She is the only thing he wants to unwrap.

Bella Jackson models clothes only the most sexually confident woman would dare to wear. But there’s a secret hiding behind the bad-girl reputation and barely there couture. Under the covers, she’s a total novice.

At least it was a secret. Not anymore, thanks to an ex’s blabbing. Now she’s been branded with a potentially career-ending label: Ice Queen.

Only years of practice keep the nerves at bay, and her signature walk rock steady—until a tall, sexy Texan’s gaze fixes like a laser beam on her scantily clad body. And her stiletto heels miss a step.

From the moment Jake Barton locks eyes with the smoking-hot woman on the catwalk, he knows it’s only a matter of time. He never expected the heat between them to melt away her aloof façade before they’ve even touched, revealing the vulnerable woman underneath.

Suddenly he realizes he wants more than a roll in the hay. Now to convince her to take a chance on Texas—and him—before their fragile relationship is bulldozed by tabloid lies and innuendo.

Bella Jackson has never been so nervous stepping out onto the catwalk. After a very public – and very bitter – break up with her boyfriend, the media has gone wild over Ice Queen and Frigid claims the jerk had made about her. Bella was far from a prude, but had merely been so caught up in her career since her early teens much of the normal aspects of a sensual relationship had passed her by. Her old “bad-girl” reputation hid the career-minded model, who found herself still a virgin at twenty six.

A pair of green eyes and a wicked, masculine smile almost drags Bella out of her runway walk – and her body reacts fiercer than she’d ever believed possible. Jake Barton – dragged to the show by his sister, Lise – can’t believe the power of his instant reaction to Bella. Sparks fly between them, and when they keep on meeting, show after show, their hunger for each other continues to grow.

I really enjoyed the slower pace of romance this novel. While a few aspects of the plot felt clichéd to me, this is a well-written, sensual novel that left me eagerly turning the pages. This wasn’t one of those “their eyes met and they fell into bed” tale. The author kept the heat simmering, but I thought the pace was far more realistic than many spicy stories. Both Bella and Jake were well-rounded characters who knew exactly what they wanted and weren’t shy going about getting it. Add in some cowboy tricks, the ever-present media nosiness and a few good laughs and this was a heart-warming story that kept me interested from start to finish. I really enjoyed it.

Heigh ho, heigh ho, it’s back to hell she goes…

Grimm’s Circle, Book 7

Myrsina knows the stories. As one of the oldest of the Grimm, she had a hand in writing most of them, but only she knows the dark origin of the Seven Bloody Sisters. It springs from the place of her birth—and her death. A place of pain and misery to which she plans to never return. Unless forced.

When Luc appears on her doorstep, her heart twists with suppressed longing for the man who can never be hers. The only man who can make her do the impossible—go home.

Luc may be blind, but through their unique, bittersweet connection, even he can see that the task laid before them is ripping Sina’s soul apart. This time it isn’t as simple as fighting a demon that has escaped from the netherplains.

Sina must go back in time—to that cursed ground—and right a wrong that she unknowingly brought about. To write a new ending to a story that may give them both a chance at happily ever after. Assuming they survive.

Blind Destiny is the seventh of Shiloh Walker’s Grimm’s Circle stories, and they just keep getting better each time.

Myrsina is one of the oldest of the Grimm: guardian angels walking the Earth to protect humanity from demons that have crossed over from the netherworld. She knows all the stories, and even created a few herself. There is nothing that could get her to return to the place she fears, her homeland and the place where things went so terribly bad for her. Nothing, and no one, except for one man, the one weakness she carries deep inside.

Luc has been blind a long time, but with his ‘special’ sight, even he can see how this latest mission is affecting her. ‘Sina was Luc’s trainer, and he has had feelings for her since that long ago time. ‘Sina loves Luc as well, but thinks he is still in love with the wife he once loved, the woman who broke him so long ago, before he was a Grimm. When Will tells ‘Sina that she must return and correct the past in order to prevent more destruction, he send the one person that can get through to her on every level: Luc. Can she work with Luc, thinking he can never care for her, and then move on? Can Luc break down her barriers and show her what he feels for her? Once the mission is over, will these two go their separate ways, never knowing the truth of their feelings?

The world Ms. Walker has created is a dark and dangerous one; the characters are all well crafted, with strength and determination to do what they have been charged to do. I enjoy these grown up versions of the fairy tale characters we have all grown up with, and seeing them interact with each other to help humanity.

Myrsina is one of the first Grimm created, and she has seen more than many could have survived and stayed reasonably sane. She is strong, but alone, and does not ever want to go back to where things went so horribly bad for her. When she learns that what happened so long ago is still having repercussions, and that Will is charging her with fixing things, she wants to refuse him. When she finds that Will has partnered her with the one man she can’t forget, she realizes it may be her only chance to spend time with Luc. I enjoyed watching as ‘Sina slowly adjusts to being close to someone, and like her determination to ask for nothing more than he can give. She is a kick butt and ask questions later type of heroine, and I enjoyed seeing her softer side around Luc.

Luc may be blind, but he sees so much in spite of that disability. He has been alone for centuries, and has decided this mission will be his last, that he will be turning in his wings when this is over. When Will teams him with ‘Sina, he tries to convince her he has feelings, but when he thinks she is rejecting what he offers, he feels it is time to let her go. Luc is tired of wanting and never having the woman who lives and loves only in his heart. I really enjoyed watching as Luc worked his way past ‘Sina’s walls, and let her see what was in his heart, finally. He just wonders if it was already too late.

As with all of the Grimm’s Circle books, some of the enjoyment comes from figuring out which fairy tale characters are the basis for the story, and this one was no exception. The threads of this one converged to create a powerful and moving romance, and there were moments of passion along with some danger, and some lighter moments as well. I found the new character Ms. Walker introduced to be a fascinating addition to the cast of characters, and wonder if we will be seeing more of him in future stories. I also enjoyed the brief peek at Will’s life and can’t wait for his story in the future.

A love prescription so potent only the hottest doctor can fill it.

Miami TV reporter Francesca Lake is on a manhunt…or rather, a doctor hunt. Frankie wasn’t always a hypochondriac. Her motto used to be “Fear is not an option”, but everything changed with her mom’s near-fatal heart attack. Now a day doesn’t go by where she isn’t worried about something.

After a harrowing incident in the hospital ER, she has a life-altering epiphany. She needs to find a marriage-minded doctor ASAP—one who will calm her fears so she can get on with her life.

So begins a series of amorous escapades and startling revelations as she works her way through the list of eligibles: an outrageous Aussie sex therapist, a brilliant neurosurgeon (who’s wired the wrong way), and a handsome Cuban cardiologist.

None of them compares to hunky Dr. Harrison Taylor…but there’s a problem. Much as Harrison’s rugged physique, forest-green eyes and warm smile make her senses wobbly, she needs a people doctor, not the vet for her miniature dachshund Romeo. Besides, Harrison’s propensity for crazy stunts would only make her worry more.

Frankie is trying to be sensible, but her heart and her outspoken dog are conspiring against her…

Woof, woof, woof! Oh, sorry, I was speaking in dog terms. Why? Well, not only is there a comical and fun story in Paging Dr. Hot, there’s a cute dog named Romeo that plays a very important role in the story. Can’t understand dog speak? I apologize again. Perhaps I should just tell you what I know…..

Francesca Lake has a little bit of a problem. She’s become overwhelmed with constant worry. She freaks out at the smallest things, and can’t help herself. What’s a girl to do? This one decides it’s time to find a man, stat! Oh, not just any man, but a doctor. Can you smell the trouble brewing? Francesca is putting herself on the market, or at least, looking for a doctor on the market. Francesca is quite humorous. She’s not perfect, by far, but she’s easily to relate to. Haven’t you ever had an incident or a life changing event that puts you a little over the edge, maybe makes you crazy for a little while? I know I have. It’s pretty easy to do, that’s for sure.

Some of the prospects include Harrison, a neighbor, but he’s not a people doctor. He’s a vet. But I was rooting for him to win Francesca’s heart. He’s always around and helping her out, handling her quirks very well. He doesn’t want to just get into her pants, he’s actually a good friend. Come on, Harrison, go for the win!

The book is written in two points of view. It’s first person, so readers get a lot of insight on Francesca. But get this, there are snippets of information from another point of view:  Romeo. No, not the Shakespeare character, I promise. There is no rising from the dead in this book. It’s straight up contemporary. And no, Romeo isn’t one of the names of hunky or strange doctors Francesca has set in her radars, either. Am I keeping the suspense up for you? Romeo is Francesca’s beloved dog. Are you intrigued yet?

Paging Dr. Hot is a definite feel good read. It’s light, charming, witty and all around a great story! I had a blast with it. This is the kind of story that you can pull of the shelf again and again to surround yourself with fun. If this story is any indication of Ms. Knightly’s writing, I’m hooked. I need more.

If you’re a fan of great contemporary romantic comedies, I recommend Paging Dr. Hot. Warning, prepare for some great laughs!

It’s tough to win the game of love if you don’t understand the rules.

Though Tony Mullin agreed to put on a medieval costume, complete with pointy hat, for her best friend’s marriage vow renewal, another round of wedding bells will never be in her own future. Been there, done that, still sifting through the ashes of broken dreams.

Yet she can’t take her eyes off the Armani-clad mystery man among the guests—and no one’s more surprised to learn it’s David Peterson, the erstwhile nerd who mooned over her in high school. He not only grew up to be a hunk, but a rich one as well. Pity she’s sworn off men.

Last David knew, sweet, artistic Tony married the high school quarterback. He made his fortune developing video games, but the torch he carried for her still smolders. His surprise that she’s ditched the jock quickly turns to determination to win her heart at last…though she seems just as determined to play keep-away.

David didn’t become successful by giving up easily. A freak snowstorm plays into his strategy, but debugging a few gigabytes of computer code seems easier than figuring out how to win this wary woman’s love.

Have you ever wanted to go to your high school reunion to show everyone how well you are doing in life? Or have you ever wanted to show up for your high school reunion looking so much better that no one recognizes you and everyone is also in awe of you?

David Peterson shows up for a classmate’s wedding (basically a high school reunion) looking like a hunk, wearing an expensive designer suit. Antonytte “Tony” Mullin had no idea who he was in high school. Apparently he was her math tutor, but she still didn’t remember him very much. Gradually, she realized that he was the boy she shot down at a dance because she was too concerned about remaining with the popular group. Could she make amends now or should she make amends? Tony is struggling with rebuilding her life, dealing with past issues. She is taking classes to become an accountant even though she hates dealing with numbers. Tony used to love drawing, but has turned her back on it because she has heard that the outlook for artist jobs is not promising.

David has made a successful career out of something he enjoys doing, but has not had much time for dating. He also never got over his high school crush who didn’t even seem to notice him back then. When the opportunity to rescue Tony comes up, David jumps at the chance to be her knight in shining armor. He has always been kind and patient with Tony, but she overlooks him, favoring her own agenda.

Even though the story kind of happened the way that I expected, I still enjoyed it very much. I fell in love with David and was wishing that I could still spend more time with him even after the story ended. Tony reacted the only way she could due to her past experiences, but she also changed for the better after she made some revelations with a little help from her friends. The plot was very interesting to me because I have always wondered about former classmates even though I have yet to attend a reunion. Ms. Knights’ writing style is quick-paced, making reading a pleasure. I will definitely look for more books from this author.

For a fun high school reunion, wedding-style, snap up a copy of Dealing with David. It will appeal to anyone who has ever wondered about their high school classmates, wanted to carry out an outstanding appearance at their high school reunion, or just needed a great story to read that combines revenge, overcoming obstacles, and romance.

She was ready for his steel, but not for his flesh.

Luísa Tavares has a list of sins the length of the Antilles, but there’s no time to repent for them now. When a pockmarked Frenchman hands her Papa’s ring—still attached to his severed finger—she orders the Coral back to the Caribbean, despite her father’s earlier warning never to return.

It’s Luísa’s luckless fate that the only man who can help her is a blasted Inglés pirate hunter who’s more dead than alive and locked in a curse he doesn’t want lifted. Worse, his feral sensuality sparks a hunger she can’t ignore.

Xander Daltry hadn’t planned on kidnapping this wild woman—or succumbing to his uncontrollable desire for her. But he needs Luísa and the moonstone she wears around her neck to rescind a witch’s spell. His sister, long dead, and others like her have been cursed to remain in the mortal plane for eternity. Only the stone can set them free.

The only way to convince the reluctant pirate queen to help him is to withhold one small bit of the truth. For if she learns who really betrayed her father, the longing in her fiery eyes could easily turn to murderous wrath…

Product Warnings
Contains a pirate queen with a sacred gem, a werewolf with an agenda, an island where nothing is as it seems, and a hero with a Jolly Roger that’ll make you purr like a kitten.

Do you like pirates? What about werewolves? And ghosts? Gargoyles?

How would you like it if all those pirates, werewolves, ghosts, and gargoyles decided to come together into one book? Fun, right?

Luisa is a young pirate in search of her missing father and when she gets information that he is on a supernatural island, she knows where she needs to go to rescue him. While on the cursed island, she gets to meet all kinds of creatures ranging from zombies to were-hyenas. In the process, she befriends a ghost, a gargoyle, and falls in love with a werewolf. But with every step she takes, trouble follows.

I really don’t want to give anything away so I’ll stop there but believe me, you need to read this. It’s a romance and an adventure story. It’s full of comedy and sadness. Some scenes make you laugh and others cry.

I fell in love with all the characters, from the very charming Xander, who is what every hero should be, to the adorable pet monkey. The villains were truly horrible and I hated them.

One big talent that author Maria Zannini has, that is so hard to pull off, is her ability to make the reader feel. It’s like all the emotions these characters experienced, the readers did too. They flowed through the page. Her writing is flawless. I’ve read several of Ms. Zannini’s books but this one was the best, in my opinion.

I really enjoyed this book and couldn’t recommend it enough. I think there is a little of something for everyone and I’m sure you all will enjoy it. So go ahead and get yourself a copy of Mistress of the Stone today!

This time, the straight-and-narrow path could be the road to ruin.

Dr. Elyse Morgan’s mission: find the cure to the HTN4 virus. The compensation, courtesy of the United Nations: a lab stocked with hi-tech goodies, limitless resources and enough chocolate to make her rear look like a cellulite farm. Bonus: she gets to live.

Rescued (kidnapped) and secreted (imprisoned) on an undersea warship, Elyse adjusts to her assumed identity as a cadet with the finesse of a toeless ballerina. Her sulfuric temper and blatant insubordination capture the unwanted attention of the ship’s captain, the gorgeous, infuriating, engaged Nicoli Marek.

Elyse would rather perform her own autopsy than become the other woman, but Nicoli—who’s as full of himself as he is of secrets—regards his impending marriage as a mere political transaction. And Elyse as fair game.

As Elyse’s suspicions about the UN’s true agenda mount along with her attraction to the relentless, chronically shirtless captain, she must choose between the murky path to everything she’s ever wanted, or the squeaky-clean path of self-sacrifice—which could mean taking the secrets of the virus with her to the grave.

It’s a race to save the world, keep your life, and…fall in love? Okay, so that’s an unexpected bonus. But the road to get there is a bumpy ride, so fasten your seat belts and hang on tight…Oh, and keep all hands and feet inside the contraption at all times!

If it seems the weight of the world falls on Elyse Morgan’s shoulders, you’re probably right. A woman on a mission can only mean one thing- trouble! Does she find it? I’d have to say yes. Elyse is one tough cookie–as long as that cookie is chocolate, that is. That’s her weakness. If someone told her to come to the dark side because they have chocolate, well the fate of humanity may be lost forever. Okay, seriously, Elyse’s character is definitely tough. She’s got so much to live and fight for, and it’s not easy to take her down. The story is written in first person, which is Elyse’s, so we definitely get a lot of insight about her character.

Co starring with Elyse in this story (and not too happy about sharing the spotlight, perhaps?) is the ship’s captain, Nicoli Marek. He’s a character to get used to. I did not like him for most of the story. He’s a bit stuffy, and to be honest, full of himself. His attitude is not one to root for, and there were times I wanted to jump into the pages and give him a nice smack. He doesn’t treat Elyse very kindly, and he has a tendancy to be a jerk. Need I say more? I think that’s where my problem lies within this book. Yes, he does have a few redeeming qualities, but you have to look very hard to find them.

As for the premise of this story- I loved it! It’s unique and fun, and very fast paced. The world created by the author is a job well done. Readers can tell that it wasn’t just thrown together. The sci fi aspect grabbed hold of me and took me along for a great adventure. I could look past my hero issues because of how well written the rest of the story is.

Overall, this is a great book! Very well played out and the plot stands out and brings plenty of tension. If you like a bit of science fiction blended in with a romance, and want an adventure to keep you on your toes. Degrees of Wrong is a good place to start.

If he’s such a man’s man, then why did he just win a Mother of the Year award?

“Wild Bill” Cody has a problem. The author of a popular series of action-adventure novels, he has also been penning an anonymous column of motherhood articles based on his experience raising his two-year-old nephew. When his handiwork lands him the magazine’s coveted Motherhood of the Year award, he knows that if he accepts the award as himself, his book-writing career will be over. He needs a mommy stand-in. Stat!

Maggie Magee is perfect for the role. The assistant headmistress of a prestigious girls’ academy, Maggie will make a perfect imaginary mom for Bobby. Too bad she is adamantly against the idea. In fear for her own job should she go along with this harebrained scheme, Maggie finds herself reluctantly agreeing to participate. But as the awards draw nearer, both Maggie and Cody start to see fiction become fact as their partnership becomes something more…and baby makes three.

A warning for the readers first off: This is a historical romance only in the fact that it was written/first published almost 25 years ago. It was written as a contemporary romance and was contemporary when first released (the novel was first published as a “Silhouette Romance in April, 1988”). If you are not aware of this fact, it can definitely color your enjoyment of this novel.

The basic premise is an enjoyable one – stuffy school administrator gets roped into a deception through her mother and all hell breaks loose (as well as a romance). The hero, our “writer under cover as a mother” is everything you would expect of a romance hero. Kind, attentive, good with kids, and has a hint of subterfuge on his mind. Our heroine is confused, cast into a role by her situation, and unbendable . . . until the right hero comes along, that is!

Maggie’s mother is a unique secondary character. She is portrayed as an eccentric, and has her own ideas on how to achieve her goals. The other secondary character is the young man who keeps bringing Maggy and Cody together – Bobby.

As I was reading, I was led in the belief that this story was set in northern Wisconsin which made some of the actions very confusing. During the search for a “mother” to accept Cody’s award, Cody and Maggie head to Chicago to search modeling agencies. This would be quite difficult to do as heading to Minnesota and the twin cities would be much closer. However, we find by the end of the book that they are located in Lake Geneva, which is, in fact, in one of the southern-most Wisconsin counties, thereby making a trip to Chicago much more feasible and understandable!

There were other parts of the book that marred my enjoyment of this book (i.e. lack of a carseat, other child-related issues) that may not have detracted quite so much had I been reading the book in the proper historical context. Therefore, I find myself giving this story the “benefit of the doubt”.

So. . . if you find you are lover of a classic romance, and really enjoyed the late ‘80’s – this one’s for you! However, as a general romance reader, pick this up with the caveat that it truly reads as a 1980’s romance and enjoy from there.

Real vampires do musicals.

Biting Love, Book 5

Gunter Marie “Junior” Stieg is stuck selling sausage for her folks in small-town Meiers Corners. Until one day she’s offered a way out—the chance to play pit orchestra for a musical headed for Broadway: Oz, Wonderful Oz.

But someone is threatening the show’s young star. To save the production, Junior must join forces with the star’s dark, secretive bodyguard, whose sapphire eyes and lyrical Welsh accent thrill her. And whose hard, muscular body sets fire to her passions.

Fierce as a warrior, enigmatic as a druid, Glynn Rhys-Jenkins has searched eight hundred years for a home. Junior’s get-out-of-Dodge attitude burns him, but everything else about her inflames him, from her petite body and sharp mind to what she can do with her hip-length braid.

Then a sensuous, insidious evil threatens not only the show, but the very foundations of Meiers Corners. To fight it, Junior and Glynn must face the truth about themselves—and the true meaning of love and home.

There is an old saying in show business – the show must go on. Nowhere is that more true that when the folks in Meiers Corners decide to put on a stage play of the Wizard of Oz, and are beset with low audience turnout, repeated attempts to abduct the girl playing Dorothy, and sabotage of many sorts. Gunter Marie ‘Junior’ Steig believes this is her only chance to escape the boring life at home – if the show is a success, the next stop is New York City and a chance for more than the sausage shop. What Junior doesn’t know is that many of the residents of her little town are vampires…old, strong and powerful, and one of them wants Junior for his own. But Glynn Rhys-Jenkins knows about Junior’s dreams, and he places a high value on home, having lost his long ago. When the evil Chicago vampires up the stakes, Junior and Glynn and the rest of Meiers Corner residents fight back with everything they have. Can Junior and Glynn survive the sausage wars, the cheese rebellion and the vampire attacks to save the show? Will they be able to fight the attraction growing between them? Or will Junior learn, like Dorothy, that ‘there’s no place like home’?

Biting Oz is Mary Hughes’ latest Biting Love book, and one of the hottest so far. Her tiny town of Meiers Corners is a unique society, where ancient vampires and eccentric humans coexist in peace unless the evil Chicago vampires attack. The characters are all well-defined, and the conflicts are edge of your seat, fast paced and mostly unexpected when they come. I have become addicted to the Meiers Corners gang and all that they encompass, from Nixie and Elena to Julian, Glynn and even the mysterious Mr. Elias, seldom seen but all knowing.

Gunter Marie ‘Junior’ Steig is determined to make her move to the big city. She dreams of freedom and a life of her own, away from the sausage shop her family runs. She’s falling for Glynn, but feels if she gets close, she will lose her one shot at escape. I enjoyed watching as she falls under Glynn’s protection, and his affection, and slowly comes to realize that home is where the heart is, be it New York, Meiers Corners or even the cornfields of Iowa. She’s smart, talented and determined, and I loved watching as she discovered she could have her dreams and Glynn too.

Glynn is a centuries old vampire, and in all those years he has never found his one soul mate…until he meets Junior. He’s strong, sexy and sensitive to her desires, but finds it harder and harder to keep from claiming her as his and keeping her by his side. I like Glynn’s sense of loyalty and his generosity in trying to keep Junior safe and yet give her what she dreams of most: her freedom to be who she is.

There are two recurring threads here-the growing relationship between Junior and Glynn, and the repeated sabotage by the Chicago vampires and their minions. I enjoyed this for the unique humor Ms. Hughes brings to all of her Biting Love books, and of course the hot and steamy passion that erupts from the page every time Junior and Glynn come together. I also enjoyed watching as the town united against the ‘outsiders’ and saved not only the show, but the town as well. I recommend this for those who love a side of humor with their main course of romance.

The quickest way to love isn’t always a straight line.

This was supposed to be Xavier Moreau’s long-awaited vacation. A few precious weeks away from his over-scheduled career to see the America his mother loved and still make it to his best friend’s wedding in time. Instead, he’s ferrying the bridezilla’s sister to the nuptials. The luscious Jaime Cruz makes his mouth water, but her near-frenzy to get to Oregon now would scrape on his last nerve—if he didn’t sense that she needs the break as much as he does.

Fresh off a teaching assignment in D.C., Jaime’s white-knuckling it. She’s got only three weeks to get home, find a job and a place to live, and ensure her sister’s big day comes off without a hitch. Except Xavier tosses her three-days-or-bust itinerary out the window. Even more annoying, Jaime finds herself succumbing to his relentless determination to make sure she enjoys every minute of the trip. And falling under the spell of his sizzling touch.

Three weeks and three thousand miles later, Jaime’s feet are on home ground, but her heart is pulling her in a completely unexpected direction. Toward Xavier and a new journey that will require the ultimate leap of faith.

What happens when you cross an organized high school teacher who wants to drive across the country in three days with a Frenchman who wants to enjoy the sights in three weeks? The answer is an unforgettable ride full of sizzling hot, clashing sparks!!!

Jaime Cruz just finished teaching summer school and is all packed and ready to go when her car became another stolen car statistic. Since she was supposed to drive quickly from Washington, D.C., to Oregon to help her younger sister get ready for her wedding, she emailed her sister’s fiancé about her predicament. He arranged to have his best man, Xavier Moreau, give her a ride because he happened to be on the East Coast, on his way to Oregon also. Unbeknownst to everyone else, Xavier has a secret itinerary with many stops to be made along with a background that he wants to keep from everyone he meets.

Jaime is hard working, responsible, and always planning ahead. She’s had very few chances at love because she only dates guys who meet the criteria of potential marriageable material. Xavier at first appears to be an irresponsible playboy who grew up privileged, but after driving across the country with him, Jaime finds out he is so much more than who he appears to be. Xavier loves photography, appreciates architecture, works hard at his job, cares about his family, and is passionate about Jaime. The two of them argued and fought a lot because Xavier was bent on derailing Jaime’s plans, but eventually they were convinced they needed each other and worked on compromises. Still, the tug of war between them resulted in a roller coaster of emotions that took them through many states.

Whenever I read about places and scenery, I usually do a bit of skimming. However, with this story, I wanted to savor every moment and every description because I was enjoying Ms. Bayley-Burke’s writing so much. I felt that I was along for the ride through the countryside, enjoying all the sights, sounds, and smells. The vicarious experience of Jaime and Xavier falling in love despite both of them fighting against it was full of funny, exciting, and sexy moments. I enjoyed the trip across America and was sad when it had to come to an end.

It’s not often that I come across a book that makes me laugh, cry, and cheer. I picked this book because I happen to know a young couple who recently drove across country, fell in love, and are now engaged to be married. They actually experienced one thing similar to Jaime and Xavier’s trip (a hotel with a surprise). I put many, many bookmarks in this book of all my favorite scenes. I gave a happy sigh at the end and will definitely tuck this away on my “keeper” shelf. I will also put Ms. Bayley-Burke’s name on my list of authors to watch for. Run, don’t walk, to your nearest bookstore or computer and buy your copy of Drive Me Crazy! Get ready for a wonderful ride… I mean read!!!

Love…another swing and a miss? Not this time.

At thirty-five, baseball star Eric Fisher is washed up. He thought a vacation to his private island getaway would clear his head, help him accept the simple fact that his career is flagging. He was wrong.

In the middle of a solitary afternoon on the beach with a bucket of beer, a woman emerges from the ocean. She’s pretty, with a body built for the bikini she’s almost wearing. She smells like the giant fish she’s dragging through the sand. And she’s crying.

Caren McCabe is livid. Fish species are disappearing fast, no thanks to rich Hollywood types who buy up rare island habitats like St. Andres. Worse, her boat has just capsized, taking with it the bulk of her research—and any hope of getting tenure.

It takes a hurricane to bring them to speaking terms. As the winds howl, they have a meeting of minds and hearts neither of them anticipated. Just as things heat up, though, the full moon forces Caren to answer the sea’s siren call and assume her true form. A form that no mortal man must ever see…much less be allowed to love.

If there were two people that needed a chance at happiness, it would be the duo in this story, Eric Fisher and Caren. I love the play on Eric’s name. He’s a baseball star, but one who’s on the downward slope from stardom. They call him Fish. A bit fitting for this story, so it gave me a chuckle. Anyhow, Eric’s career is hanging in limbo, and he’s not sure of his next move. That’s when this raving man woman enters his life, and though they don’t get off on the right foot, Eric can’t help but try and make things a little better for Caren.

Caren’s a hot mess. She’s on the verge of finding the information she needs, when things take a turn for the worse. She ends up on the shore of some rich person’s private land and isn’t the least bit happy about it. Little did I know this woman came with secrets. Caren has a tendency to be all over the place, but for the most part, she’s all right.

Fish Out of Water is a mix of smoldering attraction from two people who aren’t sure what to make of each other, a secret that the reader knows but one of the characters doesn’t…somehow that just tightens up the tension for me as I wonder when the bombshell would be dropped and how someone would react. The biggest problem I had was the book ended abruptly. It didn’t seem like the perfect place to stop.

Overall, I liked the story. It kept me interested. Sometimes Caren got on my nerves, but it wasn’t enough to pull me out. It’s a contemporary with a bit of paranormal, featuring one of my favorite paranormal creatures. You may have already guessed what that is, but I won’t reveal that little tidbit here. I recommend giving this story a try.
