Thanks for having me here today to celebrate my new release: Angels Rising. Stay tuned until the end for a giveaway!

Top 5: Things you like doing when you aren’t writing

5. Reading – I guess this seems obvious for a writer. I like to read! I read in all genres, including romance, science fiction, fantasy, and YA. I read over 70 YA books last year.

4. Walking my dog – My dog is getting up there in years. He turned 13 last December, but he still acts like a puppy. He just sleeps a lot more. I enjoy taking him for walks around the neighborhood. It’s a great way to work out a plot problem. Just me and the dog and nature.

3. Crocheting – I don’t knit, but I have been crocheting since I was about four years old. Most of our blankets are crocheted, and some were even made by my grandmother.

It takes me about a year to make a good queen sized blanket. And I’ve noticed that dogs seem to love crocheted blankets. We have a few that the dog has claimed. They belong to him now.

I was sitting at my computer chair with one of his blankets on my lap, and the dog came up to me, and pawed at the blanket until it fell off my lap, and then he sat on it.

Like I said, it’s his blanket now.

2. Learning new things- I always like learning about something new. Whether that means reading a book about it, or taking a class, I just want to always expand my mind. So of course I’ve decided to pick up a Master’s degree in creative writing…3 credits down, 45 to go!

1. Escape Rooms! I’ve done over 75 escape rooms over the past two years. If you don’t know what they are, Escape Rooms are a fairly new form of entertainment. You are ‘locked’ in a room and have an hour to find clues and solve puzzles in order to escape.

I’ve done so many fun rooms. Rooms where we’ve had to escape from serial killers. Others where we’ve pretended to be explorers and find our way out of a pharaoh’s tomb. One of my favorite rooms was the one themed like a 1980s video store, where the object was to break in and rescue the VHS tape you forgot to rewind so you don’t get hit with a rewind fee. It was hilariously funny and so creative.

I could probably write a whole lot more about escape rooms, so instead, I’ll let you know that I’m giving away four $10 Dreamspinner gift certificates.

Better to reign in hell….

Uriel 3019 has been a cybernetically altered angel since he volunteered for the program fifteen years ago. His devotion to the floating city of Heaven is fierce, and he’ll follow any command he’s given. But Uriel’s orderly world is crumbling. Angels are going mad, even hurting people. Some are rebelling, and the noble families are vying for control—by any means necessary.

Uriel’s latest assignment brings him into a secret society, where his partner, Raphael, is working for freedom and equality for all angels. Could their group be responsible for the angels’ recent erratic behavior? Uriel is determined to find out—and report on his findings. But he doesn’t count on Raphael’s confession—that he has feelings for Uriel—or the memories slowly starting to return from the time before he became an angel.

Is he on the right side? Does he dare to stand against Heaven, even if doing so will save his fellow angels from becoming soulless automatons? Uriel has to decide if his loyalty belongs to his superiors… or to the angel who’s stolen his heart.

About the Author: CC Bridges is a mild-mannered librarian by day, but by night she writes about worlds of adventure and romance. When she’s not busy solving puzzles in an escape room, she can be found diving into comics or binge-watching superhero movies. She writes surrounded by books, spare computing equipment, a fluffy dog, and a long-suffering husband in the state of New Jersey. In 2011, she won a Rainbow Award for best gay sci-fi/futuristic novel.

Favorite Comics by Marguerite Labbe – Guest Blog

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Marguerite Labbe who is visiting with us to celebrate the recent release of A Little Side of Geek.

Favorite Comics

You can’t write about comic book conventions, writers, and artists without talking about your favorites. For the record, one of Morris’s favorite artists is Neal Adams a creator of Ra’s al Ghul, who is a top villain for Morris. For all of his disavowal of geek interests, Theo has a soft spot for Spider-Man and a love for Morris’s comic Beneath the Surface which Morris describes as Dora the Explorer meets Scooby-Doo with a dash of ESP.

I didn’t get into Batman comics like Morris, though I did love the animated TV series and movies. But I have read some. One of my favorites is Gotham by Gaslight where Batman takes on Jack the Ripper. And I’ve been meaning to pick up Tom King’s Grayson and Batman runs. But I haven’t done that yet.

Since I’m writing about a comic book writer/artist, I wanted to give a shout out to some of the series that shaped me as a writer over the years.

My husband Keir introduced me to comics before we were first dating in the early years of high school. He used to go to weekend comic book conventions back when they were held in small hotel spaces and it was a room of dealers with long-boxes of comics. There may be a couple of mid-tier artists who attended, but not many. Keir and a friend and came back with the entire run of X-Men’s X-Cutioner’s Song. I read it and was hooked on X-Men throughout the rest of high school.

In college, I discovered Joseph Michael Lisner’s Dawn. I hung out at Keir’s dorm all the time and a friend down the hall had a poster of her up on his wall and it intrigued me. I cannot tell you how much I loved everything about that character. She is the goddess of birth and rebirth and her lover is Cernunnos, the god of Death. I liked Lisner’s stuff so much, that I urged Keir to take a trip with me to Pittsburgh to meet Lisner one weekend and Keir had to remind me that we couldn’t go because that was the weekend we were getting married. Eventually, I did manage to meet Lisner. I have his Dawn: Lucifer’s Halo, Dawn: Return of the Goddess, and Dawn: Three Tiers mini-series signed by him at home.

After we were married, Keir introduced me to Watchmen and I became an Alan Moore fan. The neat thing about comics is that it’s not just the about the written story. The artwork takes on its own life and in the case of The Watchman the work that the colorist John Higgins did added so much to the whole atmosphere of the tale. I think that was the first time I consciously noticed details like that beyond just enjoying the outcome. If you’ve only ever seen the movie and not read the comic I strongly urge you to do so. Because I also loved the story within the story that is missing from the movie and adds to the whole.

I was introduced to Neil Gaiman through his Sandman series which to this day still remains a personal favorite. I think it may have been a Christmas gift from my husband. In it, Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, is taken prisoner, and it leads him down a really interesting path. It was so neat how all the stories were separate and still part of a whole and I loved the dreamlike quality to the writing. That led me to his book of short stories Fragile Things that I bought for Keir just as he was deciding to launch his own comic book and I was able to get it signed for him. The note from Gaiman encouraging him to take a leap and follow his dreams really made an impact on him.

I think the last series I’ll mention because I could go on all day is Ex Machina by Brian K. Vaughan. It was probably the only series not introduced to me by Keir. I got it from a Twitter recommendation. It’s completely different from any other comic I’ve ever read. The superhero, Michael Hundred, questions whether his powers actually have harmed more than helped people and he decides to go into politics instead and is elected Mayor of New York.

Making this list has me wanting to go back and reread all of these as well as pick up new titles that I missed. Please tell me some of your favorite comic series and why you love them. I’m always looking for something new to read.

Proud geek and comic book artist Morris Proctor wants nothing more than to live in semiseclusion with his devil cat and gamer friends. Despite what his well-meaning family thinks, he’s perfectly content with his status quo. The last thing he needs is to date another nongeek hell-bent on changing him.

Then he meets his adorkable new neighbor, Theo Boarman, who doesn’t know Star Trek from Star Wars, but who tempts him like no other.

Theo has spent the last year recovering from the loss of his parents and trying to play both roles for his teenage brother, while working to keep the family restaurant afloat. Dating is the last thing on the menu, especially with a man who thinks the height of dining is shoving a packaged meal into the microwave.

But if Morris gives him one more shy smile or flaunts that kilt he wears so well, Theo will be forced to convince him that a hot summer fling is just the recipe to let off a little steam.

When that fling gets serious fast, Morris has to decide if he’s willing to give his heart to Theo on the chance that they’re a perfect mix.

About the Author:Marguerite Labbe has often been called both Trouble and Sunshine by those who know her. She’s not sure how she manages to make both those nicknames work together, but apparently, she does. She’s a New Hampshire woman who married an Alabama man, an Air Force brat who has somehow managed to settle herself firmly in Southern Maryland, with one overgrown son and two crazy cats.

Marguerite loves to spin tales that cross genre lines, where stubborn men build lifelong ties of loyalty, friendship, and family no matter the odds thrown against them, and where love is found in unexpected places. She has won the Rainbow Award for Historical Romance with Fae Sutherland, as well as the Rainbow Award for Paranormal and the Rainbow Romance Award for Excellence, also in Paranormal.

When she’s not working hard on writing new stories, she spends her time reading novels of all genres, enjoying role-playing and tabletop games with her friends, and helping out her husband with Apocrypha Comics Studio.

Latigo by BA Tortuga – Excerpt

Long and Short Reviews welcomes BA Torguga who is celebrating yesterday’s rerelease of Latigo.

*****

Hey y’all. I’m BA Tortuga – writer of rednecks and cowboys and down home folks that manage to fall in love. It’s my thing. Latigo is a rerelease from years ago and it’s still the story that is home for me.

I hope y’all enjoy a glimpse into Will and Dean.

*****

“You drink beer, Ace?” He’d get some bait too, and some propane. Batteries. Coffee.

“Yeah. I’m not picky as to what kind either.” Will plopped back down in his chair, grinning over at him companionably. “I’m about as easy as they come.”

“Bud Light, then.” Easy. Oh. Stop it, Haverty. Now. “I got a deck of cards in the cab. Something to do once the sun goes down.”

“You are one prepared man. I like that.” Long, long legs stretched out in front of the kid, the patch at the knee of one jeans leg starting to fray.

“Just used to living on the road.” He slid down in his chair a bit, forcing himself to sit easy. He hadn’t been so tempted to look in six years, maybe seven. Why the hell his jackass body picked now to start was beyond his comprehension.

“Yeah. I think that’s my problem. I got out of the habit.” Sadie nudged the kid’s hand, oozing a bit so she was more between their chairs. Had to like a man your dog liked.

“I keep saying I’ll settle somewhere, but I don’t think it’ll happen. I’ve been living light too many years.” He wasn’t going to change now, he reckoned. “Maybe if I was still young, I’d buy me a setup and stay.”

Will scratched Sadie’s ears, loving on her with that thoughtless, natural motion that said Will was good people. “Yeah? I can see myself staying in one place when I’m older, you know? Maybe going back to Dad’s spread and taking over if my brother doesn’t want it. But right now it makes me stir-crazy. The whole time I was in the hospital, it drove me nuts.”

“Had a long stay?” Like they all hadn’t, at one point or another.

“Long enough. I was in traction for a bit. Busted my leg up real good.” Will unconsciously rubbed his left leg.

“Damn, that’s a shame. I’m sorry to hear it.” He nodded, his back twinging in sympathy.

There was that grin again. Nice to know the kid wasn’t one to lapse into feeling sorry for himself. “We all do it, I guess. Dumb things, you know?”

“Oh, I wouldn’t know a thing about doing dumb shit, Ace. I was born perfect.” He rolled his eyes, pushed his T-shirt sleeve up so the kid could see the ridged scar where a Brahma bull had gored him. “The scars I took so you normal folk wouldn’t feel bad.”

Much love, y’all.

Being a hard-core rodeo cowboy means getting by with little money and less of a future. But for two hardscrabble rodeo riders, that might change….

Dean’s been around the rodeo circuit long enough to know when a new kid is down on his luck. Giving young Will a ride to the next event is just the neighborly thing to do, passing on some of the kindness strangers have shown him over the years. Who’d expect Will to be such good company? So good in fact, that Dean figures he might just keep Will around—especially since Will feels the same.

Traveling from rodeo to rodeo, enjoying all the fringe benefits they can, is a dream come true for Dean and Will. Troubles with Dean’s family and Will’s stubborn pride separate them for a while, but they always come back together when the chips are down. These two cowboys are a match made in heaven—now they just need to convince everyone else to let them live the life they love and find their future together.

Top Five Favorite Books by T.A. Chase – Guest Blog

Long and Short Reviews welcomes T.A. Chase who is with us today to celebrate the upcoming re-release of Blindsided.

Top Five Favorite Books

Hey everyone! I’m T.A. Chase and I’m thrilled to be guest blogging here today. I have a re-release coming out at Dreamspinner co-authored with my marvelous writing partner, Devon Rhodes. But I don’t want to talk about that. You can check Blindsided out at Dreamspinner’s coming soon page.

I’m here to talk about my Top 5 favorite books. Now I could do Top 5 of all time, but that would take way longer then any of us has time for. Lol I thought I would do my Top 5 reads for this year so far. You might think we’re only in the beginning of May, T.A. You shouldn’t have that many books read. Oh trust me…I’ve read 73 books by today. I seriously need to find more things to do with my time.

Anyway, having read 73 books, I have read quite a few really good ones. I’m only doing 5 though, and they’ll be in no particular order. I can’t say any of these 5 are better than the rest. Not at the moment.

To start with:

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I loved every moment spent in the Oasis and all the brilliant references to 80s movies, books and games. (I even enjoyed the movie, though it wasn’t quite like the book)

The Problem with Forever by Jennifer L Armentrout. A few heavy subjects are dealt with in this story, but watching the heroine and her hero learn how to survive was amazing.

I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara. Very dark subject. (an unsolved serial rapist/killer case isn’t exactly light reading) Also, knowing Michelle died before ever seeing the Golden State Killer arrested is painful. Yet the feeling you get from the book was hope. There was never any doubt the police would discover his identity some day.

What to Say Next by Julie Buxbaum. A hero on the Autism spectrum and a heroine grieving the death of her father. Not your common story, yet these two characters work together to create a wonderful story.

Words on Bathroom Walls by Julia Walton. Another unusual hero struggling with an illness that will never be cured. Very poignant yet uplifting in the end because the hero isn’t going to give up fighting for his kind of normal.

Those are a few of my top reads for this year so far. I hope my little descriptions might help you consider checking them out.

What is Your Dream Job? by Kim Fielding – Guest Blog

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Kim Fielding who is celebrating the release of her newest book A Full Plate.

Hi! I’m Kim Fielding, and I’m very excited to announce the arrival of my new Dreamspun Desires book, A Full Plate! If you’re in the mood for a sweet little opposites-attract romance with a hint of spice, this may fit your tastes exactly.

What is your dream job?

In a way, that’s a difficult question, because our answers are often subject to limitations. Some of those limitations lie in our own abilities. For instance, maybe it would be fun to be a rock star, but that’s highly unlikely for someone like me—I can’t carry a tune and have never succeeded at learning to play an instrument. And as an ER doctor once pointed out to me while stitching up a long slice atop my right index finger, I will never become a professional hand model either.

Other limitations lie in practicalities, like what’s going to pay the bills. I think it would be pretty cool to be an artist—specifically, a photographer—but the chances are slight that I’d make enough to cover the mortgage and my kids’ college funds. I’ve recently been telling my 15-year-old that while pro video game player sounds interesting, she might want to consider a Plan B.

Other people’s expectations can also limit us, along with our access to education and training and mentors.

But once we settle on a dream job, and maybe even decide to pursue it, we have to decide what success means to us. Fame? Fortune? Fun? A sense of accomplishment at the end of the day? Making a difference in people’s lives?

In A Full Plate, both main characters are struggling with these issues. Tully makes a lot of money as a corporate attorney, and he’s earned respect from his colleagues. But he works such long hours that he has virtually no personal life, and he’s not sure he feels fulfilled. On the other hand, Sage wants nothing more than to cook at the small-town restaurant his family has run for several generations. But money woes and family obligations have sent him down a different path.

I think it would be wonderful if more of us were free to pursue our dream jobs. I did. I dreamed of being an author.

Here’s something else to dream about: homemade chocolate ice cream. I have this recipe in my collection, but I don’t remember where it first came from.

Double Chocolate Ice Cream

2 ½ oz unsweetened chocolate
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
2 cups heavy cream
1 tsp vanilla
After the launch of female generic viagra, most of the people attacked and affected by this difficulty. It enables you look at your fears in a more natural way by finding a company that sells sildenafil uk buy , or other options. Hard rock capsule is the name of PDE5 which makes sure that the blood does not flows ahead and is said to be the main reason why a person faces erectile dysfunction. http://cute-n-tiny.com/page/64/ levitra sale The cute-n-tiny.com pfizer viagra sales association is usually made as the surgery involves the least blood loss. ¼ to ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
Chopped nuts or mini marshmallows (optional)

In 2-quart saucepan, heat chocolate, sugar, milk, cream, and vanilla until chocolate is melted. Cool. Pour mixture into a blender and process until smooth. Add chocolate chips and blend until chips are broken up. Pour into prepared ice cream maker and freeze according to manufacturer’s directions. Just before done, add chopped nuts and/or marshmallows, if desired.

Makes 1 quart.

Opposites come together for a spicy surprise.

Bradford “Tully” Tolliver has everything—money, a great car, a beautiful condo, and a promising career as one of Portland’s hottest young lawyers. Sure, he puts in long hours and has no social life to speak of, but who needs romance when corporations pay top dollar for his expertise? He hesitates when a colleague asks if her cousin can live with him, but the arrangement will last less than a year, and then the cousin—Sage Filling—will return to his tiny hometown.

But Sage is handsome and intriguing, and his cooking makes Tully swoon. Sage has obligations back home, though, and Tully has offers he might not refuse from a persistent—and very wealthy—ex. Since Tully and Sage each have a full plate, can they make room for a side of love?

About the Author: Kim Fielding is the bestselling author of numerous m/m romance novels, novellas, and short stories. Her stories are set in alternate worlds, in 15th century Bosnia, in modern-day Oregon. Her heroes are hipster architect werewolves, housekeepers, maimed giants, and conflicted graduate students. They’re usually flawed, they often encounter terrible obstacles, but they always find love.

After having migrated back and forth across the western two-thirds of the United States, Kim calls the boring part of California home. She lives there with her husband, her two daughters, and her day job as a university professor, but escapes as often as possible via car, train, plane, or boat. “It’s Valentine’s Day. What’s on your docket?”

“I’m not sure. Aydin said something about a plan and celebration. I’m the lousy boyfriend this time. I hadn’t gotten him anything and was going to on the way home.” The tips of his ears burned. “I was so worried about the review, I kind of forgot it was Valentine’s Day.”

“You forgot?” she blurted.

“I did.” He walked beside her. “I was going to get him flowers.”

“Flowers?” She stopped in her tracks. “Are you serious?”

“He likes them.”

“Not chocolates?”

“He doesn’t like them. I thought he did, but he just ate the ones I got him for Christmas because he didn’t want them to go to waste.” When she started walking again, he fell into step beside her. “I know what he likes—now.”

“Flowers, eh?” She laughed. “And what else? Some hey-hey?” She elbowed him. “Right?”

He wasn’t about to tell her the other gift would be a blow job.

“Well, good.” She stopped at the classroom door. “I hope you have a good night.” She poked her head into the classroom. “Bye, Aydin. Have a wicked hot night.”

“That’s the plan.” Aydin left his spot on the desk and picked up the portfolio. “Ready?”

Heat slid through Brandon’s body. He couldn’t wait to get home. He’d strip Aydin down and taste every inch of him. “Yeah.”

“Good. Let’s go. I drove, so we can blow this popsicle stand.” Aydin carried the case out of the room. “Goodnight, Georgie. Do you need us to walk you out?”

“Nah, I’m meeting my friend Durand upstairs.” She waved. “Night! Do all the things I can’t do but want to watch.”

“We will,” Aydin called.

Brandon stood rooted to the spot for a second. Do all the things I can’t do but want to watch…holy shit. And Aydin hadn’t batted an eye. Damn. Excitement radiated through Brandon. He had the guy, the grade, and good friends. Now, he’d have a hot Valentine’s Day. Sweet, indeed.

“Not nearly that much fun,” Tristan answered, and then he slapped a hand over his mouth. “Oh my God, I didn’t mean…. I don’t want you to think I talk about my exes like that. I’m not a jerk. I mean, not normally. It’s just all new and…. I guess I’m still mad about stuff.”

Jake gave him a sidelong glance. He broke off a piece of the blueberry tart with his fork and ate it. “Sounds to me like you have reason to be.”

Tristan frowned and shrugged. The thing was, Christopher wasn’t wrong. Tristan loved his baking, and he had a belief that if everyone could just taste a perfect piece of bread, a slice of cake just like grandma used to make, the right cookie or tart, all the bad things in their life would melt away for that moment. It was what had made him want to become a baker. A profession that harmed no one and brought joy to everyone was the pinnacle of existence, as far as he was concerned. And if you put on a few extra pounds, well, so be it. Small price to pay for making the world a better place.

But to Christopher bread was just a thing people needed to work off at the gym. Or, as he never tired of telling Tristan, something he needed to work off at the gym.

Jake chewed and then looked at Tristan again. “Man, I’m hungry. If you don’t want me to eat all four of these, you should tell me now.”

Tristan smiled. Even if Jake was just humoring him, that was fine. “Go for it,” he said. “You’re actually doing me a big favor. I need somebody to taste them before I put them on the menu.”

“Oh, yeah?” Jake speared the tart with his fork and dragged it onto his plate like a cat dragging a prize toy. “Whyzzat?”

Tristan shrugged. “Nothing like word-of-mouth for spreading the news.”

Jake made a noise somewhere between a choke and a laugh. “Don’t I know it,” he said.

It was the perfect segue. Now Tristan could actually say “Speaking of which, I’ve had a couple people tell me you have a past” and make it sound totally natural and normal. Tristan grabbed a chocolate tart and leaned on the work table. “So, I, um…. Look, this is awkward—”

“Are you fucking kidding me?” someone said from the front.

Tristan started, and Jake jolted upright. His fork clattered onto the plate, and they both turned toward the door. A middle-aged man in a salmon-pink dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up, black tailored pants, and really shiny shoes stood beside the till. He was blond, the blond softened by the addition of a little gray, and his naturally pale complexion was offset by two splotches of red on his cheeks.

“Two days,” he said as he glared right past Jake at Tristan. Tristan felt as if someone had opened a trap door under his feet. Surprise! He was suddenly falling, stomach where his heart should be, heart in his mouth. “Two days you’ve been in town. You bought a fucking bakery, and you haven’t called Mom? What the hell, Twist? What’s wrong with you?”

“Oh God,” Tristan whispered. He looked helplessly at Jake. “This is Simon,” he said weakly.

“Brother numero uno.” Jake nodded, looking wary.

About the Author: T Neilson writes flirty, silly, contemporary m/m romance featuring recovering addicts, mental health problems, and abuse survivors. Honestly, honestly, the books are silly. I swear.

Okay, maybe they’re also a little angsty in parts. After all, T grew up in the middle of nowhere rural British Columbia, in a family where everything was totally fine and nobody was an alcoholic, so she’s used to living the angsty life. And, yeah, sometimes her books get a little heavy. But her books are also full of good things like mugs of coffee, and hamburgers on the grill, and nights at the beach, and cozy sweaters, and getting mush-mouth in front of a cutie, and his brain betraying him with a freudian slip, and that gorgeous guy he never thought he had a chance with suddenly, whoa, in his arms.

Because, I mean come on. Just because we have heavy stuff to deal with doesn’t mean we can’t get a happy ending too.

Road Trip Frights by Vicki Reese – Guest Blog

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Vicki Reese who is celebrating today’s release of No Tears for Darcy.

Hi! My name is Vicki Reese and I would love to extend my thanks to Marianne and Judy of Long and Short Reviews for hosting me today.

Have you ever been on a road trip and ended up on a road that scared the crap out of you? Or lost your brakes on a steep hill? I’ve been on both – and used these instances in several scenes in my book No Tears for Darcy.

The most scared I’ve ever been in a non-accident situation was on a dirt/stone road (hah!) going up a canyon outside of Wenatchee in Washington. Hubby and I were driving across country from Pennsylvania to meet our newest grandson. When my son said he lived in a canyon, that didn’t mean much of anything to me. Until I got there. The road was one car wide with steep cliff on both sides – one up, one down. And no guardrail. I have to tell you, I was not made for that kind of road trip. When I asked son what they did if one of the other residents was coming the opposite direction, he shrugged and said, “someone backs up”. I couldn’t imagine driving frontward on that road let alone backward!

The other time was as a young teen on a road trip with my parents. I was in the front seat with my dad while Mom and little brother slept in the back. We were coming down out of the mountains of North Carolina into a little town, towing a camper. I noticed my dad pumping the brakes – a lot. But we didn’t seem to be slowing down. In fact, we went faster. He downshifted to the lowest gear, which helped, and did a bunch of other stuff I didn’t understand then (but do now!). We finally drifted into town and Dad pulled into a small shopping mall and got out, leaning down with his hands on his knees. It was only much later (years) that I found out what had happened. Thank goodness my dad was a cop and knew what to do in emergencies. But it was a little touch and go there.

One other scene was loosely based on a combination of Duluth, Minnesota and a small town here in Pennsylvania. In both cases, there is a straight road on a steep hill leading to water. In icy conditions (normal in Duluth!) or without brakes, you have no choice but to end up in the water. Which I’ve seen happen in the small town in Pennsylvania (not naming names).

And people wonder why I don’t like road trips! LOL

Letting love pass them by would be a crime.
Former forensic accountant Cameron’s lost nearly everyone he’s ever loved, and now his vintage clothing shop has been broken into and trashed. When town police chief Will Carson asks an out-of-town cop friend of his for help, Cam takes one look at the dark-haired, blue-eyed detective and knows he’s in real trouble—and it has nothing to do with vandalism or murder.

Pete Minchelli is on leave from his job in Philadelphia due to a gunshot wound, but he figures he can help an academy buddy with some light police work. Plus, he’ll have a chance to experience small-town life. He’s tired of the big city and all its corruption. But he quickly discovers that not all the bad stuff happens in cities. What he doesn’t expect to find is death, treachery—or love.

Although it was barely past eleven, the streets were almost deserted in the small town. He had to smile at the difference. Back in the city, things were just getting started around ten or eleven. Here, even the two bars in town were close to closing for the night.

He slowed to a stop at a red light and noticed that his brakes seemed a bit soft. “Have to get Zeb to check them.”

The lacking of blood near the genitals- We know that buy viagra without rx https://unica-web.com/archive/2017/english/unica-jury.html blood is basic requirement of our pumping organ. These are mechanical devices which can be triggered due to a wide range of sources like relationship issues, emotional troubles, health condition or lifestyle factor that is lowering flow of blood into the commander viagra penis so that when a man becomes old and is related with ageing. It has been also proven viagra online overnight that atherosclerosis is more dangerous for males than for females. Those who get admission in such cialis australia institutes are allotted a proper college or learning center where weekly-basis classes are run. He chuckled. The lights were another difference between a small town and the city. At midnight, all the traffic lights here went on flash so those few individuals on the main drag didn’t have to stop the entire length of town. The cross streets flashed red, turning them to virtual stop signs instead of full red lights.

It was an interesting contrast between the two places. Here, on nice weekends, families and groups picnicked and played at the municipal park. A wide river formed one boundary of the park and gave access to swimming or fishing in the summer and skating in the winter. It was all very idyllic, like something out of a fairy tale. Oh, he knew the small town had its problems—all towns did—but between the two, he thought he preferred the peace and quiet to the noise and bustle of the city.

He got to the intersection where he needed to turn to go to the club and lightly hit his brakes.

There was no responding slowing down. Pete pumped the brakes with the same result. Nothing. The car continued to pick up speed as it traveled down the steep incline that led to the river. Pete downshifted and kept working the brakes. It slowed the car some, but not enough. He turned off the ignition and pulled the emergency brake on. He was still moving in a relentless line for the river and the small fishing dock.

Pete looked around for something cheap to run into that wouldn’t cause too much damage. Buildings and parked cars bounded him on both sides. The park ahead was clear. The tree-shaded picnic areas were too far to the left. He judged his speed and distance. When the car hit the flat grassy area of the park, it slowed more, but again, not enough. He watched as the river grew inexorably closer. With the recent rains, the water was almost as high as the dock.

He judged the speed. With the grass to land on, he could make probably handle a jump. He yanked at the door handle, but nothing happened. The door was stuck. Nor would the window go down. The car reached the edge of the dock and splashed into the muddy water. He dug under his seat for the nightstick he kept there and swung it at the windshield. Water seeped into the car. He kept smashing at the front window as the water crept upward. Outside, it was midway up the windows. Finally the glass shattered and water rushed in. He climbed out over the dash. His shin caught the edge of the window, and he swallowed more than a mouthful of dirty water when he gasped. He was already several dozen yards downstream from the dock in the fast-flowing current. He climbed onto the roof and propelled himself toward the bank.

About the Author:Vicki Reese has been married forever to the one person who accepts that she lives in a fantasy world most of the time. She’s even been seen at the beach building worlds for her stories. In addition to creating suspenseful situations or fantasy worlds, she is very good at boring things like writing procedures manuals and continuity spreadsheets, both of which she actually earned money doing. With a master’s in library science, she likes things organized. Okay, so her family thinks having the spice rack alphabetized is a bit much, but she has no problem finding what she needs when she needs it. And just because her extensive library is catalogued and organized by the Dewey Decimal system doesn’t mean she’s obsessive. Honest!

When not writing, Vicki can be found in the kitchen cooking up gluten free/lactose free/allergy free goodies for her family, or just watching the world go by from her front porch swing.

Five Things Elle Brownlee Likes to Do – Guest Blog and Giveaway

Hello, hello! I’m Elle Brownlee and it’s great to be here to share something about my latest book with you. Staggered Cove Station is a romantic suspense with hunky Coast Guard heroes, and I couldn’t be happier about that.

To go along with getting to know a little about my new book, I’m going to talk about five things I like doing when I’m not writing, so you can get to know a little bit about me too.

1) Walks/hikes + birding
I love the great outdoors, I love adventuring in National Parks, and I love just getting up from my desk and going for a brisk walk. It’s invigorating, it gives my mind a rest but also a boost (the number of amazing plot fixes and fantastic dialogue I’ve come up with on walks—too many to count!), and I almost always see a landscape or interaction or detail that inspires an idea to tuck away for later use in a book.

I’m going to cheat a skosh and add birding rather than make it a separate of the five. I also love birds so much, and any walk I take, I’m always on the lookout for them. Currently I’m studying and learning birdsongs to add to my visual identification skills.

2) Quilting
My mother taught me how to quilt. I have many fond childhood memories bound up with her quilting; exploring and being surrounded by her process, thumbing through stacks of fabrics, fitting cut pieces together into my own designs, and sitting under her huge quilting table reading while listening to her sing along with the radio.

Now I have my own work area and process. Quilts are a meticulous, multi-step project, and that’s part of why I enjoy it so much. Just going to the fabric store and seeing all that promise on shelf after shelf of colorful bolts gives me a thrill. It also engages a different part of my creative brain, giving me a rest from plotting and worrying about grammar, but I’ve found that really helps my writing brain stay flexible. I generally binge-watch something while working, but I still make my own block designs.

3) Organizing
Organizing calms me and orders my thoughts. When I’m at loose ends, have a project get stuck, or can’t sleep, I organize something. I take a break to clear out and reorganize a space, a file, a drawer. I write a long to-do list of various type. I declutter digital piles. And I always feel so much better afterwards.

4) Traveling
In general, the medication is a brand name of sildenafil citrate, the shape, texture and female viagra uk size of the medicine are made with Sildenafil citrate maintain the same effective power. We believe that anybody earning over 10 million a year viagra großbritannien should be paying a luxury tax. Yet, with all the knowledge doctors have these days it still isn’t easier for people to build trust and robertrobb.com order cheap cialis buy it more conveniently. order cheap viagra Erectile dysfunction is quite destructive and is a result of eminent anxiety caused by excessive work loads or concern.
I am always up for an adventure! Whether a grand tour–I took a dream vacation to Italy last year and it was incredible–or day trips, I am here for it. Traveling is like the macro version of walks for me–restorative and inspiring. I love seeing, learning, experiencing new places and things. And traveling never fails to provide so many moments, details, meet cute idea, and inspiration to add to my mental file folders.

5) Reading
I believe every writer needs to read. It’s good for the writer brain, but it’s also good for the body, mind, and soul. Life would be so empty without books! It’s a wonderful way to escape, to adventure, to unwind, to share and enthuse and connect with others, and to think about my own work.

Something I love no matter what I’m doing is tea. I drink it all the time. When writing, when traveling, when trying to write while traveling… So I’m including a giveaway with this post for a gift certificate to Adagio Teas, one of my favorite purveyors. Adagio is also where I create my own signature Book Blends to go with every book I’ve written, which you can find here!

Hope you enjoy my list–and the read!

Rescues are wild in the Alaskan terrain. So is romance.

Sun-kissed California guardsman Dan Farnsworth might be at home in the water, but he’s out of his element at remote, rugged, and freezing Staggered Cove Station. Acclimating proves hard enough, but he’s also digging into how the station’s previous rescue swimmer was lost at sea. Was it an operation gone bad… or something more sinister? Add to that instant tension between him and his partner, no-nonsense Alaska-born Karl Radin, and Dan has his hands full.

As his investigation heats up, so does the attraction between Dan and Karl—even if they don’t completely trust each other. But as suspicious events escalate to sabotage, Dan starts to fear he and Karl won’t get the chance to become more than reluctant coworkers.

About the Author Elle Brownlee has always followed her creative, adventuring spirit. Growing up she loved westerns and taking long hikes. On these explorations she’d craft miniature worlds with moss and rocks while making up stories about everything that happened there. This often included dashing cowboy heroes. As an adult, not a lot has changed. She still loves westerns, long hikes, and allowing her imagination to roam. Usually with a pot of tea at her elbow. Her romances feature flawed but relatable characters in immersive settings, told with wit, tenderness, and a sly note of sarcasm. Though a cynic in many ways, Elle believes love can conquer all. Every story is a little bit naughty, a whole lot of nice, and will always end with happily ever after.

Top Five Things to Do When I’m Not Writing by Parker Foye – Guest Blog

Hello! And thank you to Long and Short Reviews for hosting the first spot of my tour to celebrate the release of my new novel, Mage of Inconvenience.

Today I’m sharing my top five things I like to do when I’m not writing. They might not be things I get to do super often, but they’re things I try to find time for as much as I can.

  1. Swordfighting! I got into HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) when I lived in Vancouver a couple years ago, and I’ve been lucky to find clubs in places I’ve lived since. I mean, yes, I totally started because I wanted to say I can swordfight! But I really enjoy the coupling of physical challenge and research nerdery.
  2. Drinks! … Not like that. When it comes to menus, pass me the beverages every time. Maybe it’s due to the dark days of my barista past, but I’m love trying new drinks. At the moment, I’m all about tea – I brought nearly twenty different types back from my last trip!
  3. Kickboxing! Kickboxing and Muay Thai gyms are way easier to find than HEMA clubs, so I get to do this more often. Some gyms can be intimidating, but once you’ve found ‘your’ gym, they’re super supportive and an amazing workout. Spinning elbow strike, anyone?
  4. Going on adventures! Confession: I’m a sucker for coupon sites. If I go somewhere new, I search for ‘experience days’ and the like. Recently, I’ve had chance to do brewery tours, walk with alpacas, and – personal favourite – husky sledding. In the UK.
  5. Reading! I mean of course, right?

And the best part about this Top Five? Sometimes I manage to convince myself they’re research…

Can they find the magic in a practical union?
Along with all certain concerns regarding men s erectile dysfunction, guys generally found battling to obtain difficult challenging on and somewhat notice drop in buy viagra india erections that isn t a good level for satisfying intercourse. One just needs to find out the reliable and reputed supplier.be sure that you are tadalafil cialis from india receiving a safe, high quality product. Medical science has fortunately made a lot of people bare difficulties and not all the people, those who suffer icks.org tadalafil 20mg for sale from urinary problems, suffers due to this reason. Erection problems can happen due to various reasons and for some patients the reasons can be more pleasing and intoxicating than levitra sale having an intercourse.
West is on the run from his werewolf pack, but if he cannot renew his magical defenses, he won’t get far. What he needs is a mage….

Julian is part of a wealthy and ancient family, and one day, his legacy will include his mother’s vast library of spell books—and the knowledge he needs to correct his past mistakes. But his inheritance comes with a stipulation: he has to be married before he can collect. What he needs is a husband….

West and Julian can help each other, and at first they don’t want anything further. But as they dodge meddling cousins, jealous rivals, and an insidious drug, it becomes clear that their lives are entwined in ways they never imagined—and they’re in greater danger than they thought possible.

About the Author: Parker Foye writes speculative-flavored romance under the QUILTBAG umbrella and believes in happily ever after, although sometimes their characters make achieving this difficult.

An education in Classics nurtured a love of heroes, swords, monsters, and beautiful people doing stupid things while wearing only scraps of leather. You’ll find those things in various guises in Parker’s stories, along with kissing (very important) and explosions (very messy). And more shifters than you can shake a stick at.

Used to living out of a suitcase, Parker is currently of fixed abode in the UK but still travels regularly via planes, trains, and an ever-growing library.
