However, one look at Cara, with her expressive green eyes and bunny-of-the-month body, and he’s hell-bent on proving his worth with the shy artist–and himself.

As old truths are revealed, will Cara and Finn overcome the mistakes of the past, trust their hearts at last, and take a chance on love?

Since she was in school, Cara has known exactly what she wanted when she grew up: Michael Finnegan. This is the spicy rendition of her getting to know him in more than his capacity as a football player and it’s just as sweaty as a ball game!

Michael is famous, sexy and talented but more than a little insecure with a failed marriage behind him. This is refreshing in a romance as the man is not completely stable and confident all the time. Cara is the one in these pages who knows what she wants and doesn’t waiver, even if she is a little bad at expressing herself.

However, the reason for Michael’s reluctance to commit, beyond his failed marriage, is unclear. He often seems stone-headedly stubborn and I did wish there was deeper reason for this reluctance to have a relationship extending beyond one-night-stands. I also felt that Cara’s humiliating experience at school which caused her to move away from her home town as soon as she could needed more to the dramatisation in order for the depth of her embarrassment and her resulting reactions to be more realistic.

Despite these small faults, the sex scenes had me sweltering and heady and the chemistry between these two very intelligent characters is steamy as a fogged up car in winter. This is not just a honeymoon romance but a meeting of two like souls who fit each other well mentally and physically, as a real romance should.

True desire always finds a way…

On the night before the final battle against Napoleon, Lady Delphine St. James finds herself dancing with the one man she has always wanted, Major Lord Stephen Ives. He makes it clear he has no time for a lady he sees as flirtatious and silly, but as the call to arms sounds, she bids him farewell with a kiss that stirs them both. When he returns gravely injured, she is intent on caring for him, even if his surly behavior tests her patience.

After the battle, Stephen is not only wounded and blind, but falsely accused of cowardice and theft. The only light in his dark world is Delphine, the one woman he never imagined he could desire. But she deserves more than he can give her.

As their feelings deepen and hidden enemies conspire to force them to part forever, can their love survive the cruelest test of all?

Lady Delphine St. James is beautiful, witty and charming. Her politically active father shamelessly uses her to further his own agenda by encouraging her to flirt and flatter his cronies, to sway them to his way of thinking. Her mother’s only desire is to have her make an advantageous marriage. Delphine has had two seasons, and the flirtatious puppet she has become is second nature to her now. Until one night, she encounters Major Lord Stephen Ives. They are instantly attracted to one another. He cares for her opinions and they have a real conversation. Then Delphine’s mother comes to take her away, telling her she must go and charm a duke. When Stephen sees her playing her flirtatious game, he’s convinced that he was wrong about her, and that she really is shallow. Thereafter, he avoids her when he can, and otherwise is just remotely polite. Delphine was truly affected by their meeting, and it made her take a look at herself and her life. Although she lost Stephen’s regard, she’s determined now to do better things.

A year later, Delphine is in Brussels with her sister and brother-in-law, ready to come to the aid of wounded soldiers, if need be. She encounters Stephen, who is just about to leave for battle. She sends him off with a flower and a kiss. Stephen is seriously wounded and is sent to recover with their mutual friend Nicholas Temberlay and his wife. Determined to take care of him, Delphine manages to arrange it so she is at the household at the same time. We soon find out that Stephen has been blinded, and that he has an enemy who is setting him up to be branded a thief and a coward.

Someone being falsely accused is something that always pushes my buttons. We know who the villain is right from the get go, so there’s not a mystery. But he weaves a clever plan, and at times it doesn’t look like there’s any hope. It’s particularly nasty because of the awful shape our poor hero is in. Stephen is strong, though, and begins to recover. This part of the story deals with Delphine caring for him, and their becoming very close. I like both these characters, even with their flaws. I found Delphine to be compassionate and kind underneath her social mask. But I was disappointed that as soon as she returned home, she fell right back into the same pattern. Stephen, while an admirable man, waffled a lot when it came to Delphine. He wanted her, then he pushed her away.

This is my first book by Lecia Cornwall, and I like her writing style very much. I felt the sense of urgency in the story that the villain may never be found out. I also felt the dread that our couple was never going to manage to be together. The way everything was resolved was very satisfactory, and I found myself breathing a big sigh of relief. I recommend this book for all lovers of historical romance, and I know I’ll be looking for more from this author.

Detective Jordan Delany has a gift. Through her dreams, she connects with dead victims of violent crimes. Her isolated life as a drug cop is perfect for hiding the freakish visions, until her newest investigation has her posing as a cocktail waitress in a down-and-dirty strip club. When she’s saved from a drunken customer by a handsome stranger, the heated chemistry is exactly why she intends to keep Mr. Arrogant at bay. But learning he’s the new bouncer for the corrupt club she intends to bust just might be the one reason why she can’t.

Determined to get answers, he plays the part of a fallen cop and lands the job of head bouncer. What he discovers is that the club owner isn’t the only deadly obstacle he’s facing. His attraction to an intriguing cocktail waitress with a penchant for danger just might kill him first.

Dream Huntress is a suspenseful read that you won’t want to put down.  The biggest reason for that are the very convincing main characters and the chemistry between them. Jordan is written as a feisty, ingenious and independent woman whose dangerous job keeps her busy enough to distract her from her demons. I liked how she feared no one and gave back as good as she got.

Similarly, Tyler is a man who is sure of himself and his male charms but in a fun, down-to-earth way that doesn’t make him seem arrogant. The quick-paced romance between Jordan and Ty made for an enticing, fast read. Jordan’s struggling with her emotions and the need to keep Ty at a distance was completely believable, although perhaps mentioned a few times too many. Bahan, Jordan’s boss, was another intriguing character, well-portrayed and interesting.

The romance part of the novel was far more interesting than the plot with the police chasing the drug dealers. That was too simple since practically nothing happened in that regard until the very end. When Jordan had a vision of the final conflict, she was convinced the other cop in the diner was corrupt even though there was no proof – he might have pointed his gun at Ty because he didn’t know Ty was an undercover cop and he was waving his gun around in a diner. Also, Ty and Jordan kissed way too many times at the Buck’s bar parking lot and it seemed highly unlikely that no one noticed them.

Despite the fairly simple undercover investigation plotline, the novel is compelling because of the relationship between Ty and Jordan. Their relationship repeatedly made them deliriously happy on one page and brokenhearted on the next, and it was complex enough to enthrall me.

The undercover stint is a great background to the hot romance between two cops who can’t fight the attraction between them despite the dangers a relationship entails.

Guy is thrust into an unexpected and unwanted voyage of self-discovery as he is solely enjoined to bring the three together one last time.

Many things are dulled by the passage of time. Love isn’t one of them.

The character development in this tale was strong, especially when it came to Guy’s personality and backstory. He has a complicated and sometimes contradictory set of motives that made me wish there will one day be at least one sequel dedicated to his personal evolution. Guy felt so real to me that I scrolled back up to the beginning to make sure this was a work of fiction. It was just that hard to believe that he wasn’t based on an actual human being.

The cast of characters is a little larger than I would have expected for something length. Had it been a little longer I don’t think I would have ever noticed this, but so many important people are introduced in the first chapter or two that I had a little trouble remembering who was who at first. This is a minor criticism, though, and as soon as I sorted everyone out I was quickly lured back into the enthralling plot.

Mr. McCoy wrote such detailed descriptions that I felt as though I was experiencing everything alongside the characters. From a sun-baked alien world to a retired transport ship, every single scene was so compelling that I ended up reading this story in one sitting. This was my first introduction to his work. Based on how impressed I was by his writing ability, I’m eagerly anticipating his next project.

The Travelers is an excellent choice for anyone who loves time travel in their science fiction. Be prepared to read it more than once though. I know I will!

So when her brother, Kael, unknowingly sends her to live at a cousin’s secret brothel, she escapes to court where she meets the arrogant Highlander, Saer MacLeod…

Saer is considered savage even by most Highlanders. It will take an extraordinary woman to handle him, and Nareen enchants him like no one he’s met before. When a furious Kael threatens revenge against the cousin who wronged his sister, Saer knows its his one chance to win over Nareen and reclaim the respect his family deserves…and he’s going to take it.

This was my first time experiencing a highlander story, and it was well worth it. Nareen and Saer definitely have a story that entertains between Nareen’s reluctance to marry any man, Saer’s duty to re-build his lands, and the enemies whom seem to be adding up. This story never had a dull moment.

One thing that struck me from the very beginning was that Nareen was definitely not your quiet, demure woman. She was spitfire who challenged anyone who she felt infringed on her freedom. She knew who she was, and that she did not fit into the ideal female of the time, but that did not stop her from being who she was no matter what, even if it meant being alone the rest of her life. This also made her stubborn at times, and blind to what was so obvious to me, that Saer would never want to change the part of her he loved most: her spirit. I found Nareen to be the ideal heroine because she can take care of herself if need be. She will be with a man because she wants him, not because she needs him.

Saer is the right man to not restrict Nareen.  Instead, he helps her realize that he wants her for who she is no matter the cost. He understands her reservations since he has his own dicey childhood, which only shows him that they are kindred hearts. I like that Saer was firm when needed with Nareen, but also knew when to back off or be sweet and gentle with her. It was clear to me he was a keeper and a man any wife would treasure. Plus his savage side was necessary in keeping his people safe, yet never consumed him or made him cruel.

The multiple plotlines in the story really keep me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.  Whether it was the bratty mistress Abigail, or the fight for respect among their people, Nareen and Saer never seemed to have it easy, which really helped to push the story line, and their relationship, right along. While this may have been my first highlander story it definitely makes me want to pick up others and see if they are just as entertaining and all consuming as this one.

Investigator Tristan Bonnaud has one aim in life— to make sure that his half-brother George can’t ever ruin his life again. So when the pesky Lady Zoe Keane, the daughter of the Earl of Olivier, shows up demanding that the Duke’s Men find a mysterious gypsy woman, he seizes the opportunity to also hunt for a gypsy friend who knows secrets about George. Tristan doesn’t expect to uncover Lady Zoe’s family secrets, as well… or end up falling for the woman who will risk all to discover the truth

How the Scoundrel Seduces is a wickedly tangled weave that delighted all my senses. As the story unfolded, I was shocked as to the extent of the poison the villain wielded and I became quite bloodthirsty in wanting his comeuppance. Ms. Jeffries has a devious mind because I had to wait and watch the drama and suspense affect Zoe and Tristan throughout the tale and I couldn’t put the book down.

This novel is a standalone read but I do encourage readers to read the previous two books in the Duke’s Men series, What the Duke Desires and When the Rogue Returns, because the deeds of the villain’s treachery tainted all of them. When the ultimate confrontation occurs in How the Scoundrel Seduces, it’s made that much more powerful by my having read the previous two. In fact, it turns out that there was an unknown victim and tragedy that was perpetrated and it broke my heart.

There is a secret that the blurb mentions about Zoe. What astounded me was the connection it forged with the first book in the series. Even though the Ms. Jeffries does include enough back story for a new reader to understand and follow the current plot, readers and fans of the series will find it especially intriguing because it means the author had to step back and create this whole world while keeping the underlying thread and its effects woven throughout. I’m impressed because she succeeded wonderfully.

I enjoyed Mr. Keane. His character kept me guessing because I didn’t know if he was a good guy or a meanie. He was sharp and I kept thinking he’d be a great asset to the Duke’s Men and then I would question his motives and start worrying for Zoe all over again. Jeremy Keane was a wonderful foil that kept me guessing.

The romance between Tristan and Zoe was full of spark, sauce, sensual seduction and fun. It was a delight to watch their love grow. Of course, one of them was a bit clueless what being in love was all about. It was sweet to see how it all resolved.

Secondary characters were important and made this book feel like I was living in a second world. It helps that the previous heroes and heroines from the first two books pop in to help out. In fact, there are these constant digs directed at Dom about someone named Jane that turns the man into a prune. If the author’s intent is to wiggle a juicy bookworm in front of me, rest assured, I’ve taken the bait. It sounds like a story that needs to be told – if only because Dom is the last bachelor standing. We can’t have that now, can we? *grin*

The happy ever after was wrapped up with surprising poignancy. I never expected it to take the turn it did and because of it, it elevated this story from a good read to a really good read. As hard as the act of forgiving is, the benefits are definitely felt by both the characters and me. It was rather emotional.

How the Scoundrel Seduces captures a reader’s imagination and takes them on a journey of discovery, intrigue and romance. It’s a well written story that is sure to entertain if only because Tristen and Zoe are wonderful together. To historical romance fans and readers of Ms. Jeffries’ books, I definitely recommend reading this, her latest novel. She has another winner.

The Dowager Countess of Morley asks Vincent Tremayne, Lord Vampire of Cornwall, to become guardian of her American granddaughter. Vincent honors the agreement and plans to get his new ward married and off his hands as soon as possible.

When Lydia Price arrives, she soon turns Vincent’s gloomy castle upside-down, and he decides he wants Lydia for himself. But if Vincent can’t protect Lydia from her entanglement with scandalous portrait painter Sir Thomas Lawrence, the vampire community will make sure that he—and Lydia—face dire consequences.

The author outdid herself when she wrote that first chapter. Talk about setting up a heart wrenching reason to like the heroine, Lydia, and have a reader invested in her happiness so early on in a book! It’s like I could feel her rejection and sadness and then, her determination to survive, succeed and thrive. It takes a strong female character to weather the emotional onslaught of rejection and Ms. Ann certainly accomplished it. Lydia was a terrific heroine.

Vincent, the hero is in a pickle. He is honor bound to repay an old pact or oath that was made many years before. It was a clever way to get Lydia and Vincent together in a very proper manner. What happens next is anything but proper. It’s delightful, intriguing and full of surprises.

The author did have some of the characters that I met in Bite Me, Your Grace populate this current novel but they were only there to help prod the hero and sometimes poke fun at him, and in that, they were very helpful and endearing, especially Angelica. Rest assured however, that this is a wonderful standalone story. The few details that would be helpful to know from the previous book are revealed in the natural course of telling this tale while introducing Lydia to its world’s intricacies, when Vincent has no choice but to tell her. The drama and suspense that leads up to that moment was great writing. On the other hand, I don’t know if anyone would truly be that unaware of their surroundings and I can’t figure out why someone out of nowhere would do such a thing. It almost seemed orchestrated to me but that’s not where the author took it. I guess the level of intrigue that she did provide was enough. Of course, what came afterwards is definitely worth reading.

Dialogue is important in this tale more so because it’s done so well that there was no need for the author to resort to ‘telling’. She showed me with every description, cheeky comment and suspenseful twist of the plot while using the interactions between characters to lead a reader where she wanted them to go. I enjoyed it.

Even more enjoyable was when Vincent and Lydia came together in carnal passion. Here, description and dialogue produced excellent results and I was a bit hot under the collar after reading those scenes. Talk about sexy!

There is an undercurrent which is produced by two sisters. They were loose cannons and I could not guess which way things were going to go. I liked how the author dealt with them. It was sweet but not too sweet. They are after all, vampires.

The happily ever after encompasses not just Lydia and Vincent and for that I commend the author. It’s like she cares for each and every one of her characters. If they are bad, then they get their comeuppance, and if they are redeemable, they have a chance at redemption, and if there is a transition to be made, Ms. Ann tries to put a brave face on it and make it as painless as possible. And when someone deserves happiness, like Lydia and Vincent, then they get one, but one as unique and fascinating as they are.

Of course, this wouldn’t be a book in a series without dangling a carrot for the next story to come. There were hints dropped all through One Bite Per Night but I wasn’t sure who he was going to be paired with until the epilogue clinched it. I can’t wait to see how in the world that is going to work out. I already see some major bumps and that makes for the best reading. How fun.

One Bite Per Night is a ton of fun. I dare say this novel is even better than the last one. I really enjoyed Bite Me, Your Grace, but Vincent and Lydia’s story was a bit more fun and a lot more sexy. Plus, the reason for the heroine to be with the hero in the first place was unique and endearing. The fact that Vincent simply could not resist Lydia no matter how hard he tried entertained me no end. I love to see a powerful vampire tied up in knots. I think paranormal romance readers will enjoy this book. And if a reader enjoyed the previous novel in the series, then One Bite Per Night is a sure winner. This gets a solid recommend from me.

They say opposites attract, but will the the initial burst of lust and intrigue be enough to keep Gus and Sally interested in each other in the longterm?

The chemistry between Gus and Sally is intense. They have such contradictory personalities that at first I was slightly skeptical about the possibility of them becoming anything other than friends, but Ms. Glad allows both characters ample time to get to know one another. It was even more interesting to see how the science fiction elements of the plot were woven into the scenes that showcase Sally and Gus’ many differences.

I had a hard time determining exactly when this story was supposed to be set. Whiterock is a charming community that seems to exist in a world whose technology, fashions, and social norms are 20 or 30 years behind what’s happening in the urban environment where Gus lives. It was never quite clear to me if this was a hint about the strange things that sometimes happen in Whiterock or if this tale was set a few decades further into the past than I originally assumed.

Ms. Glad has a smooth writing style that kept me glued to the page way past my bedtime. She has a unique way of sketching out a setting or character by focusing on details that I wouldn’t normally think of when describing them to other people: the sometimes lumpy texture of homemade mashed potatoes or the funny ways people move when their shoes and clothing are soaking wet. This was my first introduction to her work. If it’s any indication of her talent, I can’t wait to hunt down the rest of her books!

Improbable Solution is a seamless blend of science fiction and romance that I’d recommend equally to fans of either genre.

Ms Cooper writes with a fluidity that kept me in my seat. I felt like I was there in the thick of things with Rafe and Harper. I was engaged the whole time and didn’t want this book to end.

Speaking of Rafe and Harper, these are two complicated characters. Harper doesn’t believe a man can stick around in a relationship. Most women, me included, can identify with her struggle to trust. She’s also in love with the high of action–she wants to be in the thick of things. That was great. I love strong female characters.

Rafe is another complication, but he’s oh-so-handsome. I’d get complicated with him. He’s torn. Harper reminds him of someone from his past, but if he gets involved with her, will he be able to keep the two separate? He’s got one heck of a conundrum. I liked how he had to work through his feelings. I loved how he and Harper worked together. The sparks are definitely evident.

Then suddenly, she is swept off her feet by Prince Dominick, soldier of fortune, black sheep of his family…and the man hired to protect her. He’s brazen enough to steal her kisses, yet tender enough to soothe her with one touch. He makes no promises, speaks no vows of forever…yet Laurentia can’t help but hope that her prince has finally arrived.

Talk about second chances. Someday My Prince succeeds in doing the impossible.

If a reader has already tackled The Runaway Princess they’ll have an idea by now as to why I mentioned ‘impossible’. Dom wasn’t exactly a nice guy in the previous book. He was a villainous character but what he really was and is, is an anti-hero. I saw hints of personality quirks that hinted at something that could be redeemed. In Someday My Prince Ms. Dodd took those little flickers of goodness and used some rather impressive bellows to fan the flames of decency, creating a hero worth checking out in this novel.

It’s hard to banish the past, either from a reader’s mind or even from Dom’s own point of view. Yet Ms. Dodd presented enough proof for me to believe the hero could be a better man, a happier man, with the right incentive. That incentive comes in the form of Princess Laurentia. She’s got teeth, an attitude and a lot of secrets. She alternates from being feisty, temperamental, innocent, brave, conniving, trusting and adventurous. Basically, she’s the kind of woman who wouldn’t bore a man like Dom but keep him on his toes and wouldn’t let him run roughshod over her. He tries because after all he’s a mercenary, and like he tells everyone, a bastard. Acts like it at times too. I appreciated the fact that he didn’t completely act like a total loser – he has in inner code of honor- rusted to be sure but it’s there. The odd thing is his tenacity and his ability to rationalize errant behavior with honor. I’m not sure if I would buy that story if it were me instead of Laurentia. I’m almost sure I would have used the gun in a different manner. The heroine is made of sterner backbone than me.

The plot was interesting and I liked seeing two kingdoms duking it out. I figured out who the traitor might be only because of the extreme stiffness of the character. It was like watching a prune with legs. As for the top villain, a reader is told he’s bad and there are brief glimpses that lend credence to the claim but nothing that made me gasp or shiver or worry. Dom is such a wounded bear anyway so I knew he was going to trounce someone at some point. As for resolving the overall conflict, it was a bit too simple for any reader who thrives on details and suspense to appreciate. The story used the background conflict to further the romance between Dom and Laurentia and caused bumps, trials and tribulations for them to navigate so readers could see their relationship grow. It was entertaining but nothing spectacular.

The happy ever after was satisfactory. The true heroes and heroines of the kingdom were recognized and it was nice to see. Laurentia and Dom’s finally coming together isn’t sweet, sappy or boring. It’s fraught with emotional passion right up until the end, which is on par for those two. I believe they will be happy and Dom will finally know peace and acceptance. After reading the book, it’s a beautiful hope and I felt good about that.

Someday My Prince is a nice sequel and it tied up all its loose ends completely. I think the heroine was the right type of woman for the hero and their relationship sure wasn’t dull. This novel entertained me and I felt it worth my time. It’s not quite as frenetic as the previous book but it’s meaty just the same. I think it has much to offer readers, especially those who like to see bad boys finding their redemption. Dom isn’t cured of being bad, but now he’s bad for all the right reasons. That’s good enough for me.
