I wasn’t sure what I was going to get when I cracked this eBook. The title titillates and entices and the story does much of the same. I felt transported back to 1984 during the first meeting and wanted to see the heroine/hero get their happy ending.

It took some time to get used to the large bits of back story, though. Early in the book, there are slower spots where the author lets the reader see into the past lives of Giulia and Dante. While I liked the concept of the back and forth, his view, her view, it took some extra reading and reduced the impact of the tale just a tad. I liked the elusive beginning. Her tendency to control was an asset and a liability to me. I liked her forthrightness, but things seemed to go her way just by the echo of her voice and I found that a little hard to take. But she was the perfect match for Dante and showed him his true self, which was sexy.

Desptire those misgivings, the love scenes sizzled. I felt the passion and love in Dante’s actions each time he came onto the page. I wanted to see more emotion and less ambiguity from Giulia and as the story progressed her true feelings did come to the surface, redeeming her in my eyes.

Seth is a man whose character I never felt 100% clear on. Both characters have some major trust issues to work out and it’s a bit straining on the patience when Candace is effectively resistive. But she has her own secrets that mess up the situation for Seth so they both are their own worst enemies and at the same time, a reader knows they eventually will be the best of friends. They just have to survive the bad guys, the insatiable need for sex and the truth when it finally comes out.

His She-wolf is written with fast paced dialogue and has a nice twist on the typical paranormal scene. Her POV is first person and Seth’s is third person POV. It’s presented in a logical order with no unnecessary head hopping. The bed scenes were hot and imaginative with well placed hints of what was to come. Although I prefer the word ‘sneaked’ versus ‘snuck’, it’s not that big a soap box issue for me. The climax of the story was gripping and interesting and made everything fall into place. It also provided more insight into Seth and his personal history. I was entertained by the story and am quite glad I read it.

I have found few authors who can bring my emotions boiling to the surface like Mari Carr did with this story, and that is definitely a tribute to her skill as a storyteller. This is so much more than just a boy meets girl and they live happily ever after tale. This is real and brutal and strong, and worth reading time and time again. To Ms. Carr, I say Bravo, and bring on the rest of the week. I recommend this one for all who love their romance real and hot and on the edge of your seat.

This book is told from Dana’s point of view as if she’s telling you the story. It is fast paced and well written. As he trains her for her positions Simon awakens sexual feelings in Dana that she did not even know she had. Dana finds herself drawn to Simon in ways that are all new to her. The two begin to think that they have more than just a working relationship that it may go deeper than either had planned and they must deal with the missing part of this puzzle: Ethan Cowell.

This story can be intense at times and it is full of strong erotic play scenes. It is not the usual romance story so if you do not enjoy BDSM you may find this story is not for you, but I enjoyed this book.

Dana is an independent woman and Simon is an Alpha male who ends up finding more than just a fun time and a quick lay. Each day their relationship and attraction grows stronger and in the end it could be what saves them. Juniper Bell grabs the reader from the beginning and doesn’t let go until the end. I will definitely be looking for more stories from this author.

But being the empath she is, she feels more than others would and is reluctantly intrigued by the dark man who enters her dreams and dominates her desires. To see his wonder with a world of tenderness and joy as opposed to pain and death and destruction was truly heartbreaking. I love how Ms. Hill can make even the scariest “hero” into someone you want to love and protect. Despite how scary Dante could be, I also found him quite sexy and his single-minded pursuit of Alexis made me shiver on more than one occasion. He’s a great hero with amazing depth and beauty that I was glad to see again, and to see get his own HEA.

A Mermaid’s Ransom crossed two worlds that Ms. Hill has created bringing in characters from the previous Mermaid books as well as pulling some of her Vampires in as well. It was great fun to see old friends again and to watch how these two different worlds overlapped to make this a deep and textured tale of love and redemption.

Now, a warning, this tale, as so many of Ms. Hill’s tales, is not for the faint of heart. While not as sexually explicit as some of her others, it does deal with some rather intense and sometimes scary subject matter that will keep your heart pounding. If you’re a Hill fan, then I don’t think you’ll have a problem but for new Hill readers, be warned that this is not a light a fluffy romance.

Once again, Joey W. Hill has given us a masterpiece, and I’m so glad that I got the opportunity to read this one. Filled with deep introspection, amazing characters and beautiful descriptive phrases, A Mermaid’s Ransom is a definite recommend for all Hill fans and for anyone looking for an intense read that will stick with you long after you turn the last page. I can’t wait to see what else Ms. Hill has up her sleeve, and hope she doesn’t take too long to give me another fix of her amazing worlds.
