Reviewed by MoonflowerA painfully awkward love story.
Incomprehensibly awkward Elizabeth Wilde is desperate for love. Connection. Intimacy. After a lifetime of romantic failures, the twenty-one-year-old gamer realizes she needs help. Professional help. She needs…
A sex tutor. The devastatingly hot jock Austin Jacobs is just the man for the job. As the reigning campus sex god, he has the playboy act down pat. But underneath those six-pack abs beats a broken heart. He doesn’t trust people and he sure as hell doesn’t believe in love.
The odd couple strike a deal. Four weeks of ‘tutoring’ for five thousand dollars.
When Austin coaxes Elizabeth out from behind her computer screen, the attraction they feel is undeniable. They’re both a little broken, but somehow their jagged edges fit. And when their world comes tumbling down on top of them, they each have to decide if this weird thing called love is worth fighting for.
This trope is one that has seen a fair few stories – a shy, nerdy girl with an outgoing, athletic boy. Add into this the opposite wealth status and I thought it would be a fairly standard, run-of-the-mill story. I was so wrong!!! Elizabeth is a character that will charm you with her social ineptness. Austin will make you smile as you see past his defences and understand why he acts that way. And you will cheer for Elizabeth when she is strong enough to go for what she wants, rather than what she should accept.
I found this to be extremely well-written and was taken into the story from the very beginning. There are characters here to love, and those to dislike. One thing I loved about this story is what you see isn’t always what you get. Jessie is a brilliant character who added to the story, instead of being a one-dimensional Barbie!
I do love a good epilogue, and this one punches well above its weight! Superb, to put it simply. The story brought tears to my eyes, the epilogue set them free. A brilliant book, first in the series, and highly recommended by me. Can’t wait for the next!
It does seem like that trope is exploited a lot. Why isn’t it the opposite a shy nerdy guy with an atheltic girl? mix it up a little.
Fair point…I’m going to add this to my list of story ideas now.
