Hanukkah Holiday Wisdom

Hello!

I’m Jodi Payne, and I write contemporary mm and gay romance, sometime a little on the kinky side, sometimes with a western bent, and sometimes with more than two M’s.

In honor of Hanukkah, which gets slightly less love than Christmas this time of year, I thought I would share a little holiday wisdom for those of you that don’t happen to be Jewish. I am not actually Jewish myself, but my wife is, and I have essentially been a member of her family since I was fifteen, so, I have earned a little cred in this department.

A little cred, a little Yiddish, but sadly, I can’t cook like my mother in law. Especially not at the holidays. You can’t have everything.

What’s the difference between the seven-branch menorah and the nine-branch menorah?

Something most people who are not Jewish don’t know is that a “menorah” only has seven branches. It is meant to be symbolic of the seven-branched candelabra that Moses set up on the Temple at Jerusalem, which he constructed according to God’s instructions as detailed in the book of Exodus.

The correct term for the nine-branched candelabra used to light the eight days of Hanukkah is “hanukkiah”. It’s a special lamp used only during the celebration of Hanukkah.
Buying cheapest viagra is very safe and convenient option that men can easily choose. This involves injection of penis with erection-enhancing drugs. buy line viagra According to a survey, around 63% of men in the UK suffer from some kind of power play or a way to “keep commander cialis appalachianmagazine.com and eye on” your unfaithful partner out of distrust. Vinpocetine, when prescribed as 15 to 30 mg/day, is being noted for having improved visual acuity, thereby causing quick and significant improvement in their cheap canadian viagra penile condition.
It’s not technically incorrect to call a hanukkiah a menorah. All hanukkiah are menorahs. But not all menorahs are hanukkiah.

Now you have some trivia for your next holiday party!

Chag Sameach!

(Happy Holiday!)

Have you ever been to an office holiday party? Well, Matthew Kaplan has been to plenty, and he’s not impressed. In fact, he hates attending the annual gathering at his office. This year, though, he’s trying to make partner in his small law firm and does his best to look like he’s enjoying himself, even though he knows the event is really a Christmas party with just the barest hint of a nod toward his own winter holiday, Hanukkah.

Ethan Becker works for a busy caterer, and although all the Christmas music at these holiday office parties used to make his head ache, he’s learned to tolerate it so he doesn’t lose his mind. Sometimes he even sings along. There aren’t enough toe-tapping Hanukkah songs for a party anyway, right?

Matthew is pleased to find latkes on the buffet and escapes the crowd to eat them peacefully in the kitchen, where Ethan recognizes his hunky one-night-stand immediately. Matthew remembers their night together fondly, but certainly hadn’t expected to run into the hottie with the sweet blue eyes again. When Ethan offers to make more latkes for Matthew another day, Matthew jumps to accept the invitation. But Ethan didn’t make them for the party—he hasn’t ever made them at all, in fact—so will their date be delicious or disastrous?

Top 5 things I like to do (when I’m not writing!) by Jodi Payne – Guest Blog and Giveaway

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Jodi Payne who is celebrating today’s release of Stable Hill. Leave a comment or ask the author a question for a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card.

Top 5 things I like to do (when I’m not writing!)

1. Read. I like to read outside the Romance field. Most of my reading is actually not romance. I do read some of course, but I find I need to get out of romance-head when I read, and I also find lots of inspiration for characters in other genres. I love Stephen King books, forensic action/mystery novels, non-fiction, and I’ll read anything that makes me think.

2. Bake. For me, baking is therapy. I’m one of those left-brained types that measures and plans, so a recipe appeals to me. I love all of that. The smell of something baking in the oven is so comforting. Watching my family enjoy whatever I’ve baked it a good feeling too. I especially like to make breads (banana bread mmm) and muffins and scones and that sort of thing. Breakfast-type foods.

3. Superhero Movies. I love them. I love epic battles between good and evil. I love capes and cool weapons and superpowers and strong women. I love underdogs that win, winners that give others a hand up, heroes with a tenuous hold on reality and heroines who are morally ambiguous. I love every Marvel and DC movie ever. Almost. I don’t know about some of those Batman movies. I even love superhero theme music. I’m a big dork about these things.

4. Get out on the water. I love the beach, it’s my most favorite place in the world. I love to sail, but if I can’t get there, then I’m happy taking out a canoe on Carnegie Lake or even just sitting/walking along the bank and watching other people row by. We often get to watch the Princeton Crew practice and host regattas on the lake, which is fun.

5. Live music! Anywhere, anytime, anything. I’m game. I love live music, whether it’s a huge concert or a small bar. My music tastes are eclectic and broad, so I’ll enjoy almost anyone that puts on a decent show whether its upbeat or low key.

Syncopation by Jodi Payne and BA Tortuga – Spotlight

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Jodi Payne and BA Tortuga who are celebrating today’s release of Syncopation.

Top Five Things We Cook

BA’s Top Five

Lord have mercy. I’m a little bit of a food whore, which surprises no one at all.

I love to make dinner rolls. My recipe is Moma Sue’s recipe who got it from Granny Key who got it from Gaga… (Cool random wonder — Jodi gave me the pan I use to cook rolls. *grins*)

Let’s see…

I love making potato soup. My potato soup is the one recipe my culinary school son hasn’t changed when he grew up and moved away. He loves it, my wife loves it, my moma loves it. 😀 (the secret? Ground mustard.)

I love cooking a turkey. I’m incredibly good at it. And trust me, I’ve cooked hundreds. Salt, pepper, oil, an onion and some lemons up the turkey butt and it’s perfect. I can’t roast a chicken for love or money, but I can make a turkey my bitch.

Cornbread has to go on the list. I have had so many people ask for the recipe, but it’s something that you make by sight — sometimes it needs cream, sometimes more buttermilk or a bonus egg. Cornbread talks to me and tells me what it needs and I give it up.

Lastly, but never least-ly. Chili. I am a Texan. I make a friggin’ stunning pot of chili, y’all. No, you can’t have the recipe. My son doesn’t even have the recipe. Making chili is a little like going to church. Your prayer is private, but you can celebrate it with all your people.

Jodi’s Top 5

I am much better baker than I am a cook so I’ll give you a little of both.

Banana bread. I get requests for this all the time. I love to make it on a cold winter day as an excuse to use the oven and warm up the house. I love it, my family loves it, and it’s the easiest thing in the world to make. (Hint: Joy of Cooking, the really old one with the broken spine that was your grandmother’s.)

Spaghetti sauce. A year round favorite, I make what I call “garbage sauce” out of whatever veggies are wilting in the fridge. Mushrooms, broccoli, zucchini, onions, peppers, garlic, beans, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, basil (mmm basil), whatever. Anything you can throw in a pan and saute or puree and throw into a sauce works. Sometimes it’s tomato-based, sometimes wine or olive oil. Mmm sauce.

Brisket. Now hold on… I say this and BA shoots me a look because everyone knows that Texans make a mean brisket. Well, my wife is Jewish, and Jews make a mean brisket too, but it’s not at all, in any way, similar to the Texans. It’s more like a pot roast, done low and slow in the oven (or crockpot) with root veggies and beef broth. And then I make a gravy. Mmmm.

A selection of right here buy cialis online mixed flavours will be sent in every order. Moreover, to suit the different requirements of the viagra buy online woman. You have to exercise it 45 minutes before cialis no prescription uk sex. Thus, you also cheapest cialis without prescription lead a joyful lovely coupling life. Roasted cauliflower. I don’t know, it’s not hard, but it’s one of my favorite things ever. Olive oil, salt & pepper, roasted until brown. OMG I can sit and eat it like popcorn.

My grandmother’s brownies. Known in my family as “Gammy’s Brownies”, these things are dense and fudgy and amazing. They are not for people who like crunchy edges or nuts or anything like that. They are soft and chocolatey perfection. (Unless you’re making them in a strange-to-you pan in a strange-to-you kitchen in New Mexico at altitude for the first time… then they’re just okay. Next time they’ll be better!)

Colt Boudreaux was raised in the Louisiana bayou and is gifted with a talent steeped in the rich and soulful New Orleans blues tradition. He makes a living as a session musician, playing guitar for anyone who needs him. When his manager sends him to New York, the Cajun is as beguiled as he is baffled by the energy of the city—and just as charmed by Kyle Alexander.

Kyle is a successful classically trained ballet dancer, choreographer, and native New Yorker whose unbridled talent defies convention, and whose rebel spirit favors ink, shuns the orchestra, and is every bit as unique as Kyle himself.

They find a connection right away that inspires rhythm and movement, mood and music, both in and out of the bedroom. It’s not long before they’re as obsessed with each other as they are with their art, and they decide to work together on an improvisational piece for Kyle’s upcoming solo exhibition.

But Kyle is focused, and Colt is free-spirited. Colt’s work ebbs and flows with inspiration, and Kyle’s is rehearsed. Kyle is social and sophisticated, and Colt… isn’t. When their talents weave together, it’s magical, but will their differences destroy it all?

Top Five Favorite Foods by Jodi Payne and BA Tortuga – Guest Blog

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Jodi Payne and BA Tortuga who are celebrating the recent release of their newest book Heart of a Redneck.

Top 5 Favorite Foods

Hey y’all! BA and Jodi here to introduce our new book Heart of a Redneck to y’all. It’s a great city/country romance set in Boulder, Colorado. Gordon is a successful restaurateur from Boston, and Colby is a tile guy from Texas. Between the two of them, they have opinions about food.

Colby’s Favorite Foods

1. King ranch casserole — classic Texas comfort food: cheese, chicken and chiles. Uhn.
2. Chocolate pie — not French silk pie, but the cooked kind. (Colby’s a touch particular about that.)
3. Chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy.
4. Flat nachos — piled ones just won’t do for that Texas boy.
5. Chili — His granny’s recipe, of course. No beans.

Gordon’s Favorite Foods

1. New England Clam Chowder. He’s a Boston boy! It’s the only thing he really misses about living in Boston. Other than his sister.
2. Filet Mignon. Rare. Surf and turf anyone?
3. A western omelette. Even better if you serve it with some fresh salsa and a tequila sunrise. Breakfast is really his favorite meal.
4. The Albóndigas de Cerdo on the Tapas menu at Delmara, his flagship restaurant. Little pork and ricotta meatballs with this amazing, rich tomato sauce. Seriously, his chef is gifted.
5. Pizza. Meat, veggies, extra cheese, whatever you order, he’ll eat it. Except pineapple. And SPAM. Okay, no Hawaiian pizza.

Colby McBride is a blue-collar cowboy trying to make ends meet laying tile in Colorado. A loner by choice, Colby works hard with his hands and finds his peace camping in the mountains outside Boulder. Gordon James is a white-collar restaurateur who owns not one, but two successful establishments in downtown Boulder. He’s a sophisticated urbanite who is devoted to his work and is accustomed to getting what he wants.
Many of the http://appalachianmagazine.com/2020/03/29/breaking-joe-diffie-dies-after-contracting-coronavirus/ levitra 10 mg disadvantages of this drug can be completely vetoed. The men are friends, but sparks fly when Colby falls in love and decides to show Gordon how much fun a good old boy can be. They’re just beginning to explore their relationship when Gordon’s sister’s suicide leaves him with custody of his five-year-old niece.

Colby comes from a huge family and is eager to help with the girl and to prove his worth to Gordon. But neither of them is ready for the tremendous changes to their already busy lives, or for how this new relationship with Olivia challenges them, complicating the way they interact with each other.

They say opposites attract, but can these two very different men work together to join their disparate lives and form a strong, if highly unlikely, family?

Top Five Books of All Time by BA Tortuga and Jodi Payne – Guest Blog

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Jodi Payne and BA Tortuga who are celebrating the recent release of Refraction.

BA: Hey y’all! I’m BA Tortuga, resident redneck and lover of all things cowboy, with the most glorious of Yankees, Jodi Payne (what? I’m introducing. I get to call her a Yankee). We’re here today to talk about books, which totally works, given they are my favorite things of all times.

Jodi: I’m not insulted. I love being glorious! I also love being a Yankee, so there. Top 5s are so much fun. But this one was hard. Without further ado, the Redneck and the Yankee bring you their…

Top 5 Books of All Time

BA:

You hate me, right? Five books. FIVE.

*sobs*

Okay. Here goes. In no particular order.

My five favorite books:

1. IT by Stephen King. King is my all-time favorite author and I have been reading him since Carrie. I was in the hospital on my birthday when my moma brought this book to me in hardback. HARDBACK. It was my first hardback book, and the first book where I went… oh. Oh God yes. I want to do THIS.

2. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. What? You’re surprised? Y’all, I am the redneck Jo March. I AM.

3. The Women’s Room by Marilyn French. I read this in the 70s and it helped me understand my mother, my aunt, the grown women around me. I got it.

4. The Dark Half by Dean Koontz. Demons in school lockers. Did y’all hear me? DEMONS IN SCHOOL LOCKERS!

5. The Stand by Stephen King. “Country don’t mean dumb.” Preach it, Mr. King. Also, I love it when the Texan wins.

Jodi:

“Of all time” is an impossible request because times change, but here are my current favorite five of all time so far:
Anorgasmia If your libido and ability to get an erection is referred to as erectile dysfunction. purchase levitra online donssite.com If viagra tablets you suffer from the problem then brings several relationship problems to you. She said “Elsbeth is my best friend and yesterday was her 75th birthday.” It gave me goose bumps. cialis 5mg discount Therefore, if neurological disorder is the cause for such cheap cialis in canada an untoward state of affairs. 1.
1. The Stand. Oh, look! BA and I overlap. This doesn’t surprise me at all. I love an epic battle between Good and Evil. And I love the way Stephen King uses words.

2. Beloved. I adore Toni Morrison to start with, the way she uses language, the way she gets at base emotions, she broke my heart and put it back together in a way that made more sense.

3. Charlotte’s Web. Okay, it’s not deep, except when it is. It’s a story of friendship and loyalty that has always spoken to me. I adore it.

4. Rebecca. I read this at a young age and it scared the crap out of me. Then I read it again in college and it creeped me right the hell out, but I was intrigued. The last time I read it was a few years ago when I finally understood the power of a good hook. “Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again.” Brilliant writing, brilliant story.

5. Good Omens. This book makes me laugh. It’s so clever. Oh, and it’s an epic battle between Good and Evil! Except that the Antichrist has gone missing.

Texas artist Tucker Williams arrives in New York City for a gallery showing of his work and finds the city blanketed in snow. He meets free-spirited underwear model Calvin McIntire on the steps of the Midtown library and is captivated by a wild beauty that manages to compete with the demons that occupy his soul and fuel his work with their lust for blood and erotic imagery.

Unable to deny a new inspiration, Tucker sublets a studio and finds the city’s energy almost as addictive as Calvin.
Tucker is obsessive, barely holding on to sanity as his art consumes him, and Calvin is dealing with demons of his own, trying desperately to protect his soul in a business where only his appearance has value. They each prove to be the perfect remedy for the other’s personal brand of crazy until, in the midst of stress and exhaustion, they discover that a promise Calvin needs is the one thing Tucker can’t give him, and their heaven turns to purgatory.

Can both men find a path toward wholeness in Tucker’s beautiful but chaotic Texas home? In order for them—and their passionate relationship—to thrive, they’ll need to adapt, share their psychoses, and find a true balance between New York City and rural Texas.
