Behind the Scenes with Cassandra Dean

Hi peeps,

First off, thank you to Long and Short Reviews for having me. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Cassandra Dean and I write historical romance ranging from sweet to steamy. I also play about in the eras, roaming from Ancient Rome to Victorian to the Old West and beyond. My books take readers on an emotional rollercoaster, from the lowest of lows to the joyous of highs. And, of course, my characters fall into the forever kind of love.

Today, I thought I’d share a typical day behind the scenes of the juggernaut that is Cassandra-dra-dra Dean-ean-ean (imagine echo-y goodness here).

A day in the life of Cassandra Dean, Auteur* (*French. So classy)

Wake up around 10am after a restful and trouble-free sleep. Laugh and scoff at all those plebs who had to get up at ridiculous-o’clock to go to their day job. Enjoy my breakfast of perfectly poached eggs and freshly squeezed orange juice while still laughing and scoffing. Almost choke. Make note to keep gloating to times when I’m not consuming foodstuffs.

Decide to log on to the internet for a quick whizz about the web. Before I can check what glowing reviews have appeared while I slept, my head research assistant comes in bearing a load of paper. Remind her the research should be collated into a precise. Am disappointed she didn’t do this in the first place. Give her new assignment. Really, there’s no call for daggers.

Settle to the internet again. Am interrupted again. This time, it’s my stylist bearing the latest fashion from Milan. It’s okay, I suppose. Honestly, I don’t know what Valentino is thinking some days.

Finally check the webs. Realise my PA has not updated any of my social media. My fans are going to think I don’t care! Log in to each and update with all the glowing reviews I have found. Sigh. Cannot get any good help these days. Have to do EVERYTHING myself.

Decide to check my ratings on Amazon. Have slipped. Demand PA writes a positive review to circumvent any slippage. Now she’s giving me an evil look. Really, is such a thing contagious this morning?

Correction, afternoon. Hmm. Better have lunch.

Three hours and a leisurely lunch at the hottest restaurant in town later, return to my computer. Better check the social medias again. Still no updates. Sigh. Log on and leave more links to glowing reviews.

Stifle a yawn. Oh my, look at the time. Really should get my beauty sleep. Will write tomorrow, I’m sure.

~fin*~ (more French!)
==========================

Golly, I wish my typical day was like that! Well, apart from all the rudeness to fictional staff 😉 In reality, a typical writing day begins once I arrive home from the day job. I’ll log on to the internet, update some stuff, and then I’ll settle in to write as much as I can before I collapse into bed, only to start it all the next day. Not as glamorous, but heaps more accurate!

I hope you enjoyed this (mostly—okay, wholly!) fictionalised account of my day. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy TEACH ME!

Nothing is as it seemed in calm, quaint Legley Bay.

Famous novelist Constance Mansfield lived a seemingly straightforward – if private – and somewhat predictable life. Friends, beloved daughter Sutton, a beautiful home, and all the success an author could wish for. A perfect life….but was it?

When a hit and run accident suddenly takes her mother’s life, Sutton finds hidden secrets with her heartbreak. Emotional walls she assumed Constance had built to protect her privacy may have been to protect something – or someone – else entirely. Family and friends return home for support, including her own lost-love, Declan. He’s the first thing she craves to help her cope with her loss and the questions she’s left with, but he’s also the last person she wants to see. Will he be able to put down roots at last?

Can the loss of true love be the making of a life, or is it destined to be the undoing of everything? When money, power and love combine across time, anything is possible.

Tea and Primroses offers two stories in one!
Its color is brown or black, buy cialis canadian and has hard texture. People talked a lot levitra tab 20mg that how a heart problem lacks the flow of blood in the vein that are around today. Cuddling, enjoying performing hobbies together, spending time together are all ways that can help in meeting price of viagra 100mg your needs. Protect your happy love life generic cialis on line and to have wonderful time in the bed.
The book starts with Sutton, who’s already struggling with some tough decisions, finding out her mother was killed in a hit-and-run that doesn’t exactly appear to be an accident… and in desperate need, she calls out silently for her best friend from childhood (and the man she fell in love with), Declan.

Interestingly, he hears her…. sort of. Apparently, he’s always been able to tell when she’s in trouble and so, despite the fact she destroyed his heart several years back when she wouldn’t marry him, he hurries to her side and makes it in time for her mother’s memorial. And thus begins the real story.

This book was told in real time, and then again in flashbacks of a sort. Sutton’s mother, an author, wrote a book about a year of her life that she’s never spoken about. A year when she fell madly in love with a married man, and then had her heart broken. The ramifications from those actions reflect throughout her life.

This is less a real mystery than it is a story about chances and choices. It’s loaded with descriptive narrative which can sometimes slow the pace, and many things that are meant to by symbolic, which if you’re not into “deeper” stories may not appeal.

There’s never any doubt that Sutton and Declan love each other, and I still don’t completely understand why she wouldn’t marry him. She had reasons, which clearly made sense to her, but I found them less than believable. I also found her choice to become engaged to the exceptionally strange man she chooses equally difficult to believe.

The secondary characters here are very well rounded and interesting. I loved how they weren’t any of them perfect, but so very real. I’ve also discovered this book is part of a series, but it stands alone perfectly well.

I did enjoy the journey of discovery Sutton takes and watching her slowly become the person her mother (and Declan, for that matter) always believed she could be touched my heart. And ultimately, that’s the strength of this story. It broke my heart that her mother died before she could tell her the story in person, and that she had given up so much happiness because of the past.

Overall, this was a sweet, touching story. Again, the mystery isn’t really one (I have to admit to being surprised no one picked up on the link between so many deaths in a small town, despite the years between them) and knowing “whodunit” was not difficult to figure. That’s not why you read this.

You read Tea and Primroses to have your heart sigh a bit at how life throws people curves, and how we can build ourselves back up when we’re knocked down, especially when we have people in our lives who love us. That’s its strength.

Evil lurks in the waters off the Oregon coast. A lone girl, a magnificent horse, zombies… Can hope prevail with each hoof beat in the sand?

All Taryn wanted was to have a horse again.

When she spotted the black steed running through the ocean waves, she knew there must be a way to capture the feral horse. Her best friend, Flyn, said it wasn’t possible. Not one to turn away from a challenge, will she risk friendships and love to make her dream come true?

Flyn has been Taryn’s self-proclaimed protector since they were kids. Thrust into a world of unpredictability, he tries his best to keep the strong-willed girl out of trouble. Taryn stumbles upon a horse and decides she wants to make it her own against his growing concerns. Will he be able to keep Taryn safe, or will she be lost to him forever?

Is there any point in wishing for impractical things when there’s no guarantee you’ll live to see tomorrow? Of course Taryn knows how dangerous it is to grow up in a world full of zombies, but she can’t help but to dream of what it would feel like to ride a horse again.

Taryn is one of the most interesting protagonists I’ve met so far this year. Her strengths and flaws reveal themselves early on in her adventures, and she definitely possesses quite a few of each. Sometimes her unrelenting stubbornness made me wish I could climb into the scene and persuade her to listen to other points of view, but her empathy and curiosity kept me rooting for her until the conclusion.

I did notice some grammatical errors in the text as I was reading. There were also a few instances in which the characters’ syntax was unusual. It was never quite clear to me if the author was writing a new type of dialect that was created by the large number of orphans in the plot whose education has been sparse to non-existent or if these oddly written sentences would have disappeared with another round of editing.

Strong, even pacing drew me back into the story. There is little room for sentimentality or nostalgia in this world because the characters are forced to spend so much of their time gathering supplies and outrunning the dead. This realistic look at what it would take to keep a small community functioning under such dangerous conditions when a large percentage of their members are young children and teenagers piqued my interest almost as much as the dilemmas Taryn and her makeshift family face.

The paranormal elements of this tale captured my attention immediately. It’s fairly rare for a zombie novel to include the types of phenomenon that the author inserts into the text, so I was curious to see how everything would tie together. I would have liked to see more time spent developing this subplot. It’s a unique twist, yet the amount of space it was given wasn’t quite enough to explain all of the questions I had in the beginning.

It took me a while to determine the most appropriate age recommendation. Taryn is a few months shy of 16 when the story begins, but her emotional response to her circumstances and her obsession with the horse make her come across as someone who is a few years younger than her chronological age. There is a genuinely innocent and naive side to this character that is often at odds with her surroundings, and it is because of these traits that this story is suitable for high school students of any age.

I’d recommend Horse of Wind and Shadows to anyone who would like to shift effortlessly between genres. This novel is equal parts young adult and science fiction with just enough horror thrown in to remind the reader that there are always zombies lurking beyond the perimeter.

It’s never too late to learn the truth about love…if you dare.

Straight-laced hospital administrator Oliver Watkins has the heart of a rebel.

Coming of age in the freewheeling seventies meant that Oliver’s rebellion manifested itself in always doing precisely what he was expected to do.

It is something different and is worth the best prices on sildenafil trouble for most people. Penile injection therapy is yet another treatment method that is used viagra sale during a drugs production . The second major step is to identify purchase levitra online which approach suits the patient best. Keep in mind, ED is a curable disorder Fact – ED is actually an http://cute-n-tiny.com/cute-animals/my-cute-new-kitten/attachment/lilu/ soft viagra tabs incurable disorder; however, it can be treatable with effective medicines. With his wife gone and his daughter grown, the survival of St. Blaise Regional Medical Center has become his main focus in life. That is, until the results of a routine blood test give him the nudge he needs to indulge in forbidden fruit.

Dietician Anne Silverstein has enjoyed a smorgasbord of experiences, but none shaped her life more dramatically than finding a lump in her breast at the ripe old age of twenty-six. In the years since she triumphed over death, Anne has learned to embrace life by taking each new day as it comes.

When Ollie Watkins, stumbles into her office looking for more than a few tips on lowering his cholesterol, throwing caution to the wind is a no-brainer for free-spirited Anne. But the home remedies Anne and Oliver cook up together leave them both ravenous for more. Suddenly one finds one day at a time is not enough and the other fears it’s way too much.

Dr. Oliver Watkins can’t stop glancing at his watch, wishing away the hours until 2pm arrives. For it’s after two that Anne Silverstein – the small hospital’s part time dietician – starts work. Oliver had worked up the courage to consult with Anne, but decades of being a straight-arrow, and a perfect, pristine gentleman just like his late wife desired him to be couldn’t come crumbling down all at once. Oliver had a battery of tests run and discovered his cholesterol was slightly above the average. Using this thin excuse, he sets himself purposely in Anne’s path, hoping to get to know her better and start a relationship with her. Even though they are carrying hurts from the past, the sizzling attraction can’t be denied, and all too soon Anne wonders just how two such different people can build a future together.

I loved the concept of a nudie calendar to link together all the characters. Miss December is a firecracker. Long past her first blush of youth, Anne is a saucy, no holds barred character that just leapt off the page at me. Comfortable in her own skin, proud of her wrinkles, extra pounds of flesh and grey hair, Anne is a woman who knows herself and knows exactly what she wants. Although she’s fantasised about Oliver, he’s never given her the slightest inclination that he’s interested. So when she sees through his platonic request for a consultation things get heated very quickly. The author does an awesome job of making Oliver and Anne three dimensional characters. They’re not just cookie cut outs, or a doctor and a dietician with a few quirks thrown in. I feel like the author really spent time and effort to flesh them both out. We learn a lot about Oliver and his history, on how he became the man he is now. And the same thing is done with Anne. They’re well drawn characters with complex personalities and their own set of baggage. Yet I still found their coming together romantic, funny and hot, it was a delightful mixture of realistic and romantic fun.

I also really enjoyed how neither Anne nor Oliver are the traditional twenty or thirty something characters. It’s refreshing to read about middle-aged heroes and heroines, about how love can come a second time around to people. And while Anne might not be swinging from the chandeliers and Oliver mightn’t be going six times in a row each night – they can certainly still get hot and dirty, steamy and expressive in their sex! Both Anne and Oliver have issues from their past, and together they work them through. While there isn’t much plot outside their characters, coming together and working on their relationship, this is a heartwarming story with a healthy dose of sizzling sex.

I found the erotic scenes tastefully written, something I’d share with good friends and maybe even female relatives. There’s nothing outside the box, nothing to hide or blush over reading – though the scenes are graphic in nature. I would have enjoyed a bit more plot, but for a character-based, erotic book I felt this ticked most of the boxes for me. I’m pleased to have read a number of this series and can strongly recommend both the author and this calendar based series.

After five years as a single dad, Warren Mueller can spout the reasons why purple is ‘so much cooler’ than pink, wield a fairly competent glue gun, and fumble his way through a decent set of pigtails. The only thing he hasn’t figured out is how a big, clumsy farm boy like him caught the attention of an exotic beauty like Susie Chen.

A tiny Asian-American cursed with more brain than brawn, Susie has always been attracted to big, burly corn-fed men who drive pick-up trucks and spend their weekends fishing, hunting, and paddling canoes.

She likes Warren Mueller, not that she could ever have him. The protective barrier the town keeps around its young widower and his little girl seems impenetrable…until the night of the St. Blaise Elementary Fall Festival.

If a picture says a thousand words, a single snapshot of Warren speaks volumes to Susie. He wants her as much as she wants him, and if he isn’t a big enough man to admit it, she’ll just have to show him the way.

Susie Chen has been lusting silently after Warren Mueller from afar for too long. After losing his wife five years ago, his only focus had been being the best dad he could to his little girl, Lily. When Susie’s friend, Macy gets a picture of the longing on her face, Macy bets twenty bucks that Warren will agree to go out with Susie should she ask. Determined to try, Susie bites the bullet at the school fair, and both she and Warren set out on an adventure neither could ever have imagined.

This is a heartwarming tale about lusting from afar and finally taking the plunge. Warren lost his first love, and five years of raising his daughter alone has taught him innumerable things, like how to make pigtails straight, the importance of pink and purple being on everything and the fact when it comes to Lily, he’s wrapped tightly around those small fingers of hers. I really enjoyed how Susie had no desire to encroach on Lily and Warren’s relationship. Susie was a really good blend of being maternal but not having a craving for children and wanting to somehow make Lily “hers”. It felt balanced and realistic to me. I also liked the light-hearted, fun feel to the whole story. The idea of a nudie calendar with a different person from the town each month was fun and fresh. I feel bad I’ve started down toward the end of the year and plan to eagerly search for more months!

I felt a bit mixed about the strength of feelings Warren still had for Amy – his dead wife. In some respects I understand. No matter how much time passed, it’s logical that Warren would still love the Amy he married and had a baby with. But I would have thought those feelings should be softer, less intense after such a long time. They wouldn’t (and shouldn’t, to my mind) be gone entirely, part of him should always love Amy, but I was surprised that after five years they were still so deep and intense for Warren. It felt a little strange and not believable. Other readers might feel completely differently though.

I also felt quite surprised at where the author decided to end the book. It felt as if the final few chapters had been cut – or the word limit had been reached and she’d *had* to stop. I would have enjoyed this book a lot more had there been more resolution. How did Lily feel about her dad seeing Susie? How did Susie get along in those first few meetings with Warren’s parents? When I finished I found I had more questions than when I began, and while it’s a happy ending – and clear that Susie and Warren are together – there is almost no explanation of “what happens next”, no family discussion or introductions, no going out together for coffee and hearing the towns reactions etc, no…closure. It’s not an unhappy place to finish, but it certainly struck me as not the end of the story – as if it was Part Two of a three part serial story.

Readers looking for a story about interesting and warm characters and their coming together will be very pleased. There were a few hitches for me, personally, but the whole story has a wonderful, tender and loving feel to it. The characters are engaging and interesting and the author has an addictive style of writing. I will be eagerly searching for more in this series.

Opting for sildenafil canada pharmacy – the Jelly or tablets? levitra comes in a jelly and tablet form.
The Unseen Terrorist is divided into over twenty short essays about what it’s like to live with HIV or AIDS. The personal stories are by far my favourite part of this collection because they are culled from such a diverse group of people. After Emeka found out he was infected, for example, his family arranged a marriage between him and a woman who had no idea he was sick. The repercussions of that decision affect two families forever, and I couldn’t stop reading until I knew what happened to him and his new bride.

There are numerous grammar and punctuation errors in the text. Certain words are also capitalized in the middle of sentences for reasons I was never able to figure out. At first I wondered if they were translations of slang terms from the author’s culture that carry completely different connotations in English, but my theory was never confirmed or denied.

This book also includes quite a few charts, graphs, photographs, cartoons, and other illustrations. While the vast majority of them were easy to read, I was never able to figure out the words on the flowcharts that appear to be explaining how quickly HIV spreads from one person to the next. The titles of these charts are clear, but the rest of the writing is blurry due to the quality of the snapshots and how small these pictures are. The ones I was able to read were fascinating because they reveal so much about the cultures of the people who created them. The natural course of AIDS for patients who are not on any medication for it is the same everywhere, but the society they live in has a huge effect on whether they have access to those drugs, who they do or don’t tell about their diagnosis, where they live and work, and a long list of other factors that affect quality of life. I wish I would have been able to puzzle out all of the charts so I could learn more about this aspect of living with HIV because it was such an interesting approach to the disease.

It took me a while to determine if I should recommend this to the 14+ or 16+ age groups. I ultimately decided on the younger age group because so many of the case studies involve people who who had barely reached their teens when they contracted HIV. The inclusion of so many children and young teenagers living with this disease make the lists of statistics come alive. It’s much more difficult to ignore a true story than it is a list of numbers or percentages.

The Unseen Terrorist is a sober look at a disease that affects people from every country in the world. This is something that I’d recommend to adult and teen readers alike.

As the snowdrifts deepen outside their ancestral home, can they rekindle the flame that burned so bright and find a new path to forever?

The start of a fun new series and a great ride!

I like a book that holds my attention and makes me want to keep reading, despite the late hour. This was one such book. I had to know what would happen. Lily Dalton’s writing flowed well and she engrossed me with the fine tale.

This is a book of second chances. Lady Sophia’s husband is known for being a bad boy. She shouldn’t want to love him. Shouldn’t want his touch. And yet, she does. I respected her desires. A first love is a very strong love. Ms. Dalton conveys this emotion in the story quite well. What I had a slight issue with was Sophia’s tendency to believe rumors rather than find out the truth. I liked her, but I wished she’d have been a tad stronger.

Vane is interesting as well. He’s got a reputation and in the Ton, everything is gossiped about. I felt for him because yeah, he was a man about town before the marriage, but he actually seemed pretty upstanding. The fact that he wanted his wife back–especially after what happened–was quite nice. I won’t give away any spoilers, but I could understand why these two broke apart and why they had a hard time reconnecting.

I did enjoy the ending and how these two sorted through the rest of the book. It’s worth the read. Grab a copy.

An eclectic mash up of styles and genres, this collection features over twenty stories inspired by the ports of call on a 2012 voyage with the Japanese NGO Peace Boat. A Japanese maid in Tokyo, a power hungry vizier in Istanbul and a sailor assailed by ghosts while navigating the Panama Canal are just a few of the varied characters to be found inside.

Imagine getting to know someone or someplace new over the course of a few paragraphs. While a few entries are a little longer than that, most pack all of their action into extremely small spaces. Several different genres are represented throughout the pages, although none of them are present in every single vignette. Jumping rapidly from one genre to the next kept me on my toes from beginning to end. By the end I learned to prefer the shortest pieces of flash fiction because of how easily they melt into one another.

“Tokyo (1)” is an excellent introduction to this unique book. It follows the thoughts of a young woman whose employers make her stand outside and lure people into their cafe while wearing revealing clothing during a bitterly cold evening. I was mesmerized by the difference between the persona she adapts and what she’s actually thinking as she works. Like all of the tales in this collection, it left me wishing for more when it finished.

A few flash fictions would have worked much better had they been written as traditional short stories instead. The narrator in “Panama” has a paranormal experience while standing on the walkway of a docked ship that initially made me shudder. The idea of encountering what the narrator finds is fascinating, but the concept is too large for this kind of format. A few other tales felt similarly rushed and would have also done better had they been given more time to develop.

Another favourite of mine is “Rome.” In it a bored man who is reluctantly part of a walking tour group discovers something that no one else has seen for many generations. I especially appreciated the abrupt transitions between time periods in this short story because they were so helpful in understanding where the narrator is coming from and why he reacts the way he does in the first few paragraphs.

I’d heartily recommend Peace Boat to anyone in the mood to be swept away into other times and places. This is a well-organized collection that I had a hard time putting down.

Eternal life — and eternal torture.

Forever young, forever strong, forever bound to their temple — a cult of vampire priests, sustained by the blood of their god.

The Great Chand, God of Lust, Ruler of Fertility and Death. Punished by his fellow gods for his insatiable appetite for sex, sentenced to eternity in the Netherworld, separated from all he once cherished. Each year the priests summon the Lust God, who takes over Kabir’s body. Chand’s promise, eternal life in exchange for a week of freedom. For a hundred years Chand has kept his promise. A taste of his blood each year keeps the priests alive and almost godlike themselves, but at a terrible price.

For a hundred years Kabir has withstood the ritual, hosting the god’s terrible lusts, suffered through ecstasy and horror such as no man should endure. There is but one way to break the curse. A mortal woman must fall in love with both Chand and Kabir. After more than a century, Kabir believes he has finally found such a woman. Tamanna fears neither man. But does she have the strength and compassion to love and accept two such opposite mates?

In this case, patients online cialis are advice to take other means of remedial measures like impotence injection and penile implants. http://deeprootsmag.org/2012/09/07/going-mobile/ online cialis Cycling is undeniably one of the best exercises to prevent physical debilities in old age. From its parts, ‘Dys’ means wrong or cryptic ( for instance, as in ‘dysfunctional’ ) and ‘lexia’, means applying to 100mg viagra words and letters. A viagra sales in canada person has to first see to it that what kind of disorder he is facing. Despite the title, it’s not all wham bam slam the ham. Sating the Lust God is actually a story with heart. The heroine had to work her tail off to find it behind the fortress it was hiding behind but she eventually does touch the god’s emotions and that journey is why this book works so well.

As with most erotic stories lately, the tale starts off with a heavy dose of lust. It’s a dream sequence and it’s truly pertinent to the momentum of the story. If Tamanna hadn’t had the hots for the Lust God, Chand, the whole story wouldn’t have worked. The heroine has a strong empathy for others and a caring heart. All it takes is one look from a year ago for her to plan her future. Of course, the surprise twists that are in store for her could never have been imagined by a simple woman living in a hut. In fact, the whole scenario she takes part in is all a lie. But to what end and why is only found out once she gets her wish, to be with Chand.

Kabir is a victim of circumstance. He’s also swallowed by the lie but for him there is no escape. I felt bad for him but by the same token, I was impressed with his inexhaustible persistence in not giving up. His perseverance provided another catalyst that changed the course of his life as well as Tamanna and Chand’s.

I didn’t list M/F/M initially because I wasn’t too sure if it qualified. You see, Chand and Kabir share the same body but when Chand’s in charge, he has four arms yet Kabir is still around, floating in his own brain while his consciousness is ruled by Chand. I didn’t list M/M either because it was only a couple of sentences with one of the ‘priests’ and the changeover of Kabir to Chand. To say this is a busy book is an understatement.

When Tamanna is finally is alone with Chand is when the magic of this story occurs. The author systematically showed the heroine chipping away at the lust god’s stubbornness and inability to share. He tries to stay invulnerable but her treating him different that all the ones before and Kabir constantly needling him about it, wore the god down. That whole process was touching, sometimes sweet, oftentimes annoying for the heroine but the one that that never failed was the sex. Those scenes were well written and plentiful but my favorite is when Chand became confused with the non-sexual touch. What’s a lust god going to do with a nonsexual touch? I found that amusing and kind of endearing.

Ultimately, the three beings have to come to a decision. And as this is a romance, I was treated to an unusual happy ever after that was perfect for the characters. I found it rather sweet, in an understated sexy kind of way but a little funny too. For the three of them who started out with no hope to end up actually finding their own slice of happiness made this a pleasurable read and worth spending an hour or two with.

Sating the Lust God is a fun, entertaining and sexy read that really made the time fly. I enjoyed the unique dynamics of a threesome but in a twosome. I liked the progression of the dialogue – from arrogance to loving, from impatience to caring. It sure is a different kind of romance; there’s a lot to like and it’s why I have no hesitation in recommending this book to readers of erotic fantasy romance.

Can he dare to hope she might still love him after she spends one night in his custody?

Olivia Fitzgerald is at a friend’s hen’s night and has had a few too many tequila slammers. Michael Williams was a long ago ex boyfriend and now is a policeman. When two of Olivia’s friends “assault” Michael, he and his partner are forced to arrest them. Incredibly drunk – and a little jealous of the attention – Olivia soon finds herself pressed against the police car and Michael’s rock hard body. Despite their past, Olivia and Michael had never had sex. This time Olivia isn’t going to take no for an answer – but Michael also has a few tricks up his sleeve.

This is a steamy novella full of spunky characters and a lovely bit of kink. I enjoyed how Michael is controlling, but not a jerk about it. I thought it was clear from the outset he still held a torch for Olivia, and she clearly hadn’t ever fully got over his refusal to have sex with her. While the set up of their meeting – a bunch of drunken girls being nabbed by the cops for outrageous behaviour – wasn’t very new, I found Michael and Olivia’s situation and their characters were fresh enough to have me invested in their relationship and interested in how things would progress between them. I was also impressed by how Michael had enough control over himself to leave Olivia while she was drunk and not really able to properly consent to his full wishes. I felt this spoke a lot about his character and put him in a positive light.

While not for the faint of heart, there’s nothing too offensive or over the top kink wise in this book. Some restraints, oral sex and a bit of spanking certainly makes for spicy reading – but I didn’t find it really pushed the envelope. I’d think this would be a good book to recommend people who like some kink in their erotic reading but nothing truly “out there”. I enjoyed reading about Michael and Olivia and while I found their coming together a little too smooth to be realistic or believable, it was a really great read and something I’d happily read again when the mood strikes. Recommended.
