Top Ten Tuesday: Our Recent 5-Star Reads

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

For this week’s freebie topic, I’ve decided to highlight the books that the reviewers here at Long and Short Reviews have recently given five stars.

We don’t rate books that highly very often, so kudos to all of the authors who have earned this honor!

I included their genre or genres in parentheses as well.

This post was written a few weeks in advance, but I gathered up as many recent examples as I could find in our queue.

1. The Excitements by CJ Wray (Fiction)

2. Slaughterhouse by K.A. Lugo (Suspense/Mystery)

3. The Fog Ladies: Date with Death by Susan McCormick (Mystery)

4. Sally Mitts Finds a Home: The Story of a Shy Shelter Kitten by Shain Stodt (Children’s)

5. Dreams of Drowning by Patricia Averbach (Mystery, Paranormal)

6. All Rhodes Lead to Here by Mariana Zapata (Romance)

7. The Devil and Mrs. Davenport by Paulette Kennedy (Mystery, Paranormal)

8. Dogboy vs. Catfish by Luke Gracias (Mystery)

9. The Perfectly Fine Neighborhood edited by Kayleigh Dobbs, Stephen Kozeniewski, and Wile E. Young (Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Horror)

10. Embracing Amelia by Elaine Violette (Historical Romance)

For the fellow reviewers reading this post, how often do you give out five star ratings in your reviews?

Comments

  1. I’ve heard good things about Mariana’s novels but haven’t ever read any. It’s always fun to find a read worth five stars. 🙂

  2. The Perfectly Fine Neighborhood sounds interesting with that genre pairing!

  3. The Perfectly Fine Neighborhood sounds interesting but not something I’d ever have picked up on my own. I might now!

  4. The only book on here I’ve read is THE DEVIL AND MRS. DAVENPORT, which I also adored and gave 5 stars!

  5. Dreams of Drowning sounds intriguing. I haven’t heard of any of these books but I’m so glad you’ve read so many great books recently!

  6. These sound good.

Some months I have three or four 5 stars, other months not as many. I think I’m generally easily pleased 😂

    Have a great week!

  7. My true 5-stars are pretty are – I’m a bit stingy with those, it’s got to be something really different and incredible and amazing that elicits a really strong emotional reaction. I do give out quite a lot of 4.5s tho!

  8. Wow, I love seeing so many 5 star reads!! 🙂

  9. I love Mariana Zapata but haven’t got to All Rhodes yet! I need to move it up higher on my TBR!

  10. I love the variety of genres 🙂 looks like a good year

  11. I’ve heard good things about THE DEVIL AND MRS. DAVENPORT. I need to read it already!

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  12. I’ve only read All Rhodes Lead Here but it was a five-star read for me as well!

  13. I’ve seen a few posts about The Devil and Mrs. Davenport lately. I’m starting to think I might need to give it a try!

  14. I did enjoy All Rhodes Lead Here but it wasn’t my favorite of Zapatas. Great choices this week!

  15. It’s always a wonderful feeling when you find a 5 star read, especially when you don’t find them often. I tend to gravitate towards books that I rate highly, so I read a lot of books that I rate 4-5 stars.
