It took Sean’s life-threatening illness to make Lucas realize he was in love with his friend. Now that Sean has recovered, Lucas is determined to give him a birthday gift that will express the feelings he hasn’t managed to voice… the gift of himself. However, when Lucas’s past negative experiences get in the way, Lucas fears the gift will be ruined. Sean reminds him that Lucas promised him everything, and that’s what Sean wants. In return, Sean will give Lucas a gift he never expected… unconditional love.

Parting can be such sweet sorrow. Then again, learning to open up can be just as hard. Good thing there are friends to make being ourselves so much easier.

I love a good m/m story. One with laughs, tears, and a whole lot of hot and sweaty sex. This book delivered in spades. I honestly laughed and cried during parts and thought about Lucas and Sean far after the end of the book. I wanted to hug and console both men.

There were a few times where I was a little confused. The author leaves things open and I had to re-read to make sure I knew what was going on. Still, I really enjoyed this book.

Lucas is a top—top all the way. But, being a top isn’t all it’s cracked up to be when the love of his life is nearly taken from him. I loved how he really had to dig deep to deal with the very real possibility Sean wouldn’t always be in his life. I also loved the sheer emotional strength it took for him to offer the gift—of himself.

As much as I fell hard for Lucas, Sean captured my heart as well. He’s been through the wringer and made it through to the other side. There is a real connection between these men. Whereas some couples can convey feelings through just a glance, these two can say a lot in sheer silence. Sean’s ability to read Lucas and understand exactly what he needs is really engaging to read.

If you want a book that’s equal parts tender and kinky, then you need to read The Gift. I give it 4.5 cherries.
