Angels are all too human (in fact, we meet one who’s no longer an angel), can be killed if they’re in a corporeal body and suffer the afflictions of the human race, from love to anger to hate.

Angela Sky is an angel on Earth investigating murders of other angels. The first is found by the minister, Sandy Beach and the next body is found in his church. He’s clearly involved in some way, so Angela sticks tight to his side and tries to ignore the feelings that start to develop. After all, she has an angel boyfriend in heaven.

I was intrigued by this concept and read eagerly to find out more. Ms. Redding has a vivid imagination and winds plot points around other plot points, introducing characters who are clearly defined. The narrative is very dialogue heavy, though, and exceptionally speedy. I understand this is a short story, and sometimes it can be difficult to not sacrifice content for brevity, but I really loved the idea behind this story and think it would have been tremendous had it just been a bit longer. I never quite felt the draw between Sandy and Angela, and wanted to see that build more. And the ending where they must fight to avert the apocalypse zoomed past.

Still, this was an enjoyable read and perhaps my discontent reflects how much I was invested in the plot and characters. I’m impressed by the breadth of Ms. Redding’s ideas and look forward to seeing what she comes up with next.

As a child, Anne Fairfield dreams of the father she never knew, the hero who died fighting the French and their Indian allies in a land across the sea. Her mother’s stories, and fantasies of her own devising, sustain and nurture her through a poor and lonely existence. Until one winter night, a strange man comes to call, and the life she has known comes crashing down like shattered glass.

Forced to confront sordid truths, secrets and lies, the headstrong young woman begins to learn that, like generations of women ruled by their hearts, she is destined to follow in their footsteps.

Set against the backdrop of 18th century England, Lord Esterleigh’s Daughter is the first book in “The Serpent’s Tooth” trilogy, which follows Anne from the rural countryside, to London society and into the center of the American Revolution.

These treatments are entirely different and distinct forms of therapy that involves a variety of physical rehabilitation techniques and the therapist relied on other methods of theory and interpersonal roles cheapest cialis of sexual dysfunction. Jane Austen showed us the gentle side of 19th century England; Kathy Fischer-Brown sets her work a century earlier and shows us how envy, revenge, and greed can work to effect long-term changes on one young woman.

This book (and I assume the ones that follow it) are not stand-alone books.  I admit, I’m used to books, even those in a series, being ones you can read separately. The Serpent’s Tooth Trilogy is just that — a real trilogy.  It caught this reader off-guard to reach the end of the book, but not the end of the story by any means. So, caveat emptor, if you are the kind of reader who does not like to wait to find out what happens next—buy all three books in this trilogy at once.

Our heroine, Anne has been brought up to believe that her father is dead–dying a heroic death in war. When her mother is on her deathbed, however, she discovers that not only is her father alive but lives close enough he has been able to keep up with the family. He wants to make amends and bring the whole family back together, but it’s too late for Anne’s mother. And, Anne has a hard time forgiving her father for his apparent disregard of them for years.

Anne’s suspicions and anger at her father lead her into many complications and issues –reminiscent, at times, of the gothic novels I grew up on. Who can Anne trust? Who should she avoid?

The author does a wonderful job of showing all these complications clearly, with apt description, and I could easily see this series as a movie–maybe one day I will.   So, if you are a fan of dark gothic themes,  enjoy seeing the underbelly of British society and what goes on behind the scenes, as it were, I highly recommend you buy this trilogy.

As for now I’m completely hooked and off to read the “rest of the story,” as Paul Harvey would have said.

Caern swore to never return to New Orleans, his death warrant making the choice easy. Well, easy until his past returns to smack him around. Searching to find a murderer out to kill the grandchild he never thought to meet, he finds himself falling into a hell he just might not be able to crawl free of. His only hope lies in Detective Eliza Marrone. Falling for her isn’t in the cards, but his heart tells him it might be the only thing he can’t escape. Zombies, old lovers and psychopathic vampire clergy, yeah those are things he can deal with. True love on the other hand is the one thing he’s always avoided. This time there’s no way out. It might get him killed, or end up saving his wretched soul.

New Orleans. The Big Easy. The city that Caern once called home, the place he can never go again if he values his life. And yet, when his former lover, Queen of the Vampires, reaches out, he knows he must answer, against his better judgment.

Half vampire, Caern has fought his nature for two centuries, running Darkside Investigations along with his partner Chase. Now Chase has found his happy ever after, and if the message from Katyarina is any indication, life just got a lot more complicated for Caern. Once, a long time ago, Katyarina and Caern were in love, but when Augustine Dupres, Katyarina’s brother, became the Zombie King, he drove Caern out of New Orleans, and sentenced him to death is he ever returned. Caern was happy to stay away, until the last of his bloodline comes under threat. Luckily, Caern has back up in Raiz, a Russian Were bear and Stephanie, an Amazon of an Elvin warrior to help. Immortally Damned is the long awaited second book in J Morgan’s Amor Immorati series. This is a darker world than Mr. Morgan usually depicts, and it is filled with danger, desire, and yet, there is still that edge of irreverent and delicious humor that any J Morgan book has. The characters here are not the cute and sarcastic vampires and shifters J Morgan does so well, these people are much darker, edgier, and more violent when it is needed. The New Orleans that the author depicts is gritty, dark and filled with beings that scare normal people. I enjoyed my visit, but I was happy to leave it behind once the story was told.

Eliza Marrone is a strong and determined woman, one of the youngest female detectives in the department. When her superior tells her this case is her last chance to keep the job, she is even more determined to solve the murders. When her whole world is turned inside out by the knowledge that vampires, zombies and all those mythical creatures are real, she first thinks she is losing her mind. When she first meets Caern, she thinks he is crazy, because he tells her what he is, and that she has no idea what she is hunting. But I really like Eliza, because even as her world is being torn apart, she is determined to stop the killer, no matter what he is. And I enjoyed watching as she tried, and ultimately failed, to resist her attraction to Caern.

Caern Chevalier is a Dhampyre, half human and half vampire. He is strong, stubborn, and loyal to his friends and those he cares about. Handsome, quiet and darkly sarcastic, he is almost an anti-hero. But his determination to save the last of his descendents from the torture and death stalking her brings out the hero in him. I enjoyed watching as he stepped out of the shadows, and learned to love again. His reactions to Eliza start out as suspicion as she is seen leaving Dupres home, but slowly become admiration of her strength, and finally, a deep and unexpected love.

Mr. Morgan weaves together several threads to create the tapestry of this story, from Caern and Katyarina’s shared past, Dupres’ vendetta against Caern, and the unsolved murders creating chaos in the city. The dialog is sharp, witty and has a dark edge of sarcasm to it. The action is fast and decisive, and the danger is ever present once the trio reaches New Orleans. And just when things seem their darkest, J Morgan tosses in some of his familiar pop culture references to break up the tension, and ease through the tight spots. I got to learn more about Caern, and I really liked learning a bit more about the massive Raiz, the Russian were bear who has a code of honor all his own. This is not a story for the faint of heart, but id you are looking for a hard won happy ever after with some tears and laughs thrown in, this one is just the ticket. I hope Mr. Morgan has more where this one came from.

What begins as a short trip results in an entire summer spent with Henry’s second wife, Kathleen, and her next-door neighbor, Ryan Gordon, the town doctor. Stardust Summer explores the complexities of forgiveness, what it means to be a family, and the fabulous possibility of falling in love—again.

With a wonderful cast of characters and a book full of feeling, Lauren Clark tugs the heartstrings with Stardust Summer.

In truth, there were many times I wanted to shake Grace, our heroine. She was SO stubborn! But you knew she had a good heart from the way she treated her son. She just needed to get past resentment and anger in order to grow into a heroine we could admire. Watching her fight her attraction to, and her slow slide into love with Ryan was also touching and did much to help her get past the negative emotions.

The book is all about that journey, as well as the journey to get through devastating sorrow and loss. We read in the points-of-view of Grace, Kathleen and Ryan, all of whom are dealing with a maelstrom of emotion but somehow need to still put one foot in front of the other and get through life. Ms. Clark does a remarkable job conveying truth in their lives about making it through the difficult times. Her writing is clear, descriptive and believable. Each character is unique and three dimensional and I especially identified with Kathleen, who was a lovely, funny, giving woman who didn’t deserve to lose the love of her life so early.

If you’re looking for a book to make you a little introspective and a lot thankful for what you have in life, and one that will touch your heart I’d recommend Stardust Summer.

For years Libby Morgan dreamed only of making partner in her competitive, high-pressure law firm. She sacrificed everything for her career–her friends, her marriage, her chance at creating a family. When her boss calls Libby into his office, she assumes it will finally be good news, but nothing can prepare her for the shocking reality: She’s been let go and must rebuild her entire life . . . starting now.

With no job prospects in sight, Libby reaches out to old friends and spends her afternoons at A Good Yarn, the local knitting store. There she forms a close bond with Lydia, the sweet-natured shop owner; Lydia’s spirited teenage daughter, Casey; and Casey’s best friend, Ava, a shy yet troubled girl who will shape Libby’s future in surprising and profound ways.

As A Good Yarn becomes a second home–and the women a new kind of family–Libby relishes the different person she’s become. She even finds time for romance with a charming and handsome doctor who seems to be her perfect match. But just as everything is coming together, Libby must make a choice that could forever change the life she holds so dear.

She gets called into her boss’ office and is fully imagining herself as a partner two years earlier than normal. She can’t believe her ears when she’s told she’s being laid off…

Debbie Macomber has been writing for years and her romances have always been interesting, sweet, and filled with personal problems her characters must resolve to live happily ever after. This contemporary love story is the same. While it is set on Blossom Street, it can be read separately from the rest of the series. Some of the characters are the same but it is a stand-alone story.

Libby is lost without her job. She had no life except her life as an attorney. No one is hiring currently and she is adrift in the sea of life with no rudder. When she finds the local yarn shop, she wanders in mostly because she has nothing else to do. Soon she is knitting preemie hats and making friends with the women and young adults she meets there. And, somehow, she ends up holding babies at the hospital and calming them down. It calms her down, too.

Libby hasn’t been good at love. Her career has been first in her life and she hasn’t adjusted to having a balanced life. She and one of the doctors spark an interest between them, but they both have baggage. His wife died; her ex-husband left her because he wanted a family. There is a lot of give and take between them and Ms. Macomber made me wonder whether she would ever give Libby the shove necessary to move on with her life. Part of what makes this author’s books so good to read is that they are realistic. No one gets love without some risk, not everyone finds love, and not all love is good for us. She adds that quantity in her stories.

This is a sad/glad story that has a good viable ending. Whether you’re a fan of Ms. Macomber’s books or you are just reading her work for the first time, I think you’ll enjoy this book. I’m glad that Libby finally got her head on straight!

When a down on her luck publicist moves home to Odessa, Texas, she’s thrust into a volatile job with a handsome security consultant showing her the ropes when a stranger decides she must be his and he’s determined to win her love – at any cost. Can the handsome consultant protect her from the stalker or will she end up buried in the desert?

Candace Downs last name maybe Downs, but she is definitely not out, hence the title of the book – Down and Out.

Candace was recently a publicist in New York until she was let go from her job and had to move back home. With only a beat up old VW Bug, a few clothes and living in an apartment over a friends garage she didn’t have anything to lose when her cousin Carl offered her a job at his towing company. On her first day on the job Candace mets “the most beautiful man she’d ever seen’, co-owner of Viper Security Josiah Bradley and a feisty red head Beth Anne. Candace is definitely way out of her normal work environment being around guns and adventurous escapes after completing a repo. She definitely didn’t expect to pick up a stalker when called to the scene of a wreck.

Unbeknown to Candace the day she is called to tow Lucien Robard’s car from the scene of an accident, her quiet uneventful life is about to be completely changed. Lucien is obsessed with Candace and has his mind set on making sure she is the proper lady for him to marry. He hacks her social media account to track her goings on. He submits a job resume to a job at a bank, where he thinks is appropriate for her to work. Along with sending flowers and gifts to her job and home, he shows up at the hospital when Candace’s father is admitted. Candace is forced to file a formal complaint with the police department. The complaint doesn’t stop Lucien. He only set more antics in motion.

Down and Out is a novel that has it all! Adventure, humor, suspense, clean Christian romance and a lot of crazy stalker action mixed all together. At times I thought I was reading a script for a Lifetime movie while watching an episode of Repo Man.

The author did a fabulous job with the plot, keeping it interesting and the surprises with what would come next. The characters were likable and the humor from Bertie and Gertie, you couldn’t help but love them. The slow romance that built between Candace and Josiah Bradley was oohh so the teaser. I have to give two thumbs up for the author’s development of the crazy mind of Lucien. She took it there and didn’t lack any on making him believable crazy. I enjoyed the fact this was a Christian read, but as with life we have bad seeds so Lucien’s character and actions fit the novel. Dyer was not too soft in the approach.

I did notice quit a few typos that stood out and long with some editorial corrections that were missed that were very obvious.  For instance, Josiah was stabbed with a knife, but later it says he was shot. Candace’s sister’s name is Kim, but calls her Brandi in one sentence.

Over all I really enjoyed this novel. I look forward to reading more books from Marcy G. Dyer in the near future.
I would highly recommend Down and Out if you are looking for a thrilling novel with a ending you won’t be able to predict.

Cowboys and lost love is a combination that melts your heart and The Sweet Spot does just that. Early in the story Ms. Drake gives us a hint of what drove this couple apart and hints that a tragic event took place. Both Charla and JB are likeable characters I have to admit I did find myself more on JB’s side, because he’s funny, not at all perfect and Ms. Drake portrays his vulnerability perfectly as the story progresses.

I think she also did a wonderful job with the setting; the ranch was so well described that I felt like I was really there. And also the rodeo circuit where JB works came to life too. Secondary characters seemed true to life which rounded out the story.

The book cover did say new author and I think Ms. Drake’s made a promising debut with this story. I’ll be looking for more books by her. If you love an emotional read with a cowboy thrown in for good measure, The Sweet Spot would be a good pick.

Introducing the unforgettable…Jack Absolute.

The year is 1777. As the war for American independence rages across the sea, London is swept off its feet by Jack Absolute, the dashing rogue in Richard Sheridan’s comedy The Rivals. That is, until the real Jack Absolute, former captain of the 16th Light Dragoons, returns after years abroad to discover this slander of his reputation.

Before he can even protest, he is embroiled in a duel over an alluring actress of questionable repute, and his only escape is the one he most dreads: to be pressed again into the King’s service—this time, as a spy for the British in the Revolutionary War.

From the streets of London to the bloody battlefields of Saratoga, from the forest fights to the Hudson to the seedy corners of wintry Philadelphia, Jack Absolute marks the exhilarating beginning of an epic historical series and a character you won’t soon forget.

Jack Absolute is an interesting story. It’s a historical, sure, but there are so many fantastic aspects of the book that it almost reads like a James Bond story. There are plenty of details, twists and turns to draw the reader in.

I have to admit, I had to re-read more than a couple of paragraphs a few times to make sure I didn’t miss anything. There is a lot going on in this plot, plus there are many jumps back and forth in time that can be jarring to the reader. If you can invest the time to read very carefully, you won’t be disappointed.

Jack Absolute is in situations he never expected to be in—he’s a spy and with the help of his Indian brother, he’s sent to spy on the Illuminati. He doesn’t feel he belongs there, oh, and he’s got the affections of an actress of questionable repute to deal with as well. The guy has his plate full.

It’s a good read and fantastical. Granted, there are historical details that may or may not be true, but this book doesn’t claim to be a perfect retelling of the times. It’s still fiction, after all. Still, this book delivers an interesting mystery at breakneck speed. You won’t want to miss it.

The passion between the two was so real and so much more than what she shared with Bart. What really made me enjoy this novella is the 1850 setting in New Orleans, the strong attraction and desire that Lucien has for Blanche but he wasn’t over barring in his confidence to where he was conceded and a turn off. I enjoyed the thrill of Blanche being torn between Bart and Lucien. Her fighting the passion and lust that was obviously there. I think the author did a great job in incorporating a few French lines which really added to the context.

I would highly recommend reading Obsession by Paige Bennett. It’s a short magnifque read of one man’s desire and passion for a woman who is already spoken for.
