“Romance” in the Animal Kingdom

Most animals have mating or courtship rituals. Some are decidedly reminiscent of human courtship rituals. See if any of these ring a bell with you:

Scorpions dance. They actually hook claws and spin in circles around each other for up to an hour before they find a cozy rock for mating. Of course, the female sometimes eats the male afterwards…

    Hate scorpions!

  5. Animals can be fascinating to watch, even moreso than people because they can’t actually tell you what they’re thinking. As a writer, it gives me an opportunity to put my own spin on things, which helps with my own characterizations.

  6. Found all those very interesting, thought the one about the elephants very sweet!

  7. Hi Jean. I loved the one about elephants; made me think of Mama Jumbo and little baby Dumbo in the Disney movie. I *always* cry when I see that scene and the song, Baby Mine is on my iPod. Yeah…I’m a sucker like that.

  8. I like the elephants one too. Aweee, ain’t nothing like a man trying to take care of you, no matter what species you are. Why can’t all men be like that sweet?!
