NYPD Detective Claire Codella has just won a tough battle with cancer. Claire is just returning to work after a long battle with cancer. The cancer almost won. She’s looking forward to coming back to her desk and settling back into the routine of the job. But she gets a phone call instead. She’s thrown right into the middle of a new murder case.

Ms. Smith does a very good job of character building. Claire was a very competent cop who solved a very big case right before the cancer hit. Her boss doesn’t like her because it got her promoted and he was made to look like a fool. He’s got in for her.

He sends her to help a new officer in homicide. The officer is gay and it doesn’t take long for the other boys to find out. They call him the Rainbow Dick. He’s a good cop, will do as he’s told, and he’s on Claire’s side. She might be the token female but he’s also the token gay cop.

The more they interview people, the less they know. This is a complicated plot with lots of players. The author weaves the story, picks up another thread and weaves in and I ended up with no idea who the killer was. At the end I was beginning to suspect one of them but the other one flabbergasted me. What some people will do for money amazes me.

The story flows well, the mix of people is amazing, and greed and lust walk among them. Ms. Smith makes the story believable even if it’s unpredictable. You’ll meet a lot of unethical people in this book. The sad truth is there are a lot of them in the world nowadays. At least the author gives them their comeuppance in this story. If only you could do that in real life.

Twenty years ago, Rebecca Bennett’s father raped and killed Jack Conroy’s sister. Adopted and her name changed after the tragedy, Becca is desperately searching for her brother, Kevin, who has vanished. He is, as was their father, paranoid schizophrenic, and the string of rapes that is terrorizing the city started only days after he disappeared.

Jack Conroy, Tulsa Police Department detective, is focused with razor sharp intensity on the hunt for the serial rapist whose violence is increasing with every offense. For Jack, it’s personal; he sees his sister’s face in every victim. Aware of Becca only as a trauma therapist, Jack asks her to aid the investigation by working with the original rape survivors. She agrees, and soon her secrets and her life are on the line.

We inherit many things from our biological parents. Whether it be medical conditions or passed on sins either can be a very heavy burden for some off springs to bare. Rebecca and Kevin are two children that carry their father’s haunting sin every day of their lives. Kevin is being treated for mental illness, the same mental illness that plagued his father. Because of her father’s sin, Rebecca, a clinical social worker, has made it her career to help those that have been sexually violated.

Told in such an intense and gripping fashion, this story moved at such a steady pace that I really didn’t notice how long I spent reading it. The characters were strategically placed about the story but not a clue to who the rapist/killer is. Well maybe Rebecca did give clues when she gave a profile reading of the suspect. I’m just being honest I really didn’t find out until the author actually revealed the name of the suspect. I think the entire plot is very interesting in how the sins of fathers carry on into their children in different ways, and how the rapist picked his victims was a interesting shocker to me. I thoroughly enjoyed the author’s writing style. The way she writes is like a reader’s dream…visual surroundings painted so clear, enjoyable characters and a solid thought out plot. Oh and wow I can’t forget the love scene, it was so poetic. The build up of attraction, the intimate touch; this is how a love scene is suppose to be. I enjoyed this story so I’m inclined to read more from this author.

This is a very suspenseful and entertaining read. The writing created a visual that is easy to place yourself in. The characters were described as if they were actual and true people. I enjoyed the attraction between Rebecca and officer Jack Conroy. The secret between them is a very sensitive one and I often found myself wondering how it would play out. However the author did an awesome job in working their issue out. I felt for Rebecca, she is a woman that has a huge kind and loving heart; she wasn’t looking for happiness but she surely did deserve some. Her concern for her brother, her niece and all the women she met through her work and the time she spent volunteering showed her caring spirit. She didn’t have a life of hanging out with the girls, shopping or vacationing, she spent her time in soup kitchens, feeding and caring for the homeless in the area.

The context of rape, murder and mental illness is unfortunately something we see in our world today, but for the author to intertwine such topics into a novel and still have good to over power these unnecessary evils makes for a good read. I must add that I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t much action as I thought there would be when the rapist was caught. Jack was a one man army that took the perp down with not much hassle.

Catherine didn’t just give us a romance story but she built an entirely bigger story around it. Though the subject matter maybe disturbing for some, this is a winning novel that is definitely worth recommending.

But Paul comes with baggage. His ultra-conservative family wants him paired up with a woman, not a man with Logan’s rainbow connection. When their anti-LGBT crusade spills beyond managing Paul’s love life and threatens the holiday festival, Kyle and Paul must fight for everyone’s happily ever after, including their own.

Heidi Cullinan is easily one of my all-time favorites for M/M small town romance. I enjoy that she addresses the prejudices that can crop up in small town USA and that she meets it head on with characters that aren’t afraid to love each other despite the world around them.

Snow penises, that’s what sold this book for me, the cute way that Kyle and Paul finally saw each other as a possibility, the moment that Paul realizes that Kyle is all grown up. Kyle is the smaller of the two men, but he’s definitely in charge. I loved this about him, he’s not afraid to be everything Paul needs to fall in love and be happy.

The way that a good chunk of the town works hard to help Kyle woo Paul made me smile, and I loved catching up with past characters and the way they supported each other. I so want to visit Logan Minnesota myself, after reading this book, too bad it’s fictional.

For a good small town romance with a MM twist, look no further than Winter Wonderland, it has quirky characters, a warm fuzzy feeling and leaves the reader craving some Christmas cheer.

One of the first things I noticed about this tale was how concisely the dialogue was written. It was used to share a lot of information with the audience about where the characters came from and what they were planning to do in the near future. What really caught my attention, though, was that the author accomplished this without slowing down the plot. He was able to pack quite a few details into short conversations which was helpful.

I would have liked to see much more time spent on character development. The narrator relied heavily on common tropes to give the audience a quick impression of what the characters were like and how they behaved. These impressions felt too stereotypical to me, though, because of how often they were used and how rarely they were challenged. It would have been fascinating to peel back at least a few stereotypes so that I could see the parts of the characters’ personalities that weren’t given a chance to shine here.

The subplots were woven nicely into the main storyline. There was a lot going on in this novel, but everything was connected so seamlessly that I never had a problem keeping up with any of it. Seeing the main character balance so many different issues simultaneously actually made a great deal of sense. His line of work requires those kinds of juggling acts in order to keep a hospital running.

It took a while for me to figure out which genre this book belongs to. The mystery elements of the plot didn’t show up right away, but once they did I completely understood why the author had spent so much time setting everything up first. It was definitely worth the wait.

I’d recommend The CareTAKERS to anyone who is in the mood for a medical mystery.

Everyone said they married too young, and they were right. He could be a bigger part of their daughter’s life, though, so she tracks him down—and is shocked to discover he’s working at a Texas sex therapy ranch. She reserves a week of something tall, dark, and cowboy for herself, planning to use her down time to talk to Booker.

Once alone, their animal attraction flares back to life. But time hasn’t healed the emotional wounds that still run deep. And renewing their old bond could be the biggest mistake they ever made…

I loved this amazing story! It was a panty-scorching read that kept me engaged from beginning to end.

Cowboy Not Included is book six in Em Petrova’s fantastic Boot Knockers Ranch Series. It can be read as a stand alone novel.

This is Booker’s love story, and it was a super hot read that lived up to all my expectations. Now, everyone who’s read this series absolutely knows who Booker is …. he’s the King of sex toys. As the story opens we learn a bit about Booker’s past ; he has an ex-wife that he still loves, and an adorable little daughter that he hasn’t seen in a long time. He’s heartbroken that he lost them both. His ex-wife, Skye, is a good single mom, but lately she’s been thinking about Booker, and wishes that he was a part of little Findlee’s life. She tracks him down to the Boot Knockers Ranch. Booker never stopped thinking about Skye, so imagine his surprise when she turns up at the ranch to talk things over, and looking for some cowboy sex therapy for herself. That’s when he takes control of the situation, it seems that Booker is a very possessive man.

There was a true connection between Booker and Skye, and not just because of the hot sex, or their daughter either. Their love had never died, even though they both made mistakes. Booker was a hopeless flirt and Skye was overly jealous. They got their second chance, and Booker was still reluctant to tell Skye everything about his sexual preferences, until eventually he gave her one eye opening show.

Mercy ! Em Petrova wrote an excellent and steamy story with this one. Cowboy Not Included was a sweet second chance at love romance, but it was sinfully sexy, with all kinds of decadent intimacies. You name it and it was in this book.

In short, I was delighted by this book, and can’t wait for the next one in the series.

When Kendra Murdoch’s brother in law murders her sister, she takes charge of her nephew and two nieces. Fearing the man plans the same fate for her, she seeks shelter in Radford Crossing where she opens a café to support her small family.

Determined to be self-sufficient, Kendra shuns all advances from the handsome sheriff as danger hangs heavily over her head.

Butch Parrish battled a snowstorm and a killer to rescue Kendra and the children. He’ll do whatever is necessary to protect the independent young woman who rekindles sensations he hoped were dead long ago. Protecting her, dealing with the town gossips and investigating a stagecoach robbery, Butch has a battle on his hands.

Winter Bride is an action-packed western that combines beautifully with a heartfelt, and not entirely predictable, romance.

Late nineteenth century Texas: its a tough country, and peopled by some seriously tough characters.

Sheriff Butch Parrish is the tough town sheriff, surrounded by some of the types of characters one might expect. He’s not entirely what we reader’s might expect though. He’s obviously dedicated to his job and also quick to step up and be the person to help. We readers find him admirable from the start.

However, the lovely Kendra isn’t one to be swept away. She has her own responsibilities, and more than a little heartbreak and fear to deal with. She isn’t going to be an easy one to save. Kendra is determined to take care of herself and the children she’s inherited from her sister. Her deadly brother-in-law isn’t about to leave her in piece – but this is more than a family battle – because this is the west.

Texas in the late nineteenth century is an adventurous sort of place in its own right; the sort of place that tests its inhabitants. Storms, terrain and isolation all bring the own challenges. A difficult woman might be more than one man wants to take on.

Butch, the sheriff is more than a decent guy, though. You can’t but fall for the big guy, who’s so much more than a heart-throb; big, determined, yet kind. He’s wonderful, apart from his great desire to help, of course. Kendra’s effort to take care of all, on her own, might have been achievable, apart from her brother-in-law’s evil intentions.

Conversations, setting, interaction of the children, as well as the occasional very light touch of humor is all just right!

Winter Bride  offers a real western pioneering flavor. Sorting the large number of characters occasionally slows what otherwise would be a fast-paced western. However, its a small point of complaint. I do think anyone who enjoys a good western romance OR adventure should put Winter Bride right at the top of their reading list.

It seems like a simple hoax, except that if Houseman doesn’t track down the professor’s co-conspirators, the consequences will be anything but simple–and the harm that will result could be global in Harstad’s gripping new installment in his outstanding series.

November Rain is the sixth book by the author that features his sleuth, Carl Houseman who’s a deputy sheriff in Iowa. I hadn’t read any of the other books and was somewhat worried I wouldn’t get caught up to speed on the character well enough to enjoy this story. However, that wasn’t the case. Within one chapter I felt like I knew who Carl was. The author does a great job giving insight into his personality. I knew that he loves his job, takes it seriously, and sometimes says things that made me laugh. I really enjoyed the opening scene where it seems Carl will do anything to wrangle his way out of taking the assignment in London.

Lucky for the reader, his superior won’t take no for an answer. Carl heads to the UK and is thrown into a situation that becomes larger than life. It’s a sort of fish out a water scenario which I think made it a fun read. I thought all the scenes featuring Carl were great but when he wasn’t on the scene, it sort of switched to a narrator that I felt put some distance between me and the person whose head I was in, and was my only dislike of the book.

It’s a fast paced tale and has twist and turns and a story that’s very relevant to today’s unsettled world. Mr. Harstad did a great job creating characters who found themselves suddenly caught up in trouble they hadn’t seen coming which gave it a page turning quality.

If you’re a fan of small town mysteries that combine themes from today’s headlines then I think this one would be ideal for your fall reading.

If you love erotic romance with a side of mystery, this might be the book for you.

It’s a ménage with a very suspenseful mystery. I found the story portrayed the characters very well and the writing was good enough that it plunged me into their world enough to fall in love with the characters.

The plot and the characters shone through and that is sometimes difficult for me to say about an erotic novel. Why? In many books, the erotic writing and the sex scenes tend to overshadow everything, but in Strength of Arms there was passion, chemistry and sex that worked and a strong story. The main plot offset the amount of heat that these three characters gave off and it was a good balance.

Strength of Arms is perfect for readers who love erotic stories with a little bit of something else as well.

A fast paced novella set in outer space with a love story between three people who find and connect in a world that the future is constantly changing. Both sci-fi with a touch of paranormal because of the ghosts, I definitely loved Luxi as a character. She’s a great character because she knows what she wants from her future, rescues herself and yet is able to bend a bit in order to change her destiny and fall in love.

Amun is suave, capable and definitely in control of both of his lovers. Leto is a unique character because he has a human soul/ghost inside of a cyborg. I kind of loved that about him, that he was very human and yet not. I also loved the way Luxi meets both men separately and yet falls for them both, and it helps the triad work well for them.

This is a novella, set in a world I’ve visited before, yet it is easily read as a delicious stand alone. There is a relationship between all three characters including some very sexy scenes between Amun and Leto. I enjoyed every scene, and I would gladly read a full length story with these three.

I highly recommend this story to fans of sci-fi menage romance who like when all three characters fully love each other.

I’ve not read the other books in this series, but didn’t have trouble following the story. I do think I would have had a much richer experience if had already been acquainted with these characters, but I still very much enjoyed what I read.

Cady and Doyle are a deeply devoted couple, engaged when we meet them and obviously utterly smitten with one another. However, secrets surface and problems arise that affect their relationship so all is not roses and sweetness.

There is a very light inspirational tone to this story, but nothing terribly overt or preachy, meaning I think this would appeal to all who enjoy the historical romance/mystery genre. And, honestly, it was quite refreshing to read a book that was all about the story and less about how many ways can we get the couple into bed.

The mystery is about white slavery of a sort, and a prostitution ring. The villains are horrible and my heart broke for the first victim we meet, right at the start. The author’s voice and ability is clear and descriptive, and I felt as if I was right in the room with her. My hands ached to help her and it definitely set up the story in a strong manner.

There were a few places where the story is a bit draggy. After that incredibly intense prologue, we meet Cady and Doyle and while it was wonderful to see them and, of course, we readers need the introduction, it rather put the brakes on the forward movement. The first chapter or two were a bit slow, but once the investigation really started, things got moving again and it was all about turning pages to see what happens.

The author has a rich appreciation for the time and her voice is clear and interesting. She is very good at putting the reader right into the story as opposed to “telling” it, and while this was the first of her books I’ve read, it likely won’t be the last.

Again, fans of historical mysteries with a taste of romance should enjoy this book immensely. Definitely recommended!
