Aster Worthington is whisked away from delivering an astronomy lecture to a secret facility in New Mexico. There she spearheads a select group of scientists investigating First Contact with an alien civilization, in this case a message from an altruistic race called the Lambdons who are offering plans for a reactor giving humanity free energy. Humans build the reactor and, per the instructions from the message, house it in a massive Dome.

Seven years later strange things have been happening inside the Dome and Aster is sent in to investigate. She finds impossibly high buildings filling the interior and weird life forms inhabiting what should a sterile environment. Then the impossible happens: thousands of Lambdons are found inhabiting the Dome and they are not friendly at all. Now two civilizations are on a collision course and humanity is most definitely going to lose. The last hope of humanity? A two-thousand-year old scroll hidden by the church.

We’ve all heard the saying “when something seems too good to be true, it probably is.” Aster Worthington and her First Contact team find out the truth about that saying first hand in a non-stop, whirlwind, roller coaster ride in Robert Sell’s science fiction Revelations.

I’m a sucker for ensemble pieces and these characters all pull their weight in this story. I loved Aster…even if I could have shaken her sometimes for her stubbornness. But, it’s that same stubbornness that got her where she was, so there is that. Every member of the team was important, though, and the story would not have been the same without any of them (although I do have to admit to harboring a soft place for Jeremy and Louis). The government officials.. well, let’s just say their actions did not surprise me. ’nuff said about that.

I’m not going to say anything about the ending except to say it was satisfying to this reader. I could so see this as a movie and would definitely go to see it. Good job, Mr. Sells!

I’m finishing a romance-murder-mystery story. A high school girl is traumatized by her best friend’s gruesome murder. She returns to the same town twelve years later only to discover another crime, identical to the first, just happened. Lucky her, huh? Anyway, she stays in town and interfaces with the three main investigators of the present crime… police chief, sheriff, and FBI investigator. Well, “interfaces” is not quite enough… she, at different times, has… ahem… relations with each man. Then she uncovers a clue from the first murder, twelve years before. A clue that implicates one of the three men being the actual murder (twelve years before). So, she knows she’s dealing with a serious serial killer, but to whom does she go to present the new information? An interesting “who-done-it?”.
