Top 5: Things you like doing when you aren’t writing

5. Reading – I guess this seems obvious for a writer. I like to read! I read in all genres, including romance, science fiction, fantasy, and YA. I read over 70 YA books last year.

4. Walking my dog – My dog is getting up there in years. He turned 13 last December, but he still acts like a puppy. He just sleeps a lot more. I enjoy taking him for walks around the neighborhood. It’s a great way to work out a plot problem. Just me and the dog and nature.

3. Crocheting – I don’t knit, but I have been crocheting since I was about four years old. Most of our blankets are crocheted, and some were even made by my grandmother.

It takes me about a year to make a good queen sized blanket. And I’ve noticed that dogs seem to love crocheted blankets. We have a few that the dog has claimed. They belong to him now.

I was sitting at my computer chair with one of his blankets on my lap, and the dog came up to me, and pawed at the blanket until it fell off my lap, and then he sat on it.

Like I said, it’s his blanket now.

2. Learning new things- I always like learning about something new. Whether that means reading a book about it, or taking a class, I just want to always expand my mind. So of course I’ve decided to pick up a Master’s degree in creative writing…3 credits down, 45 to go!

1. Escape Rooms! I’ve done over 75 escape rooms over the past two years. If you don’t know what they are, Escape Rooms are a fairly new form of entertainment. You are ‘locked’ in a room and have an hour to find clues and solve puzzles in order to escape.

I’ve done so many fun rooms. Rooms where we’ve had to escape from serial killers. Others where we’ve pretended to be explorers and find our way out of a pharaoh’s tomb. One of my favorite rooms was the one themed like a 1980s video store, where the object was to break in and rescue the VHS tape you forgot to rewind so you don’t get hit with a rewind fee. It was hilariously funny and so creative.

I could probably write a whole lot more about escape rooms, so instead, I’ll let you know that I’m giving away four $10 Dreamspinner gift certificates.

Better to reign in hell….

Uriel 3019 has been a cybernetically altered angel since he volunteered for the program fifteen years ago. His devotion to the floating city of Heaven is fierce, and he’ll follow any command he’s given. But Uriel’s orderly world is crumbling. Angels are going mad, even hurting people. Some are rebelling, and the noble families are vying for control—by any means necessary.

Uriel’s latest assignment brings him into a secret society, where his partner, Raphael, is working for freedom and equality for all angels. Could their group be responsible for the angels’ recent erratic behavior? Uriel is determined to find out—and report on his findings. But he doesn’t count on Raphael’s confession—that he has feelings for Uriel—or the memories slowly starting to return from the time before he became an angel.

Is he on the right side? Does he dare to stand against Heaven, even if doing so will save his fellow angels from becoming soulless automatons? Uriel has to decide if his loyalty belongs to his superiors… or to the angel who’s stolen his heart.
