Every time Dixie Honaker feels that a ride on the love boat with her elegant, silver-haired neighbor Walter may be about to happen, Banger, her rude but good-hearted mutt, does something to splash cold water all over them.

Despite Banger’s helping to rescue Walter after he is mugged, the man still finds the dog a little too grungy for his taste. He feels the same about Dixie’s lovable, wild-ass son, with his pregnant girlfriend and druggie pal. But never fear, Dixie eventually nails down the truth about who mugged Walter and helps everyone else work out their problems—everyone but Banger, that is, who ends up in court on Halloween Day and needs a special dispensation of justice from the unlikeliest of sources.

It’s pretty uncommon for a secondary character to be the title character in a romance. Even more uncommon what that character is a dog. But Banger is the perfect choice for this novel. On the surface – this is a novel, or a romance novel between Dixie and Walter. Look past the surface to find the complex relationships and what connects them all? You guessed it – Banger – the dog.

This is not a novel for the reader who is looking for a light-hearted read or for the reader who is looking for a “down and dirty romp”. But rather, the reader who will enjoy this story is one who devours stories of relationships and daily life – the good, the bad, and the ugly as it were.

We’d like to find a hero and a heroine in every story we read. It’s pretty hard to do in this particular one. Not that this is a bad thing – each character is written in a “warts and all” style. The loving, caring, supportive sides, as well as the fearful, selfish, and crabby sides.

Dixie and Walter seem to be the “couple” most involved in the story. Yet, we see them together and apart time and time again. Even when angry at each other, we find them doing caring things for each other as well as for the people they care about.

Banger not only brings Walter and Dixie together, but he also brings Dixie back to her son, and to her son’s friends. These friends have a whole new set of issue and bring additional complexity to Dixie and Walter’s lives and relationship. Banger also brings “Officer Blair” into the picture – which not only adds another layer to Dixie’s life, but also tidily wraps up the story.

While this story is well-written and enjoyable, Ms. O’Dell uses several terms that are not familiar to me, (nor to my Kindle’s dictionary). I put this down to region and regional dialect, but it did give me pause while reading, and exercised my “reading in context” skills.

There were also several times when I was confused by the addition of singular lines of poetic text inserted into the story. A re-read revealed Dixie’s habit of quoting poetry during stressful times. An endearing quality to say the least.

In the spirit of disclosure . . . it is listed as a “holiday” book. Perhaps misleading, but in fact, the story “wrap up” is in fact on Halloween, and is alluded to throughout the book.

This is not a novel for a quick read. It took me much putting down and picking up to finish it. However, the character complexity and relationships used within the story are what makes the story as a whole.

A GARDEN OF EARTHLY DELIGHTS

Pushed out of his own start-up company, Tom McKittrick is ready to lick his wounds in private at the rural family estate he’s inherited. But he isn’t prepared for his Garden of Eden to have a built-in Eve—a reclusive naturalist with a long-term lease on the caretaker’s cottage, a knack for gardening, and an incredibly beautiful face.

A PARADISE FOR TWO

April Fairchild is not about to let Tom McKittrick order her out of the home that has been her cozy retreat from the world. But she has to feel sorry for him—the corporate bigwig is clearly out of his element in, well, the elements. April knows she can teach this hunky guy a thing or two about how to relax. All she has to do is sow the seeds of romance…and let nature take its course.

Will April and Tom ever realize how much they need each other?

April and Tom are two of the most stubborn people on the planet. They both have their reasons for wanting to stay on the estate and both are so set in their ways they don’t even realize they are the only ones standing in the way of their happiness.

I really liked April’s spirit. After she left her husband, she escaped a stifling life in the city and moved across the country to pursue her own passion and start her an herb business. No longer would she be content to let others tell her how to live. I loved watching her care for the beautiful gardens on the estate as well as the many adopted cats she took under her wing. Her compassion for those around her made her a very warm and likable character.

At first, Tom comes off as a typical city boy. I smiled at all his failed attempts to adjust to country life when he first arrived at the estate. I could clearly picture how pitiful he must have looked when he showed up on April’s doorstep soaking wet in the middle of a thunderstorm. Though Tom is clueless when it comes to living in the country, he is a strong, smart man who clearly knows his way around the business world. However, Tom isn’t invincible. He has a mild heart condition and is under doctor’s orders to makes some changes to his lifestyle. The vulnerability of the heart condition softened Tom’s image as an executive suit and made him seem much more real and human in my mind.

Most of the secondary characters were types who simply filled in the background behind Tom and April. Tom has a lawyer with a sleazy attitude who cares for nothing but money. April’s friend, Raven, is an interesting character, but I don’t think he quite lived up to his potential. However, I will say that Raven’s appearances injected a bit of much needed humor into April and Tom’s lives.

One of the things I liked most about Risking It All was how well Tom and April complemented each other. They both had very different talents and skills that they could share with each other. Tom and April manage just fine when they are apart, but when they work together, they have the potential to accomplish anything they set their minds too. They also had great chemistry and watching them fall in love was a pleasure.

I enjoyed reading Risking It All. Tom and April’s verbal sparring was truly entertaining and their happy ending was well deserved. I recommend Risking It All to anyone looking for a quick and fun romance.

Kitty Irish has heard all the rumors swirling around Daniel Phinney. Most of them involve a gun, a flask, and a temper. One chance encounter with the WWII veteran over a grisly find in the woods pulls the cover off the dark secrets of their small town, and Kitty is drawn into an unlikely partnership.

Armed with an antique rifle and a handful of homemade silver bullets, the two form an efficient team. Unfortunately, their game is werewolf hunting, and disaster is only a bite away.

With her father in Iraq, Kitty finds herself fighting a very different kind of war in the woods at home.

Kitty is one of the most relatable young adult heroines I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. Her battle to balance friends and family against the new knowledge of werewolves is completely believable. One of the things I like most about Kitty is that she like doesn’t automatically accept things at face value. When Kitty is faced with the idea that werewolves not only exist, but hunt in the woods right behind her house, she takes some initiative and goes out looking for the information she needs to confirm her suspicions and to double check the information Phinney gives her.

As if being a teenage werewolf hunter weren’t enough, Kitty is also trying to hold her family together while her father is in Iraq. With her mother at work all the time, she finds herself completely in charge of the cooking, cleaning, and care of her younger brother, Sam. When her mother is home, Kitty frequently fights with her, which only makes the situation worse. She’s a strong young woman, but she’s not sure if she can shoulder all the responsibilities that have been thrust on her. Kitty knows that her family needs her and that hunting werewolves is the right thing to do, but she still wants to be able to have fun and just be a kid sometimes. I was pulled into Kitty’s internal struggle so deeply, that I felt as if I’d known her for years when I finished reading the story.

Phinney is certainly an interesting character as well. After their chance meeting in the woods, Phinney becomes a mentor and father figure for Kitty. He rarely expresses his emotions, but when he lets his guard down, I was able to glimpse a very warm hearted man who comes to care for Kitty as if she were his daughter. Phinney is a very down to earth, simple man and yet there are still some secrets surrounding him. He refuses to reveal to Kitty the names of the people who help him spot werewolves, and I’m not completely sure why he would hold that information back. I also think there is more to his past experiences with werewolves than he lets on.

I do wish some of the other secondary characters, such as Jenna and Joe, had been a bit more rounded. Kitty and Jenna have supposedly been best friends since they were very young, but I didn’t see much evidence of that as I read. Right from the start Jenna, struck me as a bit of a snob with very little sense of humor. She also has a bad habit of telling Kitty to do things rather than asking if she wants to do them. That’s all I really know about Jenna, and I have serious doubts about the future of their friendship.

Joe has also been friends with Kitty since childhood, but when the book ended, I didn’t really know much about him either. I do know he’s loyal and there for Kitty when she needs him even though she has recently neglected their friendship. It did seem as though Kitty was beginning to have romantic feelings for Joe, and I suspect that Joe might feel the same way. I hope they spend more time together in the next book of the series.

I can’t say much about the ending of the story without spoiling it. However, I will say that it’s tragic and very open ended. I was completely floored when I finished reading, and I had tears streaming down my face. I will absolutely be reading the next book in the series so that I can find out what happens to Kitty next.

Reading Trajectories was certainly an emotional experience. Kitty easily found her way into my heart and I was sad to leave her behind when the tale ended. Anyone looking for a chilling paranormal with a wonderfully developed heroine should definitely give Trajectories a try.

What would you do if you could see your future? Would you accept it or would you change it?

Mariah Davis loves animals, running, and her hunk of a boyfriend, Kevin Creamer. Everything looks bright for her until the day she finds a pair of sunglasses that allow her to see the future.

When she glimpses a disaster looming, she tries to avoid it but fails. She has a car accident that lands her in a wheelchair, smashing her hopes for a running scholarship to the veterinary program at Ohio State University. She pushes Kevin away, thinking he’ll want to end their relationship now that she can’t walk.

Will she ever learn to trust and love again? She could search for an answer in the sunglasses. But she’s afraid what they reveal might destroy her.

Suzanne Lilly’s ‘Shades of the Future’ is a quick trip into the most-happening lives in a small town ever.

Honey Creek seems normal enough, from the diner to the general location, the everyday folks as well as the teens, like Mariah Davis. Mariah’s an ordinary teen, isn’t she? She’s got goals – like running a marathon and getting into college. She’s not superstitious and she’s got some good friends. She’s got a perfectly good boyfriend. They all take part in raising funds for a benefit – all very contemporary. Life is far from boring too, as friend Hayley’s paranoia leads to moments of real suspense.

And then, quite accidentally, Mariah finds a pair of sunglasses.

Suddenly, everything changes. Mariah can see the future. Or, can she? All our doubts fly aside as Mariah’s own doubts increase. We readers feel a thrill of premonition ourselves when we hear Eulalie’s caution:

When you start messing around with fortune telling and seeing the future, sooner or later you might see things you don’t want to know about.

Is the future really ‘like a train coming?” That thought will recur as you read, and …there is just no putting this book down after that. Can Mariah see the future – and more importantly, can she change it? As events unfold, we realize this is not only an adventure for Mariah, but truly a personal journey.  Shades of the Future becomes the classic ‘page-turner’ early on and simply never lets go. It has light moments as well as dark moments. Subtle humor and casual conversation are as well presented as serious, life-altering moments.

Although the suspenseful part of this keeps you riveted, the characters continue to delight along the way. Hayley and Kevin and Granma and even dear old cook Eulalie are a few of a host of wonderful, complex characters. If I had one complaint it was that the author’s preoccupation with food just killed my diet (from the Elvis sandwich to the chocolate beet cake, not to mention the biscuits with gravy for breakfast).

The charming setting of Honey Creek is tangibly real and in some respects, so believable as to be an ‘everyday’ location; a spot where any of us might visit relatives…off the beaten track, but real. Its so charmingly rural you notice scents like honeysuckle drifting in the windows.

The story is unpredictable and surprising, has funny moments and wonderful characters. This is ultimately the coolest YA book I’ve ever read: You don’t have to be a teen to love this book!

Alexander Lorre gives new meaning to the term “tormented teen.” He’s a newly fallen angel, which means he has the self-control of a three-year-old, the hormones of a teenager and the strength of an angel. When he rescues Gaby Moore from drowning, the chemistry between them is undeniable. With a local demon threatening Gaby’s life, he struggles to find a balance between remaining close enough to protect her but distant enough to control his desires.

As danger draws closer, Gaby uncovers shattering secrets that will lead to an ultimate choice. Will she fight alongside her father, an earthbound hunter killing fallen angels and demons, give into the demon blood coursing through her veins and join the demon world, or save the man she loves from both? The first two choices damn her, but the last one could destroy them all.

This story consumed me from the exciting beginning to the very satisfying ending – to the point that I even dreamed about fallen angels and epic battles between good and evil.

Alexander is everything that I typically look for in a hero. He’s arrogant, good looking, and protective to a fault. I immediately knew this story would entertain me when introduced to this character who wants to save everyone. The way he interacts with his not so little sister, Sammy, had me smiling like the Cheshire Cat because it reminded me of so many sibling relationships. When he falls head over heels for Gaby I knew she would have a handful with him.

The plot line of this story is the age-old battle of good versus evil with a twist. You not only have fallen angels, and demons competing but also a hunter looking to destroy them all as well as other creatures, who may not be angels or demons but something entirely different. For someone like me, who enjoys an exciting paranormal element within a story, this book easily kept me captivated. The author also throws in a few other twists that had me on the edge of my seat and engrossed in the action.

The secondary cast of this story are as entertaining as the main characters if not more so at times. Especially Alex’s sister Sammy and one of Forras’s demon flunkies, Boon. Sammy’s bubbly personally is amusing. I couldn’t help but laugh out loud when she turns into the bossy girl who seems to know more than one may think. Sammy could absolutely have her own story that would be just as enjoyable as this one.

This is a story I will gladly recommend to others because I know it will stick with me for a while. I eagerly await the next installment of the Battle of the Souls series.

I couldn’t wait to meet the rest of the Iverson brothers after Grant came to set-up home in Apple Trail. This spin-off series brought not only the rest of the brothers to town, but allowed fans of Apple Trail to meet other new characters already living there. And let me just say that there are some serious characters of the female variety in this story. Gretchen’s friends are absolutely hilarious and I couldn’t help but adore them for their efforts in her love life and the down-to-earth feel they brought to the story. I see lots more laughs and hot guys in store for future installments of the series.

It was extremely easy to fall into the story and keep reading until its end. The characters, the town, and the affair between Lane and Gretchen that starts out simple and grows complicated is all believable and well developed. The sparks between those two really fly and I was eager for them to make it happen, but I enjoyed more how both Lane and Gretchen had to work for it. Their HEA is well earned and deserved. If you’re looking for small town drama with wonderful sexual tension between hard working men and women then you should absolutely check out this author’s Apple Trail stories.

That wouldn’t be so bad, but Tank plans on staying at Shelby’s house, and makes it obvious he’s quite willing to help her heat the sheets, again. Shelby knows that sex with Tank is dangerous, fast, and sometimes a little dirty. Now is not the time to become side-tracked. In Shelby’s line of work, elements of danger, secrecy, and deceit are to be expected. But now, Tank is ready to start-over with Shelby and right the wrongs that broke them up in the first place. He vowed to never lose her again, but this time he may not have a choice.

Fast paced with great emotional quality, this story keeps you on the edge of your seat with lots of plot twists and scorching love scenes. Shelby and Tank’s physical chemistry is off the charts sizzling and undeniable from the moment they touch, but they are also each other’s own personal brand of kryptonite. Shelby loses focus and distracts too easily while Tank loses his temper and becomes much more aggressive where Shelby is concerned. Part of me didn’t like the lack of bodily restraint Shelby had when Tank comes back into town after the big hurts she suffered. It’s clear early on in the story that there is a lot of baggage for them to sort through, which is why the relationship was never easily severed, but a bit more resistance now and then would’ve made it more believable.

I really appreciated that both Shelby and Tank’s perspectives are given and nothing too revealing was allowed until it became necessary as part of the plotline. That being said, there were a few times it was hard to fully connect with the emotional turmoil the characters were going through; however there was a nice hum of suspense from the beginning. With the way the story wrapped up, there is potential for more in the future and I sincerely hope Ms. Edwards decides to write it with the same humor, mystery, and erotic romance that really makes this a fantastic read and re-read.

This was a good book, set in the late 1800’s, and while the idea of mail order spouses is foreign to me, Suzanne Barrett really did a great job of making the story pull me in as a reader. The characters were very real and the story line was full and paced well with the events that were happening. I liked that both main characters, Wade and Corrie, had secrets and instead of pushing them apart it only brought them closer in the end. The added addition of Wade’s daughter was interesting but still believable since no child wants a new parent after losing someone close. I have never read anything by Suzanne Barrett before but after reading this story I will be looking for more of her work. This story was very enjoyable and I was sad to see it end so soon. This book will not disappoint anyone who wants to have a great historical romance read.

Two men, massage oil and a little hanky-fire-panky. What a great combo!

I love a good MM story. One that draws me in and makes me want to know more about the characters. This book’s blurb snagged me. I wanted to know how the author would pull the story together in such a short amount of pages. I have to say it was hot. The interplay between the characters was HAWT. I felt it and wanted to see what would happen after the story.

There were just a couple of things that held me back a bit from really enjoying the story. The pendulum effect connecting gallbladder and sphincter of Oddi is critical for healthy digestion, remains proper flow of the bile and also pancreatic juice, and prevents the rise of pressure in the penile erection that leads to low erection and sexual activity. The case of low erection and EDMen turn out to suffer from such cases when in case such as ED strikes. tadalafil from cipla Men, who engage soft cialis in frequent lovemaking episodes to enjoy intimate moments. What does it need to function fully? Oxygen , buy viagra in usa food, water, warmth, exercise, protection against the elements (shelter) and companionship. There were a few moments where, as much as I felt like I was in the story, there were little chunks where it was more like I was seeing all from the outside. Word choices and point of view changes that jarred me and made me reread to figure out who was feeling what. Other places were telly. I wanted description, sure, but I wanted to be shown the story. I didn’t really get much of Stan’s point of view on things and I wished I had because I’d love to have known what was going through his head.

Still, there’s a lot of heat in this story. Put two men in a massage situation and there are plenty of sparks. Dave’s feelings for Stan are believable and I rooted for them. I liked how he took things to the next level and enticed Stan. I read it over and over simply enjoying the interplay.

If you want a hot story guaranteed to melt the screen, then you need a copy of A Whole Lot of Fire.
