I’m going to mail this book to my mother. She was the one that got me hooked on romance books and this is more her type of book than mine. She enjoys historical romances of adventure and faith. The kind of love story that warms your heart while inspiring your love for God. Tales that leave you with more than just a happily ever after. It’s one of hope, justice and redemption in Jesus Christ.

I know my mom would enjoy the characters that displayed endurance through hardships through prayer while showing discipleship to others. Her favorite television show was Little House on the Prairie.

The Outlaw’s Second Chance
would meet all her expectations and more. Not only was it well written, it was also entertaining. I just know she’d recommend this book to her Christian friends.

Speaking for myself, I prefer a book with a little bit more sensual chemistry between the hero and heroine. Perhaps that’s why my mom prays for my soul, LOL. The hero, Cort Stanton, has a past that he’s running from. Aubrey Huxley, the heroine, is also running from her past but they are both running for completely different reasons and looking for different outcomes. They are both stubborn and pigheaded so it was interesting to see how they could overcome their obstacles, to be able to give their hearts to each other. Praise God they saw the light.

I have to be transparent. I obtained this book out of desperation. I forgot to bring a book on our camping trip. I found a lending library box at the camp store. It was the only romance paperback there and the cover looked aesthetically pleasing. The synopsis on the back sounded interesting so I snagged it. I didn’t even realize it was a Christian romance. I’ve read a few in my lifetime so I gave it a try. What choice did I have? I needed something to pass the time. The best thing about taking that chance was the outcome; I was pleased because it ended up being a good read. Yes, there was scripture written in the story but it wasn’t holier than thou, in your face, making me feel like a sinner who needed to repent, kind of book.

In conclusion, if you love innocent, sweet, Christian books then this one is a winner. I’ve never read a book by Angie Dicken before but I’d consider reading another book by her. I can easily recommend The Outlaw’s Second Chance.

The naive, misguided rascals in this charming collection of short stories wear their hearts on grubby, unwashed sleeves. From the boy who masters the art of conducting herons to the boy who just wants to be left to his daydreams, they long for a better life only to be led astray by talking animals, charismatic strangers, and their own too vivid imaginations.

The park can be a marvelous place to live.

It was easy to forget that these tales were about ten separate boys because every one of them had the same naive, mischievous, and insatiably curious personality. Not only that, the background details of their lives were either nonexistent or so vague that one boy’s life story often blended into the next. Even their names were a mystery. I’ve never read a collection like this and truly enjoyed jumping from one world to the next while knowing that the protagonists would always be comfortingly predictable.

One thing I do wish the author had been more clear about were the time periods everything was set in. Some characters seemed to live centuries ago when orphans were left to live on the streets in large cities and fended for themselves from very tender ages. Other characters had a much more modern feel to them. Even these were educated guesses, though, as the narrator was always reluctant about explaining background information clearly. That made it hard at times to picture who the protagonists were and why they were so alone in the world.

There were so many genres represented in this book that I’d be hard-pressed to narrow it down to only one. Some of the boys lived in gentle fantasy worlds. Others were more firmly rooted in the horror, paranormal, or mystery genres. It was pretty interesting to move between all of these different types of storytelling as well to shift from what appeared to be the past and the present.

A Boy in a Park: Tales of Wonder and Despair was a mesmerizing collection that I’d recommend to anyone who loves being given a lot of freedom to come up with their own interpretations about what’s happening in a plot.

A mission has gone almost deadly wrong in Afghanistan. Special Forces military working dog handler Chris Gonzalez and his K-9 partner, Delta Alpha, are sent home to heal after being injured during an operation. The military has decided Delta Alpha can no longer continue as an active military working dog, but Chris refuses to leave him behind.

Coming home to Nyack isn’t something he expected to do so soon, but in order to help his partner heal, he needs to do so with the help of the new local veterinarian, a woman who seems to have a dark history of her own.

Juliette Graham had only wanted to escape her past and start over, this time with a new life and a new name. She didn’t expect to find two males, one human, one canine, burrowing under her skin so quickly.

That’s the problem with secrets, though…they often have a habit of catching up when people least expect it…

Juliette Graham is a victim of extreme domestic violence at the hands of her husband, Manuel. She is going through a case to get away from her with the help of her lawyer Sunny, who is the one that helped her get away from Manuel. Her case will allow her to change her name to Samantha Eagin, get a new Social Security Number, and a new start on life.

Christopher Gonzalez and his military working dog Delta Alpha are part of a special forces unit stationed in Afghanistan. They are part of a crack team that jump from airplanes to be able to sneak up on their targets easier. They are on a mission to destroy and kill a tribal leader to Al Qaeda, Tayseer Al-Lidi, who earned himself a spot on the American’s Most Wanted Terrorists list. The mission went great for a while, until it all went to hell while they were trying to escape. As they were about to depart, Delta Alpha or more commonly known as Dumb Ass, ignored his orders to board and went back to Chris. He ended up saving him from several gunshots and an explosion. The worst thing that ever happened to Chris was seeing his dog so limp and injured saving him from certain death.

I enjoy the character of Chris, a man of extreme loyalty, courage, bravery, and the ability to know what he wants and to pursue it until the end. A great example of his loyalty is when he finds out that Dumb Ass was injured seriously but luck was on his side as none of the bullets had entered any essential organs, but he is now suffering from PTSD. He would not be able to continue being a military working dog and Chris was given two options, put Dumb Ass to sleep or adopt him. For Chris it was a no brainer, he would not leave his partner and made the hard decision to adopt him. He knows that it is not going to be easy trying to help his dog and himself adapt to civilian life. On top of that, he had to decide his own future as he is wondering if he should re-enlist. You can tell that he is getting tired of going through certain death situations and the last mission opened his eyes. They figure that their last mission went so wrong because there was a mole hiding somewhere in the CIA. He is also dealing with his own PTSD after that last mission, which is one reason he is wondering if he should re-enlist.

He wants to have his dog’s new veterinarian set up before he comes and calls his brother to see if he could find one in his hometown in New York. Luckily for him Samantha had just opened her own veterinarian clinic as that had always been her dream.

You can’t help but admire Samantha’s strength as she is becoming a brand-new person, learning how to become independent after being controlled so long by her ex-husband. A great example of this is opening her clinic and deciding to take in Dumb Ass even though she has no experience in treating a dog with PTSD. Yet, she has a big heart and a ton of courage and figures with the research she has done and with the help of Chris, whose has been with his dog for two years and knows him in and out, she’ll be able to help. She also found out she was pregnant and even though it was unplanned, she is going to do the best she can raising her child on her own.

When Chris and Samantha meet each other for the first time, you can already get the sense of attraction, especially when he gave her a nickname–Red–after only a few moments. It was also sweet seeing how Chris handled Dumb Ass when they were at the vet for the first time, she could see the love a trust between them, breaking her heart a little. Dumb Ass also seems to take a liking to her when he first meets her, even giving a lick to her.

I absolutely adore Chris’s family, as each on had been adopted by the Gonzalez family and are extremely close. It seems that everyone that meets the family is drawn into the love that overflows the home and the ties that bind each brother to each other. Their mother makes sure her sons know how much she cares for them and so does their father. For example, when he went to their house, he was enveloped a much-needed hug, spoiled with a great dinner, and watching sports with his father with a beer and getting the gossip of all his other brothers lives.

Things became interesting when Chris comes back home to his cabin and his gut and instincts let him know something was wrong. He feels so wary that he ends up calling squad leader, Dean Davis, and asking if any of the team had checked in. Chris is drawn into an idea of building a special unit to keep other special operatives from going through the same issues that his team had. As it turns out his instincts were right when he spots Tayseer around the town, but his frustration his palpable when he couldn’t pinpoint an exact location.

Luckily, his brother, Dwayne is a private investigator which comes in handy when Samantha’s ex-husband shows up. Again, Chris’s emotions get the better of him and even though he can’t place what they all meant; he did know that he couldn’t lose her.

It’s surprising how well Dumb Ass starts to heal, with Samantha and Chris’s attention and love. Chris finds it amusing and happy that Dumb Ass has taken such a shine to her and is often seen to protect her.

After that Chris brings her to his cabin and the rest of his team descends upon him. Again, the love and adoration are shown in every moment they share. His family also takes her in, just like the other strays that come along. You can feel her emotions as she feels what she has been missing for so long, the protection and the love of a strong family that enfolds her.

The only thing that I have a problem with this story is how fast the relationship develops between Chris and Samantha. They both realize it though so that does help but in only a few weeks they end up in bed together, which surprised me especially considering her past. It’s also amazing how fast Dumb Ass heals.

This is a wonderful story that shows how a dog that needs help can bring two people together. It also shows how a woman can gain her own independence after a horrible tragedy. She also ends up helping Chris overcome his own problems, to me they bring strength to each other.  A wonderful story for those that love dogs and a wonderful family that sticks together no matter the circumstances.

Four friends, a roadtrip and an interesting addition…what can go wrong?

I knew when I picked up this book I’d like it. Why? I like the writing style of Chris Colfer. It’s choppy in spots, but it’s witty and sounds like teens talking. It really does. I sped right through this book and cried at the end. It kept my attention and made me feel for the characters.

I won’t get into a lot of details, but there is a little bit for everyone. Sam is transgender and trying to sort himself out. Mo has ideas that don’t match those of her father. Topher wants to be the responsible one and is giving up on some of his dreams to help care for his brother with a handicap. Then there’s Joey. He’s gay and hasn’t come out yet. Oh, and Cash. Cash is the celebrity that just so happens to come along on the trip. I have to admit, I thought the story would go one way and the author kept up enough twists and turns to keep me guessing. I liked it. While the ending made me cry, it was exactly how the book should’ve ended. I’m glad, too.

If you want a book that’s fast-paced, fun in spots and sad in others, but worth the read, then this might be the one you’re looking for. Recommended.

In this whimsical, often funny, Depression-era tale, young Connor O’Halloran decides to share a treasure he’s discovered on an isolated stretch of Northern California beach. Almost overnight, his sleepy seaside village is comically transformed into a bastion of consumerism, home to a commode with a jeweled seat cover, a pair of genuinely fake rare documents, a mail-order bride, and an organ-grinder’s monkey named Mr. Sprinkles. But when it turns out that the treasure is not real, Connor must conspire with Miss Lizzie Fryberg and a handful of town leaders he’s dubbed The Ambergrisians to save their friends and neighbors from financial ruin. Along the way, he discovers other treasures in the sometimes languid, sometimes exciting days of that long-ago season. He is rich and then he isn’t. He learns to sail a boat and about sex. He meets a real actor. He sneaks into villainous Cyrus Dinkle’s house and steals his letter opener. He almost goes to jail. He loves Fiona Littleleaf. He finds a father. And best of all, he and little brother, Alex, reclaim their mother from the darkness of mental illness.

The characterization and character development were handled marvellously. This book had a large cast of characters, but I felt like I got to know everyone intimately because of how descriptive the author was when he talked about their appearances, habits, personalities, and personal histories. Everyone I met in this small town was a unique, three-dimensional human being, including the folks that sometimes acted like villains!

There were a few times when I thought have a ten-year-old narrate this story wasn’t necessarily the most realistic choice. Conner was raised by a single mom whose mental illness meant that she gave both of her kids far more responsibility and freedom than many children have at their ages. Even still, Conner was regularly privy to conversations and adult interpersonal conflicts that weren’t meant for people his age. This was particularly true when it came to the adult’s solution for how to deal with a notorious swindler. As amusing as it was to see his reaction to this, it was something that a child really shouldn’t have been included in. With that being said, I still enjoyed reading the now-adult Connor’s interpretation of what happened during that period in his life.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much humor was packed into the plot. While the main storyline and setting were serious, Conner found plenty of opportunities to share the lighter side of life in Tesoro during the Great Depression. Honestly, these scenes were instrumental in my decision to give this a four star review. Those small moments of unexpected humor endeared me to the characters and made me even more eager to find out if they’d find a way to avoid utter financial ruin for their small, close-knit community.

Treasure of the Blue Whale was a thoughtful book I’d recommend to anyone who loves small towns, nostalgia, or watching characters seek justice in unconventional ways.

The four work together to find Knox, but their past—the secrets, the guilt, the regrets—isn’t so easy to resolve. Can they save the child they share and heal old wounds, or will their happily ever after slip away yet again?

This book is about second chances and what to do when you get them. Farrah made her choice long ago, when she was a lot younger and didn’t have as much of an idea about what to do. She didn’t have it easy but she made it work. That’s okay until her son disappears.

This is one of the shorter books in the series but there is still a great story here. I would have preferred it to be a bit longer but that’s just my preference. I loved the relationship between the three alphas together and the three with Farrah.

I wasn’t too sure about the big bad in this one. With it being a novella, it wasn’t completely clear who he was or what he had done, just that he wasn’t ‘nice’. It would have been better if that had been fleshed out a bit more but then the word count may have gone up!

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read. It’s great being in their world, even though none of the other characters from previous books made a showing here. If you are after a quick coffee-break book then I have no hesitation in recommending this one or the series as a whole.

Valerie must make her choice, deciding between the brother who will lead her down the path of destruction, or one who will give her a love she couldn’t find in her own time.

When a woman accidentally travels back in time several centuries, things are not what one would expect. Valerie, a modern-day woman, finds herself back in the year 1605, in England, during the time of James I/VI. She meets two charming, handsome brothers who show interest in her.

Interestingly, she chooses one rather early in the book but is still close to the other brother. Valerie marries her new love and becomes pregnant; then tragedy strikes. Her husband becomes involved in the Gunpowder Plot, a plan to blow up the king and parliament because of repressive policies toward Catholics. What happens next is a tearjerker and makes this novel not so much a romance as a time-travel story with heavy romantic elements.

Valerie and one brother have to make a hard choice, and they find that being related to a “traitor” has terrible repercussions. They must leave England forever. They get on a ship and head to the primitive Jamestown settlement in Virginia (Note: the author used a little artistic license with the historical dates here, but it worked).

Throughout the story, Valerie’s sister tries to find her missing sister in the present. Working in the art field, she comes across an old portrait of her sister from the seventeenth century and is shocked. She will make a decision carrying heavy risk and try to find her sister, setting up a nice transition into the next book.

The twists and turns keep things moving swiftly. The setting is well-written, rich with historical details, and the characters are realistic and likeable. This is an entertaining read.

She can feel it every time she closes her eyes, and she can see it in her dreams. A door, locked deep within her consciousness. A past, distant, yet not forgotten. And a darkness, struggling desperately to break free.

Return to the world of the Enlai!

First, I strongly advise reading the first book in the series, The Nexus Mirror, before reading The Legend of Solis. Many of the characters and events are connected. I fear readers will be lost if they try to jump into the series at this point. It is definitely worth the time to go back and read the first book!

As with the first novel, Mr. Michael has chosen to tell the story from multiple viewpoints. Again, this works very well to show the story unfolding in different places from different characters’ viewpoints before bringing it all together at the end. All the transitions are clearly marked and never confusing.

This installment also introduces quite a few new characters. I still had the opportunity to catch up with characters from The Nexus Mirror, but I’ll admit I was hoping to see more of my favorites. I would have liked to spend more time following Yuran in particular. His story was quite compelling in the first book, and he became one of my favorite characters. While I did get to spend some time reading about Yuran in this book, his chapters had a bittersweet feeling to them this time around.

It is great to see the Enlai working together. They have spent so much time fighting each other in the past, but now is the time to put aside their differences. They will need to work together to face a threat greater than anything they’ve ever seen. I must warn readers sensitive to violence that this book does contain graphic violence, a lot of fighting, and large battle scenes. The fate of main characters never feels secure. I admit I teared up a time or two as I read!

I’m glad I had the opportunity to continue reading this series. The ending of this novel is very satisfying, but the story is far from over. There are still evil forces at work that have yet to reveal themselves. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

This story may be originally from 2006 but the characters, story, plot and happy ever after are as entertaining and worth reading as ever. I adore discovering older romances because not only can I get them at a bargain price, novels like this are awesome brain candy and perfect escapism – something I find myself in need of these days.

This story is a classic – older brother protecting his younger brother from a gold digger. Of course, things are not always as they seem, assumptions are made, wires are crossed and rampant emotions muck up a perfectly innocent situation. It’s how the author has her characters jump through hoops, the dialogue between everyone, both internal and external, and the supporting cast’s roles that make this story work.

The triangle is between Emma, Piers and Lawrence. Emma thinks Lawrence is being wronged, Piers thinks Emma is in the wrong, Lawrence convinces Emma that Piers is in the wrong and Emma finds out that both of them in their own way are in the wrong about her. Now how is this going to work out? Why is everyone in the wrong? Is everyone taking advantage of each other in different aspects? Just where is that money that everyone is all concerned about coming from and going to? The trail is blurred by assumptions and the truth causes Piers to experience stunned shock. Serves him right. I enjoy seeing an arrogant alpha male have the wind taken out of his sails. It’s how he handles it that makes him either a hero or a jerk.

The Wealthy Man’s Waitress has a satisfying happy ever after once the whole unvarnished truth is revealed. Piers finally figures out why he was so obsessed with Emma and Emma sees Piers isn’t the ice man she thought him initially, in fact he is the exact opposite of ice; and Lawrence is finally seen as the man he truly is. Everything works out and all is right in the world of romance. I’m a satisfied reader.

In my previous post I buy cialis online http://pharma-bi.com/2009/11/understanding-customer-feedback-how-visualizations-quickly-guide-us-to-useful-conclusions/ discussed about the premature orgasm in females? I think we’ve never discussed on the topic about female orgasm. Kieran agrees to take on the wild omega as a favor, not wanting her to end up as property in the system. He never expects to fall for her, but when two other alphas, Kane and Marshall, show up to compete for her affection, he can’t deny how he feels.

In an alternate universe where everyone is an Alpha, Omega, or Beta, things can get a bit tricky! We met Tiffany and Kieran in book one but Kane and Marshall bring an extra bit of sparkle with them.

Tiffany is rescued from a bad situation but has to go to hospital for treatment where she meets Marshall. He is the ‘calm’ one of the bunch. He keeps a tight rein on his emotions, fearing he will become like his father. Kane is a friend of Tiffany’s who she has only ever spoken to over the phone. And Kieran is the one who holds Tiffany’s contract. When the three of these get together to try and protect Tiffany from an unknown threat, sparks fly and everyone gets hurt!

I enjoyed this book and loved reading about the characters and their histories. I found Tiffany to be a very well-written character as she tries to figure out who she is and what she wants. She was a tad annoying at times but then, what nineteen-year-old isn’t? They all have baggage in their pasts and it takes the four of them as a unit to work through some of the problems.

This was a great addition to the series that I enjoyed reading. Full of steam, sass, and sheer alpha-ness that I can definitely recommend.
