After years of development, David Wellesley, PhD, a scientist with the Johnson Space Flight Center in Dallas, created a prototype of a revolutionary new Artificial Intelligence Brain, designed to drive the planned Mars Explorer for NASA.

As he is finishing up the project, he receives a visit from Erich, a heavy set man with an even heavier German accent, whom he met briefly at Harvard the year before. Erich begins to grill David for information about the AI Brain, then hotly demands that it be turned over to him for a private sector project named Gamma. When David refuses the demand as he had promised it to NASA, Erich leaves in an angry mood.

Suspicious of Erich’s intentions, David decides to hide the AI Brain in his granddaughter’s teddybear–one of the latest Talk-and-Toddle teddybears, that can walk and learn to respond to basic spoken phrases. David had purchased the bear for his granddaughter as a Christmas present, and it was left in his care when his daughter’s family took a trip to California.

Soon Teddy is obligated to reveal his new status to the Wellesley family and Sergeant Joe Verdigo, as they all race to save David.

Thus begins the unlikely career of a two-foot tall, furry Private Eye.

Good detectives not only need to know all of the rules, they need to know when and how to break them.

What could be better than a crime-solving stuffed animal? Teddy’s intelligent – if sometimes slightly awkward – attempts to figure out human society were nearly as interesting as his quest to help David. Sometimes he reminded me of how small children imitate the adults around them without fully understanding what the grownups are doing or why they’re doing it. In other scenes I was surprised by how intuitively Teddy’s new brain processes all of the clues about what’s going on. He’s a surprisingly complex and fascinating character, and I found myself staying up late to finish just one more chapter in his adventures due to how eager I was to know what happens next.

The pacing of each case itself was solid, but sometimes the transitions between them were abrupt. At times I wondered if they were originally a series of short stories that had been rewritten into a full-length novel. I don’t know if this is how it actually happened, but it is how they came across at certain points.

With that being said, the cases themselves captured my attention. Some of them bring out Teddy’s most enduring flaws. Seeing how he attempts to compensate for them over time made me like him and the various people he works with even more. It must be jarring to be interviewed by a walking, talking children’s toy, and the scenes that address this were some of my favourite ones in the entire book.

Teddybear, Teddybear kept me on my toes. This is a great example of how the science fiction and mystery genres can blend together seamlessly, and I’d recommend it to anyone who is a big fan of either one.

She wonders how things got to that point, how had she miscalculated Brian’s true nature. She’s miserable and unhappy, but doesn’t know how to change things. Brian is also a police officer so he’s able to keep constant tabs on her whereabouts, and has managed to thwart any previous attempts of escape. He even hand-cuffs her to a metal rail in the bathroom to stop her from leaving! To put it bluntly, the man is abusive and crazy. But he’s also something she didn’t expect…dangerous.

With her life so controlled and monitored, Luna has to be careful. She has no one to talk to, no one to confide in. How does one escape a lunatic intent on keeping you prisoner both mentally and physically? Knowing she’s probably asking for trouble, Luna begins calling an abuse line from a phone booth and shares her story. Unbeknownst to her, someone else is listening in on her heart-wrenching tale, someone who can change her life.

Cato is so tired of being single. All he wants is to find a mate and have someone to love. While he has no problem finding bed-partners, none of them satisfies the deep longing in his heart. After so much let down, he gave up on meaningless sex and opted to be alone. He spends most of his time listening in on conversations, scanning the internet, and devising means of finding potential mates for his brothers. He spends the rest of his time at the gym. Even though he no longer dances at the nightclub, he still maintains his perfect physique. The men of his world pride themselves upon being strong and muscular. Cato is no exception.

Despite his better judgment, he takes an interest in the sad voice as he listens to the terrible things her boyfriend does. When he tunes into one of her calls and hears a struggle going on, Cato knows the time for eavesdropping is over. He doesn’t know her name, doesn’t know what she looks like, doesn’t even know if she’d be compatible as his mate, but one thing Cato does know is he’s got to save her, one way or another.

Fueled by Lust: Cato, really touched a personal spot in me. Listening to the things Brian did to Luna, the things he said and the way he behaved brought back some bad memories of my own. I really connected with her because I knew her misery, I understood her fears, and I could comprehend her desperation to be free. Unless you’ve been in that sort of relationship, it’s very hard to describe how suffocating and crippling it is. At the same time, I cheered her bravery, held my breath when Brian discovered her, and applauded Cato’s persistence.

Ah Cato, if only there were more of you to go around. Unless I can find this secret vortex to his world, I’m afraid those men are only a myth. Book three of the Fueled by Lust series, this one certainly lives up to the standards of its predecessors. Ms. Celeste Prater has penned another mouth-watering, love-inspiring masterpiece. Once again, I found myself flying through the pages, lost in the characters, and so caught up in the imagery that I failed to notice any editing mistakes, point of view violations, or blatant errors. If they were there, my mind refused to acknowledge them. Like book two, she keeps the main characters in previous stories involved in the plot, while skillfully introducing new ones to enhance the tale.

I guess my only complaint is I need more stories to find out what happens next. There were a few loose ends so I’m hoping that’s Ms. Prater’s intent. If so, I will be first in line for the next installment. Um, Ms. Prater, I believe Maxim needs a mate. We certainly can’t forget about Kallon with his long blond hair. Caelius, Ulixes…in fact, I’d say you have several stories to write. I hope to see some more of Barney as well. I love them little Lemaroks, kind of remind me of my sugar gliders.

All joking aside, Fueled by Lust: Cato, proved to be yet another of Ms. Prater’s gems. I loved every bit, from beginning to end. I feel like Luna is a sister abuse survivor and Cato is a true hero any woman would love to have. Thank you for penning such a touching story. It will likely stay with me for a long while to come.

After the state of Arkansas executes serial killer Dane Peters, the Rest Stop Dentist, his mother discovers that life is darker and more dangerous than she ever expected.

The driving force behind his ghostly return lies buried in his family’s dark past. As Ella desperately seeks a way to lay her son’s troubled soul to rest, she comes face to face with her own failings.

If Ella cannot learn why her son has returned and what he seeks, then the reach of his power will destroy the innocent, and not even his mother will be able to stop him.

Death doesn’t always bring peace, and it isn’t necessarily the end of everything.

The character development in this book is outstanding. Ella is a deeply flawed narrator whose rigid worldview was as realistic for someone with her background as it was frustrating as times. She comes so close to understanding her past only to veer away from the truth once again. Her personality is so well-rounded, though, that I remained completely fascinated by her journey even though I don’t necessarily like her as an individual.

This is a very minor criticism of an otherwise excellent tale, but it would have been helpful to have a few more clues about what is happening as her encounters with her deceased son grow increasingly violent. Some of Ella’s experiences are pretty frightening, yet the other people around her don’t necessarily react to what’s happening the same way she does.

Speaking of violence, there is quite a bit of it in this story. The horror elements in it can be visceral at times. While they work well with the premise and strengths an already incredible plot, this is something I prefer to know ahead of time when poking around in this genre.

The mystery of what Dane wants and how exactly he was able to return from the dead haunted me from the first paragraph to the last one. I can normally figure these things out in advance, but Mr. Lorn’s clues were so skillfully placed that I was pleasantly surprised by how he fit everything together. This was my first introduction to his work, and I’m eager to read more from this talented author.

Life After Dane is as much a chilling mystery as it is dark science fiction. This is a fantastic choice for anyone who prefers the unpredictable side of either genre.

She expected the hike to be difficult: heat, rock slides, rattlesnakes; but when she finds a mangled body in a ravine and a series of suspicious events occur along the trail, the adventure takes a dangerous twist.

Amy Warren has trained for the trip of a lifetime, hiking the Grand Canyon on the rim-to-rim backpacking trail. Her husband of twenty-nine years leaves her a note on the morning of her departure saying that he is divorcing her and that she’d fail on her adventure. Doubts fill Amy’s mind and when the friend who was supposed to accompany her gets injured and can’t come, she thinks about turning back. But then she meets Sarah Rochon in the airport as Sarah helps her wrestle her bag from a thief. The two decide to make the hike together.

This is an action-packed mystery with lots of information about the Grand Canyon and backpacking. I found it absolutely spell-binding both in plot and in scenery. Jeanne Meeks makes her readers feel as if they are hiking up and down the trail right along with Amy and Sarah. Both women are fully defined characters and I really liked them. I especially enjoyed seeing Amy gain confidence as she battles hurdle after hurdle. The two women have to conquer not only all the rigors of the trail and the mishaps along the way, but they are also being pursued by a murderous drug dealer.

There are abundant suspense of all kinds in this novel, from snake bites and twisted knees to rock slides and howling. I really enjoyed watching Amy and Sarah handle all the curves that are thrown at them, and seeing their friendship develop into a real bond, keeping them safe in the most horriifying circumstances. Amy has been totally dominated by her husband and hasn’t had any friends of her own, but she demonstrates tremendous courage and resilience in the face of terrifying dangers. She also makes friends with Ranger Glen Hawk, although she is afraid to promise anything, knowing that she still has her divorce to face.

Mystery lovers, especially those who like strong woman characters, are sure to enjoy Rim-to-Rim.

Gameboard of the Gods introduced religious investigator Justin March and Mae Koskinen, the beautiful supersoldier assigned to protect him. Together they have been charged with investigating reports of the supernatural and the return of the gods, both inside the Republic of United North America and out. With this highly classified knowledge comes a shocking revelation: Not only are the gods vying for human control, but the elect—special humans marked by the divine—are turning against one another in bloody fashion.

Their mission takes a new twist when they are assigned to a diplomatic delegation headed by Lucian Darling, Justin’s old friend and rival, going into Arcadia, the RUNA’s dangerous neighboring country. Here, in a society where women are commodities and religion is intertwined with government, Justin discovers powerful forces at work, even as he struggles to come to terms with his own reluctantly acquired deity.
Erection is slow, viagra sale in india insufficient, weak and has involuntary seminal emissions. Meanwhile, Mae—grudgingly posing as Justin’s concubine—has a secret mission of her own: finding the illegitimate niece her family smuggled away years ago. But with Justin and Mae resisting the resurgence of the gods in Arcadia, a reporter’s connection with someone close to Justin back home threatens to expose their mission—and with it the divine forces the government is determined to keep secret.

Religion and the practices associated with it are highly regulated in the RUNA. So what are praetorian Mae Koskinen and servitor Justin March to do when their jobs take them into a neighboring country whose government is completely based off religious practice? It’s safe to say that their adventure has only just begun.

In this second installment in the Age of X series, we see the return of Justin March, religious investigator for the RUNA’s government. I’ve loved Justin from the moment I first met him in the last novel. Although he hasn’t changed his wild and immature ways, he’s still the same, charming man determined to do whatever it takes to not pledge himself to Odin. However, he does have a great deal of personal growth throughout this novel, a lot of it due to the influence of Tessa, the Panamanian teen he brought home with him in the last novel. Her influence combined with that of Mae and Justin’s sister come together to make him a better, if not less flawed, man.

Mae undergoes a lot of challenges in this novel. Being brought into a country where women are devalued to the point of being worthless, she struggles with keeping her opinions in check and wanting to save every last woman in Arcadia. Her time in Arcadia was probably the most interesting storyline for me. To watch such a strong and independent woman play at being helpless was exciting and also a bit sad. However, seeing her and Justin connect on a more emotional level was worth it in the end.

Two characters introduced in the earlier novel also came back to play, Tessa Cruz and Lucian Darling. This made me very happy because Tessa is lovable and intriguing from the get-go. I enjoyed getting to know her better and watch her learn and grow in the RUNA. Lucian, on the other hand, fascinates me. He seems to teeter between being wonderful and amazing all while having the potential for not so great things. I’m still betting that he’s a good guy at heart, but there’s still that chance he might go to the dark side when we’re not looking.

The Immortal Crown ends leaving you with more questions than answers, but in a good way… if such a thing truly exists. I was shocked and surprised, but also very eager to see just how Justin and Mae are going to deal with all that was revealed at the end. If you have to leave the reader with a cliffhanger, this is exactly how you need to do it – leaving the reader both angry and obsessed with knowing how it’s all going to play out.

Determined to find the truth, before anymore killings, Agent Harmon and Jackie are forced to run a gauntlet of deep trouble and turmoil, which marks them for death.

Murder Most Foul had the makings of a classic whodunit. Two bodies washing up on the riverbank, oddball characters, FBI agent, and to round things off, an amateur sleuth. However, the book didn’t have the I must keeping reading quality for me.

At the beginning of the story we learn a lot about one of the victim’s parents. They’re quirky, well described by the author, and despite their strange behavior and way of thinking, fun to read about. However, I did feel the main characters who actually drive the plot, Agent Walker and Jackie should have entered the story sooner than they did so I could feel some connection to them. I never felt like they were telling me their story and therefore I didn’t feel like cheering them as they worked to solve the crime and stop more killings from taking place.

The setting was great, lots of color added by Ms. Myers as to where this story takes place. Pacing was spot on too. The secondary characters were great and many for this short read.

If you like a quick mystery with some oddball characters thrown in, this might be one for you.

The “what” is Amy Ryba, a vengeful female who’s decided it’s long past time to make Evan pay for his sins. Amy has spent years tracking him down, and the last nine months working in secret to destroy him. She’s ready for anything—except discovering the shifter she hates is her mate.

Suddenly, Evan’s not so very in control, of himself or his pack. And unless Amy can learn to forgive and forget, she’ll have to do the unthinkable: reject her mate.

With two packs watching, one thing is certain. Their personal issues won’t stay personal for long. If Amy and Evan can’t find a way to work together, there won’t be a happily-ever-after for them…or any of the wolves of Whitehorse.

Moon Shine is the latest in Vivian Arend’s Takhini Wolves series, and it is set in the world Ms. Arend has built so well. The characters are well developed and personable, folks you’d like to sit and share a meal and good conversation with of an evening. I enjoy visiting this world, and have spent many evenings visiting with the people that live and love in this place. Ms. Arend combines humor and romance in a most unique manner with her wolves, and I look forward to each of her new stories.

As Alpha of the Takhini Pack, life is usually pretty smooth for Evan Stone. But recently, things have really gotten crazy. First, Caroline went off and got married, leaving her job as manager of most of the packs holdings. Then, Evan got a whiff of his long sought mate, but can’t seem to find her anywhere. Finally, things have gone haywire in all the pack businesses and Evan is told that what was supposed to belong to the pack, doesn’t anymore. Add to that the stress and negotiations of trying to unite the two Whitehorse packs into one unified group, and Evan is really going crazy. Amy Ryba has been wanting revenge on Evan Stone for years, and now, as Alpha of the Canyon Pack in Whitehorse, she is set to put her schemes in motion. He will pay for what he did. But things get complicated when Amy discovers that, of all the wolf shifters in the world, her one destined mate is Evan Stone. When Amy confronts Evan with who she is and why she is out to ruin him, can she accept his reasons for his actions and finally let the past rest in peace. Or will she do the one thing that is almost unheard of in shifter society…reject her mate? Can these two resolve the past and unite the packs to the benefit of everyone?

Amy Ryba is smart, strong and determined to make Evan Stone pay for the pain of her past. She is willing to do whatever it takes to get the revenge she feels is her right, but once she meets Evan, she realizes he is her mate, and she must decide whether she should learn why he did what he did and learn to accept, or turn her back on the one true mate she will ever have. I like that Amy was smart enough to give Evan a chance to explain his actions of the past, and was open minded enough to realize things were not exactly what she had always believed. I like Amy’s sense of loyalty to her friends, and her determination to see that her pack is not ignored in the overall scheme of things.

Evan Stone is strong and easy going, a born leader and Alpha of the Takhini Pack. He is also tortured with nightmares of his past, a past that haunts him and formed his protective nature. He has waited for his mate, watching the rest of his friends find love, and wanting more. He wants to strengthen the two Whitehorse Packs, uniting them into one integrated group. I liked watching as he realized his mate was near, and the things he was willing to do to find her. I liked Evan’s patience when he found Amy, and discovered what she had done in the name of revenge. I also liked that he was willing to open up old wounds to try and put the past behind for Amy as well as himself.

There is suspense, humor and romance in this, with lots of ingenious tricks from Amy and her techno wolves of the Canyon pack, all aimed at Evan and the Takhini Pack. When a serious threat to both Amy and Evan arises, they need to learn to function as equals and as Alphas to keep disaster from ruining both packs forever. I had some giggles and laugh out loud moments here, and some tearful ones as well. The romance is slow to build, but once these two get together, the heat goes off the charts. I recommend this one to shifter lovers and anyone who likes a bit of laughter with their loving.

As a teenager, Toni Murphy had a life full of typical adolescent  complications: a boyfriend she adored, a younger sister she couldn’t relate to, a strained relationship with her parents, and classmates who seemed hell-bent on making her life miserable. Things weren’t easy, but Toni could never have predicted how horrific they would become until her younger sister was brutally murdered one summer night.

Toni and her boyfriend, Ryan, were convicted of the murder and sent to prison.

Now thirty-four, Toni is out on parole and back in her hometown, struggling to adjust to a new life on the outside. Prison changed her, hardened her, and she’s doing everything in her power to avoid violating her parole and going back. This means having absolutely no contact with Ryan, avoiding fellow parolees looking to pick fights, and steering clear of trouble in all its forms. But nothing is making that easy—not Ryan, who is convinced he can figure out the truth; not her mother, who doubts Toni’s innocence; and certainly not the group of women who made Toni’s life hell in high school and may have darker secrets than anyone realizes. No matter how hard she tries, ignoring her old life to start a new one is impossible. Before Toni can truly move on, she must risk everything to find out what really happened that night.

But the truth might be the most terrifying thing of all.

The premise of That Night drew me in. A young girl and her boyfriend are accused of murdering her sister, they are convicted; serve twelve years in prison, but the problem is they didn’t do it.

The story is told in the first person through Toni, one of the accused, and sister of the victim, Nicole. I have to admit, first person is one of my favorite points of view, especially for the mystery genre. It begins with Toni’s release from prison and flashes backward and forward to the time before the murder and then back to present day and Toni’s reintroduction into society.

I really tried to like the character of Toni but have to say I just couldn’t and I think that’s maybe one of the reasons this story didn’t work for me. She came across as her own worst enemy. Yes, she’s the victim of school bullies, parents that seemed to favor her younger sister, but somehow I couldn’t cheer her on her journey to put back her life and maybe find out who did really kill her sibling.

One other thing that I felt weakened the story was most of it was told to us rather than showed. I did like the suspense that was added that maybe Nicole was seeing a man, and that perhaps he had something to do with her death. I was hoping to see more of the mystery unfold once Toni and Ryan met up again, but it seemed like there were coincidences and people finally cracking up under the pressure of their secrets, and I guessed the outcome before it arrived.

What I did like was the dialogue and the pacing was spot on. I also liked the structure of the story, present day, past, and then back to what was happening with Toni. The setting was also a strong point.

One thing that did cross my mind while I was reading That Night was that younger adults, maybe those in the 14-21 age range, would find this a great read and maybe connect with Toni more than I did.

I love the world these ladies built, and am enjoying the antics and lives of this second generation of Compton Pass residents. This world is filled with passion, emotion and lots of fun as well. The heat level in this is high, and the characters are well defined and extremely likable. I like this world, and the people in it, and look forward to more in the future.

Summer is coming to Compton Pass, and for Jade Compton, it looks like more of the same old thing. Jade is restless, looking for something to fill her days and nights, something other than the usual work and family stuff. The daughter of Compton Pass’ sheriff has always lived life full out, looking for the next big challenge. Her cousin will be getting married in a few months, and Jade needs something to occupy her in a new and different way. Liam Harrison has been Jade’s friend for eight years, ever since the night they met by chance at the local cemetery the night of Jade’s sixteenth birthday. Over the years, he has gone from casual friend to someone he cares for a lot. When she expresses her feelings about the summer ahead, Liam surprises her with a challenge of sorts: have a summer fling with him. He hopes that, by the end of summer, he will be able to convince her to take a chance on a future with him, not just a short fling. Can Liam break through Jade’s defenses and show her that she deserves to be happy? Can Jade believe in happy ever after for herself? Will these two get past their pasts and find a future together?

Jade Compton is a willful and determined woman. She has a restless energy, and needs to be busy and active with new challenges. She has always felt that she needs to live twice as hard to experience life for her twin, her brother George, who died at birth. She doesn’t see herself as a desirable woman, and can’t picture a future for herself in a relationship with anyone. When Liam makes his challenge, she isn’t sure what he hopes to accomplish, but she is always willing to try new challenges. I enjoyed watching as Jade slowly came to the realization that Liam actually loves her, and that she actually feels the same for him. I liked the strength she showed in coping with her beloved grandmother’s encroaching problems due to Alzheimer’s disease, and loved the interaction with all of her Compton cousins.

Liam Harrison is strong and loyal, and handsome and sexy as well. He has stood by as Jade has been reckless and daring, and has grown to love her for who she is. He has grown from the young man mourning his lost fiancée to a dependable friend who has matured into the considerate man who realizes, before Jade does, exactly what she really needs from him at this point in her life. I like that he doesn’t try to change her, and wants her just as she is, faults and attitude included. I liked watching as he slowly worked past all of Jade’s defenses, and made a place in her heart.

This is a sexy and hot romance, with challenges for both of these characters. This one made me laugh, made me sigh, and at times it made me cry. There are some really hot scenes, and for those, I recommend air conditioning and ice water to help cool down. I found this to be a delightfully sexy addition to the Compass Girls series, and recommend it to anyone looking for lots of heat and passion.

Condemned by her people, she found a new destiny among the folk of the undying high lord, Milo Morai…

She rode into legend…

Shunned by her own folk as a creature of Evil, Bettylou Hanson found an instant welcome among the people of the Horseclans. Young, healthy, intelligent, and gifted with powerful mindspeak potential, she was everything Milo Morai’s people looked for in a clan member.
Also, men with ED cannot have buy levitra look what i found medicine containing nitrate since it is very dangerous for health. But even Milo himself couldn’t have foreseen the powerful role Bettylou was to play in the future of the Krooguh clan. For the frightened girl whom Tim Krooguh had rescued from certain death was destined to become a living legend among the Kindred, a fighter whose courage would rouse the clans against a foul and dangerous foe…

This story is set in a time after the great disasters in cities. Most folks are back to traveling the prairies just like the Indians did years before. Many of the communities have strange religious beliefs and enforce them with iron fists. Bettylou Hanson lives in one of those communities.

Mundania Press is reissuing the Horseclans series (I’m glad!) that was written in the late 1970’s and into the 1980’s. I noticed two things reading this book: The stories reminded me of the Clan of the Cave Bears series; and, the sexual harassment in the communities reminded me of the cases we’re seeing now in the armed services. As much as things change, they really don’t.

I have one thing I’d have suggested to Mr. Adams. Bettylou is just not a name I’d expect to see in this time period. All the men have unusual names; why not do that for his strong female character? It doesn’t affect the story telling, just seemed incongruous to me.

The Elder in the community Bettylou grew up in had the ultimate right to sleep with all the young women as they came of age. If they had the misfortune to get pregnant, they were beaten, made to do the worst jobs and had their hair cut off and their heads are died a brilliant color. They live there until the baby arrives, then the sex of the baby determines if it is added to the community (male) or thrown out (female) with its mother. Nice folks, aren’t they?

In her case, another tribe attacks them and takes her as a hostage. She’s treated with suspicion until they learn about her story and then she’s accepted into the group. I enjoyed watching her grow up and become the warrior woman she turned into. She was married, had more children, watched her husband and children die, and just kept fighting.

The story is fascinating and interesting. Mr. Adams knew how to grab your attention and keep it. I also liked his ending. It’s a bit magical and just the right touch for dear Bettylou.  Reading about strong women characters always makes me happy. I’d suggest you give this series a try.
