Top Ten Tuesday: Books to Take to the Beach

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday!  This week is all about books to take to the beach.  My family had the opportunity to vacation at the ocean recently, and these are the books we brought with us.  I don’t have a particular theme.  I just picked up books I was in the mood for at the moment.

Fire Touched (Mercy Thompson #9) by Patricia Briggs-This is one of my favorite series!  I can’t wait to read the next book, Silence Fallen.

Stalking Jack the Ripper (Stalking Jack the Ripper #1) by Kerri Maniscalco-I finally picked up a copy of this book.  Now I need to find time to read it!

Jane Austen’s England: Daily Life in the Georgian and Regency Periods by Roy and Lesley Adkins-I enjoy reading nonfiction  occasionally.  This isn’t a book I read straight through.  I’ve enjoyed picking it up and reading a chapter occasionally.

A Legacy of Love and Murder (The Love and Murder Series Book 3) by Brenda Whiteside-I’m currently reading this for review.  I’m enjoying it so far.

Scottish Folk Tales by Geddes and Grosset-This one didn’t actually make it in to my suitcase, but I hope to start reading it soon.

The Sherlock Holmes Puzzle Collection by Tim Dedopulos-My husband likes working through the logic problems in this book.

Here are a few books my children brought.

The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka-I loved this book as a child, and now my children love it too.

Big Bad Bubble by Adam Rubin-Such a fun, silly book!

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein-Always entertaining!

Have you read any of these?  If so, what did you think?  Would you take any of these books to the beach?

  6. So many interesting books on that list. 🙂

  7. I love your top ten! Seems diverse but lovely for summer reading. I’ve had Stalking Jack the Ripper for a while now. I need to find the time to read that one as well!

    My list: TTT

  8. Jane Austen’s England sounds like an interesting read! I’m the similar with non-fiction reading habits; it isn’t often that I read a non-fiction book all the way though almost without break (like I often do with fiction), but I definitely still enjoy picking up non-fiction stuff occaisionally.

    • Poinsettia says

I think reading most non-fiction like that is a good approach, especially for books like the one I mentioned where each chapter focuses on something specific. I can pick it up whenever and not feel lost.

  9. Jane Austen’s England sounds like an interesting read! I’m the similar with non-fiction reading habits; it isn’t often that I read a non-fiction book all the way though almost without break (like I often do with fiction), but I definitely still enjoy picking up non-fiction stuff occasionally.

  10. What a fun idea to take Where the Sidewalk Ends!

  11. I am feeling sorry for the book in the photo wondering if it will every be possible to get all the sand out of its binding. Ha! Thanks for stopping by.

    • Poinsettia says

I agree! I think it makes a lovely photo, but I would NEVER do that to one of my own books.

You’re welcome and thanks for commenting. 🙂

  12. Where the Sidewalk Ends….what a good choice!
We just went to the beach too and I had a random smattering of books with no real theme! Just whatever was on my TBR and I could find at the library!

  15. Jane Austen’s England sounds so interesting! I’ve lived in Bath for a while, which is a city very much obsessed with her, so I’d love to read more about what life was actually like while she was around.

    • Poinsettia says

I’m enjoying it so far. I’ll admit it can be a bit slow at times, but since I’m not trying to read it all at once, I just put it down when I need to. If you enjoy nonfiction books about everyday life in other time periods, I also recommend Ruth Goodman’s How to be Victorian. I loved it!

      Thanks for visiting!

  17. I LOVED Stalking Jack The Ripper! Hope you’ll enjoy!

  21. Jane Austen’s England seems like it would be really interesting. I love books that shed light on the “daily life” of time periods like that! And Stalking Jack The Ripper and Mercy Thompson both sound like good poolside or waterside reads. 🙂

    • Poinsettia says

If you like “daily life” time period books, I highly recommend How to Be Victorian by Ruth Goodman. It is excellent!

  22. I’ve heard great things about Stalking Jack the Ripper!

  23. Great list! Stalking Jack the Ripper has been languishing in my TBR pile for a while now. I need to find the time to read it because it sounds amazing!

I don’t see my first two attempts at commenting up here, but I apologize if you’ve been getting them and I some how have missed it. I just wanted to make sure you have my comment since you were so nice to visit my TTT. 🙂

  31. Ohhhh, I need to have a look at Stalking Jack the Ripper. I’m always searching for books involving him

    • Poinsettia says

I’ve heard really good things about it, so I really need to find time to read it.

      Thanks for commenting. 🙂

  32. I read part of STALKING JACK THE RIPPER at the beach 2 years ago and thought it was a fab beach book!! I like reading mysteries at the beach though. WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS will always hold a special place in my heart. I still have all the words to “SICK” memorized.

    • Poinsettia says

I’m glad you enjoyed Stalking Jack the Ripper. I’ve heard really good things about it, so I need to find time to finally read it.

Shel Silverstein is so much fun!

Thanks for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  33. I loved Stalking Jack the Ripper – though, the mystery was pretty easy to guess, the characters and the romance made up for that. Good luck on your reading 🙂

  34. I loved The True Story of the Three Little Pigs when I was a kid. Your post brought back really fond memories. I need to snag that for my nephews. They would think it’s a riot!

    • Poinsettia says

I’m so glad you enjoyed my list! I hope your nephews enjoy The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. 🙂

  35. Stalking Jack the Ripper was an interesting one.

    • Poinsettia says

I’m looking forward to reading it. I’ve heard great things about it.

      Thank you for visiting!

  36. I really enjoyed Stalking Jack the Ripper, but I didn’t really feel the romance. People told me it’s supposed to be better in Hunting Prince Dracula though, so we’ll have to see about that one, haha. Happy reading!

  37. ooo! I really want to read Kerri’s historical trilogy. I hear amazing things about those books, and they certainly look intriguing too!! Here’s hoping I get to at least one of them this year… !

Happy summer reading – and many thanks for visiting Finding Wonderland.

    • Poinsettia says

I hope I get to them this year as well!

You’re welcome! I hope you have a great summer of reading too! 🙂

  38. I read Where the Sidewalk Ends a very long time ago. I would like to probably read Stalking Jack the Ripper someday.

I’m usually swimming when I go to the beach, so I usually don’t take a book. I did read City of Bones at the lake a few weeks ago though. It was not a warm day.

    • Poinsettia says

I really need to get to Stalking Jack the Ripper as well. I usually swim or play in the sand with my kids at the beach, so I don’t get a lot of time to read, but I do manage to squeeze in some reading while there. Usually before my kids wake up.

      Thanks for commenting!

  39. Ooo Patricia Briggs, yes. Such a good one!
