactly blemish-free, too. They were relatable and that’s huge.

This is the first book by Rachel Dove that I’ve read, but it won’t be the last. The writing flowed well and drew me right in. I couldn’t put the book down. I felt like I was right there with them, too.

Jacob has stress in spades. He’s trying to keep his job, he’s got PTSD and he’s trying to raise his daughter, a little girl with autism, on his own. He’s in over his head. But he’s a sweet man and trying to make things work. When he meets Michelle, things click into place. Michelle has her own ghosts. She’s seen trauma up close and wants to be there for Jacob, but it’s hard for her to welcome people in. I liked that these characters aren’t perfect. It made the story more relatable to me.

If you’re looking for a story that’s got a lot of heart and chances for love despite the odds, then this might be the one for you.

I felt like I was right there with the characters and could’ve been in Saipan. The descriptions are rich and detailed. Plus, the characters are well-rounded and I loved them.

If you’re looking for a story that’s full of heart and second chances, then this might be the one for you.

Reading about her transition, the bullying, the fear, confusion…I wanted to hug her. I loved that Selenis and the rest of the family gave her the love and respect she deserved on this journey. The parts concerning her birth parents was particularly hard. I can’t imagine what she went through at the hands of her father.

This book has been described as an open letter between sisters or a dialogue between them. It is. This isn’t all from Selenis’s point of view. Yes, she tells of how she felt as Marizol transitioned, but it’s more about Marizol. Truly.

This book shows how one can accept themselves, how their family can accept them and how it’s okay to be authentic. You have to be yourself.
