Their bites are more than deadly…

The small town near the Everglades was supposed to offer Rachel and her son a fresh start. Instead it offered the start of a nightmare, when an unknown breed of flies migrated through the area, leaving painful bites in their wake. The media warned people to stay inside until the swarm passed. But the flies didn’t leave. And then the radios and TVs went silent.

That’s when the spiders came. Spiders that could spin a deadly web large enough to engulf an entire house overnight. Spiders that left stripped bones behind as they multiplied. Spiders that, like the flies, sought hungrily for tender flesh…through Violet Eyes.

There was something lurking in the dark forest of Sheila Key Island. It emerged from a scientific experiment. It forms a force both deathly and infectious that horrifyingly intersects with the lives of those living in Passanatte, Florida. Now the question is: Can it be contained?

Overcoming a rocky divorce, single mother of one, Rachel Riordan moves to Passanatte, Florida to get away from her ex-husband and start her life anew. All seems well, Rachel has a new job, and nice friendly neighbors to watch after her 10 year old son until she get’s home from work. her college aged neighbor, Billy has been on the news as the sole survivor of an attack by a unknown breed of flies that happened on Sheila Key Island.

Billy has been experiencing severe headaches that simple Motrin can’t relieve. The towns people are noticing flies that attack leaving painful bites. Pets are going missing. Spider webs are taking over homes. The town is unknowingly under attack by the flies that bite and leave larva, which within a short time span the larva hatches into a multitude of spiders.

Violet Eyes is a edge of your seat thriller that had me running from every spider and fly that I saw. This book is not for the squeamish. This is a gripping scary story that gives an extended version of the television shows Infested and Monsters Inside of Me. John Everson built a convincing world that is believable, it kept me engrossed and it is so wonderfully written with descriptive gory details. Even though the mutation most likely isn’t possible the author did a wonderful job in making the story believable with his writing style, and making the story easy to follow. The novel flowed nicely and didn’t leave any unanswered questions.

This book is still a five star to me even with a few grammar mishaps and also towards the end of the book it was mentioned that they were traveling in a car, and then later it mentions they are in a SUV.. nothing incredibly important to the plot, just something that pulled me out of the story for a moment.  Violet Eyes is a very entertaining read, and I will definitely look for more writing from Mr. Everson and add him to my favorite author’s list.

I highly recommend Violet Eyes to anyone interest in reading a filling horror story. It is a must read from a talented writer. With such creativity, I found myself in the author’s imagination well after finishing the novel- scratching my head and wondering “what if…?”

Big Creek might be a stereotypical small town but even they have drama.

Heather loves her little café, and her best customer is the county Sherriff. She’s been waiting months for him to ask her out…maybe she won’t have to wait much longer.

Bronson feels at home in Big Creek even though he hasn’t been the Sherriff for long. Small towns have their perks and a pretty café owner who cooks like an angel certainly doesn’t hurt. Now, if he could only get over his nerves and drum up the gumption to ask her out.

Throw in a gossip mill, a redneck festival and an ill timed attempt to help and you end up with some laughs, some ruffled feathers and a town that is….Redneck Fabulous.

The first thing that caught my attention was the fact this book is part of The Redneck Fabulous Series. I mean, have you ever heard the words Redneck and Fabulous used in sentence before? I HAD to read this!
Those treatments are the tadalafil online india common ways for CPPS in Western countries. Many couples why not look here order levitra online prefer the medicines when they plan to make love. Bronson is the new Sheriff in town and he takes his meals at the Fried Pickle Café. It’s the only real eating joint in town but it also has a real pretty owner that sometimes sits and has coffee with him. He’s trying to get his nerve up to ask her out.

The author does an excellent job of writing a light romance that makes you care about her characters. Bronson is a bit shy and is ten years older than Heather. Heather’s last relative died and left her the restaurant. She knows everyone in town but doesn’t want to be too forward.

What really tickled me was the antics of old Gus. Gus gets into the middle of the parade when he’s not invited; he peeks in old ladie’s windows and pees on their sidewalks. And until the Sheriff puts him in jail you don’t learn that Gus is an old horse… That was sneaky Ms. Daniels, and a very nice touch to the story.

Just as Heather and the Sheriff are getting ready to be brave enough to date, Gus comes between him. Heather wants to protect him; Bronson must follow the law. The dance of love in this story has a few missteps but they keep dancing.

Ms. Daniel’s words flow well, I could see the small Texas town in my mind as I read the story, and just reading about the events at the weeklong fair is enough to make you chuckle. Have you ever heard of Cow Chip Bingo? You need to get this book and read it so you can learn about this main event and learn about old Gus’ fate. You also need to read it because it will make you laugh and it’s a fun read. Thanks for a good read, Ms. Daniels.

Driven to distraction by the redhead across the room, Anthony Benson barely hears the terms of his brother’s challenge before agreeing to them.

No matter. It will be easy. Viscount Maddox has never had any problem impressing the ladies. And four weeks is more than enough time to win over this so obviously neglected wallflower.

But things are never as easy as they seem.

The lady has lofty aspirations. And not one of them includes love or marriage. Especially not with an arrogant and self-assured playboy like the viscount. No matter how attractive he may be.

A strawberry intervenes when Anthony tries to win Bridget’s affections. Anthony has a wager with his brother that he will win the heart of Bridget by the end of four weeks. When he tries to begin this quest, a wayward strawberry jumps beneath his foot and he lands in an unconscious heap at her feet.

Even a rake can fall in love. Anthony’s pursuit of Bridget turns into a more serious attraction as he gets to know her. Bridget desperately tries to keep him at a distance, but eventually they come to a mutual understanding to the benefit of both of them.

This Regency novel is a delightful, bubbly, frothy book. It has humor and tells the story from both Anthony and Bridget’s point of view, which gives a delightful insight of their personalities. Their initial love/hate relationship changes when they join forces and face the designs of others with a united front until a misunderstanding tears them apart.

The people, their feelings and their humor and anger are all real. I could see the annoyance on Bridget’s face and the desperation of Anthony. The minor characters are also extremely humorous. Anthony’s friends delight in teasing him while Bridget’s aunt thinks all men are attracted to her, not her niece.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I like Regency novels but they often become very much a variation on the same theme. This one is different. It takes a situation which in our era could result in various unsavory responses and instead sets it in the more genteel era of Regency.

Applause to the authors for a well written novel.

Shanghai Love is a gripping novel about the unlikely love story that develops between a Chinese herbalist and a Jewish refugee in Shanghai during World War II. Peilin is betrothed to Kwan Yao, the only son of a wealthy pearl farmer. However, months before their wedding, Yao is killed by the Japanese in the Nanjing Massacre. The Kwans insist on proceeding with the wedding and beautiful Peilin is married to a ghost husband. When an uncle passes away, Peilin is sent to Shanghai to manage the Kwan family herbal shop. Meanwhile, in Berlin, Henri graduates from medical school just as Hitler rises to power and unleashes prejudice and violence against the Jewish population. He flees to Shanghai where he’s befriended by Ping, a young disfigured rickshaw driver. Ping introduces Henri to his sister Peilin. Through her kindness, Henri becomes fascinated with Chinese herbs as well as the exotic culture surrounding him. Shanghai Love is a classic story of love’s triumph over adversity.

This story caught my attention because one of the main characters was married to a ghost. Her marriage was arranged years ago and by her wedding day, her potential mate had been killed in the war. I knew about arranged marriages, but not about ghost weddings. Can you imagine being wed, living in his parent’s home and serving his mother with no hope of a real wedding and life? I can’t!

Ms. Wong sets her story back in the 40’s when the Nazi’s were persecuting Jews. She peppers her story with weak people who become strong due to circumstances. That’s a very realistic way to look at life. Her words flow well and I felt like I was back in a simpler time when all that mattered was having enough to eat and a place to live.

She makes her characters human. Each has suffered great sorrow, each is moving on because there is no other choice. Henri is Jewish and just barely escapes Germany with his life. He uses the single ticket available to go to Shanghai because his Uncle insists. Peilin has lost her family in a fire and sent to Shanghai to take over an herb shop and help people use herbal remedies for their problems. She’s also searching for her brother. He’s her last relative and she wants to reunite with him.

This romance is very sweet. He’s white and Jewish; she’s Chinese. Their own traditions keep them apart. They enjoy their time together but feel there is no hope for more. I really enjoyed how the author handled this part of the story. She shares Chinese traditions and makes them seem real. They were foreign to me, but I can see the beauty of their traditions.

Another thing that I learned from reading this story was that there were quite a few Chinese and Jewish refugees in Shanghai. I like reading books I learn from. I also really liked this romance. The author did a lovely job of teaching you some facts and making you love her characters. I was impressed enough with this story that the book is going in my personal library as a keeper.

Why don’t you give it a read and see what you think? I bet the author steals your heart, too, with this story.

Memories are the ultimate contradiction. They can warm us on our coldest days or they can freeze a loved one out of our lives forever. The McCarthy family has a trove of warm memories. Of innocent first kisses. Of sumptuous family meals. Of wondrous lessons learned at the foot of a rocking chair. But they also have had their share of icy ones. Of words that can never be unsaid. Of choices that can never be unmade. Of actions that can never be undone.

Following the death of his beloved wife, John McCarthy Grandpa John calls his family back home. It is time for them to face the memories they have made, both warm and cold. Only then can they move beyond them and into the future.

The Rockin’ Chair reached in and touched my heart. It made me think of a saying—we are infinite spirits having a temporary human experience—don’t know where I heard it but it popped into my mind. Big John McCarthy’s spiritual faith makes him confident he, one day soon, will be with his Alice that Alzheimer’s had taken from him. But his earthly need to set things right for his son and grandchildren before he goes to her resonates throughout the story.

John loved and still loves his son Hank with all his being, yet somewhere along the line things went wrong. John tried to help Hank become a man but he used the harsh methods he’d learned from his father. John made Hank bitter. He alienated his son. Not even Alice’s gentle words made John see what he was doing and how his stubbornness and pride had cost him dearly. He suffers and works and works. In his mind and heart he knows everything he has worked for and still works for is for Hank to have one day; but his unyielding, taciturn ways had defeated Hank who never felt like he measured up. Even Hanks long-suffering wife Elle cannot rebuild her husband’s self esteem and help him reconcile with John.

This is simply not true – in fact millions of men across the world do in fact appalachianmagazine.com cialis 5 mg suffer from male impotence. levitra overnight shipping Erectile dysfunction or impotence is a very common problem seen in most men is premature ejaculation or it is also suggested to keep this medicine in a confidential package. Hank and Elle made a home across the bridge in view of John and Alice’s house and reared three children there. The children loved John and Alice and learned so much from them. John dealt for more kindly with them than he had with Hank; after all Georgey, Evan and Tara were not his to make into to responsible adults. Hank managed to follow in his father’s footsteps with his boys so his children sought their fortunes in distant places with shattering results.

Georgey, a sergeant in the army Rangers, comes home from Afghanistan a haunted man in search of his soul. How Grampa John and Three Speed help him get headed in the right direction enthralls.

Evan comes home with a broken heart and shattered dreams. He runs afoul of this dad, but Grampa John quietly but firmly helps Evan find the faith that had seemed to slip away some time while Evan was in college or maybe when he tried so hard to be a member of his fiancée’s family and forget his own family. The example Grampa John uses with the old glass bottle with a rainbow in it when the sun caught it at just the right angel is so revealing.

Tara comes home an alcoholic and drug addict with a precious little daughter that soaks up family love like a sponge. Tara’;s battle for normalcy is heartbreaking and will be on going, but with Grampa John’s unrelenting care and some kind, but stern guidance, there is hope. His simple question—do you hate yourself more than you love your daughter—touches something in Tara and prods her into making a more determined effort.

The hardest task John must tackle is making things right with Hank. Their relationship is fraught with so much hurt and bitterness, but with prayer and a God that never fails, John finds a way so his soul can rest in peace when it is time to go be with his Alice. Moreover, he learns it is so much better to be KIND than be RIGHT.

I’m still reeling with wonder as to how Steven Manchester uses ordinary words that we all use but puts them together so masterfully that they tap into emotions, senses, and one’s very being. He helps a reader identify, sympathize, or empathize with imaginary characters to the point that this reader was shedding tears for their hurts, railing at characters that wrong them, and in my mind and heart sharing life experiences with them. His amazing descriptions let the reader vicariously experience the deep cold of Montana winters, the blush of early spring, the smell, texture, sounds of the barn, the atmosphere of The Corn Crib dive, the timelessness of the seasons, the endlessness of hard work on a Montana farm, and so much more. Mr. Manchester’s exquisite writing style makes this poignant story memorable and joy to read.

The Rockin’ Chair rings so true to life as it reveals the strength of family love that survives through the good and the bad. It is a keeper.

The plot is interesting in a cozy way, not riveting. It’s wonderfully clever in comparing Shakespeare’s characters to modern-day people and situations. What should someone watch out for then? “Eavesdrops behind Curtains.” And now? “Installs GPS Tracker.”

The book is filled with remarks that are sure to increase a reader’s understanding of the Bard’s work. Recommended to those who enjoy delightful, light-hearted, modern-day stories.

Will the devilish Captain Stephen Ransom ruin Christmas, or will he prove to be Miss Webster’s most cherished gift?

The Devil and Miss Webster

Eleanor Webster is never afraid. Not until the Devil invades her home and threatens to turn her world upside down. But what scares her the most? Losing her carefully guarded position and family? Or her heart?

As a captain, Stephen Ransom has always done his duty to the best of his ability, serving king and country. But what is he supposed to do with this harridan who wields such power in his late brother’s household? Terminating her position would be the wise thing to do. Wisdom, however, can be highly over-rated.

It opens with a shared – and shocking – secret. The plot promised to be interesting right from the start. Then, in very short order, we start to get a grasp of exactly the kind of person our heroine, Eleanor, is. She is magnificent and atypical for the times: making her own choices, selecting her own role, that kind of thing. She also won’t be bullied and is one to seize the bull by the horns.  I liked her more and more as I read, and the plot was thankfully equal to this excellent character.

Eleanor is best friend to the Viscountess Ransom (Laura) who, one might kindly say, has made a mistake. Eleanor is not going to let her pay forever for that mistake – but, there are indeed some other, very motivated characters in this tale. If you begin reading this, you will not stop until you finish.

Captain Ransom, Laura’s brother-in-law, is set at odds with Laura’s (and so also Eleanor’s) decision almost immediately. It only takes the Captain’s mere appearance for reader expectations to begin to ratchet up. There is a romance coming – but where, and who, are the vital questions. And even before any possibility of romance, we wonder at what will happen when this Captain Stephen actually arrives.

Both in terms of the problem, as well as the romance, ‘the Devil and Miss Webster’ remains continually intriguing. The setting is also delightful – the English country house, and much of it during Christmas. The atmosphere, children’s excitement , attitudes and related conversations, all are very perfect.

My one complaint is that some physical descriptions are artlessly dropped in. This does create moments that feel heavily contrived–people more so than locations.

Fans of the regency will certainly enjoy The Devil and Miss Webster.

Meanwhile, an evil sorcerer captures witches, steals their powers and most of their nine lives, and shrinks them to the size of dolls – Nürnberg dolls. But when he turns two of the Manchester witches into dolls, the Manchester clan fights back with the help of St. Michael, and divine intervention. Armed with the legendary copper cauldron, a fire-breathing dragon, and an arsenal of spells, good battles evil.

The Copper Cauldron is a light, quick read—an interesting blend of a variety of traditions ranging from magical and Hindu to classic Christian. With so many diverse elements, I was looking forward to seeing how Ms. Venters would weave this story. All the elements are there. There’s a prophecy of true love to be fulfilled, witches to be rescued, there’s a handsome angel, a beautiful witch, an evil sorcerer… there’s even a fire breathing dragon.

Penelope doesn’t possess the poise, intellect or integrity I expected in a twenty-nine year old woman an immortal angel would be attracted to. She causes pigeons to poop on people, sells curses, tries to poison an innocent man and swears. St. Michael the Archangel is a cardboard cutout rather than a divine being.  Interestingly, he seems to believe in karma rather than faith or even divine intervention.

At 102 pages, it can be read in one sitting. The plot of this story was clever and unique and I would have really raved if I’d connected a bit more to the characters. Still, this might be me and not the story, and that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy Copper Cauldron. It is clear that Ms. Venters has a great imagination. Copper Cauldron has a good premise and a fast-paced storyline.

She takes the bored, achy Trinity from a boring existence at home with nothing to do but watch TV and wait for the mail to a woman who is enticed by a green brochure for the senior center that says activities there are exciting. She’s cynical, but she’s going to give it a try. After all, the worst that could happen would be that she would be bored there, too.

The author then adds a nice gentleman who changes the way Trinity thinks of things. He gets her to dance, convinces her she doesn’t need to go to bed until after midnight, and she finds herself being drawn in. Ms. Campbell then adds a thief to the mix and the story gets much more exciting.
