Randall Wise is the quintessential good guy. However, all of his friends are married and he’s still single. Rand is positive that good guys finish last at love and decides he needs to change if he’s ever going to find a woman of his own.

Brenna Thorne is a clutzy but cute would-be witch who moves in next door to Rand. Men always think of Brenna like a sister. They never see her as girlfriend or mate material. Brenna longs for a man of her own who sees her sexy side and all the love she has to give.

A little magic from Rand’s godparents, a familiar who isn’t a familiar, and a host of well-meaning but surprising friends help Rand and Brenna see that all you need to find your mate is a heart that is open to love.

Randall has always known that good guys finished last and now he has proof. Rand’s five best friends, none as nice as he, have all found their one true love and settled down in marital bliss, while he, the nice guy, is still single and lonely. Although it is his destiny as a Sabbath’s child to be a good guy, he decides to be a jerk, because he just has to find his mate. He knows that his mate is tied into his destiny, but he has no idea just how much. Brenna seems to be in the same boat as Randall. She is a cute and very good girl. She is also horny and desperate to find someone, but her best friends, Tyler and James, keep stopping her from acting unlike herself just to find someone to sleep with.

The Wise Guy has an intriguing plot, one that I would like to know much more about. I felt that this story may have been rushed just a bit and if it had been extended a little more, just to go into deeper detail, it would have been better. Lex Valentine did a good job with her characters and describing their surroundings quite well, it was the plot that seemed to suffer a little. Rand and Bren are both likeable characters, just your simple nice people, except with magic. When they meet, the attraction and passion that they both feel is explosive and really brings out their naughty side. At times, the dialogue seemed to become a bit unrealistic, but it flowed together nicely.

I would imagine that this book would be great as a series, so that the author would have an opportunity to expand on her plot and the mysteries of witches and mages. Her secondary characters alone would do well as leading characters in other books, because each character in this book was interesting and has a story to tell.

Fifth grade English teacher, Kendra Wright, doesn’t believe in instant love. In fact, at twenty-nine, she’s all but given up hope of ever finding love, period. That is, until she meets the new principal, Valerian Riche.

He may be stunning, gentlemanly and honorable, but falling for the man is the last thing on Kendra’s agenda. But when Val makes the first move, Kendra’s life as the youngest spinster to ever grace the pages of history is turned upside-down.

She’s longed to be treated like the lady she knows she is, but technically, is not. But if the truth comes out, it will destroy her career and end the wildest romantic ride she’s ever known.

Kendra must end the relationship before she’s in too deep. Before the truth is revealed. But, how does a lady say no to the charm-charged wiles of a man as determined, and eager, as Val Riche? While she anticipates the horror of breaking the news, he persists on making her decision as difficult as possible. Maybe Val should’ve checked Kendra’s package before he unchecked his heart.

Kendra’s given up on men, then she meets Val. The sexy new principle of their school refuses to let Kendra run away from her feelings and their relationship. When he forces her to confront her deepest fears, he shows her that they really are meant to be together.

In the twist on this rather classic romance tale, Kendra is a woman with a little something extra. A woman born in a man’s body, she knew early on which gender she was – regardless that she has a penis. But not having the perfect body of a woman has kept Kendra from dating. Her fear of rejection causes her to lash out and treat Val horribly. She can’t believe that he could possibly want her, need her and love her so her response is to consistently sabotage their budding relationship and then run away. To lessen the danger make sure you keep away from the reach of levitra free children and pets. It was included as a control for effects created by the aircraft canadian online viagra rather than the altitude. They viagra 100mg pills http://deeprootsmag.org/2014/02/14/matt-monro-love-tears-valentines-day/ are paying for the advertising of the medication. This subject is very embarrassing for a lot of people need this viagra sale cheap medicine get it today . This fear of intimacy and emotion is an important aspect of Kendra’s personality as she seeks the very thing she fears. The author affords an honest characterization of actions and personality traits that will not always resonate in a positive way to the reader.

Kendra has hints of a sympathetic character, yet it’s difficult to like such a polarizing personality, even if it’s a genuine depiction. Her fear and anger cause her to spend a considerable amount of time ensuring no one will want to be with her, regardless of her body. I certainly understood why Val should leave her alone on numerous occasions, but at the same time I felt bad for Kendra being her own worst enemy. She’s always running off to bathrooms and seems to fall down quite a bit, leaving these characteristics as part of her sullen attitude rather than charming quirks. It’s difficult to understand Val’s persistent attraction to Kendra until near the end, but the hope exists that she may calm down with his consistent affections.

Val is not very well defined in that his emotions swing repeatedly and he lacks any real depth as a character. He’s mostly the perfect gentleman, never remarking on Kendra’s wild behavior and even going so far as to accept her almost abusive office sex. Why within the span of a week, he is in love with her and wants to marry her is a mystery considering Kendra spends much of the week actively working to have him dislike her. However, considering the context of Kendra’s emotional difficulties and the ending information about Val’s proclivities, the relationship begins to make more sense. I just wish the author hadn’t waited until the near end of the story to add this much needed depth and information to the at times chaotic mix of emotion and action.

There were positive aspects to the book in that the supporting characters of Kendra’s friends were well drawn, if not always likable. Additionally, both Kendra and Val are complex characters that show the mercurial nature of someone with a bipolar personality and thus swings from likeable to dislikeable but in an entirely realistic portrayal. The author definitely shows potential in her writing and characters, but the subject matter may limit her audience. Few books are able to look at the complex problems surrounding MtF transgenders with a realistic and untainted view, unafraid of the reader not being able to connect and relate to the characters. While this wasn’t a book I entirely enjoyed, I didn’t hate it and for those who are looking for an m/m twist on the classic office romance theme, this may fill that for you. If nothing else, this is an interesting and honest look at the problems and emotions surrounding an often ignored group of people.

Review: Dark Whispers

Dark Whispers
by Barbara Sheridan & Anne Cain

Mired in centuries-old customs and rigid traditions carried over from their mortal lives, the chaing-shih elders of New York’s Chinatown don’t quite know how to deal with the upstart Russian vampire, Mistress Viktoria. With their existence in danger, the Elders call upon an ancient blood tie and summon the aid of their kinsman, Liu Sakurai.

Though he appears to the world as a sensual young man in his mid-twenties, Sakurai is one of the oldest and most powerful chaing-shih to walk the Earth. He sees humans as not much more than weak playthings and food, and no one is more surprised than Sakurai himself when NYPD Detective Daisuke Matsui manages to capture his attention. Dai is a strong one, full of an inner fire and unusual sexual appetites that Sakurai cannot resist.

In the mysterious and arrogant vampire, Dai finds the type of person he’s been longing for his entire life – someone with a strength of will and determination that matches his own, and a skill to dominate him in ways that make him burn. While trying to unwind the ties his half-brother has to Chinatown’s underworld, Dai is confronted by creatures and events he thought only existed in the legends and stories told by old men. His life is on the line, along with everything he holds dear, but Sakurai dark whispers promise a passion Dai is powerless to resist.

Grab onto your seats and hang on for a dark, fast ride that doesn’t leave you wanting! This is an extraordinary offering from the dynamic duo of Barbara Sheridan and Anne Cain. If you haven’t read their work before, and I admit this is my first, then you are really missing out! As of right now, I’m desperately trying to get my hands on the previous books in this series (have I mentioned how much I love my “job”?), apparently there are quite a few! Despite the fact that this is the latest installment in the Dragon’s Disciple series, Dark Whispers is an amazing stand-alone novel that tests your boundaries.

Fair warning, this is not an “easy” book to read. There are a few scenes that may hit your ICK trigger, most notably an interesting sampling of bodily fluids. That’s all I’ll tell you, but they helped me to understand certain desires and motivations of the main characters. Sheridan and Cain delve into extremely dark desires and a complicated, shadowy world, but they do it with such skill you can’t help but be swept along in the sensual tide. They keep you guessing as to who’s truly good and who’s irredeemably evil, and the twists and turns along the way make for an intense tale of suspense.

When first I met Sakurai… I didn’t like him! I thought he was hot, but I didn’t like him. I thought he was fascinating, but I didn’t like him. I kept wondering how in the world he was going to be Dai’s love interest. I mean, as a vampire he didn’t even think humans were much more than pets, or cattle, how could he come to love one? How in the world can he redeem himself? Here is where the amazing talent of Ms. Sheridan and Ms. Cain come into play. What exactly is Sildenafil? levitra viagra baratas This medication, more scientifically referred to as corpora Cavernosa as well as corpora spongiosa are full of blood. Through studies made by researchers, chiropractic approaches have been proven effective to relieve pain as well as to continue online cialis prescription the ability of men in sexual execution. Other therapies for erection problems: Your physician may advise you cost of viagra a course of histamine-blocking agent for a few weeks. Every couple shares the highs and lows during their relationship and levitra 60 mg deeprootsmag.org some of them are made of Sildenafil citrate. As Sakurai spends more time in Dai’s presence, he slowly starts to come around, and his “humanity” begins to assert itself. The fact that he is vastly disgusted with himself and the feelings he has for Dai is actually quite humorous. His internal dialogue is not only self-deprecating, it surprised a snicker from me on more than one occasion. When his long forgotten honor begins to make demands of his conscience, Sakurai is helpless to fight against their ever increasing demands. I found myself fascinated by him and his internal struggle and even rooting for him to find his own Happy-Ever-After.

Dai was interesting, and complex. His past hurts and misdeeds give him a depth that made me want to hug him, and love him, and stroke him… *sigh*… sorry, got lost for a minute there. He had such dark, repressed desires that he wasn’t sure how to deal with them, so he doesn’t. When all else fails… deny the feelings even exist! It seemed to have worked just fine, at least as far as he’s concerned, until a dark stranger invades every aspect of his life… even his dreams. As if his life wasn’t complicated enough with his job hitting the skids and his half-brother’s questionable associates in Chinatown, now he has disturbing feelings for a shadowy and complicated man. His wry and caustic sense of humor was the perfect compliment for Sakurai’s own disconcerting humor and made it so I found him incredibly appealing, and so, apparently, did Sakurai. As Dai unravels the mystery behind the strange and violent happenings in Chinatown, he is forced to come to terms with his own sexuality and his much deeper feelings for Sakurai.

This book was a journey of redemption and discovery for two men who were more than ready for love to find them… whether they wanted to admit it or not! I can’t really say that I “enjoyed” this book… I was compelled to read it, it captured me, I couldn’t put it down, I loved it, I want more! If you love male/male books, and like to walk on the dark side than this is a must for you! I look forward to future offerings from Ms. Sheridan and Ms. Cain, and can’t wait to get my hands on their previous books! Definitely worthy of 5 cherries!
