Sparks fly when tenacious mountain climber and hiker Beasley McLemore meets hot smokejumper Will Gregor on a search and rescue mission in Yosemite. Getting together, however, isn’t easy. Strong-willed Beasley is bent on building a thriving landscaping business back home in the foothills of the majestic Smoky Mountains. Busy working 24/7, she has no time or energy for a man in her life…she thinks.

Scorched by love in his past, Will is content to live near awe-inspiring Lake Tahoe where he saves lives and forests as a remote wildland firefighter. He doesn’t need a committed relationship complicating his dangerous lifestyle…he thinks.

Looming over their blossoming love affair is the 2,400 miles separating their homes and livelihoods. Will love keep them together or distance tear them apart?

When I read “Sparks fly when tenacious mountain climber and hiker Beasley McLemore meets hot smoke jumper Will Gregor on a search and rescue mission in Yosemite.” in the blurb, I couldn’t wait to read this story. That snippet sounded like a nice juicy medium rare steak to me. Top that off with “Through life-changing events and a family mystery,” I thought I was in for a delicious book glow.

I had to adjust my expectations a bit. Even though the story wasn’t as strong as I hoped, I was still satisfied with the scenic descriptive writing style, the well-developed side characters and pace of the book. Those are important characteristics for me and if a book is good, they’re in there. That’s a strong plus for Wildfire and Roses.

Instead of a book glow, the novel left me feeling like I do when I go to my favorite restaurant, order my favorite steak and it arrives not cooked as expected. Instead of complaining and returning it I still eat it because, hey, steak. So, while it still tasted good, it wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for. That’s pretty much sums up how I felt about this book.

The author switched things up with her character’s personalities. I found the hero, Will Gregor, to be relatable but his character was suppressed to an unrealistic humbleness, mixed with a slightly elevated estrogen level. It wasn’t exactly a match for his job description. As for Beasley McLemore, the heroine, she had a bit too much testosterone going on with her skill set. I love a strong leading lady but there needs to be a delicate balance between the two characters to convince me of their chemistry.

If I were to compare the book to a recipe, a baker needs the right amount of flavoring and spices to make it work. And, I know reviews and taste buds are all subjective. While I still connected with Will and Beasley, I struggled with the on again off again dynamic between them.

Overall I enjoyed the plot thread and found Wildfire and Roses to be an entertaining read. I loved the moral message of prioritizing work, love and life. I think that was a realistic struggle that many of us deal with on a daily basis. I loved the flare of drama and thought the ending was complete. Will and Beasley left me with a satisfied ending. There’s enough solid writing in this book to make it worth a recommend.

Dear Lady Truelove . . .

My twin brother and I need a new mother, though Papa insists he’ll never marry again. Must be nice, brainy, and fond of cats . . .

Lady Truelove may be London’s most famous advice columnist, but James St. Clair, the Earl of Kenyon, knows his wild young sons need a tutor, not a new mother. They need a man tough enough to make his hellions tow the line, and James is determined to find one.

We have many retained customers enjoying on line cialis our services without any hesitation. tadalafil super active The perfect time for the bath is prescribed as twenty minutes. Erectile dysfunction or impotency is the inability of a man to have or maintain an erection in order for sexual intercourse to take place is called erectile dysfunction. http://www.devensec.com/forms/November%202008.pdf cialis levitra generika Addition ingestion cheapest price for tadalafil of dosage is known to have speculative effects on health. Miss Amanda Leighton, former schoolteacher and governess, knows she has all the qualifications to be a tutor. And while female tutors are unheard of, Amanda isn’t about to lose the chance at her dream job because of pesky details like that. If Lord Kenyon insists on hiring a man, then she has only one option . . .

Jamie isn’t sure what to make of his new employee, until he realizes the shocking truth—beneath the ill-fitting suits, his boys’ tutor is a woman. An unconventional, outspoken, thoroughly intriguing woman. Despite Amanda’s deception, he can’t dismiss her when his boys are learning so much. Yet Jamie, too, is learning surprising lessons—about desire, seduction, and passionate second chances . . .

Oh, I really liked this one. The first chapter set the plot up perfectly and I was instantly enchanted. How could I not after meeting Owen and Colin St. Clair, two boys with pronounced personalities, and all they wanted was a mother who loved them? They have a grouch of a dad who wanted and demanded a certain kind of person for a nanny or tutor for his kids. The one person who could make a difference overheard a conversation that practically shut the door in her face for any chance of her being that person. However, the hero, Jamie, didn’t count on the sheer grit and determination of the heroine, Amanda. The questions of, how do Jamie and Amanda meet, how does she convince him she’s the right person for the job, and the complications that arise from her successful attempt, are all the elements needed to snare a reader. It’s the answers that kept me flipping page after page with never a dull moment between chapters. This was an excellent read.

I admit that the title, Governess Gone Rogue is what grabbed my attention, and yes, the plot made me curious but it’s the delivery that made me a very happy reader. The secondary characters are really important because they helped stir the plot, kept things interesting and showed me just who Amanda really was. I liked her a lot. Jamie is no slouch but he takes some getting used to. Not that he’s a bad character, far from it. He has some hang-ups he needs to get over before he can start living life again, instead of just going through the motions. His “wake up” was quite entertaining.

My favorite crisis is when Amanda realized that the ‘details’ that make up the person she chose to be is a bit more complicated than she imagined. I laughed, but I also appreciated the author actually figuring things out, or at least had Amanda do the best that she could. I have often wonderful about the very things that caused the heroine to panic, and I was actually glad Ms. Guhrke tackled those issues. I even enjoyed how it was done. It’s a strong plus for the story.

My next favorite dilemma is Jamie’s reaction to his discovery. Poor guy was stretched like taffy, he didn’t know quite what to do. Oh, he had ideas, sexy ideas, but that didn’t solve the most important challenge, taming his two rambunctious, clever and determined young sons. I enjoyed watching the hero come to terms with what is most important in his life. It was rather heartwarming when he finally figured it out.

There was a fly in the ointment, so to speak. A dastardly villain from Amanda’s past shows up to do what bad guys do best – muck things up. Even this conflict was well handled by the author and I found myself cheering for the characters I’d come to adore, Amanda and Jamie, Owen and Collin.

The book has a great happy ever after ending that is so romantic and beautiful, I read it twice. Governess Gone Rogue is a wonderful story. It has heart, love, passion and humor. I happily recommend this book to all romance fans everywhere.

It’s 1971 and a horrible murder has occurred near the town of Breda in west Michigan. A young woman, Jane Lucas, has been dragged into the woods and stabbed. The letters ZOSO from the Led Zeppelin album have been written in blood on her waist, which leads the police to think it might be a cult murder. Suspicion falls on the commune located on a farm near the town. The shock and horror townspeople feel after that murder, though, are nothing compared to the shock and horror people feel when another murder and then another murder of the same type occur.

As each murder occurs, the level of fear in Breda intensifies, to the point that the townsfolk either flee the town, arm themselves to the teeth, or fall into an almost catatonic state of fear. The county sheriff, the state police, and even the FBI are baffled. However, Jim Leiden, a young man who runs a small grocery in Breda, finds a clue that may link all the murders together: The hanging of a man named Obadiah Kurtz that occurred in 1889. Jim researches the story and finds that the victims are descendants of the people who were responsible for hanging Obadiah. After Jim’s discovery, he’s in a race against time to try to get the police to believe him and find the murderer before he can kill the only person in the whole world who really matters to him: His beautiful fiancée Julie Veere, who happens to be one of those direct descendants!

The hanging of a man named Obadiah Kurtz that occurred in 1889…is a sentence that caught my “need to read” attention.

From the opening of the story, the reader knows about the curse cast on the town and people involved in the hanging of Obadiah Kurtz, so it’s no surprise when the curse goes into action. The reader knows it’s a descendent of the Kurtz family. But who? Will the police be able to catch the killer before anyone else in the town has to die? This is a interesting story but I think it could have been delivered a little better. There are moments we receive play by play details in some scenes but then not enough details where it was needed in some scenes. There was one killer but the author gave the appearance others were working with him.

There have been recent murders in the town. In such a small town the crowd of residents gather at the local neighborhood store to gossip and give their opinion on who is behind the murders. Store owner, Jim Leiden hears about the 1889 hanging of Obadiah Kurtz and thinks there could be something to the town’s legend. Jim starts his own investigation asking around town for descendents of Kurtz. The part that I find odd is that when Jim goes looking for family members of Kurtz. He meets Annie Kurtz Abilene and gets little information from her, but sits right in front of Roy Kurtz and when he finds out that Roy is a family member of Kurtz he doesn’t question him, he just leaves the bar in fear. Jim just didn’t seem to have the background or description of someone that would step so quickly into an investigative role to find a murder. He wasn’t described as the heroic type.

The book does contain coarse language. I did like the relationship between Jim and Julie and Julie’s love for her mother. I like that the author did give the murderer a voice in the story. It added some gruesomeness to the dialogue to give the good guy/bad guy balance versus just giving us the POV of Jim.

The ending was predictable and wrapped up very quickly. It took hours for Jim to drive from Florida back to Michigan but the catching of the killer was too brief and wrapped up very easily.  I appreciated the author tying up all the loose ends. I don’t want to stop a potential reader from giving the story the chance it deserves, as mine is only one opinion, and I would suggest to read because it does have a unique plot and the writing style is easy to follow.

For her, failure is not an option, and loose threads must be quickly cut.

Something is awake. And it wants to feed.

This brand new disease is many things, but benign isn’t one of them.

The scientific explanation for how The Fading worked fascinated me. Since the narrator took plenty of time to go into detail about how this virus affected sick people and what scientists were learning about it as it spread, I felt like I understood it incredibly well. The more I learned about it, the scarier it became to me in a good way. I could picture what every stage of the disease felt like, and that was exactly what this story needed in order to thrive in this reader’s imagination.

I would have preferred to see a little more time spent on the character development. As interesting as all of the characters were, most of them didn’t change very much as a result of the things that happened to them during the course of the storyline. There was so much going on with The Fading and humanity’s rush to figure out how to fight it that I found that surprising. This was the only thing keeping this book from earning a perfect five-star rating as I loved everything else about it.

There were so many clever plot twists in this tale. Some of them had to do with what the virus was capable of, while others involved the characters’ reactions to this disease as it continued to spread to every corner of the Earth. While I can’t go into any further details about them, they delighted me over and over again. When I begin telling my friends they should read this, the joy I felt while discovering these twists will be the first thing I mention!

If you love dystopian fiction, I’d definitely recommend giving The Fading a try.

As Bernard pushes for qualification it becomes obvious – he’s going to need a lot more than Cody’s friendship to make the squad.

Do you have to be naturally athletic in order to be a good athlete?

The conflicts were handled nicely. Not only was there the perfect amount of it, each conflict was so different from the others that they played off of each other beautifully. This is something I’d be equally comfortable recommending to kids who love sports as I would to the ones who have no interest in that topic at all. There were so many other things going on in the storyline that I think this will appeal to all sorts of middle grade readers.

It would have been helpful to have more detailed descriptions of the characters and settings. I had a lot of trouble picturing what any of them looked like because of how few of these descriptions I had to work with. While I enjoyed the plot itself, I would have liked it even more if I could have formed mental images of these characters and the places where they spent their time.

The dialogue was well written. There wasn’t quite as much of it as I’d normally expect to see in a book of this length due to all of the time Bernard and his friends spent playing soccer, but that was a good thing. Of course they’d be too busy and possibly out of breath to talk during their practices and games! It only made sense, and I liked the fact that the author seemed to take this into account when he was writing those scenes. When characters did talk to each other, I enjoyed the fact that the voices of the adults and kids were so distinct. Just like in real life, the way a grown-up in this universe spoke generally wasn’t exactly the same as how the main character would say it.

Bernard Beagle Kicks Off should be read by sports fans of all ages.

Not everyone sees a menage as a ‘normal’ relationship. Ev is one of these people, although she has dreams of being in a threesome with her boyfriend and their best friend. That can never happen though, right?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and thought it very well-written with plenty of thought and discussion going into whether they can make it work together or not. It wasn’t just accepted by the three of them, like it can be at times. No, instead, they had to work at it and make a conscious decision over what they would do. I loved that!

All three main characters are well-rounded out, and the supporting cast is excellent. The setting sounds wonderful, and Montana is now on my bucket list! However, I would have liked to see them spend more time together. The past is a tumultuous time. There is much to be done in preparing the for Sheridan’s arrival, and Evie and Jack’s moments together are precious and few. I would have liked to see them spend a bit more time together in order to get a better sense of the kind of couple they will be.

Ms. Trissel brings the horrors of war to life in this tale. She shows how the Civil War affected soldiers and civilians alike. Families were torn apart, homes were burned, and lives were destroyed. Jack is caught in the middle of it all struggling to do what is right. He doesn’t believe in the Southern cause, but he cares about the South and can’t bring himself to fight against it. Consequently, he is in danger from both Union and Confederate soldiers. However, Jack is not one to sit by idle. He works as a guide for the Underground Railroad. It is a very difficult position to be in, and I admire his strength of character.

I’m so glad I had the opportunity to read Secret Lady. Ms. Trissel never disappoints! I highly recommend Secret Lady to anyone looking for a sweet historical romance.

The mage Jon pulled from the void, or a community of hunters prepared to slaughter children and level cities in the name of Greater Good.

Whether magic is used for good or evil depends on who is performing the spell.

Just like in earlier installments, I was blown away by the world building. Mr. Celata did an excellent job of creating a setting for his characters that feels every bit as real as our world. I could have sworn that I was seeing, hearing, and feeling the same things Jon was as he attempted to protect the children and keep his community from breaking out into war. There was so much attention to detail in these matters that I didn’t want to stop reading until I knew how it would all end for him.

At times I found it hard to keep track of the large cast of characters. It would have been quite helpful to either have a brief recap of who everyone was in the first chapter or to have a list of characters I could reference as I was reading. I’m saying this as someone who has really been enjoying this series so far. If not for my confusion about how everyone knew each other and who they were, I would have happily chosen a much higher rating for this tale. Everything else about it was fantastic.

One of the things I love about this universe is how complicated the rules of magic are in it. I still haven’t figured out all of them, but honestly I don’t think the audience is supposed to quite yet since many of the characters have had similar reactions to the complexity of them all. The author is playing the long game here, and I’m quite curious to see how it will all pan out in the end.

This is the third book in a series. I’d recommend finishing the first two installments, High Summons and Grimm Remains, before diving into this one.

Smoke & Mirrors should be read by anyone who loves wizards or the dark side of the urban fantasy genre.
