Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Liked But Can’t Remember Anything About

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

My reading habits involve me diving into a wide variety of genres: young adult, non-fiction, science fiction, fantasy, mysteries, horror, and even the occasional romance novel.

Most of the time, I can remember the basic plot of a book long after I’ve finished it even if I forget some of the details in it. There are times when I forget everything about a story other than the fact that I’ve read it, though, and that is why I won’t be commenting about anything on the list below like I normally do on Top Ten Tuesday posts.

The only facts I can tell you about any of them is that I know I read and enjoyed them at one point!

1. One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez.

2. The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan.

3. The Call of the Wild by Jack London.

4. I, Robot by Isaac Asimov.

8. Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult.

9. The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson.

10. Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan.

Have you read any of these titles? What novels do you know you’ve read but can’t remember anything about?

Comments

  1. I haven’t read any of these but they look quite interesting. A few of these are definitely on my TBR.
I guess we have limited brain storage to remember all the bookish information 😛

I hope you get to re-read a few of them soon 😛

  2. I’ve never read I, Robot! Oddly enough. Seems like one I’d like. and Mr. Penumbra’s (love that cover version BTW) is one I’m a little fuzzy on too.

  3. Ah Handle With Care, I liked that one! Not my favourite Picoult book though.

  4. I loved Jodi Picoult’s books. I wish I had the time to reread them.

  5. I have’t read any of these..

  6. the kite runner and penumbra made my list too…the call of the wild would have made it if i had not read it with my son a couple of years ago for his school reading 🙂
one hundred years and the joy luck club – they are on my tbr…

    • I hope you enjoy One Hundred Years of Solitude and The Joy Luck Club.

What did you think of Call of the Wild? Should I give it another read?

  7. I haven’t read any of these, but I’ve heard so many good things about The Kite Runner. I forget a lot too, but an upside to forgetting is that you can re-live your reading experience a second time if you re-read a book you remember loving 🙂

  8. OK, I’ve actually read several of the ones you listed. Amazing! The Joy Luck Club, Handle With Care, and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. I do remember quite a bit about Handle With Care as I reread it last year or the year before. The other two, not so much. This has been a fun topic.

  9. You’ve basically created a list of books that I’ve been meaning to read for ages…So no, I haven’t read any of them, but most of them are on my extensive TBR list.

    Have a great week.

  10. There’s a couple of books on your list (Solitude and Solomon) that I’d like to get to. Hopefully I don’t forget then after I read them.

  11. Grace @ Rebel Mommy Book Blog says

I agree I usually remember some main points but there were some I had no clue. I also didn’t write anything about the books this week because I couldn’t remember!!

  12. Aww, I DO remember ‘The Call of the Wild’! I had to read it for uni and ended up loving it! I actually ended up reading more Jack London-short stories, but this one remained my favourite.
Thanks for reminding me of it!

  13. Great list! I own a copy of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan but haven’t read it yet, and Toni Morrison and Khaled Hosseini are two authors I desperately need to cross off my TBR.

  14. Oh Yes, I’ve heard of some of these great authors, and I want to read The Kite Runner. I loved Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns

  15. I haven’t read any of these, but I’ve heard of most of them! Nice list 🙂

  16. I love Mr. Penumbra’s Book Store. So fun. Isn’t it weird how books slips away, like friends leaving a party without saying goodbye. My TTT Books I Don’t Remember well

  17. The Joy Luck Club was so incredible. I remember a lot of tragic stories, but the women were also very strong.

  18. Omg I raise my hand for The Call of the Wild.? I have NO CLUE what that’s about but I could’ve sworn I read it for school?! Actually I don’t remember the details of any books I read in school now that I come to think about it.? My bad.

    • I’m glad that I’m not the only one! There are some books we read in school that I remember pretty well, but that definitely isn’t one of them.

  19. I read The Kite Runner a few years back and remember it OK, unlike some of the other books I read around the same time, lol. Thanks for stopping by my Top Ten earlier! 🙂

  20. I really need to read The Kite Runner. The only silver lining of forgetting is that we get to re-experience the excitement of re-reading a book we love.

  21. I haven’t read any books on your list but I do have a number of books that I can’t remember what happened!

  22. Jade @ BookMuffin says

There’s a few here on my TBR but I haven’t read any. Glad to hear you enjoyed them when you were reading!

  23. I for sure want to read Call of the Wild sometime. Glad it left such a great impression, makes me feel better about moving forward to read it!

  24. I haven’t read any of these, but I definitely want to read The Call of the Wild.

  25. Most of these I either read just in the last two years and hence remember or haven’t read yet! But great list. I really need to get around to reading the Kite Runner.

  26. So happy to see my man Isaac Asimov on your list 😉 I also really enjoyed The Joy Luck Club, maybe it’s time for a re-read…

  27. This is such a fun top ten prompt! I can’t think of any books I have read but can’t remember plots of haha. I think i’m more likely to mix up plots? I haven’t read any of these ones, but a couple of them are on my TBR!

  28. Oh, the Kite Runner is a good one! I read that one too and can’t remember it now either, but I remember really loving it. I need to add it to my reread list!!

  29. Great list. I read Mr Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore a few years ago and I don’t remember a single thing from it. I am hoping to read I Robot later this year. Other than that, I haven’t read any of these books.

  30. I loved The Hundred Year Old Man as well! It’s such a witty and humourous story. I just checked out Handle With Care because it caught my attention, and it sounds really interesting. Great list!

  31. Heather @ Heather's Reading Hideaway says

Oooh yes The Kite Runner! I remember loving that book and it really shocking me. But I read it at least ten years ago so I don’t remember anything from it. I am definitely considering re-reading it this year! Thanks for the reminder. Awesome list 🙂 and thanks again for reading and commenting mine.

  32. I haven’t read any of these so I wouldn’t be able to help in refreshing your memory about them. This was such a fun Top Ten Tuesday topic! It was interesting to look back on books I’ve enjoyed but for some weird reason, can’t remember much about.

  33. Gosh, I haven’t read any of these. I am curious about I, Robot though…

    Thanks for visiting Shell’s Stories!

  34. I’ve read most of these and, like you, have pretty much forgotten everything about them even though I know I liked them. I’ll definitely be re-reading a few of them at some point.

  35. I loved The Joy Luck Club. Their stories are still vivid in my mind and I need to read more of her books. This is a great list and I’ll have to check out the other books.

  36. I read Mr Penumbra and sort of remember it. Like I remember the ending for the most part. 😀

  37. Many of them seems interesting, especially the last one. 🙂

  38. I’ve never read any of these books, but I really want to read the Kite Runner. Same for me with a lot of the books that I read. I don’t’ remember anything at all only that I loved them.

  39. Wasn’t there a movie of I, Robot? I think I’ve seen it but I don’t remember it very well either. Looks like you’ve read some real popular books and modern classics – more than me!

    • Yes, there was a film adaptation of it years ago. I have no idea how closely it followed the original story, though!

  40. I’ve heard of many of these, but can’t say I’ve ever read them. Isn’t it a bummer when you can’t remember much about a really good book? Thanks for sharing these and for visiting my blog.

Hope you have a great week.

  41. Snow Flower looks familiar, but I have NO clue what happened, haha. Was it a sequel to her novel Shanghai Girls, or am I thinking of another novel entirely?

    The struggle is real. D:

  42. You reminded me I didn’t read I, Robot! That’s one that’s been on my list for way too long.

  43. I’ve wondered about reading a few of these books, but have yet to make it through them.;)

  44. Aside from “The Kite Runner,” I don’t think any of these are familiar to me. And I think that one sounds familiar only because, wasn’t it adapted as a film? Despite not remembering much about these, I’m glad you did enjoy them at one time. 🙂

Appreciate you stopping by Finding Wonderland.

    • Thank you, and you’re welcome!

I honestly don’t know if “The Kite Runner” was adapted as a film or not. I’m terribly behind on watching movies. It very well could have been.

  45. I want to try several of these – someday anyhow! 🙂

    Lauren @ Always Me

  46. LOL that seems to happen more and more often for me. I remember I enjoyed them and if I read the blurb or flip through bits might come back to me but not always.

  47. YAY Top ten Tuesday (the only good thing about tuesdays lets be real) Great list! I don’t think i’ve had the chance to read any of these yet but will definitely check them out!

    Happy reading 🙂

    • Yes, Top Ten Tuesday makes me look forward to every Tuesday as well. I hope you enjoy these books when you get a chance to read them.
