Dylan is startled to find Matthias living in his bedroom, but he is glad when they become friends. It’s the best summer ever! Things change when they learn that the lighthouse is threatened by a greedy treasure hunter who also knows about the pirate legend. He will do whatever it takes to find the treasure…even kidnapping! As Dylan and Matthias team up to protect their home, they begin an adventure that changes Dylan’s life forever.

There’s nothing like spending the summer in a haunted cottage.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about this story was how much attention it paid to Matthias’ personality. Just like the living, he didn’t react the same way to everyone he met. Some people got along with him well, while others saw a scarier side to his personality. There were reasons for these shifts that were explained in the plot, but I appreciated the fact that the resident ghost developed individual relationships with every person who crossed his path. It made me even more curious to see why he’d stuck around after death and what would happen to him in the end.

There was a small plot hole involving how much Dylan’s dad knew about the famous ghost in his hometown that I wish had been explained better. Some scenes made it seem as though the dad knew almost nothing about this piece of folklore despite spending his whole childhood in the tiny town of Salvation Point. Other scenes appeared to hint that he knew far more than Dylan realized. While this wasn’t something that I spent too much time worrying about, it would have been nice to know for sure what the dad knew, when he knew it, and why he stayed so quiet at first about the paranormal rumors about the cottage they were staying at.

Dylan was such a likable kid. He assumed the best in just about everyone he met, and he did a wonderful job of entertaining him in what was a pretty isolated, quiet place to stay for a family who had two active kids. While he definitely had his share of flaws, I appreciated the fact that they were balanced out with so many positive character traits. He’s definitely someone I’d want to explore a haunted house with.

Matthias: The Ghost of Salvation Point was a friendly paranormal tale that I’d recommend to kids and adults alike.

Sorrel Bitter Thyme seems destined to spend her entire life at the Children of Nature compound. Not an ideal situation. She dreams of so much more—a better future, one outside the cult where she can experience freedom.

After working long hours, she’s close to achieving her secret goal. She’s perfected the Dream Cream, which enhances orgasmic pleasure, and it’s time to approach Fancy Free management with her invention. Easier said than done! Sneaking around the cult leader who will steal her idea if he learns of the financial potential is tricky and rife with problems.

Jake Ramsey, a Special Air Services soldier on sick leave, agrees to go undercover in the cult to help local police close a case against the leader. Fun times when a beach holiday with a sexy babe would suit him better. Plain and dumpy Sorrel is his inside contact and not what he expects.

Their partnership works well. A rapport blooms, and kisses meant to cement their cover, take on new possibilities. Jake uncovers secrets, and their loving heats up, passion coalescing into more than camaraderie. Then danger stalks Sorrel. What began as a favor is now deadly serious—a game Jake must win to keep Sorrel safe.

There are a lot of hot moments sprinkled throughout the novel while at the same time the hero is running out of time, trying to find clues to nefarious deeds. He has no idea how close and how hairy things are going to get. There is enough suspense, near misses, spying and subterfuge to keep those pages flipping.

Safeguarding Sorrel is filled with what I’d expect from a cult gone bad. They always start off sounding idealistic and serene. It only takes one person greedy for power, persuasive and cunning in their speech to twist a simple idea into a parody, a travesty of what the original founder intended. The villain is just as vile and twisted as anything you would read about in the papers or on T.V. The author created a very convincing bad guy. So arrogant yet foolish, and the innocent pay the price.

Sorrel had a very smart mother. It was her clever advice that kept Sorrel safe but time is running out. Jake, the hero, saw right through her but there was something that wasn’t quite right. I liked his determination in trying to figure out what intrigued him so. The discoveries were fun and their effect on Sorrel was perfect, leading to a rather unconventional and sexy romance

I liked that Sorrel refused to break. She had an inner strength, even when the bad guy spread his villainous verbal poison, the heroine was able to tough it out. She had a dream, a plan, and she was biding her time. I enjoyed it when Jake’s arrival threw things into disarray. The best part, Sorrel was no longer alone. I adored Jake because he was always so nice to her, helpful and he treated her the way a man should treat a woman. He respected her and once he figured out a few things, that respect increased. I thought that awesome.

What I found odd was the ringleader’s erratic behavior. Sometimes he was lackadaisical, paranoid at other times, but always nasty and mean. I wondered why he didn’t have someone show Jake the ropes, and have someone ‘educate’ him on the rules at Children of Nature’s compound. Considering the exciting and nail-biting climax, I think there’s a good reason. Let’s say he was a bit distracted. That’s an understatement.

The secondary characters were wonderful. I really thought every woman was downtrodden, but then the pots and pans came out. That was a ‘fist-bump’ moment.

Safeguarding Sorrel was a fun read. A lot of hot and steamy action to be sure, but the story and plot was strong enough to stand on its own. I believe this is part of a series but I didn’t feel lost because I hadn’t read any others. Jake and Sorrel, the suspense and intrigue, those were the main focus and everything else was icing on the cake. I’d recommend this book to romance fans who want a fast, exciting read with a happy ever after. Oh, don’t forget the recipe! Yes, there is a great recipe at the end that I am enthusiastic to try. I checked – yes I have all the ingredients. When I try it out, I’m going to remember Sorrel and Jake’s romance.

When a secret society of cannibals kidnap Margaret, can Lyon rescue her before their chances for a future are destroyed forever?

Margaret came to Africa to leave her past, but she just might find her future.

After suffering a terrible loss, Margaret finds very little reason to stay in England. Determined to put her skills to use, she takes a position working as a doctor in Africa. While Margaret had heard of the beauty and danger of Africa, nothing could have prepared her for the reality of living there. Her adventures in adapting to the climate and learning about various culture groups was quite humorous at times and at others a bit scary.

Although Africa isn’t what Margaret expected, she isn’t one to shrink from a challenge. Understandably, she has moments when she breaks down and questions her decision to make such a bold move, but this serves to make her a more realistic and relatable character. She’s a very strong and courageous woman.

As unprepared as Margaret was for Africa, she is even more surprised by Lyon and her feelings for him. Initially, Margaret and Lyon struck me as an odd couple. They come from very different backgrounds. Margaret and Lyon definitely have a strong physical attraction to each other, but I never got the feeling they were really comfortable around each other. They gradually grow to respect each other, and become friends, but I always felt like they were tiptoeing around each other. They weren’t comfortable sharing their pasts at first, which I understand as they have both suffered tragedies. However, once they decided to take their relationship to the next level, things progressed very quickly and Margaret still hadn’t divulged some very pertinent information to Lyon. I really feel something that important should have been discussed before they moved forward. Despite this issue, I do think that Margaret and Lyon have potential to be a great couple. With their strong personalities and chemistry, their lives will certainly be exciting!

Taming the Lyon is an entertaining read, and I enjoyed following Margaret and Lyon on their adventure. Fans of historical romance and happy endings would do well to pick up a copy.

What Nazi Germany did to the Jews did not happen overnight. Although the historians differ on the origin, some argue that the foundation for it was built by the writings and deeds of perhaps the most influential reformer of the millennium, Martin Luther. This screenplay is a journey through his life to give us historical facts as well as insights into his reformation. Whether or not the events of his lifetime could have influenced the Holocaust is left for the reader to decide. The monologues are verbatim copies from Luther’s books, articles, and sermons. Preserving historical accuracy has been the chief goal in formulating conversations missing from recorded history.

This is a short, snappy, historical piece, and a religious historical drama. As a screenplay, it is true to form, giving good visual flashes of the action and artistic snapshots that present the somber mood. Readers can easily picture the setting. This reviewer has written a screenplay and so understands the important differences between one and a fictional short story. This screenplay could well be adapted to that genre and would of course benefit from more internal introspection.

There are a few spelling/grammatical errors, but nothing too distracting. There are strong words here. This story is good but not for everyone. Some may be offended by the overt, emotional religious words for or against certain faiths. Christianity is set against Judaism, at first in a good light then in a poor light—depending on one’s point of view.

The writing is up-close and realistic, enough so that readers can feel the emotion of the actors. The author drew on primary source material, adding to a feeling of authenticity. Reading the actual words of Luther is a fair treatment of this history. One can read this and make a determination about how to feel. For those who only know the basic history of The Reformation, reading this will shed more light on the situation and may change feelings.

Plan A sucks. Move over for plan B…

Sports commentator and reporter, Megan Saxon, has it all. The perfect career and freedom to do anything she wants, but as the years creep by she realizes love, or at least male companionship, has thumbed its nose at her. With the help of her agent-friend, she hatches Plan B. A brief love affair with a younger man will cure all ills and help her plan for the future.

The problem with plan B? Nothing, I repeat nothing, goes the way she plans, and she’s left gasping for breath, dodging reporters and suffering acute embarrassment.

The. Worst. Blushing. Epidemic. Ever.

Long-term widower and werewolf, Jacey Anderson, has moved to small country town Middlemarch to be near his grieving adult stepson, Henry, and to embrace the wide, open spaces with his wolf. He’s not expecting romance and especially with a public figure who attracts reporters like flies at a dung heap. His attraction to the sexy, sassy Megan has disaster written all over it, yet try telling that to his moonstruck wolf.

Yes, this Plan B has potential calamity for both parties. A pity that neither of them has a lick of good sense when they’re in the same room, touching… Kissing… Caressing…

Do you know what I get when I pick up a book by Ms. Munro? An engaging story, an actual plot and a sigh-worthy romance with all its sexiness. I love the theme of second chances. Of discovering that, even if you loved and lost, there’s a solid chance of finding love again. Happiness is about to find Megan and Jacey.

The way Plan B evolved during the planning was interesting but the actual implementation of it was not what the heroine expected. At. All. There is plenty of amusement from that scene.

The editing was clean and the dialogue provided wonderful insight into both characters. It’s written in third person POV and I’m glad it was. When the hero and heroine ‘talk in their head’, a reader learns their pains, fears, confusion and their burgeoning hope not to mention the inside scoop as their feelings for each other grow.

The sense of family between Jacey and his step-son, Henry, and the other secondary characters gave life, believability and substance to the plot, and the camaraderie engaged a reader 100%. These were people, although mostly paranormal in nature, experiencing the same kinds of issues that readers could relate to. And some issues are, as you know, really delicate, like how to tell a human that you’re more than just a man. A common trope is to have the other partner discover the secret themselves in an untimely, inopportune moment and everyone gets emotional. Ms. Munro handled it perfectly.

There’s a wonderful amount of nipping and biting, touching, and getting and giving satisfaction until they see stars. But with all the sexy going on, it doesn’t drive the story; the characters while navigating their romance among nosy and mean spirited reporters, snippy sisters and a surprising oops moment, all kept me riveted and charmed. Maybe even giving me a hot flash or two.

I’ve hopscotched reading books in the Middlemarch Shifters series and I find that I hardly ever feel lost or confused. The author zeroes in on the stars of the story and I get all the info I need to enjoy it. My Plan B is an easy recommend to other paranormal erotic romance enthusiasts. The story is 167 pages and I zipped right through in one afternoon. There is a sneak peek to another book, My Cat Nap which explains why the total page count is higher. The bonus chapter at the council meeting is a very nice touch. I believe other readers will like the emotions the characters displayed in that scene.

My Plan B is a great read. When you pick up your own copy, kick back and get ready to enjoy a fun romance.

If you are beginning to get the impression that I liked this book, then you are observant. I liked the scary island, the fictional past history of so many missing souls, the past and present stories about the mystic yarns of lost ships and lost lives. In contrast, Jim Sieber understands the regret that makes him seek pain and penance. As an asexual averse to erotic touch, Jim sets strict boundaries. But as the relationship evolves, Grant struggles to respect them, and both men realize for their association to continue and perhaps grow into real feelings, they’ll have to explore new ways to satisfy each other.

Jim wasn’t really into BDSM, but his need to feel his mistakes cleansed away by physical pain was overwhelming everything else in his life. What he needed had nothing to do with sex – he didn’t want touching or intimate contact at all – and Jim discovered that therein lay a serious problem, as any Dom who might give him what he craves would also want to supply aftercare and Jim wouldn’t – couldn’t – accept that. Grant was an incredibly wealthy and powerful CEO of his extensive family business. He was always in control and perfectly calm. But all that internalizing was causing his health to suffer and the only way Grant knew to release the pressure was to give pain, to dabble as a Dom. When Grant is introduced to Jim and it’s suggested Jim could be his whipping boy, both men feel this could be the perfect answer to their individual problems.

I found this to be an interesting and somewhat different style of story. I was pleased the author spent a fair bit of time at the start clearly explaining both who Jim and Grant were and why their needs were exactly how they were. I found that each man has non-cookie-cutter requirements and while they can certainly be simplified I felt a lot better and more confidant of the story-line having them clearly and fully explained up front right at the start of the story. It also helped ease me – I had been a little concerned the whole “whipping boy” thing might have a darker slant or be slightly unhealthy. I was impressed and very relieved when this concern was proved completely wrong. Having both their characters, their needs and seeing the two men interact for the first time and show they were compatible and could give the other what they needed really helped me feel good and positive about the story as a whole and had me eager to continue going. I strongly feel this was exceptional writing, plotting, pacing and characterization on the part of the author.

Personally, I wasn’t bothered in the least that neither Jim nor Grant wanted anything sexual from their BDSM/beating encounters. I felt confidant and reassured that the unusual business arrangement between the two men was healthy and despite this being an erotic romance story it didn’t unsettle me that – initially at least – neither man wanted or needed anything sexual. Chemistry and relationships come in many different flavours and for myself I was intrigued to see how this different relationship would develop and pan out. I could certainly understand though that this might not be every reader’s cup of tea. For almost the entire story, Jim and Grant don’t show chemistry in the usual sense – no sexual tension, no glances or steaminess, no flirting etc – and even more importantly there is no sexual intimacy (and even then it’s unconventional) between them until the very end of the story. Readers looking for an erotic BDSM with aftercare and kink and sexual chemistry won’t find that in the traditional sense at all in this story.

Readers looking for something completely different should be as delighted as I was though. While I feel the characters are completely understandable and relatable – a wealthy CEO with family drama and an asexual stripper weighed down with guilt and wanting to atone for his sins – there is so much that I felt was completely fresh and outside of the box here. Once my concerns about the whipping boy aspect of this plot was relieved I found myself really enjoying this story and the different take on what a BDSM relationship could possibly be. I felt this story was still strongly about the relationship and characters and the only “box” it can really fit into is erotic romance, due to the strong BDSM elements, but there was so much more to it than that. I really enjoyed this and will be eagerly re-reading it soon to enjoy these differences once again

I feel this story is well written with relatable characters who know what their needs are and watching as they finally find someone who can give them what they crave is lovely. Refreshingly different this is a great story that I truly enjoyed.

For Evelyn, Jim Crow is an ongoing reality, and in its wake new threats spring up to haunt her descendants. A Kind of Freedom is an urgent novel that explores the legacy of racial disparity in the South through a poignant and redemptive family history.

This book begins with the Winter of 1944 and focuses on specific family members from three generations. Starting with Evelyn, who is the mother of Jackie, and Jackie is the mother of T.C. A captivating but honest work of being born into society’s curse but also personal challenges that cause set backs. Will this family find their kind of freedom?

Each character makes poor choice that leads to their circumstances. Evelyn was attending nursing school when she met Renard and became pregnant with Jackie. Jackie is a single wife due to the fact her pharmacist husband ended up destroying his career and marriage due to his drug use. Jackie is Terry Cleveland’s (T.C.) mother. T.C. is recently released from jail for growing and selling marijuana. T.C. is the youngest of the generation. Will he break the family curse and be the one to make the right decision for a change?

I enjoyed how the author created and shared three generation in one story. Each character had their own personality and struggle and each of their stories were shared and lapsed to where it pieced together where the old generation’s story ended. The flow of the novel had a rhythm that was easy to follow. I like that I wasn’t able to tell ahead what was going to happen in the end. While reading I hoped that things would turn out a certain way but they didn’t.

I would have liked for the author to have mentioned the characters’ relationship more. I think I understood the ties to each story but would have liked the confirmation from the author. After finishing the book I was left with the question of what kind of freedom the author was trying to relay to readers. Maybe it is some underlying message that I didn’t pick up on.

A brave move by the author in her success in weaving three generations together in one heart stopping finale. Life isn’t easy and this is a story of generations that has endured. I enjoyed reading the story of the characters and while reading I was hoping good things would start happening for them. My first thought after finishing the book was that it was sad. I felt sad that the family went through so much and couldn’t get to a happy ending.

This book has such an amazing plot that I can see the author expanding into telling the stories of the other family members. Even though I couldn’t relate the title with the story I would like to read more from this author. Life isn’t always happy and many don’t get that happy ending and that’s what draws me to read more by this author because of her unflinching honesty of how life sometimes can be.

When a blizzard strands the two of them in New York, the nights they spend together are hot enough to melt the snow. As they make their way back to real life, will things ever be the same?

I honestly enjoyed this story. I must caution against reading it while hungry. The heroine, Lena, is a chef. The writer, Chelle de Notte, does an incredible job of describing Lena’s food creations. While I am mentioning the authors writing style I need to share how much I appreciated her attention to detail when describing New York City at Christmas time. I’ve never been and someday hope to see the famous Christmas decorations myself.

Christmastime in New York City was a heartwarming romance that was over before I wanted it to be. I adored the hero, Ryan for his dedication to running his dad’s farm and his loyalty to family and friends. Which points to the fact that the side characters were well developed and relatable. We never met Lena’s family other than her ex-husband who had a small appearance. Mostly the side characters for Lena were her co-workers. One in particular, the bartender, was very contemporary. Over all the cast of characters were a nice blend.

The chemistry between Lena and Ryan was a classic romance. I like how they respected each other and didn’t rush into anything right away. It was nice to watch their love for one another grow and develop. They were mature, responsible and clearly attracted to each other. I was wishing the snow storm would never stop so that Ryan could stay snowbound in New York forever.

The only plot thread that bothered me was Ryan’s dad. I felt bad for him in the end but it was obviously his dad’s issue to work through. Unfortunately, this scenario is all to realistic.

The ending was pretty good. It left me with a satisfying read. I’d recommend this book. It’s was a great way to relax during my camping trip.
