Top Ten Tuesday: Books About New Year’s Eve

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

I’ve been a reviewer for Long and Short Reviews for a long time now. One of the many interesting things I’ve noticed over the years is how rare is it for us receive requests to review books that are set on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day.

You’d think more authors would pick that setting given how festive it can be and how much can happen over the course of a few hours at a spirited New Year’s Eve party!

Here are ten books with that setting. Who knows? Maybe we’ll get more review requests that have this setting in 2024.

I haven’t read any of them yet, so do share your thoughts about them in the comments if you have.

Comments

  1. Ooh, I love that you went with a New Year’s theme! You’re right, a lot of things can happen in the span of a few hours at a New Year’s party. I love watching movies with that exact premise during the holiday season, so I’m sure I’d love books like that too.

  2. New Years Eve reading? Interesting twist, and unexpectedly early!

  3. I have to read at least one of these to books in the new year, I didn’t know so many

    • There aren’t a lot of them out there, but there were more than I thought. May you enjoy whichever one you read.

  4. I know I’ve read some books with New Year’s Eve in them, but can I remember any right now? No. Great topic!

  5. So much attention is placed on Christmas this time of year. I like this focus.

    My TTT topic: Christmas Playlist

  6. Fab topic! I haven’t read any of these but I did listen to the audio of This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens.

  7. The Last Party by Claire Mackintosh is set at New Year and is very good. I’ve got Harriet Tyce’s book It Ends at Midnight on my reading list for between Christmas and New Year. It’s set at Hogmanay right here in Edinburgh where I live so I’m looking forward to that one.

  8. New Years is such a great story opportunity, I’m surprised it doesn’t get used more.

  9. Oh, I like this! People usually go for Christmas themes around the holidays, so seeing another holiday like New Year’s Eve getting some love is really cool!

  10. Great theme! I haven’t read any of these which is always fun–new books for my TBR.

  11. I do think we need more New Years books. I don’t think I’ve read many…

  12. I can’t really think of many New Year books! I’m sure there are a lot out there but I can name far more Xmas ones and other holidays.

  13. I’ve read one romance that took place during New Year’s. It’s definitely something I want to read more of!

Thanks for stopping by my Top Ten Tuesday!

  14. Oh, interesting! Looks like quite a varied list. The only New Year book that’s jumping to mind for me is Dorothy L. Sayers’ The Nine Tailors… 🤔

  15. Good point! I don’t know if I’ve ever read a book that’s centered around New Year’s. None of these titles are familiar to me.

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  16. Fun list! Now I’m trying to figure out if I’ve read any books about New Year’s Eve, and I’m drawing a total blank…

  17. I hadn’t thought about it before, but you’re right! It’s very odd that there aren’t more books set at New Year’s Eve/Day. I had expected that there would be a lot more!

Thanks for stopping by my TTT earlier!

  18. Well what an interesting slant on settings, never thought about it before.

  19. I love the topic you choose to feature this week. I too am always curious about the lack of New Year’s books or film. It’s always all about Christmas. It’d be fun to find some reads centered on New Year’s Eve or day for some variety. Seeing this makes me think I may have to borrow this topic sometime. 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting my website today.

  20. The cover for Tripping Arcadia is so beautiful, I have never heard about that book but I’ll check it out!

  21. This is such a great idea, and now that I’m thinking about it, I can only think of three books that I’ve ever seen that feature NYE! You’re so right, and this is a great list.
