Where do the ideas come from, especially the fantasy stories? Funnily enough the fantasy ones come to mind easier than the romance books.
It’s the start of spring here in the Southern Hemisphere, but last summer I saw a wonderful, unusual name on a boat. Unfortunately on closer examination I realized I should have had my glasses. The name was really quite ordinary. However my first impression stuck with me and a whole world and plot evolved. It isn’t finished yet but I’m longing to see where it’s going to end up.
Another story came to me when I was searching for a graphic to use on a book trailer. The image had no resemblance to what I wanted for the trailer, but it sure got the creative juices going and there’s another one on the computer waiting to be written. I’ve already decided this will be the first in a series.
A visit to the library and a thought crossed my mind. What happens in the library after it’s shut and the lights are out? You won’t have to wait long to find out the answer to that one. I would hate to look inside my mind, it must be the most cluttered, untidy place with bits of stories entwined with thoughts of family, friends and work, unless of course my muse has invited friends in to help her tidy up). When I think about it though, I doubt if it’s much different from most authors’ minds. We tend to tuck plots and details away ready to be used at a moment’s notice. Our main problem is finding them again.

There used to be a television ad for a college awhile back and their “grab ya” line was, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” I’d add, “so why waste time trying to clear up all the great ideas floating around!”
