Drawing on the tradition of great music-and-story works like Peter and the Wolf, Angel Heart is a music storybook in deluxe CD packaging, featuring best-selling young-adult author Cornelia Funke (Inkheart), and composer Luna Pearl Woolf (Après moi, le déluge) with an A-list cast of performers such as Jeremy Irons, Matt Haimovitz& Uccello, Frederica von Stade and more, with artwork by the award-winning Mirada.

The story: A girl whose heart has broken into a thousand pieces meets an angel. During their travels in the night, the angel enlists the help of spirits of the East, North, West, and South on his quest to mend her heart.

In addition to Angel Heart, (story by Cornelia Funke, music by Luna Pearl Woolf, narrated by Jeremy Irons); the work combines well known songs from The Beatles, classical music and folk music. The visual storytelling design is by Mirada, a multi-platform company that was founded by Mathew Cullen and Pan s Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro.

This is a charming audio book suitable for all ages… but it’s even more. In alternating tracks, Jeremy Irons shares the story of an angel and a girl whose heart is broken into thousand pieces. Between each segment of the story is a track of beautiful music to go along with the storyline.

I love the way each track is clearly defined as it allows this gem to be played in multiple ways. You can just hear the story, just the music, or you can listen to the entire piece. I admit, the first time I listened to it, I skipped the musical interludes because I wanted to know what happened in the storyline. With subsequent listenings, however, I’ve let the CD play on through and have thoroughly enjoyed the blending of the two art forms.

The story is beautifully told (and equally beautifully read by the talented Jeremy Irons—he can read the telephone book to me any time!!). Ms. Funke’s other works are a lot of fun to read–this one is hauntingly evocative of tenderness and pain-healed. It’s a story I have listened to more than once (and as I’m not normally a re-reader, that’s saying something).

Kudos to everyone involved. 5 stars.  Thanks to the producers for trying something new!

And now, magician Wong’s homeland of Choin is in an uproar as warring factions fight over the emperor’s throne.

Somehow the scattered fellowship of wizards must locate their missing members, break the old enchantments, and bring peace to the Choinese in time for Douglas to pass his firemaster exam and marry Myrn Manstar.

Pyromancer Flarman Flowerstalk takes one look at the tea leaves in the bottom of his cup one morning and promptly disappears. Then his apprentice, Journeyman Pyromancer Douglas Brightglade is kidnapped by the Stone Men, who were enchanted centuries ago by an ancient Geomancer. And finally, magician Wong discovers his homeland of Choin is suffering from a major political upheaval surrounding the struggle for the emperor’s throne. Suddenly the fellowship of wizards is faced with three different catastrophes. Will they be able to solve the mysteries?

Once again, Don Callander has crafted a fantastically imaginative and exciting story about wizards and their world. This is the third in the ‘Mancer Series, and I have really enjoyed each one. Callander gives an introduction in each so that readers who begin in the middle of the series are quickly updated and each book stands alone with a totally complete and finished plot.

I think one of the greatest strengths in Geomancer is the way in which Callander is able to juggle a varied panoply of characters and locations so that the reader never feels lost or unsettled. The descriptions of the Stone Men’s village is unique and complex, as are the Stone Men themselves. An ancient and evil Geomancer turned the entire village into stone and understandably, after living this way for centuries, they want the enchantment lifted. They also don’t trust wizards, again for a very good reason, so Douglas must use all his abilities to work with them. I like Douglas, especially because of his understanding and compassion for the Stone Men.

There are many different supporting characters in this novel, and they are each brought to life with amazing depth and clarity. Many different species are active in the story, as well as magical objects with personalities and abilities of their own. I love Bronze Owl, Doorknocker and official greeter, who is also able to move to different locations and instruct the ornate “Ostrich-Hume Pen, which had been busily writing to his dictation all morning.”

Lovers of fantasy are certain to find the wizard’s world in Geomancer to be spellbinding and exciting, filled with action and adventures in a variety of different richly described settings.

Billionaire playboy and a reluctant journalist clash. He pays for love using escorts; she is a gossip columnist with an axe to grind. What lies below the surface makes for an unforgettable story.

Peter is the ultimate alpha male with no time for relationships and no inclination to ever give his heart away. Actually, it would be difficult for him to find his heart, since all that know him think he has none. Through terrific prose and character development, the reader is given an in depth look at Peter’s psyche and the horrific events that shaped his lifestyle.

Georgia is just as complicated and damaged as Peter. She has her own memories that haunt her. She is also the result of events that can never be forgotten. A love affair between these two characters is a recipe for disaster. Our two characters of course clash and we are led through an interesting erotically romantic story that you will not soon forget.

The writing style, pace of the story, and character development are literature at its best. This book made me ponder how quick we are to jump to conclusions based on our own experiences. We are challenged to evaluate our encounters with strangers, where that first impression left a lasting impression and ruled our relationship with that person, whether it’s correct or not.

He is still irresistibly drawn to the pretty little human who touched his heart and made him want her. When he clasps her hand to offer comfort, his instincts kick in and True will fight everyone to protect her.

Laurann Dohner has done it again! She did a fantastic job with this book. I loved it so much, could not put it down. Despite the promise to myself to take it slow and savor the story, I ended up reading it straight through instead. By the ending my hands were cramping from clutching my kindle so tightly, and I’d ran an emotional gamut from reading this wonderful love story.

Laurann Dohner changes up the series by putting a unique spin on this book. The story ushers in some new and intriguing characters, and catches up with some familiar ones as well. True and Jeanie are both fairly new characters, though we have had a few glimpses of True in a couple of the other books. Ms. Dohner plumbed the depth of each character in the story, though I didn’t always like what was revealed. Some of them acted different from what I’ve come to expect. Some were mean, while others shone brightly. For one thing, I am now dying to find out more about Darkness and his mysterious past. While I’m somewhat mad at Tim and Trey. This book had a complex plot, with an intricate tangle of betrayal, suspicions, and passion. Above all else, it told of a wonderful love story that was sweet and honest. This story was very dramatic with rich characters and plenty of suspense. The drama thickened as the plot unfolded and a web of deceit was uncovered. It had a clever villain who seemed to stay one step ahead of the game. The why of that was shocking enough to make this reader gasp. It was an ironic twist, in a way. As usual, Ms. Dohner had all kinds of things happening in this book. Yet, the main focus always remained with the romance.

I couldn’t help falling in love with True and Jeanie. I feel that their story is one of the more compelling ones in the New Species series. Jeanie was a good person who walked into something that was a bad situation. But she stayed and tried to help everyone. She fell in love with True, and that love was nearly her own undoing. I will say that some of the earlier scenes in the book were very hard for me to read. I could almost feel Jeanie’s frustration when nobody believed her story. Yes, she was definitely one of the strongest heroines in the series. Then there was True. What can I say except that he was the most perfect hero. *sigh* He was so steadfast in his support of his woman. Even when he thought she was guilty of betraying him, he was still drawn to her. Their relationship was sweeter than most in this series, though it was just as hot. Dohner never lets her readers down with the love scenes. In case you are wondering, they were scorching hot. Now, the villain always loses the game in the end. I’ll just say that it was very satisfying, and I loved how this game ended. Yet, I am left wondering about something. Was Ms. Dohner setting up her next book ? Maybe so.

What kind of magic is this ? True is the eleventh book in a series that just keeps getting better with each new story. Laurann Dohner simply must possess some kind of wicked writing magic. This book was perfectly written. There’s no way to critique perfection. Overall, I look at this book as some of her finest work yet. I loved it. New Species fans will be crazy for it. I predict that new readers will jump on the Laurann Dohner bandwagon. True gets a great big recommendation for everyone.

Cody Welsh , Heath Lindsey, and Spencer Ketchum, affectionately known to their friends as “the bears,” have been searching for the mysterious belly dancer who laid claim to their hearts nearly a year ago. Keep her job or lose the men she loves.

What do you do when you have to choose between your calling or true love?

Maizy Owen is a kindergarten teacher in the small town of Divine, Texas. She is fulfilling her calling to shape the young minds of the future. Despite a recent break up from her fiance, Maizy is living a pretty good life. Her brother, one of the heros from the previous book in the series, Lucy’s Revenge, is getting married and is happy. Her new sister-in-law rocks and her nephew is blossoming. And then she meets the three bears.

Cody, Heath and Spencer’s are brothers we met three books ago in Tiny Dancer. Thrown together during their time in foster care, the men formed an unbreakable bond. Did I mention that they are super tall, muscled and sexy? Yeah. When they see a woman performing a mesmerizing belly dance on Halloween, the guys are done for. Hook, line, sinker. But before they can meet her she’s gone from the club. Believing they will find her the men set their plan in action and ready themselves for the love of their life. Thankfully it doesn’t take much to convince their belly dancer she’s the one when they finally meet her by chance.

These three men instantly grabbed my attention when they first graced the page and as a fan of the series I was eager to hear their story. I really enjoyed how the author made the story focus on how strong true love can be if you let it. Heather Rainier again proves what an amazing author she is with her 16th novel in her Divine Creek Series. Ms. Rainier is able to keep her tales fresh and make her fans salivate for more while keeping us in touch with the series favorites. Oh and she’s really great at making her fans hate a character so much we swear at our e-readers.

Again, I applaud the authors recent addition to her ever expanding series and personally I hope to never see it end!

This series focuses on MMA fighters and their personal lives. This goes beyond the current events affecting their lives and their fighting. These stories encompass their entire lives and the reasons why they have ended on the path to fighting and controlling their anger.

This particular book focuses on Wyatt and Tabitha, who have been married for thirteen years, yet lived as husband and wife for only 4 days. Tabitha’s sudden and unexplained departure from their town has haunted Wyatt all these years. All he had was a letter from Tabitha with the request that he allow her to move on while knowing that she would love him for the rest of her life.

This story deals with some painful issues that will amaze and instruct you about what you know of family commitments, love, and the sacrifices you may be willing to make in order to protect your loved ones.

Kele Moon is an established author with a unique and brilliant writing style. She has a way to describe emotions that is heartfelt. The characters in this series are all connected either by blood, love, or simply because they live in a small town where everyone is aware of their neighbors’ plight. This is the main reason why you will feel deeply connected to these characters as you read their stories. The characters are like a stack of dominos that have been equally spaced from each other, yet close enough to be affected … if you push one, all the others are disturbed.

I wholeheartedly recommend this series as an entertaining and moving set of books you will not soon forget.

This is the fifth and final novel in the Mancer series, and while many of the characters have appeared in the earlier adventures, this novel also works well as a stand-alone. Don Callander has a strong sense of magic himself and his characters, whether they are human, fairy, animal, or even a blue tea kettle, are amazingly well drawn. I was captured from the very beginning, and I willingly and happily traveled along with Marbleheart and Ben from one adventure to another.

The pacing of the novel is excellent and the pages seem to turn themselves. As other characters and a side-plots work there way in, the reader is skillfully taken from Wizards’ High to far distant lands and back again, and the ride is truly wonderful. The plot takes a number of unexpected turns along the way, and I was kept in suspense right up to the end.

Love and magic lie at the heart of this storm…as well as a whole lot of danger.

Brotherhood of Blood, Book 7

When Major Jesse Moore, brother to the Wyoming Pack Alpha, is sent to Iowa to check on his sister-in-law’s cousin, knocking politely isn’t an option. Sounds of a struggle send him storming into her kitchen—where he finds anything but a damsel in distress. The tiny human woman knows how to handle herself in a fight, and all Jesse’s senses shout she’s his mate.

Exotic-animal vet, Maria Garibaldi has never trusted the magic her aunt and grandmother claim is her birthright. She’s always known about the Others, but she had no idea she was also part of their world. When Maria sets out with Jesse to find the parents of a young grizzly shifter she found and treated, she learns the meaning of temptation in the form of the ex-Special Forces soldier.

As passion flares, the trail leads them toward the eye of a massive storm…where an unspeakable evil awaits the right moment to destroy the good in the magical world.

Wolf Quest is the latest of Bianca D’Arc’s Brotherhood of Blood books, and as with the others in this series, she is starting to bring together the threads of stories and crossing over from her Lords of the Were world as well.

When Jesse Moore and his team head to Iowa to check on his new sister-in-law’s cousin, his team gets there just in time to hear the sounds of a violent struggle in her home. But when he breaks down her kitchen door to help, he sees that the woman has things well in hand, having disabled one of her attackers and well on the way to stopping the other.

Maria Garibaldi is no stranger to magic, and she knows of the existence of shifters and other ‘mythical’ beings. But when Jesse tells her about her cousin, Maria is skeptical at first. When Jesse realizes something else, that Maria is his mate, he is determined to keep her safe. When they discover that she has been targeted by the evil Venifucus, he is more than ready to get her to safety. As they are checking out the animals in her sanctuary, Jesse discovers that one of her cages holds a wounded adolescent bear shifter, one of the most magical of the shifter species. Maria is stunned to learn this, and very embarrassed to have caged the young teen. When they learn that his parents were captured, and are being held and drained of their magic, Jesse and his team, along with Maria and Zach, head to the eye of the storm to rescue Zach’s parents and stop the deadly plans of the Venifucus. As they travel, Maria knows her destiny is with Jesse, if they can survive this ordeal, and she also discovers the magic in her bloodline. Can this team free the grizzlies and stop the evil from spreading? Will Maria accept a future with Jesse and magic in it? Is Maria ready to meet the extended family she never knew she had?

I enjoy catching up with prior characters and learning where they fit into the extended families of this world. The characters here are well defined, and the chemistry between Maria and Jesse is compelling.

Jesse Moore is every bit the alpha shifter, but with his background, he is better suited to the job he does, and is happy to leave the role of Alpha of the Wyoming pack to his brother. Jesse is the protector, the warrior who doesn’t do diplomacy well, and would rather fight his own and the pack’s battles with his chosen band of fighters. He is strong and loyal, determined to fight evil where he finds it. When he sees Maria waging her own battle against the agents of evil, he is impressed at first, and drawn to her on many levels. When his wolf recognizes its mate, Jesse is ready to fight for her, and claim her. I liked that Jesse accepted his wolf’s feelings, while trying to give Maria some time.

Doctor Maria Garibaldi knows about magic, and shifters, and comes from a more than human family. She just doesn’t know it. She is strong and independent, well able to take care of herself, but she is almost instantly drawn to Jesse. Although she has some doubts about the claim she is related to his sister in law, she keeps an open mind, and with Jesse’s help, discovers a depth to her more magical side that she never knew existed. I liked watching Maria grow into her magic and her passion for Jesse is so honest and open, it is a joy to watch.

There are several different storylines here, and all are quite intriguing. Ms. D’Arc brings everything to a satisfactory conclusion, while still indicating that, while beaten this time, the evil Venifucus is not yet out of the game. I liked how the threads of the stories overlapped a bit, and how relationships between the characters start to intertwine. There is the rescue of the bears, Jesse’s finding his mate, and Maria discovering her heritage linking her to people she liked and respected. This one is a hot and passionate romance, with lots of danger and action that kept me on the edge of my seat.

It might take a whole town to make this wedding happen.

With the help of their friends, the two battle it out. The army? An entire town of busybodies. The prize? Happily ever after.

I went in to this story expecting to hate Braxton Dean, after all he did leave his best friend at the altar, and I didn’t think he could be redeemed. Ms. Nelson does an excellent job of giving an insight into Braxton that goes a long way to redeeming him in my eyes.

I enjoyed reading the letters that he wrote to Abigail, they honestly added a delicious depth to this story that had me shushing those around me when they interrupted me while I was reading. To say I couldn’t get enough of this book is an understatement, I ran the gauntlet of emotions with these characters, and easily understood both sides and the pain that was there and I think it was a marvelous touch that it wasn’t just forgotten because he was back in time.

Abigail loves Braxton as much as Braxton loves Abigail and that isn’t ever really a question. The big issue is, do they love deeply enough to forgive and find their way back together. They have a lot of history and I enjoyed reading a story where the two main characters have so much history and are truly best friends. Ms. Nelson does a great job of adding in that small town feel with the meddling of the town in their love affair.

I really enjoyed this story, and will be singing its praises to my friends. It has the sweet feel of a small town romance, and also a story of best friends loving each other and learning to trust and forgive. I definitely look forward to more of this series from Ms. Nelson.

This is not your usual detective story. I chuckled through each chapter and the smile really never left my face. These are very unique detectives. I could hardly wait to see what they would do next. And believe me, there was plenty happening.

Each chapter is hilarious, yet it all makes perfect sense. The best thing is, they are not trying to be funny, they just are. Even the weekend when Liza spends two days with three friends at a spa, which turns into a mystery for her to solve.

There are a lot of exciting and somewhat scary episodes, and a lot of hidden tensions in the relationship between Jack and Liza. All are really fun.  They get involved with a dognapping, and dog fighting ring which they stumble across. They even get involved with a spy ring. There is just one thing after another. It is so much fun to read and watch them solve everything in their unorthodox manner.

This book was every bit as good as the first one, and I give it 5 stars.
