Everyone has those moments they’ve gone through that have galvanized them. Kids growing up, getting older, mistakes made…we learn to live with them or at least get past them. That’s a lot of what this book is about. There’s a wide mix in a family. Yes, it takes all types and the Tangle family has them in spades.

The writing flowed well and I didn’t want to put the book down. That said, I did look away many times and had to redirect my interest. Makes no sense? While I wanted to know more, I got a tad bored on occasion. There was so much angst, I had to step away. I liked the book, but I had a hard time connecting the entire time. It wasn’t a bad story…but maybe it wasn’t the right read for me right now. That doesn’t mean it won’t appeal to others. I’m sure it will.

Readers, like me, should find a bit of themselves in each sister. The tragedy does mark them. Grief, numbness, sadness… we’ve all been there. It was like reading about my friends and going through the whole summer together. I don’t regret it. There’s the sister with control issues, the one who wants to control nothing, and the damaged one. There’s the mother with more issues than can be counted and everyone trying to come together to deal.

If you like a book high on angst and characterization, then this is the book for you. You’ll laugh, cry and look at your own life a little differently.

Strap in…it’s going to be an interesting and gut-wrenching ride.

Room isn’t a book I would’ve picked up normally. This story is told from the perspective of the child and that’s not generally my cuppa. That said, once I started the book I couldn’t stop. The situation Ma and Jack find themselves in isn’t anything anyone would want to be in. Ma – her name is never mentioned – is kidnapped at the age of 19 by Old Nick. While I had moments I wanted to know more about him and his motivations, mostly I just hated Old Nick. The author did a good job of making me ill from reading about him. Yeah, he’s bad.

I can’t imagine being a kidnapping victim or the things Ma and Jack had to go through to survive. To be locked in an 11×11 room… the very thought makes me shudder. I have to say I was emotionally invested in the story. I had to know what would happen to the characters, even Old Nick. I wasn’t disappointed. While it’s not a feel-good read, there were moments I simply couldn’t put the kindle down.

That said, there were trigger moments for me. Jack, although five years old and smart as a whip, is emotionally behind. How can he not be? He hasn’t ever experienced the outside world and has no idea how to interact with other people beyond Ma. One of the things she does to keep him close is she still nurses him. This was a trigger for me in that it put me off of the story. I get it. She nursed him to ensure he’d get the proper nourishment and to keep that bond. She had to be sure he’d grow up right. But the nursing made me uncomfortable. Then there was the incident with the tooth. Ma has bad teeth and some fall out. One in particular does and Jack nabs it. It’s his connection to Ma. What made me uncomfortable about Tooth – as he calls it – is something kids do. He sticks it in his mouth. He sucks on it, carries it around and puts it in his sock…then sticks it back in his mouth. The germ factor was more than I could handle. If you’re not wild about kids who stick things in their mouth or the older child nursing issue…then this might not be the book for you.

But honestly, while this wasn’t something I’d have picked on my own, I’m glad I read it. Anyone could be that girl who is kidnapped. She thinks she’s helping someone. Who hasn’t done that? It’s a plausible story. Interesting, intriguing and fascinating since the story is told from Jack’s point of view, Room might be just the book for your reading list.

Gene Wilder is more than just a mildly eccentric comic with fantastic timing. There’s the cynical side and the manic side, but he’s more dimensional. This book showed the good, the bad and the human side of him.

I’d loved the work of Gene Wilder since I watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory as a child. For the longest time, I thought of him as Willy Wonka and the man who helped Gilda Radner while she battled cancer. Trust me, there is so much more to him.

I loved how he told the stories of his childhood. It wasn’t all roses and comedy. He spent time in a military school and worked hard to make his parents proud. He dealt with the death of his mother and trying to find his way as an actor. Talk about taking the long road…he certainly did.

He shows his human side as well in this book. Some actors don’t want their past revealed. He talks about his struggles with women, his adopted daughter, balancing his acting life with his inner demons and finding real love in his life. Wilder holds nothing back. I could relate to some of his experiences and respected him more as an actor.

The stories about his movies injected a human quality to them, as well. He’s not just an image on the silver screen but a person. I gained a lot of respect for him.

If you want a book that will make you laugh, cry, think and love…then this might be the book for you.

I hadn’t read a book by Sherryl Woods…until now. Talk about starting with a whopper! Oh my! This book is ripe with emotion, sadness and strength in the face of adversity. It’s well written and kept me in my seat througout. I had to know how the tale would shake out.

Two friends, two families entwined and lots of secrets. Marcie’s son has been accused of doing a horrible thing–date rape. I appreciated how Ms. Woods tackled a hard topic, especially in this day and age. Sports stars sometimes think they are above the law. Ms. Woods handles this topic well, but a little easily. Still, the author tugged at my emotions. I didn’t like Evan at all. Then there is Marcie and Emily–the mothers. Marcie definitely grows through the story. She starts off meek and put down. While this might seem like fluff to some readers, it might be a little tough for other readers. It definitely made her more human to me. I rooted for her. Emily grated on my nerves. I could understand her hesitancy to admit the truth–we’re human and we make mistakes–but I’m not sure I could take the same path Emily did. The ending seemed a little too neat for my taste, but that doesn’t make this book a pass. It’s enjoyable and breezy in spots.

There’s a touch of romance to this book, but the angst and mystery portion is the bigger part of the story.

If you want a book that will make you think and characters that are interesting, then this might be the book for you.

There was one particular scene that angered me, but it concerned the choices of the human characters. I also enjoyed the character of Laurie, although I wished she’d have grown more of a backbone. Still, I rooted for her.

The main character of Andy…he left a little to be desired for me. I liked him as a lawyer and how he grew through the story. But his immaturity at times grated on my nerves. He needed to go through this journey to grow in his maturity, but also to come to grips with who he is.

There were plenty of twists and turns I never saw coming. Between courtroom antics, lies and Andy’s past coming back to haunt him, I had to keep reading to know what would happen next.

If you like a good mystery with eclectic characters, then this might be the book for you.

The writing is interesting, but the story moved rather slowly. I hate to admit I lost interest a couple of times. It was just a little too easy to walk away from Lexie and Jeremy. They were okay characters, but at times I wasn’t thrilled with them. I didn’t have the connection with them I would have liked. I never really warmed to Lexie. It seemed like she had almost too much to hide. She needed to make up her mind, too. Jeremy was a little different. I liked him. I could even picture him and rooted for him. I mean, he has a plan and knows what he knows… I even kind of liked him pursuing Lexie. However, near the end, I didn’t understand his choices. The ending felt rushed and I see the story is continued in At First Sight. Maybe this would’ve been a better read had I known there was a second story. I’m not sure.

Things between Lexie and Jeremy happen rather fast. While this didn’t bother me, it might be problematic for some readers.

I do have to say this is a light read. It’s breezy and once I decided to keep going, it did flow. I had to keep reading because I wanted to see how this book would end. I liked the idea of people seeing lights in the sky and Jeremy going to Boone Creek to figure the lights out. It was an intriguing part of the storyline. I appreciated how the skepticism didn’t come off as foolishness and the total belief didn’t come off silly, either. There’s nothing wrong with believing or not and I liked that.

If you want a book that will take you away for a few hours, then this might be the book for you.

Kevin is a great hero. He’s the kind of guy I want to read about. Strong and solid, but when he loves, he doesn’t quit. Then there’s Scarlet. She’s quite the woman. I love how she describes herself as a walking catastrophe. How many women see themselves the same way? I related to her and rooted for her.

There are moments that will bring a tear to the eye and others that singe the screen. I’m glad. The breadth of emotion in this story made it a wonderful read. I needed to know what would happen for Kevin and Scarlet and I wasn’t disappointed. If you want heat and heart, then this is the book for you.

A great mix of old and new, but oh so realistic.

I’ve never read a Molly Ringle book before and I’m glad I rectified it. I’ll certainly go back and read the others in this series. The writing was crisp, sharp and kept me on my toes. I had to know what was going to happen next. Ms Ringle writes characters that are well-rounded and likable, even when they’re going through some serious emotional crisises.

I liked how the author moved between the present and the past, showing the different sides of the characters. While it was interesting, sometimes I did get confused. I had to reread a few times to make sure I understood what was going on and who did what. There were a lot of characters and a lot happening.

That said, I was immersed in their world and enjoyed reading about these immortals. If you want a book that will challenge, excite and enthrall you, then this might be the book for you. There’s a whole lot going on and it’s overwhelming, but very cool.

I love the work of Madison Sevier and the Asphalt Cowboys are a great addition to what she’s already written. The dialogue is snappy and the characters have great chemistry. I raced through this book and had to know what would happen next. Had to.

Savannah is a great foil for Mason. He’s got a big heart and is willing to jump in when she needs him, but that’s part of the problem–she doesn’t want to need him. I loved it. He gives her a run for her money and she keeps him on his toes.

I have to admit there’s a portion of the story that isn’t for the faint of heart. Ms Sevier handles the topic of dog fighting in the book. It’s not pretty, but it’s never pretty. It’s handled with care, but still, if you don’t even want to read about it, you might want to skip over that part.

I said the chemistry is off the charts. I loved how he cared about her and wanted the best for her, even if it broke his heart. If you want a book that’s heavy on the heart and hot romance, then this might be the book for you.

I’ve read plenty of books with plenty of sweet, nice heroes. That’s not Dornan. Sweet isn’t in his vocabulary. I was intrigued, irritated and needed to read more.

I started off liking this book. Ms. St Germain has a way with words. I even liked the characters–despite Dornan being…hard to take.

The longer I read, the more my liking wore off. The writing started off well. Like I said, I was intrigued. But I had a very hard time warming up to Mariana. I get that she’s edgy and has been with a motorcycle club for a long, long time, but instead of getting the strong vibe I expected from her, I kept thinking this woman was so broken. Maybe that was the point. Maybe I supposed to see her as messed up and in need of salvation. If that was the case, then it worked.

While this might not have been the best book for me… it was different. There was plenty of action and adventure. The mistrust and code of conduct going on was very intoxicating. I can see where these characters might be fantastic and sexy.

This book might not have been the one highest on my list, this is a hot read. There’s tension, sweaty hot bodies and plenty of dominance. Give it a try. You might find your next sexy read between it’s pages.
