I liked the way this story picked up right after the first book and the way introduced some new and interesting paranormals. The way Sam and Bob’s stories evolved is handled beautifully and their relationship is definitely very steamy. I felt for Hartman and Danjal, they loved and lost each other several years before and their reunion is both beautiful and painful to watch. I rooted for them to fix what was broken between them and to fall in love again.
The continuing story arc of Sam fighting hard to be just human as it becomes increasingly obvious he’s more than purely human is something I look forward to watching develop in future books. I find myself wondering if future books will also focus on Sam and Bob and secondary characters at the same time, after all Sam and Bob have a few friends like their friend Malachi that I would love to see settled with happily ever afters of their own.
This is a gritty detective novel that is blended smoothly with a sexy M/M romance story with delicious magic adding just a touch of whimsy to the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this collaboration and I hope for more from these two authors together in the future. I recommend this to paranormal romance and detective story fans equally who love when men love each other and aren’t afraid to express it.
