Meet Ruby–a happy, curious, imaginative girl. But one day, she finds something unexpected: a Worry.

It’s not such a big Worry, at first. But every day, it grows a little bigger . . . And a little bigger . . . Until eventually, the Worry is ENORMOUS and is all she can think about.

But when Ruby befriends a young boy, she discovers that everyone has worries, and not only that, there’s a great way to get rid of them too . . .

This perceptive and poignant story is the perfect springboard for talking to children about emotional intelligence and sharing hidden anxieties.

It’s never too early to start talking about uncomfortable emotions.

One of the things I adored the most about Ruby’s Worry was how open-ended it was. Rather than explaining precisely what was bothering her, the narrator left plenty of space for us readers to come up with our own theories about exactly what was bothering her. This meant that it was easy for me to put myself in her shoes and imagine various things that I worried about when I was her age! Honestly, the precise thing she was worried about was much less important than how it felt for her to carry it around and slowly watch it grow bigger.

Even very young children should learn about healthy coping mechanisms for their scary thoughts. I enjoyed seeing Ruby try various things to cope with her worry, especially as it grew bigger and harder to manage. These scenes were written with so much compassion and kindness that i wouldn’t hesitate to read them to any little one who might be interested.

The best part of this picture book had to do with who helped Ruby with her problem. No, I can’t go into detail about this without sharing a plot twist, but I can say that the author’s decision to move the storyline into this direction was an excellent one. This isn’t something I’ve seen done very often in this genre. It was refreshing to find it here.

This is part of the Big Bright Feelings series, but it works perfectly well as a standalone read.

I wholeheartedly recommend Ruby Finds a Worry to readers of all ages who have ever quietly worried about something.

Amina is torn between their growing love and her need to return to Earth with proof of the existence of aliens.

Captivated, Hami finds himself questioning everything he believed about humans. Yet he and Amina are literally from different worlds. Can he find a future with a human woman who makes him want to be more than just a warrior of Kilfane? Especially when her people abducted his sister?

What would you do if you were an astrophysicist working for a boss who didn’t think much of you? Amina Washington was that person and one night she noticed an object that she believed could change her career. Unfortunately, when she tried to find the image on any of her electronics, it disappeared.

I really enjoyed the plot and the characters. There is a great deal of hot, steamy sex between Hami and Amina as their connection is so strong that they can’t get enough of each other. I enjoyed the different powers that each Kilfane character possess but we don’t get a lot of examples of what they are. Just at the beginning when Hami called the rain to put out the fire in the building. Also, when they went on the rescue mission for his sister. I really liked the bond Hami and Amina forged. It is so strong that Amina could actually transport herself to where Hami was.

I highly enjoyed this story and would recommend it to my friends as the plot is hot and sweet at the same time with a few other elements thrown in. It was really interesting watching Hami falling in love with Earth and I can only hope that Amina falls in love with his planet as much as he did with Earth. It is so sweet that he is going to try to make his home more earth like for her comfort. There are a few little wrenches thrown into the plot that I won’t spoil for you.

A great book to pick up on a cold night to keep you warm.

In Home, the number one New York Times international bestseller, Julie Andrews recounted her difficult childhood and her emergence as an acclaimed singer and performer on the stage.

With this second memoir, Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years, Andrews picks up the story with her arrival in Hollywood and her phenomenal rise to fame in her earliest films — Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. Andrews describes her years in the film industry — from the incredible highs to the challenging lows. Not only does she discuss her work in now-classic films and her collaborations with giants of cinema and television, she also unveils her personal story of adjusting to a new and often daunting world, dealing with the demands of unimaginable success, being a new mother, the end of her first marriage, embracing two stepchildren, adopting two more children, and falling in love with the brilliant and mercurial Blake Edwards. The pair worked together in numerous films, including Victor/Victoria, the gender-bending comedy that garnered multiple Oscar nominations.

There is so much to know about Julie Andrews. Honestly, I had no idea what kind of life she’s lived or if she had kids. Why? I just knew her from her movies and never bothered to check out her backstory. I saw this book on a list of must-read stories for 2020, so I knew I wanted to read it. I’m glad I did.

This book reads like talking to a friend. Just a nice conversation about life between friends. It flows well and I was drawn right in. There are notes about her movies and preparations for those movies, but also about her private life–getting married, having a daughter, having relationship issues, divorce and finding love again. She’s a relatable person and it shows on each page.

This book was masterly crafted, exquisitely written and executed like a fine tuned orchestra from beginning to end. My suggestion is to read the synopsis very carefully because I didn’t. Typically, I would never purposely choose to read a story that included a love triangle. I’m actually glad I read this one. Now, what I really want to know is, is there going to be a second book for the one who didn’t claim the heroine’s heart? Because I totally connected with the character and I won’t be happy if there isn’t a follow up.

There isn’t much more I can say that the synopsis doesn’t already cover, not without triggering a spoiler alert. I was conflicted about who should be chosen by the heroine, and figuring out who I’d choose was part of the entertainment. When the heroine made her decision, I felt sad for the unchosen one. My heart was tugged all over the place.

Normally I’d write a much longer review, but in this case there’s not a lot I can share that won’t lead to the temptation to reveal spoilers. What I can say is that this is a must read. I am placing No Hero Here on my bookshelf to read again. I highly recommend others to read this story!

The way she writes about the torment and guilt that both Tate and Rogan feel because they didn’t know about Cam… the feelings they have for each other and yet daren’t move forward in case it ruins what they have…

Told from both their perspectives, you get the full picture of just what they are feeling and the things they think they need to do. Tate needs love and being cherished but he doesn’t quite know how to get them, even though he is the experienced one of the two. Rogan has a need to care for Tate but doesn’t quite understand it. How this works out is simply beautiful to read. I loved how they worked together and communicated with each other.

It isn’t all sunshine and roses though. Rogan has a real jerk of a friend and I was more pleased than I can say when he was kicked to the curb! I’m so glad Lenny was there for Tate and Rogan though!! I hope he gets his HEA too.

This was an outstanding story with real depth and emotion in every word. It isn’t constant steam because that wouldn’t work. When they do though, beautiful!

Captain Elliot “Ash” Bainbridge is certain he’ll be the next pilot sent spinning to earth in a ball of fire. Not because the Germans will shoot him down, but because God will punish him for daring to love another man.

When Ash met Lieutenant Harry March, their attraction was instant. But Harry hates Ash’s fatalistic attitude. He believes in capturing the moment.

Can Ash set aside his fear of death and take a chance on love? Or should he try to keep his heart safe from hurt forever?

It’s hard to fall in love when death may only be a few heartbeats away.

Ash and March had wonderful chemistry. They understood each other in ways that the vast majority of other humans did not, including most of their fellow pilots. Their personalities complemented each other nicely as well. March excelled at things that Ash found difficult and vice versa. This was especially true when it came to how each of them had dealt with their sexual orientations in a time and place when two men falling in love was forbidden. I truly enjoyed getting to know both of them and would be thrilled to read a sequel to their love story if the author ever decides to write one.

I appreciated how honest this tale was about the physical and emotional pain that these pilots experienced. Ash, March, and their fellow pilots were doing dangerous work that had a high mortality rate. The thought of dying young was on all of their minds constantly, and that was only the first item on a long list of things they had to worry about. It was interesting to see how that affected how they spent their time when they weren’t in the air.

The world building was spectacular. I felt like I’d travelled back through time over a century to experience France during the first world war. Ms. Otten used every one of the five senses to show readers what this part of the world was like during that era, from the popping sound of distant gunfire to the oily scents that tickle the nose of the main character when he’s flying a mission.

Heart of Ash was a heartwarming and life-affirming read that I can’t recommend highly enough.
