From the moment he enters her successful café, Professor Porter Briggs is smitten by the essence of owner Audra Talton . Focused on her work, Audra unknowingly ignores him. Porter craves her affections with relentless desire, and in his dreams, leaves his body to steal her soul away.

Plagued with vivid dreams she cannot explain, Audra willingly gives herself over to the passionate encounters in the ethereal arms of a hauntingly familiar man.

There are some unusual ways to find love, and Audra’s encounter with Porter proves this. In a descriptive tale about a woman not searching for, but finding romance, readers will be entertained while brought along an interesting adventure.

Audra owns a café. She’s a busy woman who’s not concerned with furthering her love life; though her employees nag her about it. Her motivations are established, and this is good, even in stories as short as this one. The reader gets to know her a little.

A man with a sexy voice keeps calling her on the phone, and she keeps ignoring him, annoyed. It’s weird but surprisingly intriguing. Suspense and interest are created when she agrees to meet him finally. She waits in her café all day for him to come. When will he arrive, and what will happen during this face-to-face encounter?

Cool supernatural things happen. It seems time travel is one of them, but this is implied and not verified or explained. Many of the products available are, however, of such a low quality that weight loss with changes in lifestyle improved ED in obese men. tadalafil soft It acts as a nerve cialis rx tonic to improve endurance and help to ejaculate at your will. Because Kamagra viagra online in canada cares, they deliver what we promise. However, some men may require cialis line medicines that can help improve your erectile function.

Audra experiences some steamy situations with a supernatural lover. Is he the guy on the phone with the sexy voice?

She finally meets that guy. Of course he’s handsome and charming. He has a beautiful car from the 1930s. They go to dinner in a vintage restaurant. There’s an old man in the story too, and it seems he’s connected somehow with the young, sexy man Audra meets. One can start to formulate interesting things…time travel, the old car, the vintage restaurant…Sadly, these connections are never truly addressed. They could have made a really cool situation come to light.

At the end, Audra’s attitude shifts a bit too suddenly, and so does Porter’s. He goes from, “I don’t even know you” to “Love of my life” in a flash and I was left with unanswered questions.

I enjoyed this story and saw a enormous potential in it. If it were lengthened and unanswered questions explored, it could have been really something. Still, it’s an enjoyable read.

Spindle Cove is the destination of choice for certain types of well-bred young ladies: the painfully shy, young wives disenchanted with matrimony, and young girls too enchanted with the wrong men. It is a haven for those who live there.

Victor Bramwell, the new Earl of Rycliff, knows he doesn’t belong here. So far as he can tell, there’s nothing in this place but spinsters…and sheep. But he has no choice, he has orders to gather a militia. It’s a simple mission, made complicated by the spirited, exquisite Susanna Finch—a woman who is determined to save her personal utopia from the invasion of Bram’s makeshift army.

Susanna has no use for aggravating men; Bram has sworn off interfering women. The scene is set for an epic battle…but who can be named the winner when both have so much to lose?

Sparkling with humor and sizzling with sex, A Night To Surrender pulsates with the wants and needs of females and males—needs not the same and on a collision course. A hodgepodge of men assembled to form a militia in a quiet seaside village wreck havoc on Spindle Cove that has a motto of “Tranquility is the soul of our community” and where young, gently-bred ladies come to get themselves sorted out.

When black powder explosions, a sheep “stampede”, and wagons loaded with army supplies show up along with Lieutenant Colonel Victor Bramwell, his wastrel cousin Colin, and Thorne, Susanna Finch rallies all her considerable abilities to keep the ladies’ retreat intact and on schedule. The village depends on the money the ladies bring into Spindle Cove.

The Queen’s Ruby Inn is a temporary home for the ladies, whether sickly, scandalous, shy, disenchanted with marriage, too enchanted with the wrong men, or just misfits in the rules-ridden society of early nineteenth century England. Twenty-five-year-old Susanna, the daughter of the only gentleman in area, nurtures the ladies and helps them to realize their self-worth and take pride in their accomplishments. Her organizational skills, healer abilities, business sense, and abundance of energy are instrumental in keeping the village economically healthy and aesthetically pleasing. Her inner hurts, needs, and woes stay locked away until Bramwell invades her territory. Theirs is a romance not to be missed.

Lt. Col. Victor Bramwell, seriously wounded in battle eight months ago, is healing and wants his command back. But his superiors ignore his requests. His last hope is his father’s old friend Sir Lewis Finch, an eccentric inventor of weaponry who is a Royal Advisor to the Prince Regent who could get Bramwell back to his command.

Sir Lewis has his own agenda and gets Bramwell elevated, not back to his command, but gets him a title. By royal decree Bramwell is now an Earl—Lord Rycliff—and owner of a dilapidated castle high on a ridge overlooking the village in one direction and overlooking the channel on the other side where the northern coast of France is only fifty miles away. He is supposed to raise a militia of twenty-four men to defend this area of the coast—NOT Bramwell’s ‘cup-of-tea’.

Colin, Bramwell’s ne’er-do-well cousin, is horrified. A pretty village with no taverns and overrun with unbiddable, educated, man-eater ladies is just too much. While his irresponsible mischief propels the plot along at top speed, it often brings about distressing outcomes, but sometimes there is humor that tickles the funny bone.

The secondary characters are a diverse lot that add a wealth of emotions to the conflicts. The lamb named “Dinner” is not to be overlooked. He does his part to make this a delightful story.

Tessa Dare enchants with her skillful use of humor and her breathtaking love scenes. The awakening of Susanna’s passion and Bramwell’s deep-seated needs is beautifully revealed by Ms. Dare. She does a super job of showing how love reaches beyond weaknesses and flaws to bring out the best of people. She blends differences like Bramwell saying, “You’re mine” and Susanna saying, “I claim sole possession of my body, my heart, and my soul. And, tonight I choose to share them all with you”, in unique fashion. She melds these attitudes together to create a strong, delicious mixture that proves to be just what is needed for a happy-ever-after.

Entrepreneur Zack McLaren seems to have it all, but the girl he can’t stop thinking about won’t give him a second glance. Why can’t she pay him the kind of attention she lavishes on Elmo, his time-share dog?

Having moved to an exclusive flat in North London, Ellie becomes friendly with neighbour Roo who’s harbouring a secret of her own. Between them, can both girls sort out their lives? Guilt is a powerful emotion.

But a lot can happen in a year in Primrose Hill…

Like a late afternoon rain at the end of a hot summer day, Jill Mansell’s To the Moon and Back lifts the spirit, brings a smile, assails the senses, and reaffirms that love is the greatest of all healers. Like a fresh poured glass of champagne, the story sparkles and bubbles and makes one glad to be sharing a vicarious experience with the lifelike characters.

Even with the heartbreak of death and love deferred, the story has an undercurrent of hope, humor, and a zest for life that sweeps the reader into Ellie Kendall’s world as she deals with life after the death of Jamie, her much-loved husband.

Ellie’s coping mechanism is conjuring up Jamie so they can talk. Even their talks have a special humor that they shared when he was alive. After fifteen months of emotional isolation, Ellie begins the slow process of having meaningful interactions with people again and the reader gets to share this new awakening of the vibrant, intelligent, and caring Ellie.

The many characters that roam the pages of To the Moon and Back help Ellie to find true self-awareness and they enrich her life with fun, purpose, friendship, and love. Tony, Jamie’s father the Hollywood actor who seems the quintessential upper-class Englishman, stays close to Ellie and helps her as much as she will allow. They always look at her with pity. Even though they mean well, Ellie is not comfortable around them, she needs a new start.

In a new upscale neighborhood that Tony talked her into moving to, she meets the funky dressing Roo Taylor who proves to be a good friend even though she is impulsive, wild, and has a bad track record with men. Her type of logic brings fun and action to events as the story zips along. Her idea of doing good-works for her redemption is hilarious.

Zack McLaren, Ellie’s new boss, opens up a whole new world for Ellie. The sexual tension and determination to not renege on their original agreement makes for delightful reading.

The many sub-plots keep the story bubbling with conflicts, heartaches, fun, and emotional rollercoaster rides. Not to be missed are the connection with Tony and the artist Martha, the love/hate relationship of Roo and Todd, the Joe and Kaye Kelligan’s story. Of course, Elmo, the time-share dog does his share to enchant.

Jill Mansell makes the story live and breathe with metaphors like “Fear coagulated like cement in her chest”, “like two balloons inviting a hedgehog along on a night out”, “like a toddler’s out-of-control tantrum”. Her imagery engages the senses and pulls one into the action and her humor makes it all sparkle while her foreshadowing keeps one turning pages to see if what happens is what the hints suggest.

Ms. Mansell is a master storyteller who creates characters with unique personalities that captivate the reader’s imagination and heart. She tells a story that totally engages the emotions while it makes its way to a happy-ever-after. GOOD READING!

After watching each of her coven sisters happily marry, Sorcha Ferguson is determined to capture a Lycan husband of her very own. When she encounters Alec, she decides to save her old friend from what he’s become, all while searching for her own happily-ever-after.

If I was a puppy, I’d be wagging my tail hard enough to knock someone down. I am excited to share the news that the youngest member of the Coig not only gets her man but the ending was simply delightful and so adorable, if it had cheeks, I’d pinch them.

Sorcha is the cute one. I’m not talking about in looks, though the hero is certainly smitten with them. I’m referring to her sunny personality. I have to give credit to Ms. Dare for her consistency. For me, that’s a major point because I’ve read many books where a reoccurring secondary character totally changes in personality, or dialogue or actions from what a reader was expecting as soon as they become the main focus. I do understand that the difference in perspective will alter the voice of the story somewhat, but I’ve been let down before – to the point where I wondered who I was reading about because certainly it’s not the same person. Ms. Dare had Sorcha be her regular, endearing and chipper self. Her innocent charm is intact and her enthusiasm for all things wolfie made me giggle numerous times. Being upbeat and an eternal optimist doesn’t mean Sorcha is a ditz, or daft or weak. She has a temper, she has courage and she has determination. She’s also intuitive at times which takes her fellow characters by surprise at interesting points in the tale.

The most entertaining element of Never Been Bit is the romance. Sorcha and Alec have known each other all their lives. They see with eyes of the past and their roles in it. But a lot has changed over the years. Both Sorcha and Alec have experienced things that made them grow up, be aware of the wider world and take a stand on certain issues, all while setting goals for their lives. The one thing they both wanted and thought unattainable ended up being found in the depths of their own hearts – in each other.

That whole process of cluelessness, awakening and then pursuit was alternately heartbreaking, hopeful and many times hilarious. Okay, a lot of it was hysterical. I had the best time reading this book because they truly were great together. I loved their dialogue with each other, the plots and plans and the things that went awry. I enjoyed watching their feelings stir and their passions flare. And I got the greatest kick out of Caitlin, one of the heroine’s best friends, and her machinations to interfere but not actually interfering. It was a delicate dance of friendship that drove Sorcha nuts. She knew that Caitlin knew something but couldn’t get a hint out of her. But you know what they say, actions speak louder than words and I’m not saying a peep more.

Unlike the previous books in the series, the main conflict and the only one that mattered was getting Sorcha and Alec together. They were their own worst enemies. The culmination was like a family reunion. Hurts were soothed, friendships were strengthened and/or renewed and a most wonderful and heartwarming happily ever after unfolded to my immense delight. There were even some unexpected surprises that tickled my fancy that made the book so much richer and well rounded. The editing was perfect, the dialogue thoroughly entertaining and the characters, both main and secondary, are great together, giving the tale a robust and natural feel to it.

Never Been Bit is saucy and dazzling with a sweet romance full of fun culminating in a sigh-worthy happily ever after. I can’t think of a better book to recommend to my friends because it’s so full of love and laughter. Of all the stories about the women of the Ciog, Sorcha’s romance is the one I liked best. I was so thrilled with Alec’s redemption and awakening. I enjoyed the heroine’s adorable quirks and her charming schemes. I think the hero and heroine make a wonderful couple and I believe the happy ever after to be a strong and solid one. My satisfaction is due to the talents of the author. Ms. Dare has written another winner and I couldn’t be happier. Readers of paranormal romance or romance in general are in for a treat because it’s just that good.

Forbidden relationships are the most tempting. And the most dangerous.
It was a crime of passion–or so the police say. Valerie Solara has been charged with poisoning her best friend. The prosecution claims she’s always been secretly attracted to Amanda’s husband…and with Amanda gone, she planned to make her move.

Attorney Izzy McNeil left the legal world a year ago, but a friend’s request pulls her into the murder trial. Izzy knows how passion can turn your life upside down. She thought she had it once with her ex–fiance, Sam. Now she wonders if that’s all she has in common with her criminally gorgeous, younger boyfriend, Theo.

It’s Izzy’s job to present the facts that will exonerate her client–whether or not she’s innocent. But when she suspects Valerie is hiding something, she begins investigating–and uncovers a web of secret passions and dark motives, where seemingly innocent relationships can prove poisonous…

A mixture of a trial in criminal court and the trials in Izzy O’Neil’s personal life creates a feeling of “Is anyone really innocent?”.

Izzy, a lawyer once again working, finds criminal court different from civil court where she had worked before. Like her personal life, her professional life has taken a new road. She likes the change and the challenge, yet, she is reluctant to turn loose the past connections. As the reader travels the bumpy, uncertain, and often unsettling road with Izzy, expecting the unexpected becomes the norm.

A bevy of characters play important roles. Some are red herrings but they help add a touch of mystery to the plot, while others range from not-very-nice to the super yummy Theo.

The reticent Valerie Solara, accused of murdering her best friend Amanda Miller, is a mystery woman doing little to help her own defense. But if the boy becomes impotent, all the bondage and dream of the both breaks like a house viagra samples for sale of cards. Izzy, with her need-to-know attitude, soon uncovers subplots galore that keep the reader hopping from Amanda’s husband Zavy’s unknown past to Valerie’s daughter Layla’s secret life, to Amanda’s twelve and nine year old girls, and even to the back story of Valerie. Then there is the nanny Sylvia Zowinski, with a rap sheet, and the disgruntled neighbor Dr. St. John who had yelling matches with Amanda. My goodness, they do keep the reader guessing. Izzy’s searching for something to create reasonable doubt stirred up a hornets’ nest.

Martin and Maggie Bristol, criminal defense lawyer who asked Izzy to work with them have stories of their own, but nothing like the “life and times” of Izzy. She has a sexy, smart boyfriend Theo, ten years her junior, who revs up the heartbeat on a regular bases, while the reentrance of her old lover Sam creates conflicts that keep Izzy off-kilter much of the time. She sometimes wonders if she really knows either one of the men. Her ever-changing world is forcing her to do some tough growing up.

The humor seen in Izzy’s friend Lucy’s venture into the world of younger men dates is fun and enlightening, while the patience and love seen in the once renegade private investigator Mayburn is an affirmation of true love.

Izzy’s mother, step-father and her father (long-believed dead) create a unique subplot and add to the theme that life is ever-changing.

Laura Caldwell weaves together a kaleidoscope of a tale that shows that many areas of life must be dealt with as profession and personal needs overlap and intermingle. Her chapters associated with killing confused and distracted from the otherwise fast-paced story. However, they faded in the background as the many characters propelled events along to a somewhat unusual, but satisfying happy-ever-after—not just for Izzy but for many others also.

A Claim of Innocence captivates—good entertainment!

After a series of murders is discovered along the trail of the Shifter Underground, wolf soldier Jensen Tate is assigned to find and protect a missing stray. But Lia Crawford doesn’t seem to want his protection. When she eludes his watch and returns with mysterious injuries, Tate knows she’s hiding something. To discover her secrets, Tate will have to win her trust…and get closer to the woman he thinks may be his mate.

Lia has reasons to keep her distance. The killer is haunting her steps, determined to claim her. He will come after them both if he sees how drawn she is to Tate, though it becomes increasingly difficult to deny her attraction to him. Protecting Tate is vital—but will her deception cost her his love?

I’ll admit it, I was all but frothing at the mouth to read this book. I loved the first book in this series (Tempting the Enemy) with a passion I usually reserve for 85% dark chocolate, so leaped upon the opportunity to review this one the moment it was presented.

That’s a lot of pressure for any book to live up to. Thankfully, Deceiving the Protector was a really good book. I’m pretty sure I’d be happy to read Ms. Tenorio’s shopping list. Her writing is strong and descriptive and she is one of the most talented authors I’ve had the privilege to read. Her world-building skill is incredible, especially how she meshes the world we know with the world she creates and has me looking over my shoulder for the beings she says exist here.

There’s a murderer on the loose. And not just any murderer… nope. He’s killing “strays” and other shifters in a truly bloody and graphic manner. There appears to be pleasure in the killing, as well as an implied warning to other shifters: No one is safe.

Tate is sent by the Sibile to protect one particular stray, Lia, who has a treasure. That’s pretty much all he knows as he heads out to guide her to safety. Problem is, Lia wants nothing to do with him. At first, we can’t understand why. Tate is quiet, calm, safe. He oozes trustworthiness. And still, she either ignores him or snaps at him, and looks for any chance to get away.

Soon we discover why …. she has a secret that could endanger not only Tate, but the entire shifter society and the only way she believes she can protect them is to make them all just GO AWAY.

Deceiving the Protector had me constantly nervous. The villain would show up when we least expected it, leaping from the shadows, lurking around corners, the monster under the bed. Despite the slower pace of the time Lia and Tate spend together as they get to know each other and eventually fall in love, there’s always an edge of fear and worry. In a way, that dichotomy is what gave the book its strength.

Tate is every woman’s dream hero: smart, handsome, sweet, thoughtful, strong and fearless. It’s no wonder that Lia finds herself slowly giving into him. Who wouldn’t fall in love with such a man? I know I did! And Lia is a good partner for Tate, despite our worries at the beginning.

Deceiving the Protector has what it takes to make readers sit up and take notice. It has that special something that grabs hold and doesn’t let go until the last page. Readers are in for a treat that will have them thinking about it long after the last page is read. It’s so worth the time to read, and I’m looking forward to the next book. I’ll be first in line to grab a copy.

After ten years shouldering heavy responsibility as her siblings’ guardian, fern farmer Annie Brenton yearns for an exciting and carefree future. Despite the repeated threats of a stalker, she refuses to cower in her house and compromise her long-awaited freedom.

When widower Luke Erickson and his two young children turn to Annie for help and she takes them into her home, she believes her financial worries and stalker problems are solved. Instead, the stalker ratchets up his violence, and her developing feelings for Luke turn her world upside down.

As Luke’s past suddenly catches up to them, Annie is forced to make an impossible choice. Is loving a wandering sailor and his children worth the sacrifice of her freedom and the risk of a broken heart?

What do you get if you take a mystery stalker, a hot man, two adorable kids, a big, protective dog and a river that scares you? A really good, thrilling page-turner with many sexy “oooo” moments and adorable “awww” moments.

Luke is an ex-Navy Seal running from a past that is trying very hard to catch up with him. He is self-assured while still vulnerable and caring enough to question his own motives and how his actions will impact others. Annie is frightened of the stalker but determined not to be scared away but confused as to what she wants her future to hold. Annie’s job is quite unique and not one I had ever even thought of before or seen in any other books.

The suspense is built up very well throughout the book and had me turning the pages to see what happened next. Mix also does an excellent job of keeping you guessing on who the stalker is. She gives you just enough clues to think you might know who it is then she throws a red herring out there and throws you off entirely.

The thing that struck me as unbelievable was the fact that neither Luke nor Annie had a problem with letting the kids play outside after some of the things that had been happening with the stalker. If I was in that situation my kids would be glued to my side and always in my sight.

Other than the children, there aren’t many secondary characters. We get a few phone calls between Annie and her friend, as well as Annie and her sister and we get one visit from the sister. Annie has quite a history with her siblings that could have really been built up but was left a little flat and the sister is portrayed in such a way that you are left with no sympathy for her at all.

I really enjoy the romantic suspense genre and this book was no exception. The action brought on by the stalker fit the genre very well and the characters were believable. Definitely a book that I would recommend to a friend, so grab a blanket and a reading light, curl up in bed with the lights out, settle in for some nail biting moments and read this book.

When Emma Sharpe is summoned to a convent on the Maine coast, it’s partly for her art crimes work with the FBI, partly because of her past with the religious order. At issue is a mysterious painting depicting scenes of Irish lore and Viking legends, and her family’s connection to the work. But when the nun who contacted her is murdered, it seems legend is becoming deadly reality.

Colin Donovan is one of the FBI’s most valuable assets—a deep–cover agent who prefers to go it alone. He’s back home in Maine after wrapping up his latest mission, but his friend Father Bracken presents him with an intrigue of murder, international art heists and a convent’s long–held secrets that is too tempting to resist. As the danger spirals ever closer, Colin is certain of only one thing—the very intriguing Emma Sharp is at the center of it all.

A ruthless killer has Emma and Colin in the crosshairs, plunging them into a race against time and drawing them deeper into a twisted legacy of betrayal and deceit.

While “Trust your faith. Let it guide you to act with strength, courage, and compassion” is good advice; it is not always easy to follow with a killer invades one’s life, whether one is a nun, an FBI agent, or a priest.

Emma Sharpe is an FBI agent and highly valued for her expertise in the field of art crime. For three years she’d been a part of the Sisters of the Joyful Heart convent, but left before taking final vows.

The international, multimillion dollar art crime operations are often linked with gun trafficking, drug trafficking, money laundering, kidnapping, fraud, extortion, and even terrorism. Emma is analytical and brings a unique perception to her work. While she can shoot straight and fight when needed, she is by nature thoughtful, reflective, contemplative, and prayerful. She needs her space at times to function at her best.

When her friend Sister Joan asks for help on a matter at the convent, Emma goes and finds herself entangled in murder and theft. Events that happened long ago that may involve Emma’s family as well as the convent and artists, long-dead, may be the cause of the upheaval at the convent.

He and Emma square off at each other for a short time, but soon work together with a little encouragement from Emma’s boss Matt Yankowski, who goes a long way back with Colin.

The tangle of events from Dublin, Ireland to Maine keeps the adrenaline pumping. The many secondary characters and sub-plots help keep tensions high and emotions on full alert. Emma’s grandfather and brother become a part of the tangled web as do the nuns. The flighty young artist Ainsley deAuberville, her deceased father, and her fiancé Gabe Campbell add to the tangled web with their connection to Emma’s family and the convent.

Carla Neggers’ skill in foreshadowing and subtle clue-giving make suspense crackle like distant lightning that announces danger. Her characters come alive with their hang-ups, fears, past histories, and present needs. Father Finian Bracken is a character that intrigues with his connections and wealth in Ireland. The wide variety of characters make Saint’s Gate throb with life, mystery, and suspense with humor wrinkled in that makes one smile.

Ms. Neggers weaves bits of Viking lore, religious history, and art crimes into the immediate story of Emma and Colin as they ferret out a murderer and thief from the many possible suspects while they make a life-changing love connection that sizzles. The happy-ever-after is tenuous—not the usual and more a “happy for now”, but who knows what the future holds?

Saint’s Gate is one for the bookshelf to be enjoyed again.

He’s not the only one with something to hide

Chance Hardin has spent many good years as a ranch manager on the Southern Cross. But now it’s time to move on. His brothers want him to join them in the oil business—equal partners. But spending every day with them, Chance would never be able to keep his secret. So to protect their father’s memory, he’ll deny his Texas ambitions. Until Shay Dumont literally crashes into his life.

Who is the beautiful stranger? For the first time, Chance is very interested in the truth. Telling his brothers about the past could destroy their relationship, but it could also bring him everything he’s ever wanted. Including Shay, who is hiding a secret he doesn’t suspect. The truth will challenge everything he knows—about his family, Shay and himself.

A little misunderstanding never hurt anyone…much.

I have to admit, this isn’t my first Linda Warren book. I’ve happily nabbed her other books when shopping. I know the writing will be tight, the characters engaging and I won’t be able to put the book down. The Texan’s Secret is no exception.

The moment I sat down to read this book, I literally couldn’t put it down. I had to know what would happen next. The characters jump right off the page. I love the twists and turns. Nothing happened quite how I’d expected.

Now, some might consider an oil man plot a little tired. Yes, it’s used a lot, but Linda Warren manages to add little touches that makes the story fresh. My one niggle was that here and there large chunks of info seemed plopped in. It slowed the story a bit, but did help my overall following of the tale.

I must say I rooted for Shay and Chance, especially when it looked really bad for the both of them. I could relate to Shay’s confusion and frustration. She only wants the best for Chance and herself. Ah, but life has different plans. I loved her strength and the fact that she didn’t back down. There’s issues she’s got to deal with that many people would struggle with. Kudos to Ms. Warren and Shay.

And that’s what makes this story really engaging–it wasn’t what I’d expected and I’m glad I got this book. And if I’m not mistaken, there are going to be more as there are plenty of brothers and fantastic secondary characters. I can’t wait.

If you want a book that’s a great beach read or perfect for a lazy afternoon, then this is the book for you. I recommend The Texan’s Secret. Grab a copy now.

It’s time to move on

Any day now Jon Adamson will pack his bags and hit the road. After all, his intention was never to hang around Melbourne once he’d settled his late father’s affairs. Yet he hasn’t moved on. And it might have something to do with Gabby Wade. The not-so-big office manager with the really big attitude is making Jon’s days…interesting…engaging…fun. It’s impossible for him to resist her.

But he knows himself—long-term commitments and cozy family dinners aren’t his style. If that’s what the future holds, why is he still here? And why is he spending all his days—and nights—with Gabby? Because maybe she’s the one reason strong enough to make him stay.

This book left me amazed and astounded as to the emotional scope explored between a man damaged by an abusive childhood and a woman strong enough to stand by his side.

At first the story starts off cheeky and I thought it was a shallow battle of the sexes, fun but light. Instead it takes a hard look at the internal scars and the ramifications it has on an adult as he tries to survive the acute trauma from growing up in a household of fear. It’s about the special woman who sees beyond the stoic exterior and attempts to heal him with the power of love. That’s the simple beauty of this absolutely wonderful story called One Good Reason.

Ms. Mayberry has crafted a masterpiece. There is not one scene that didn’t fit, not one sense that wasn’t explored, and the topic was treated with respect, understanding, compassion and hope. At first, like the initial blush of romance, there was the honeymoon stage. But Gabby and Jon are not your typical lovers. They fight like cats and dogs and it’s pretty darned funny. But the author feeds little snippets here and there letting a reader know that it’s not all fluff and light. There is a darkness, a haunting that is pummeling the hero into an emotional pâté and, typical for a guy, he won’t talk about it. Gabby, on the other hand, needs him to face it, shine a light on it and talk it out. But Jon won’t let her in. And there’s the hook. He’s in pain and his pain is her pain but is the heroine strong enough to see it through? To do what it takes to heal him or make him want that healing?

Readers are in for an intense drama filled with all the things that make a relationship worth fighting for. Just like life, there are highs, lows, laughter and tears. There’s fear, anger and hope and delight. And what would a romance be without a healthy dose of lust? Jon and Gabby are dynamite. Literally.
Ms. Mayberry wrote one of the sexiest and volatile scenes I’ve read in a while. Everything that led up to it was a tease, a seduction and when push came to shove, it was a no holds barred, anything goes moment filled with such intense passion, it knocked my socks off. It was only the first of many scenes during the course of the book that were simply genius. Another thing I found amazing were the secondary characters, specifically Jon’s brother Tyler and his wife Ally. They were a credit to the story and to the hero and heroine. Their inclusion didn’t undermine or soften the importance of Jon and Gabby, but strengthened them, made them more real and more personable. It was like visiting a bona fide family – with problems. I can tell the author connected to her characters because she took such care to craft them to be as perfect as they could be. I loved the dialogue, the interactions between them and the moment of catharsis towards the end. It was beautiful, poignant, heart wrenching and influential because Jon and Gabby weren’t an island, they were part of a family. It was that team effort that made this story so powerful and it worked for me.

It’s not all drama and serious intensity however. Gabby is a riot. I loved her sense of humor and her saucy wit. I laughed out loud many times throughout and the best part is when she dragged real laughs from Jon too. They really were fun together and it’s those laughter filled frolicking times that kept me connected and committed to the characters.

The happily ever after is sigh-worthy. I mean it. I had to re-read it a couple of times like I would rewind a movie, to experience that perfect moment again and again when it all comes together and the hero and heroine kiss and make up and declare their undying love. True to the story and to her characters, Ms. Mayberry ended the book in a way that matched what came before. No fake frills but real emotion.

One Good Reason is a book that should be made into a movie. It has all the elements that would win it an Oscar. I adored getting to know Jon and Gabby. I wanted to hug Jon because he tried to be so strong and carry so much pain on his shoulders. I was thrilled with Gabby because she truly never gave up, even when she felt she should. The love was there but so much poison had to be excised first for it to grow and reach its full potential. I was moved by this tale and I thank Ms. Mayberry for a truly remarkable reading experience. Readers who look for a book that talks to the heart and the pure romantic inside can’t go wrong by reading One Good Reason. Just make sure a tissue box is handy nearby.
