Top Ten Tuesday: Great Couples in Books

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday!  Valentine’s Day is just around the corner so today is all about great couples in books.  Since I wrote a post on this topic last year, I’m going to try not to repeat too many of the couples from my previous list.  Here is this year’s list in no particular order.

Audrey and Thomas-Stalking Jack the Ripper-I seriously need to read the second book!

Cinder and Thorne-The Lunar Chronicles-They aren’t a romantic couple but their friendship is one of the highlights of the series.

Jane and Gifford (G)- My Lady Jane-I had so much fun getting to know them!

Azalee and Joel-The Modern Greek Myth Series-After everything they endure, they deserve to be together.

Persephone and Hades- The Daughters of Zeus Series-I love re-tellings of Greek Myths.

Beauty and the Beast-Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast-One of my favorite books.

Mercy and Adam-Mercy Thompson Series-I couldn’t help myself!  I had to put them on my list again.  They are such an awesome couple!

Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy-Pride and Prejudice-Would a great couples list be complete without them?

What do you think?  Who are some of your favorite couples?  Did any of my couples make your list?

  1. Anne and Gilbert = forever OTP! Love them, though someday I’m thinking I *should* read the books. Also, I’ve seen Audrey and Thomas, and Lunar characters on some lists already today, which means I need to someday read all these books!! I do love a good romance. 🙂

  2. Oooh Belle and the Beast, and elizabeth and darcy! <3 lovely lovely list!

  3. I need to read The Lunar Chronicles and the Mercy Thompson series.

  4. Great list! I need to give the Mercy Thompson series a try, it’s been on my TBR for years, and Kerri Maniscalco is another author I need to read soon. I love Cinder and Thorne’s friendship!

    • Cinder and Thorne are so much fun!

The Mercy Thompson series is great! It is one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to read it.

      Thanks for commenting. 🙂

  5. Yes, Cinder and Thorne were my favourite part of Scarlet!

  6. Audrey Rose and Thomas! They are perfect for each other! You must read Hunting Prince Dracula! Love love that book and more banter between them and they clearly express their feelings for each other.

    • I just started reading Hunting Prince Dracula! So far I’m enjoying it!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. 🙂

  7. Elizabeth and Darcy are such a perfect pick. And I swear one of these days I’m going to read the Lunar Chronicles.

  8. I had no idea there were so many Greco-Roman retellings! Cool!

  9. Great list. 🙂 🙂 I actually think book 2 of Stalking Jack the Ripper is better than first and I hope you enjoy it when you finally pick it up. 🙂

  10. Cinder and Thorne is a good one. And of course Darcy and Elizabeth!

  11. I really enjoyed every scene with Cinder and Thorne as well. There are so many couples in that series, so it was nice to see the dynamics of a platonic one. Great list!

    • I agree! Cinder and Thorne were a lot of fun. Yes, there were a lot of relationships going on in that series. Plus, as I read Scarlet, I wasn’t sure how I felt about Scarlet and Wolf as a couple. It took me a while to settle in to their relationship, but I always enjoyed Cinder and Thorne’s friendship.

      Thank you for visiting. 🙂

  12. Cinder and Thorne! Such a good one.

  13. Beauty and the Beast are the best couple for this topic! I also think Cinder and Thorne are a great pair, I love their friendship.

    • Beauty and the Beast is my favorite fairy tale and Beauty is my favorite re-telling. Cinder and Thorne are so much fun! I’m glad you enjoyed my list, and thank you for visiting. 🙂

  14. Yay for Audrey Rose and Thomas! Seeing a lot of them today! As well as Cress and Thorne! I forgot to include them but they are without a doubt my favorite Lunar Chronicles couple!

Thanks for visiting my TTT post!

  15. Ooh Mercy and Adam are a good one! And of course Elizabeth and Darcy. I keep going back and forth on whether to read Stalking Jack the Ripper- maybe I should just take the plunge.

    • Yes, Mercy and Adam are definitely one of my all time favorite couples. They are just so great together!

I was late reading Stalking Jack the Ripper, but I’m glad I read it. If you do get a chance to read it, I hope you enjoy it!

      Thank you for visiting. 🙂

  16. I love Robin McKinley, and Beauty was probably one of the first re-tellings I ever read, way back in the day. I don’t know why I didn’t think of Austen for this topic. I like that you include the friendship paring from Lunar Chronicles. The romantic pairing off was a little too neat and tidy for me in that series, but I LOVE the series, and maybe the fact that the characters had other important relationships besides their romances made it work.

You mentioned not being able to make it to work after reading Brokeback Mountain. I gotta tell you–the movie is just as painful. I watched it on a weeknight, and the next day driving home from work I started crying again thinking about it. There were a few scenes seared on my memory from reading the story years prior, and it ripped my heart out seeing them enacted.

    • I love Beauty and the Beast re-tellings and Beauty is probably my favorite book of all time. I read it for the first time when I was probably around 10 and just fell in love with it. I’ve read it many times over the years. 🙂

I agree about the romantic pairings in The Lunar Chronicles. It took me a while to settle in to some of the pairings, but Thorne is by far my favorite character in that series. He and Cinder were just so much fun to watch!

Thank you so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  17. I love seeing Anne & Gilbert around today. I enjoyed watching those two fall in love.

    • Me too. It has been a while since I read that series. I need to make time to revisit it.

      Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

  18. Ahh Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy! Definitely one of the best literary couples <3 I also had Cress and Thorne on mine! Love them. I have yet to read some of these others!

  19. Mercy and Adam are such a great couple! I’ve only read the first 5 in the series – the length is intimidating at this point, haha.

    • Yes, it is a long series, but it is definitely worth it! The books are consistently good, which I think is quite a feat since it is such a long series at this point.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  20. Love, love, love Jane and Gifford! Also, one can never go wrong with Mr. Darcy <3

  21. i didn’t write them on my list, but yes to jane x gifford, anne x gilbert, and elizabeth x mr. darcy! they’re all just so cute together <3 great list!

  22. you are right: The Lunar Chronicles is rich of friendship. I actually love all couples from that series as well.

  23. So many of the relationships in The Lunar Chronicles (be they romantic or platonic) are wonderful! Especially with such a large cast, there’s a lot to work with, and Marissa Meyer did a really good job of it.

  24. Can’t go past Mr Darcy & Elizabeth. The true original pairing!

  25. Completely agree with you about Anne and Gil and Elizabeth and Mr Darcy! Audrey and Thomas seem to be a popular choice – I think I need to read the Stalking Jack the Ripper series!

    • Stalking Jack the Ripper is very good! I just started reading the second book, Hunting Prince Dracula and am enjoying it so far!

      Thanks for visiting! 🙂

  26. Mercy and Adam. Yes! I still need to do the Lunar Chronicles. One day 🙂

    • Mercy and Adam are so great! I hope you get a chance to read The Lunar Chronicles. I was late reading it as well, but I’m glad I finally took time to read it.

      Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

  27. Audrey and Thomas are maybe the only reason I picked up Hunting Prince Dracula and they are the reason I am considering continuing the series! They’re the only part I like in the story. I hope you pick up the second one soon! Great list.

  28. I’ve seen a lot of people actually shipping Cinder and Thorne and they do have some chemistry and snark going on haha.

    • I can see how people would think Cinder and Thorne would make a good couple. I guess I never really thought about them that way. I really enjoy their friend ship though!

Thanks for visiting and commenting! 🙂
