Sharon Timmons used the comfort of food to survive a rough childhood when her father left, and her mother responded by going from man to man. Taking control, she made a new life for herself — new body, new job, new town. Deputy sheriff Hank wasn’t a forever kind of guy, but she was devastated when he left her for another woman. His partner rescued her. She had no clue how her life would be impacted.

Pete Raine dated a lot of women in his day. He came from a big family, born right in the middle. No one had ever needed him before. Sharon did. He sensed her insecurities even though she was a knockout. When Hank publicly dumped her, Pete scooped her up in his arms – literally – and didn’t plan to let her go.

Sharon is a lot stronger emotionally than she gives herself credit for. Pete is determined to help her realize that and determined to prove to her he’s the one man who will love her under any circumstances and love her forever. Sharon slowly comes to realize her intense, honest relationship with Pete is true, and he is The Keeper.

Sharon Timmons can teach many people a lesson with her story of strength and courage. A “fat” child who was made fun of and lived through a chaotic childhood, Sharon works to become a new person. She gives herself a new life in a small town as a dental assistant. Unfortunately, Sharon still thinks of herself as a fat girl, just in a new body. While striving for normalcy, Sharon does not believe anyone can really care about her. Unfortunately, her beliefs seem to hold true when her current boyfriend, Deputy Hank Crossman, dumps her in the town bar, Nooks. Sharon’s pain and loneliness had me on the verge of tears many times as I read this moving story.

Enter Deputy Pete Raine. Even though he is Hank’s partner, Pete was enraged with the public display when Hank dumped Sharon. Pete stepped right in, comforted Sharon, and ended her night with a proper kiss. Pete understood Sharon’s many sides and it brought out a protective instinct in him. When Deputy Ron Zayboh made comments about Sharon, I loved how Pete just jumped down his throat and warned him away from Sharon. I think Sharon started to believe in Pete when he understood about her chubby childhood and her parents. When he admitted that the one mistake he made was to let Hank date her first, my heart swelled.

One of the biggest lessons in the story that I found was how much damage was done to Sharon by her father’s words. Calling a ten-year-old child Tubs and then the split up of the family can cause children to believe they are at fault for many things. The way Sharon survived, learn to trust and eventually love again was very moving and touched my heart.

The Keeper is one story that showed me anything is possible. An absolute must read in my opinion. Pick up a copy and be inspired.
