Two people thrown together by work. Sparks are sure to fly.

I love the books of Jennifer Crusie. I could read her books over and over. That’s why I picked up Sizzle. I saw this short book and thought, okay, I know this author. I need to read it. I’m glad I did. This has to be early in her career, but it’s still worth the read.

Now, I mentioned it seems like this book came from early in her career. Why would I say that? First, it says it was published in 1994, so that’s a bit ago, but also the tone of the book. The characters are odd. Emily is very snappish. She’s angry and hurt. I’d say guarded, too. She wants to be in control, which makes sense because she’s good at her job of promoting fragrances, but she’s almost too controlling and hard to root for. Then there’s Richard. He’s almost the same–controlling and forthright, almost to a fault. I wanted to like them and root for them to get together, but it was hard in spots.

Still, I’m glad the book turned out the way it did and it’s a quick read. It’s a worthy read, if you’re looking for something different with a definite power struggle in it. If you’re a Jennifer Crusie fan, then this is one not to be missed.
