  1. I loved James Herriot’s books when I was a kid, my dad used to read them to me.

  3. I’ve read a couple of these, but my favorite dog book is MARLEY & ME. I’m really not a pet person, so I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

    Happy TTT!

Is Marley and Me sad though? I have a hard time with books where something sad happens to the dog.

Thank you for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  4. I love James Herriot’s stories! Especially the ones turned into children’s books, like Only One Woof. And The Incredible Journey was one of my favorite middle-grade books. Kipper is adorable, though I know him better from the animated children’s tv series (back when my offspring was young enough to enjoy them.)

Can I suggest a few you might enjoy? Floss, by Kim Lewis, is simply lovely. The Snow Lambs, by Debi Gliori, has a brave sheepdog. And The Hundred and One Dalmations, by Dodie Smith is charming (it’s the original book on which the movies were based.)

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll definitely look them up. I’d especially like to read 101 Dalmations. How does it compare to the movie?

I’ve read Only One Woof and loved it! It was in a collection of stories in a book my kids have. I’ve seen the Kipper tv show as well. It is really cute.

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  5. Such a cute list! A Bear Ate Your Sandwich looks wonderful! Have you ever heard of the Henry and Mudge books? I think from your list that you’d really like them too!

    • Poinsettia says

Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed my list. I’ll check out the Henry and Mudge books since I have a young reader who loves animals.

Thank you for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  6. Love your topic! I have a black lab named Maxie. I wasn’t a dog person before, but she adopted me, and she definitely has me wrapped around her paws!

    • Poinsettia says

How sweet! I love dogs and can’t imagine my life without them.

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  7. Gosh I remember the Kipper books!

  8. Such good ones here. I love any book featuring a dog. I loved the movie Homeward Bound: An Incredible Journey growing up.

    • Poinsettia says

I love Homeward Bound too! My kids love it as well. I must admit I still get a little choked up at the end though!

Thanks for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  9. Kipper! I loved the show. We even named our cat Kipper (I know, Kipper’s a dog, but… we liked the name :))

  10. So many dog stories. I’m not that surprised but some of your covers are just too cute. I remember Kipper, my sons looooooved him. My favourite cover is “The Bear Ate Your Sandwich”. That look!

Thanks for visiting my TTT earlier.

    • Poinsettia says

The Bear Ate Your Sandwich is so much fun! My kids love Kipper too.

Thanks for visiting and commenting. 🙂

      • My kids have outgrown picture books decades ago but I am always tempted to buy good new ones. One day I might have grandkids. LOL

        • Poinsettia says

My oldest has outgrown them, but my youngest still likes them. I had forgotten how much I loved picture books until I had kids. I’ve had so much fun reading them, and now I don’t think I’ll stop reading them! I am putting a collection together of the really good ones that I’ll save for when I have grandkids. 🙂

          • We still have tons in the house that my kids didn’t want to get rid of but there are so many nice new ones. And I know both my boys will want to read to their children one day, so it doesn’t matter.
I always think I might have loved picture books so much because I didn’t have any when I was little.

  11. Great list – no Tiger Who Came to Tea though?? Or Mog the Forgetful Cat – I considered doing my daughter’s books but chose not to – except for Podkin!

    • Poinsettia says

Both of those books sound really cute! I’ll have to look them up.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. 🙂

  12. I haven’t read any of these, but any dog story has to be a good story! (Also I love that you have a whole doggie family. Our Golden Retriever is the heart of ours for sure!)

    • Poinsettia says

Yes, I love stories with dogs, as long as they aren’t sad. I can’t handle bad things happening to dogs! Dogs are definitely an excellent addition to a family. 🙂

Thanks for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  13. The Kipper books are lovely! ?

  14. Those look like fun book choices! I’m sure my little guy would enjoy several of those titles. ?

    • Poinsettia says

If you read them, you’ll have to let me know if he enjoyed them!

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. 🙂

  15. I love dogs too so your post made me smile. 🙂

  16. Aaaw all the pretty dogs <3

  17. So many wonderful doggo books! I’m really curious about The Bear Ate Your Sandwich! Dream Dog has such a pretty cover, too!

    • Poinsettia says

Both of those are great. You’ll have to let me know what you think if you decide to check them out!

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  18. I’ve always been more of a cat person, but I did have dogs growing up, and like most kids, I loved seeing them in books!

I had no idea there was a dog in the “If You Give” series! I only know the mouse, pig and moose. Interesting! Because of Winn-Dixie will always be very special to me, and the Kipper books were so cute!

    • Poinsettia says

Did you know there is a cat in the “If You Give” series too? Since you like cats, you might want to check that one out.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. 🙂
