“Wanted: one husband, not too particular. Small dowry, several books, sundry furnishings, and elderly aunt included. Idlers, time-wasters, and gentleman with other attachments need not apply.”—Miss Sophie Valentine

A SCANDALOUS LADY

Sophie Valentine knew placing an ad for a husband in the Farmers Gazette would bring her trouble-and she was right. When the darkly handsome, arrogantly charming Lazarus Kane shows up on her doorstep, the nosy residents of Sydney Dovedale are thrown into a gossiping tizzy. After all, it’s common knowledge that Sophie is a young lady In Need of Firmer Direction. But even Sophie isn’t so scandalous as to marry a complete stranger. .. is she?

SEEKS HANDSOME STRANGER

Lazarus Kane has been searching for Sophie half of his life. She may not remember him, but he could never forget her. But the past is a dangerous thing, and it’s best if his remains secret if he wants to tempt Sophie with …

A MOST IMPROPER PROPOSAL

Sophie has always been a bit impetuous and full of the devil. She’s tried to act properly, but it never lasts. And now she’s almost thirty and still unattached.

Ms. Fresina’s story follows the habits of men back in this era. A woman can make no decisions on her own; she either lives with a husband or a married relative. She owns no property. The author makes her main character, Sophia, a woman who will not be controlled and who fights against her female constraints. She cares not what Henry, her brother says. Half the time when she acts out inappropriately it’s in retaliation for the way she’s treated in Henry’s household. That’s why she wrote the advertisement for the paper.

One of my favorite parts of the book is in regards to the ad Sophie places. This was a really clever plot ploy that worked out well for the characters. A portion of the ad is mentioned in the blurb. After you read it I think you’ll see why Sophie is considered improper.

Not only does the author bring Sophie a suitor from her advertisement, Ms. Fresina adds in her old beau from earlier days. This effectively adds conflict because the village and brother think she should marry her old beau. Sophie is trying to decide which suitor would be the right choice for her and gossip runs rampant as the two suitors face off.

This is a busy story that flows well and shows the challenges of the time to marry for love. Money and property were the driving factors then, and women were supposed to do what they were told. I was never very good at that and neither was Sophie so it was easy for me to relate to her and made me empathetic with her problems. There is a little intrigue in the story, too, because Lazarus Kane has come out of nowhere and has no family. His background is interesting and adds another element of tension to a good love story.

Why not get yourself a copy, travel back to the past and watch Sophie fight for what she wants? It’s well worth the read.

When sexy wannabe-demon, Destiny Carter, is kicked out of Hell, she lands in Ft. Worth, Texas with one week to corrupt a soul. Or else. She slips into a slinky red dress, and heads straight for the delicious, corruptible looking cowboy at the bar.

But Chance Bellew has his own agenda-saving souls. He’s not your typical angel. He’s a nephilim, to be exact. Centuries ago, angels came down from Heaven and mated with mortal women. When the women bore children, a new race was created. Immortals with powers—demigods, nephilim.

But the children don’t live by the same rules as mortals, or that of the typical, robe-wearing, bright light-surrounding-them angels. Hell, most of the time the nephilim are breaking the rules, and making up new ones as they go. As long as they don’t cross over to the dark side, everyone pretty much stays out of their way.

But sometimes a demon-in-training, who looks like Destiny, comes along and all Hell breaks loose.

Breaking loose has never been this hot.

I love the work of Karen Kelley. When I saw this book was up for review, I jumped on it. I’m glad I did. This book was HOT. That pretty well sums it up. HOT. Ms Kelley’s story flowed well. I didn’t feel jarred even when there was a lot of sex. I know, this is an erotic work, but there is a lot of sex. Since Destiny is a demon, I expected nothing less.

This book is a story of second chances and redemption. I identified with Destiny. She’s had it rough and is doing the best with what she’s got. Although her story is heartbreaking, part of it was lost in the amounts of sex. I like sex in a book, but sometimes I wanted to skip ahead. Don’t get me wrong. The sex is hot, but I wanted more plot.

Then there’s Chance. I really liked him, but I wanted more of him. I wanted to see what went on in his head. He’s smoldering hot and consumed by his passion for Destiny, even though she’s forbidden fruit and yet…I didn’t feel as much as I’d have liked. He is drool-worthy, though and I could’ve read the descriptions of him over and over. Yum. Where can I find a nephilim of my own?

If you want a story with a demon trying to become a better person, then this might be the book for you. If you want lots of sex and a hero to drool over, then it really might be for you. Pick up a copy.

An Explosive Attraction…

Lady Leila Staines has always felt like an outcast among her magically gifted sisters. Desperate to discover her own talent, she seeks out Dunstan Ives, a dark and brooding aristocrat with a scientific bent who may hold the key to unleashing Leila’s hidden powers.

Can Create A Spark That’s Pure Magic…

Dunstan has shunned the decadent society that wrongfully condemned him of murder, and he’s vowed never again to succumb to the spell of a beautiful woman. But the bewitching Lady Leila makes him a proposal no man in his position can resist.

Oh yes, there is magic—of pheromones, life from a tiny seed, family love, unique talents, secret places, and “meant-to-be” love that bides its time but will not be denied.

When a Malcolm woman and an Ives man make a deal that will allow each of them to work toward respective goals, Society is aghast. Leila and Durstan are each misfits, yet their families give unstinting support always and more so when they face tremendous odds.

Dunstan Ives, the most learned agronomist in England, is believed by many to be a murderer. Consequently, when the wealth widow Leila, Lady Staines, hires him as her estate manager, enemies contrive to derail their plans. Durstan hates being beholden to Lady Staines. But he has financial responsibilities; he needs to clear his name; and he also needs a place to bring to fruition his experiment with a special crop that will benefit poor farmers.

His surly ways irk Leila, but she weighs her irritation against her desires and decides to outmaneuver him so she can have her roses and pursue her dream.

Leila had conquered Society for her late husband’s sake and now she has solid social standing among the elite. However, all she wants is to live on her country estate, grow flowers—especially roses, so she can distill special scents that fit personalities. These scents prove to be the key that unlocks the secret to her “special gift”—what a gift it is!

Dunstan avoids and ignores the Lady of the Manor, Leila, as much as possible. To him she’s a dangerous Malcolm who has a sultry regal elegance and even though she seems slightly vulnerable at times, she’s tenacious in her determination to get what she wants.

Conversely, Dunstan lusts for the dark-haired woman called Lily in the red dress who digs in the dirt and protects baby rabbits. He’s attracted to her quick wit, lighthearted ways, provocative nature, and is rather amazed at her total lack of proper respect for authority. He doesn’t know how she fits in on the estate, but she sends his body into an agony of unrequited lust.

As Leila learns more about how to channel her gift, she begins to unravel some happenings that are a threat to her and to Dunstan, but she also uses it to have fun with Durstan in her own special way. She does get frustrated as they battle for control with both of them determined to get what they want.

Leila’s nephew who will get the estate should she remarry is a spoiled, undisciplined young man with an agenda all his own. He and his, so–called friends make life miserable for her. The life-threatening situations that flare up keep the reader on pins and needles.

Both the Ives and Malcolm families rally to the cause when Leila and Dunstan need them. These highly gifted people bring humor and excitement, as well as a no-nonsense determination and ability to protect their own. Dunstan’s son, Griffin, and his questionable relative, “Adonis”, bring complications and mystery to mix with all the other happenings. Of course, each the members of both families seem to have intriguing stories of their own.

Patricia Rice’s remarkable descriptions of places and people bring the story to life. She creates mesmerizing scenes that are breathtaking and truly magical. The grotto scene is one long to be remembered—gracious, how it quickens the senses. She weaves together fun, fear, and serious happenings along with captivating back stories as Leila and Dunstan’s beautiful love takes deep root and thrives. Her tantalizing symbolism and compelling metaphors make Must Be Magic enchanting. What a joy to read!

Furious and threatening, Iverson storms into Catalina’s house, demanding satisfaction, but the infamous rake has finally met his match. With her cool demeanor and intense intelligence, Catalina heats his blood like no other woman in his notorious history…

A sparkling love story from the core out, A Gentleman Says “I Do” has a hero and heroine who grab one’s heart and take it on a magical journey from antipathy to ecstatic love.

Threatening a young lady’s father with bodily harm does not engender trust—a truth Iverson Brentwood has to work around as he and the enchanting Catalina Crisp engage in a stimulating, on-going verbal scrimmage that verges on all-out warfare. Neither seems to gain much advantage over the other as emotions run high and gossip runs rampant.

When The Daily Herald publishes Phillip Crisp’s parody “A Tale of Three Gentlemen”, London’s Society finds it highly entertaining, but Iverson Brentwood does not. When Henry VIII dies, leaving behind his nine-year-old son as his heir, a deadly series of power struggles begins, transforming the lives of two women. Jane Dudley’s husband, the Duke of Northumberland, becomes the most powerful man in England, while Frances Grey perches with her daughter Jane dangerously close to the throne. But when Mary Tudor asserts her own right to the crown, Frances and Jane Dudley find that the lives of their husbands and children are in mortal danger. The never-before-told story of the women behind the crowning of Jane Grey, this novel is an illuminating tale of ambition gone awry.

Love, treason, and betrayal are the spice of life in this historical fiction story. Based in the 1500’s after Henry VIII’s death, this story was full of drama and passion. The author transported me to a time of Victorian dresses and kings and I loved every second of it.

I have always been fascinated by English history, and this story helped to feed my long running addiction. The author did a spectacular job capturing the period and made me feel as if I were transported through time and became a lady during this era. I even found myself speaking as if I was from the time period at times. This proves how enthralled by this story I truly was. As with any novel of this nature, it did take me a few paragraphs to “get into the act” so to speak since it’s based on a different time period with different verbiage, but the author did an excellent job in making sure it was understandable while still maintaining that old English feeling.

One thing I did struggle with during the story was following the characters at times. This story follows two separate women, Jane Dudley and Frances Grey, and their families. Part of the confusion was that there were sometimes two characters with the same name, such as two women named Jane. order cialis online you can try this out This is a condition where people sleep with eyes open. Want a fast and effective solution to help with male impotence? Have a buy cipla viagra consultation with a web-based merchant. While I understand why since the author was trying to stay true to the actual people, it did make things a bit puzzling at times.

The author truly did history justice when writing this story. One essential aspect about writing historical fiction is to try to keep it as authentic as possible. This author more than exceeded that goal. She even incorporated Author’s Notes at the end to explain the information provided, the validity of it and any discrepancies that may exist. She stayed as true to the story and characters as history allowed her, and it certainly helped create an inspired story. Had history class been this entertaining in school I would have learned so much more.

This is a story you couldn’t make up if you wanted to. The plot was so riveting I couldn’t get enough. While the Dudleys and Greys had little in common, other than status, their lives seemed to be continuously entangled with one another from the beginning right to the bitter end. This story had every type of twist and turns imaginable and in the end, it left me wanting even more.

This is a story I would not only recommend to readers of this review but people I personally know and I plan on encouraging them to read this story. It’s that good.

Is the magic of Jane a moveable feast?

Jane Austen thrives in the 21st century, living on in book clubs, in conversations, in quiet reads with a cup of coffee.

She is unchanged by time. But is she unchanged by place? Does Austen still work magic in new time zones, new countries, new languages?

Amy Elizabeth Smith wanted to find out. With a suitcase full of Austen novels en español, Smith set off on a yearlong Latin American road trip with Jane. In six unique, unforgettable countries, she gathered book-loving new friends—taxi drivers and teachers, poets and politicians—to read Emma, Sense and Sensibility, and Pride and Prejudice. On the road, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times (no, wait, that’s Dickens…).Whether sharing rooster beer with Guatemalans, joining the crowd at a Mexican boxing match, feeding a horde of tame iguanas with Ecuadorean children, or wrangling argumentative booksellers in Argentina, Amy came to learn what Austen knew all along: we’re not always speaking the same language, even when we’re speaking the same language. But with true Austen instinct she could recognize when, unexpectedly, she’d found her own Señor Darcy. All Roads Lead to Austen celebrates the wisdom (and pleasure!) of of letting go and becoming a student again, no matter what our age.

This non-fiction story is quite an entertaining bit of adventure. Fans of Jane Austen are likely to find it highly enjoyable.

The author, Amy Elizabeth Smith, is a professor at a California university, and she teaches Jane Austen’s work. Armed with several of J.A.’s novels, Ms Smith goes to Latin America to discover the answer to intriguing questions: Is Jane Austen’s work appreciated in the Spanish-speaking world? Do her stories and characters have universal appeal? For example, could Pride and Prejudice be set in Mexico…etc?

Ms. Smith has a boyfriend that she stays with in Mexico, so there is a little romance in this book, but the focus is on the literary and cultural adventure. Questions come up. He wants her to stay in Mexico, but she has a terrific job in California. Also, later in the book, she meets an intriguing man in Argentina. Who is her “Mr. Darcy?”

There are great insights into other cultures. Some wonderful questions pop up when Ms. Smith holds her reading groups with readers of the countries she visits (having given the readers Spanish translations of Jane Austen’s work). Some of the ladies in one country bring up the subject of gender inequality. It seems they can relate to the novel and believe it could be set in their country. In some ways, people from Latin cultures can relate better to Austin’s time than citizens of the United States can, like with women’s place in society. These readers offer new and colorful insights about J.A.’s work. There are male readers too. Their perspective adds a nice touch to the groups’ opinions. It’s all very thought provoking. The J.A. novels bring up such important things as parental/child relationships, among many other things.

Ms. Smith catches a mysterious tropical disease during her travels but carries on. Two doctors can’t figure out what she has, and it’s alarming. The suspense is written well. She finally visits a doctor with answers, and it affects the rest of her journey.

On to more countries, and the reader is treated to an inside look and many great descriptions of these places. More questions provide food for thought, like those involving honor and other deep subjects the Spanish readers bring up while reading Jane Austen.

The reader is treated to the names of famous authors from each of the countries visited. Also, there are dashes of humor. The North American readers gets a peek into how people from some of these countries view people in their neighboring countries. Even some jokes are given.

All this talk of literature brought out so many universal concepts to think about while contrasting cultural perspectives add educational interest. Mix that with the humor, the wonderful descriptions, engaging real-life characters, the mysterious disease, the romance and more, and this book makes for an excellent travel adventure. Hopefully this author will go to other countries and write another book. She has a real talent for making non-fiction fast-paced and fun.

I could tell he was used to taking care of everyone else but himself. It made him even more lost in a foreign world. After spending so much time in the Goblin realm he had to learn how to function in a world that had developed without him.

This story is a sequel to The Goblin King and I haven’t read the first book. While many aspects of the story were easy to follow I was a bit confused by the goblin background of Dai. I did eventually begin to understand the previous events, but my ignorance of the back story took away some of my appreciation of certain parts of the story. I will say that now that I’ve experienced one of the Shadowland Stories I would surely enjoy and look for any future stories.

This story would be enjoyable for anyone who loves a delightfully sweet romance story with two deserving characters. The romance development, subplots and excellent characters were truly entertaining.

Elaine Coffman’s compelling writing style gives a definite sense of time in history without getting into the wars and fighting. She focuses on the lives of the ordinary people and how they live, love, and take care of each other. The conflicts come from personal agendas rather than from political ones.

In Lord of the Black Isle, Ms. Coffman sprinkles in many jewels of literature that bring to mind old truths that still touch the emotions and senses. The poignant quotes that announce each chapter are special bonuses—many of them bring back memories of college days and long discussions about life. Also, her descriptions are captivating. They quicken the senses. For example one can almost feel the cold water of the burns and the cold damp that seeps in and chills when the sun disappears and the stinging cold of the rain driven by the cold wind comes. But one also sees the sparkling beautiful of the harsh country when the sun shines brightly.

Best of all in the descriptions is the love that grows strong and true–mental, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, plus the love scenes that swamp the senses and sweep the reader along on a euphoric tide toward ecstasy with the hero and the heroine—sensual, sizzling, and so satisfying.

Lady Madeline Hayburn Has Money Problems…

Specifically, she has so much of it that she’s dogged by fortune hunters, including her bewilderingly attractive, penniless neighbor, with his wild nature and uncouth manners…

Weston Hadley Has An Identity Crisis…

Specifically, he’s just turned into a wolf while Madeline was watching. Now it’s up to the regal lady to tame the wild beast…if she can…

There’s that certain saucy something about those rapscallion Hadley men that makes a woman sit up and take notice while trying to act as if she’s not. Back in the day, women did not boldly ogle men no matter how devilishly handsome they might be. Instead they admired behind fans, in whispers and with covert glances. That’s the usual course but Lady Madeline Hayburn is far from typical, and that made her the perfect foil for Weston Hadley’s downfall. It’s that whole man, wolf, woman, mate thing that makes The Wolf Who Loved Me completely entertaining and fun.

Once again Ms. Dare has delivered a tasty treat by bringing together two fascinating and mismatched people, and the author has them fall in love despite numerous episodes of mix-ups, twisted intentions, humorous hijinks and serious drama. I was delighted to see some of my favorite people from previous books lend a helping hand to the two hapless lovers-to-be. There’s an incredible amount of sensual build-up and teasing that just about drives the hero over the edge. And when he awakens Maddie to the pleasures her own body is capable of, she’s not too far behind him in the wanting. That sense of frustration is actually quite funny at times due to the various reasons they keep getting delayed. It’s a very interesting courtship.

Part of the interruption comes from the secondary characters. Ms. Dare has not only brought in some people I’ve “met” before, but also some new and interesting people who are quite imperfect, totally improper and utterly effective in spicing up the plot conflict. The author does apply the frequently used “miscommunication/It’s not what it looks like” ploy to derail the forward motion of the romance. I suspect it was to allow the main characters to clear up their misconceptions about their relationship and focus on what is truly important – each other. Nothing spurs them quite so well as the threat of a strange man sniffing around what belongs to another. In that regard, my opinions of the scoundrel in question ping ponged all over the place. The one fact that stood out about that guy and which piqued my interest were the mixed signals he gave off leading me to believe he has secrets. Ones that I might be very tempted to want to read about in a future story. Only the author knows if that will be an eventual possibility. Certainly in this book, he was entertaining and integral to the movement of the story.

As for the heroine, Maddie, I liked her a lot. That makes the durable love making in place of cialis 10 mg appalachianmagazine.com we have now cialis. Boneless penis depends on the sensitive on line cialis veins for erection. Men want to last longer in bed and in acompetition to perform well they lead to tadalafil 20mg for sale early ejaculation. It is very important that good Sexologists in Bangalore call the couples and discuss the cialis prescriptions issues. In fact, she has one of the funniest knee-slapping scenes in the whole book. I felt so bad for her because she was so clueless and thought she was being oh, so clever. I simply could not stop laughing. As for Wes, he tried, he surely did, but even he couldn’t withhold from telling her what she actually did. The end result was pure giggles. Poor Maddie. She was so proud of herself too. That’s one bit of education I don’t think she’ll ever forget. **VBG**

It’s not all roses and playful barks. There is huge emotional turmoil that dogs Wes’s romance with Maddie that almost broke my heart. Two lovers from different levels of the nobility compound their internal angst with wanting the best for the other and willing to sacrifice everything to ensure they get it. Talk about tortured martyrs! Good thing one of them broke down and did the most public and profound action that ensured complete understanding. But I’m not going to tell readers what that person did because it’s so wonderfully unusual, knowing anything more would ruin the big moment.

The Wolf Who Loved Me is another wonderful story that will hold an honored spot on my keeper shelf. Ms. Dare has written hit after hit and this book is no different. The dialogue is witty and rapid-fire and it keeps the flow brisk and fascinating; the relationships are at times amazingly convoluted yet emotional and all the characters take turns acting silly, ornery, and honorable to a fault, fractious and altruistic. As for the protagonists, Maddie and Wes are terrific together. I enjoyed how they went from being strangers to lovers, from feeling unhappy to over the moon and from being lonely to bringing out the best in each other. Love inspires greatness in others and this story explores that saying in wonderful detail. The best thing about this particular tale is how clear every personality becomes as each person talks, complains, schemes, insults or makes jokes. They seem vividly alive and full of the kinds of faults and foibles that makes us human and yet, love finds them and redeems them. It doesn’t get any better than that. I adore Ms. Dare’s Regency werewolves; they’re so fun!
