Tall and strikingly handsome, Adam Trent could tempt any woman, especially in his secret disguise as the swashbuckling Captain Spectre. But when this daring buccaneer wagers a seductive campaign against a beauty whose passion matches his own, he’s not prepared for what awaits him…

WINNING HER HOME WAS EASY…

Throwing a young woman out of her home is hardly decent behavior—even for a pirate. But when Adam Trent wins the Ducharme plantation in a card game, he knows it’s the perfect base for a covert scheme of revenge in which he sails the bayous as Captain Spectre. Adam agrees to let Lianne Ducharme stay until she comes of age—a decision he soon regrets. For Lianne fascinates him, and Adam cannot afford the distraction…

WINNING HER LOVE COULD COST HIM EVERYTHING

Too bad that the most virile man Lianne Ducharme has ever met is also the most infuriating. With no choice but to stay at Belle Arbor as his ‘guest’, Lianne gradually yields to her own desires. But there is far more to Adam than Lianne knows. And succumbing to a pirate’s promise of bliss could be the surest path to heartbreak…

Enjoy an Excerpt

Adam determinedly immersed himself in plantation business. He gave strict orders that he was not to be interrupted. He continued his work on the ledgers until his eyes grew tired, and when he checked the time, he was pleased to find it was near midnight.

Only then, when he was too exhausted to continue, did he allow his thoughts to dwell on his real reason for staying locked in the study for so long. Lianne… Adam’s gaze drifted to the loveseat where they’d lain together in a passionate embrace the night before, and he felt the heat rise in his body again in remembrance. In frustration, he wondered what it would take to make him immune to her. Here he was, bone-weary and worn out, and yet just the thought of having her filled him with desire.

Adam shook his head in confusion. She’d made it clear the night before how she felt about him. He knew the best thing to do was to avoid her. Out of sight, out of mind – he hoped.

Adam fought down the need to go to his marriage bed. Instead, he sought out the barren comfort of the loveseat for his night’s rest. It seemed an eternity to him before dawn lightened the eastern sky. He rose from his broken sleep, eager to leave the house before Lianne awoke.

Adam tread softly upstairs to their bedroom to get the clothing he needed. He entered the room quietly and was glad to find Lianne was asleep. He gathered what he needed and made an effort not to look at her, but when his gaze fell upon her, he froze. His breathing grew ragged as he took in her gentle beauty. He almost reached out to touch her, but stopped in time, silently cursing himself. He backed from the room and a short while later he left the house. He didn’t know how much longer he could remain in such close quarters with Lianne and keep from making love to her. Resolved to working out his restlessness through hard physical labor, Adam rode out to the fields, intending to spend the entire day there.

Weston’s Lady by Bobbi Smith – Spotlight and Giveaway

Version 1.0.0

Come One! Come All!
To Weston’s Wild West Texas Stampede

There were Cowboys and Indians, trick riding, thrills and excitement for everyone. And if Liberty Jones had anything to say about it, she would be a part of the show, too. She had demonstrated her expertise with a gun by shooting a playing card out of Reed Weston’s hand at thirty paces, but the arrogant owner of the stampede wouldn’t even give her a chance.

Disguising herself as a boy, Libby wrangled herself a job with the show, and before she knew it Reed was firing at her—in front of an audience. It seemed an emotional showdown was inevitable whenever they came together, but Libby had set her sights on Reed’s heart and she vowed she would prove her love was every bit as true as her aim.

Enjoy an Excerpt

Reed opened the door to his private wagon and stood back to let Libby enter ahead of him. She swept past him, her manner dignified and ladylike, in spite of her masculine attire.

“Have a seat.” He motioned to one of the chairs at the small table.

“No, thank you. I prefer to stand.”

“Have it your way,” he said sharply. “It seems you don’t listen well, Miss Jones. As I recall, I told you I wasn’t hiring for the show—and I especially wasn’t hiring any women.”

“I hired on as a boy,” she retorted.

Reed’s gaze raked over her. “So I see. How ingenuous of you.”

“You wouldn’t give me a chance! I’m good and I just proved it tonight! The performance would have been a disaster if I hadn’t stopped the runaway team in time! The audience thought it was a regular part of the act.”

“I could tell,” he answered, irritated by the whole situation.

“I can help you with the show,” Libby went on, trying not to sound desperate. If he fired her, she had no money, and nowhere else to go.

“I don’t need your help, Miss Jones.”

“But you wouldn’t want to disappoint the public, would you?”

“You know, you’re right. You are worth a lot of money to me. You wanted a job with Weston’s Wild West Texas Stampede—well, you’ve got one. You’re officially Weston’s Lady.”

“Know this, Reed Weston—I am worth a lot of money to you, and I’ll earn ever cent of it working for the Stampede, but that’s the only place I’m going to be Weston’s Lady.”

“We both know you’re not a lady, and I’m not sure you’re much of a woman.” Even as he said it, Reed knew it was a lie. She looked beautiful as she challenged him. Her hair was a glorious golden mane of curls about her shoulders and high color stained her cheeks.

Libby reacted without thought, swinging out at him.

Reed snared her wrist to stop her when she would have slapped him, and he jerked her to him.

In that instant, his awareness of everything except Libby faded. He drew her near, slowly, deliberately. He wanted this—no, he needed this. He needed to taste her passion.

Libby found herself frozen, held captive by the unfathomable look in Reed’s eyes.

Their lips met, and time seemed suspended as his mouth settled over hers in a possessive brand, claiming her sweetness for his own.

Wrongly Accused

When Pinkerton detective Slade Braxton went undercover to infiltrate the notorious Dakota Kid’s gang, he became one of the most wanted outlaws in the West. Now, set to stand trial for murder and robbery, he realized his ruse had been all too convincing—especially when the judge at his hearing turned out to be the woman of his dreams—the woman he’d shared a kiss with before sinking back into the shadows.

Out for Justice

Alyssa Mason was shocked when the mystery man who swept her off her feet at the town dance strode into her courtroom, accused of killing her father. Something about the handsome, arrogant Braxton disturbed her usually calm resolve. Though not easily distracted from her moral duties, Alyssa soon found herself fighting a forbidden attraction—and wondering if she’d have no choice but to abandon the law…and become the Outlaw’s Lady.

Enjoy an Excerpt

Slade had been standing in the shadows watching the evening’s festivities, feeling like the outsider he was. He’d been looking for the town’s sheriff in the crowd when he saw the woman for the first time. She was a timeless beauty, and as he was watching her, another man took her out onto the dance floor. It was only as they turned his way while they were dancing that he saw the sheriff’s badge on the man’s chest.

As he moved farther back into the darkness, Slade’s frustration over his situation grew even more. He knew a driving need to be someone other than Slade Braxton, the outlaw and fast gun, for just one brief moment that night. When the music ended and he saw the woman standing alone on the dance floor, he started through the crowd.

“Miss?” Slade said as he reached her side.

Alyssa looked up, startled. She hadn’t noticed the stranger’s approach. She found herself gazing up at by far the best-looking man she’d ever seen—tall, dark and somehow dangerous.

“Hello,” she said, giving him a tentative smile. “Have we met?”

“No, we haven’t, but would you care to dance?”

A new tune had just begun to play.

Mesmerized by the mysterious man who’d appeared out of nowhere, she knew she had to. “I’d love to dance with you.”

The handsome stranger smiled as he took her in his arms and swept her out onto the dance floor.

The melody was a slow one, and Alyssa couldn’t have been more pleased. She felt as if she were floating on air as they moved together.

NUN ON THE RUN

Desperate to escape an arranged marriage, Reina Alvarez needed a way out of California fast, a way that would elude the ruggedly handsome and very determined bounty hunter her father had sent after her. What better way to hide her voluptuous curves than with a chaste nun’s habit? But as the ties of love pulled her and Clay Cordell closer together, chastity became the furthest thing from Reina’s mind and she wanted only to be bound to the sexy bounty hunter forever.

When Clay got to New Orleans, he was almost fooled by Reina’s virtuous act. However, it was soon evident that the vixen who disguised herself as a nun, was no nun. No nun could ever kiss so sweetly. The last thing Clay wanted to do was bring Reina home to another man. Her raven tresses and fiery manner made him only want to surrender himself to her…SWEET SILKEN BONDAGE.

Bounty-hunter Clay Cordell was worried as he returned to his hotel room. Dev, his partner, had been arrested for a murder he hadn’t committed, and he had to find a way to free him. Clay did not expect to find anyone in his room, and he stopped just inside the doorway at the sight of Luis Alvarez, standing so casually across the room from him.

“Alvarez… What the hell are you doing here?”

“Mr. Cordell,” Luis responded with a cool smile. “I’ve been waiting to speak with you, and I was beginning to wonder if you were going to return.”

“Really?” Clay couldn’t believe the gall of the man.

“I understand you and your partner ran into trouble with the law last night.”

“What do you know about it?”

“Nothing, nothing at all,” he lied.

“Why are you here? What do you want?” Clay demanded, resenting his intrusion and wanting to get rid of him.

“I’m here because I want to repeat my offer to you. I want to hire you to find my daughter.”

“I told you before, I’m not interested.” Clay’s only concern was saving Dev.

Luis smiled even wider. “But Mr. Cordell, I’ve raised my offer again.”

“I’m not interested-not at any price.”

“Not even to save the life of your friend?”

Clay went completely still at the question. “What are you talking about?”

“I’m talking about O’Keefe. I understand he’s been arrested for murder. So, perhaps there’s something I can do to help you. I’m not without influence here, you know.”

“Sorry, Alvarez, I’m not interested in bribing anyone. Dev’s innocent, and all I have to do it prove it.”

“Who knows if your friend will stay alive long enough for you to prove his innocence? I think it’s a fair exchange, don’t you? My daughter returned for the life of your friend?”

Clay was trapped and he knew it. “What do you want me to do?”

Luis smiled triumphantly. “I have a small portrait of my Reina….”

“Just know that, no matter what, I truly do love you.”

Those words and a Bible were all that remained of Logan when Eden awoke. Their romance had been born amid the ravages of war. Love had struck Eden and she had surrendered to it. She had exchanged wedding vows with the handsome stranger who had saved her life, but she realized now that their life together had been a lie. Her husband was a Yankee spy, who had used her to infiltrate the Confederate cause. The hardening of her heart should have been as rapid as the loss of it, but one question remained—Had he left her with a final truth?

St. Louis, 1863

“How did it happen?” Logan Matthews demanded, fury and fear gripping him as he stared across the desk at Larry Cotlar, his superior in the Union’s Secret Service.

“Your brother was assigned to guard a shipment of arms coming upriver from New Orleans. Evidently, some Rebels in disguise boarded the steamer and stole the shipment. From what I’ve been able to learn, you brother tried to stop them, but was shot during the fight.”

Logan went still. “Is he—?”

“No. He was only wounded, but they took him and the other guard along with them as prisoners.” He quickly explained how the passengers and most of the crew had been abandoned on the riverbank and how the thieves sailed the steamer farther upriver before taking the shipment and setting the boat on fire.

“I’m going to New Orleans.”

“I thought you’d want the assignment.” Larry gave him a tight smile. Logan was one of the best operatives. If anybody could find out who was running the spy ring, he would.

“What do we know about them?”

“The Army wasn’t able to learn anything. By the time was steamer was found, there was nothing left but a burned-out hull, and the Rebs either escaped through the bayou or on another boat.”

Logan was grim as Larry described the men who might have planned the raid.

“Adrian Forrester served in the Confederate army, but lost a leg early on. He returned to New Orleans and founded an orphanage for the children of dead Confederate soldiers. It’s called the Homeless Haven Orphans’ Asylum. He and Nathaniel Talbott, a banker, could be relaying information to spies. That’s where you come in. How soon can you be ready to leave?”

“Today.” Logan had no ties to keep him there. The sooner he began his investigation, the better. “And I know exactly what disguise I’ll use.” At Larry’s questioning look, he went on. “The Reverend Matthews will be traveling south to save souls.”

“Perfect.” Larry had always known that Logan was a brilliant operative, and he’d just proven it again.

To artist Glynna Williams, Texas was a land of wild beauty, carved by God’s hand, untouched as yet by man’s. And the most exciting part of it was the fierce, bare-chested half-breed who saved her from a rampaging longhorn bull. Just as the untamed wilderness called to the painter in her heart, Hunt’s mesmerizing eyes touched the woman in her.

As she spent the days sketching his magnificent body, she dreamed of spending the nights in his strong arms. Glynna knew the paintings she’d done of his Comanche people would guarantee her success as a Western artist, but would she ever succeed in capturing Hunt’s wary heart? He’d been trapped and wounded before by a white woman. Now only the gentle bonds of love could make Glynna the…Half-Breed’s Lady.

Enjoy an Excerpt

Glynna hadn’t meant to forget the stage driver’s warning to stay close, but as she roamed away from the road, sketchbook in hand, she became more and more entranced with the beauty of the wilderness surrounding her. Her creativity was urging her on. This landscape was why she’d come to Texas.

She wasn’t sure how far she’d wandered from the stage when a vista unfolded before her that left her enthralled. Low-growing mesquites and cedars provided the perfect frame for the view of a distant mesa. It rose tall and powerful against the horizon, its colors vivid in the brilliance of the afternoon sun. Sitting down on a rock nearby, she never let her gaze shift from the view.

She worked for some time, trying to capture the essence of the wild, untamed land. Her concentration was such that she didn’t hear the rustling in the brush nearby. She was focused only on her work. It was the man’s shout that jarred her back to awareness of where she was, and it was then that she saw him. A bare-chested warrior, leaning low over his horse’s neck, riding straight for her. The expression on his face was savage, and she was sure his intent was equally frightening. He looked deadly, fierce, and it was then she remembered the stage driver’s warning that renegades might be in the area. Frantic, she looked around, trying to decide where to run. Desperate to escape, she tried to flee. It was then that a strong arm snared her around the waist and hauled her roughly up against him.

Clint Williams
Born February 16, 1852
Died March 23, 1877

Those were the words that marked his grave, and Clint knew that although he stood reading his own epitaph, they were true. Ever since the attack that had killed his entire family, he’d been dead inside. Only one thing kept him going—the burning need to bring in the outlaws who’d done it.

The Last Chance Saloon

Posing undercover to infiltrate the gang, Clint could let no one know his true identity or the fact that he’d once been a Texas Ranger. Not even the pretty daughter of a preacher man who burst into the saloon calling upon the gamblers to repent. As far as she knew, he was a gunslinger with a bad reputation who had no right to touch a good woman. But sometimes a man’s got to break all the rules, ignore common send to follow his heart and get downright… Defiant.

Enjoy an Excerpt

Clint was tense as he stood ready to shoot. In an instant, he drew his gun and fired. He hit the target dead on. His long hours of practice these past two weeks had paid off.

Clint turned to face Captain Meyers. He’d arranged to meet with the Ranger captain at the ruins of his family’s ranch so he could tell him what he planned to do.

“You were a fast draw before, but I think you’re even quicker now.”

“Good, I need to be.”

“What’s your plan?”

Clint was grim as he explained. “Except for a few people here in the area, everyone believes I was killed during the attack on the ranch. I want it to stay that way. Clint Williams is dead. From now on I’m Kane McCullough.”

“You want a new identity?” Meyers was surprised.

“Yes, and this is where I need your help—because Kane McCullough is a gunfighter, and he needs a reputation. I want you to get the word out.”

Captain Meyers realized Clint was right. No one would suspect who he really was, since everyone believed he was dead. As a deadly gunman he could move in the same circles as the killers and bring them down.

“I can do that.”

“Thanks. Have you heard of any new leads?”

“They’ve been lying low, but I just got word they were holding up in Black Canyon.”

“I’m riding to Black Canyon.” Clint’s mood was black.

“Good luck.”

The two men shook hands.

Hi! I had soooo much fun researching Renegade’s Lady. The heroine is a dime novel writer who goes West to research her new book. If you’re not familiar with dime novels, they were the original paperback books from the 1800s. I even managed to find a few at antique stores. One I bought is titled The Golden Belt, and it was published by Beadle and Company in 1866. What a treasure! I can’t believe it’s held up this long. So I hope you enjoy Sheri and Brand, the half-breed scout, in Renegade’s Lady!

Looking For a Hero

Sheridan St. John was a successful writer who had no need for a man in her life…as long as she had one between the pages of her dime novels. But when her editor told her sales were off, Sheri set out for the Wild West in search of the perfect hero for her new book.

Brand, The Half-Breed Scout

The man Sheri found fulfilled her every requirement for a fantasy lover—half Apache, a tall, dark, and dangerous male—but he was completely wrong for a real-life mate. On the run from the law, Brand guarded his heart as the attraction between them destroyed her reservations, leaving Sheri with one burning need—to become the renegade’s lady.

Enjoy an Excerpt

Arizona Territory, 1878

“Hello,” Sherri said as a shiver of anticipation went up her spine. Brand was a magnificent specimen of manhood. Dressed in a loose-fitting shirt, buckskin breeches and moccasins, he was everything she’d imagined an untamed scout to be. She knew instantly he was going to be the man who saved her career.

Brand had thought it was going to be difficult dealing with a writer when he’d believed Sheridan St. John was a man, but now…a woman. His gaze raked over her insolently, missing nothing. She was beautiful and he felt a stirring of pure animal attraction for her, but he quickly dismissed it. She was an Eastern lady who didn’t know one end of a horse from another. She had no business being there. His job was to track renegades. He was going to look forward to putting her on a stage heading back East.

The look in his eyes was cold as he addressed her. “Miss St. John.”

Sherri saw the iciness in his regard and knew Brand wasn’t pleased to see her. Still, she wasn’t about to give up. Her career depended on it.

“I’ve been looking forward to meeting you. It isn’t often I get to meet a real live hero.”

“What can I do for you?” he asked, ignoring her remark. He’d been ordered to cooperate, but he didn’t have to like doing it.

“Well, first, I have to interview you. I need to learn everything there is to know about you and scouting.” Sheri’s mind was racing as she imagined Brand as the hero in her book. He was going to be magnificent – fighting, winning and rescuing damsels in distress.

Unlucky At Cards…

Cool-headed and ravishingly beautiful, Brandy O’Neill knew how to hold her own with the riverboat gamblers on The Pride of New Orleans. But she met her match in Rafe Morgan when she bet everything she had on three queens and discovered the wealthy plantation owner had a far-from-gentlemanly notion of how she should make good on her wagers.

Lucky In Love…

Disillusioned with romance, Rafe wanted a child of his own to care for, without the complications of a woman to break his heart. Now, a full house had given him just the opportunity he was looking for – he would force the lovely cardsharp to marry him and give him a child before he’d set her free. But a hot wedding night and a glimpse into Brandy’s tender heart soon made Rafe realize he’d been luckier than he’d ever imagined when he won… The Lady’s Hand.

“Have you been to the bar yet?” one of the men sharing their dinner table on The Pride of New Orleans asked Rafe and Marc as they finished eating.

“No, not yet,” Rafe answered.

“You’re in for a treat then,” the man told him.

“What kind of treat?”

“You’ll get to meet Brandy tonight.”

“Who’s Brandy?” Marc asked.

“You haven’t heard about Miss Brandy, the best poker player on the Mississippi?” he said with a grin. “I lost about two hundred dollars to her last night.”

“And you’re smiling?” Rafe was surprised by his attitude. Most men didn’t like to lose.

“You’ll have to meet her before you’ll understand.”

“She sounds interesting.”

“Brandy’s more than interesting. Why don’t you come down to the bar with us now? She should be there.”

Rafe and Marc agreed, thinking they would enjoy a good poker game tonight.

“There’s a mystery about Brandy,” the man said. “Very little is known about her past. Many men have tried to convince her to do more than gamble with them, but Brandy remains aloof. She refuses all advances.”

Rafe was intrigued, and when they entered the bar, they found a group of men standing around a table in the back of the room.

“She’s here,” the man pointed out.

They made their way over to stand by the table, and Rafe and Marc understood immediately what the other man had been saying. It was no wonder men didn’t mind losing to her. Brandy was beautiful enough to distract even the most accomplished poker player.

A master of disguise, a genius of deceit, the infamous bounty hunter always had the advantage over any prey: No desperado knew Cody’s real identity—or even suspected that the tracker stalking him was a fiery beauty.

The Deception

The first time Cody caught sight of Luke Majors, she was dressed as a lady preacher. But nothing could conceal the way the gunman thrilled her. Still, it wasn’t Luke’s body or soul Cody was after—it was the price on his head. And she was sure to collect the reward, if only she could convince herself a fistful of dollars was worth more than a lifetime of passion.

Joe, the saloon bartender, glanced around, wondering where Delilah had gone. Clad in a tight gown with her hair pinned up in a mass of curls, she was gorgeous. He’d done well when he’d hired her a few weeks before.

Delilah was closer than Joe suspected. Sitting alone at a secluded table in the back of the saloon, she kept her gaze fixed on the main doors. Her nerves were stretched taut as she waited for Hank Andrews to show up.

It was then that it happened. The doors swung open, and the man she’d been waiting for walked in.

Delilah would have recognized him anywhere. He was a sinister-looking man. She watched almost transfixed as he shouldered his way to the bar.

Rising provocatively, her prey in sight, Delilah glanced down at her decolletage to make sure the neckline revealed just the right amount of cleavage. She wanted Andrews’s undivided attention. Whenever she went after a man, she got him.

Andrews took a drink of his beer and stopped after his first swallow.

“This is warm!” He glared at the bartender.

“Everything is this time of year,” Joe countered.

“I like my beer cold!”

“You may like your beer cold, mister, but how do you like your women? Cold…or hot?” a feminine voice purred behind him.

At the sound of the invitation in the woman’s voice, Andrews turned. The woman standing before him was a real beauty. From the challenging look in her eyes and the sight of her breasts so alluring displayed, he knew bedding this one would be a treat.

“I like my women hot,” he answered.

“I was hoping you’d say that.” Delilah met his gaze straight on. “Because I’m on fire.”

Luring him upstairs and getting him naked in bed was even easier than she’d expected. Delilah was even more delighted when he didn’t resist her handcuffing him to the bedposts.

“You’re going to enjoy this,” she said as she went to open the window.

“What are you doing?” he asked as she called out to someone outside in a hushed voice. “Look, you little whore, what are you up to?”

“I’m no whore, Mr. Andrews. I’m Cody Jameson.”

“Cody Jameson?” His eyes widened with fear. He’d heard of the bounty hunter of that name, but he’d thought Jameson was a man.

“That’s right, and I’m taking you in for murder.”
