Country star Emmy Lou King is singing the blues over the cowboy who got away…

Emmy Lou King’s whole family is legendary in country music. When she lands the opportunity to sing the American Football League anthem and serve on one of the AFL’s anti-drug charities, she’s sure she can handle working with Brock Watson. She was charmed by the cowboy once upon a time―and she’s never loved anyone else―but she can handle it. Right?

Brock Watson is feeling the pressure. From dealing with his father’s declining health, to keeping their ranch running, staying in game-ready shape, and his dedication to the charity that changed his life, there’s no time for anything else. Emmy Lou included. After six years, he’d like to think she couldn’t mess with his head anymore. But one look, one smile―and he knows she’s as dangerous as ever. He can’t resist her―he never could.

If you are like me and you love reading second chance romance stories, you will be captivated by this slow burn story involving a good looking football player and a sweet country singer.

I loved everything about this feel good, emotional story. Brock and Emmy were madly in love as teenagers, but they broke up over a misunderstanding. They are brought back together when they both volunteer for the same charity.

Brock and Emmy are so easy to like, but their story broke my heart and I wanted them to finally get the HEA they deserve. They are meant to be together and hopefully, this time, everything will work out. Unfortunately, people seem to continually get in the way. Brock and Emmy are perfect for each other but before they can have another chance at love, they have to sift through all the lies. There is an underlying sexual tension every time Brock and Emmy are together, but they still have lingering hurt feelings and are afraid to put themselves out there again.

Brock is totally swoony, he is charming and nice and an all around good guy. Even though he is one of the most successful players in the league, Brock has insecurities, which hold him back from showing his true feelings. What I loved most about Brock, is how protective he is of Emmy. He has always loved her and for him, there is no one else to compare with her.

Emmy and her family are famous country music stars but unfortunately, her family has a lot of dysfunction. Emmys biggest fault is that she is too sweet and trusting and because of that, she trusts the wrong people. Even though Brock broke her heart years ago, when Emmy sees him again, she can’t help what her heart feels.

This is a heartwarming story with witty dialogue and I especially loved all the banter between the three King siblings. They love to give each other a hard time, but they always have each other’s back.

This is the second book in the Kings of Country series and highly recommend this captivating story. My only disappointment was that the story ended so quickly.

My primary focus has always been taking care of were-babies in the interspecies foster care system. I am unapologetically a fierce mama bear shifter and I am completely united with my team behind protecting at-risk were-children. So I have no idea why the appealing scruffy bear shifter PI David Auberon keeps hanging around, asking for sweets, and being charming and flirty. I’ve certainly got no time for shy solitary bears who can’t ask for what they want.

But what am I to do when a hideous bad guy shows up and I need to rescue a were-baby, except call on the skills of the handsome and growly PI? And if dodging enemies puts us in a tight spot…well, I’m not against tight spots.

It’s been years since I’ve read a book by Ms. Davidson and I’m glad I dipped my toes back into her writing style because Bears Behaving Badly was an entertaining mix of humor, mystery, werebear action and love shenanigans in closets and hospital beds. There were interesting secondary characters and a plot that was heavy, serious and yet, by virtue of the author’s writing style I remembered so well, never overwhelmed the book in darkness. It could have but I’m glad the author writes the way she does because I enjoyed the story from beginning to end. The good guys persevered, eventually, and the bad guys – well, the bad guys met the heroine, and wow, did she make an impression.

Annette is a woman who believes in saving kids. She gives her whole heart into her job and really cares for the kids she’s in charge of. She’s a defender, advocate and a wonderful character to get to know. She has a few quirks that lend humor and cuteness. Her partner against crime turns out to be a guy who should buy stocks in a maple syrup company. I like the sweet stuff but the hero beats anyone I know in that arena. Plus, the color red in any confectionary goodness makes an interesting entry into the relationship between Annette and David. I thought it clever, adorable and unique.

There was action because the bad guys were trying to stop Annette, David and their helpers from finding out what was actually going on and who was involved. The fight scenes were brief but well written and effective. There were bruises, contusions, torn clothing, near misses and fisticuffs. There were also wonderful acts of heroism, caring, friendship, family bonds and a stumbly, bumbly, relationship turning into love. The happily ever after was cute, satisfying and well done. I liked meeting Annette and David and I truly look forward to finding which secondary character in Annette’s ‘family’ will take center stage. I recommend Bears Behaving Badly for readers who enjoy madcap, criminal capers with an HEA to tie it up with a delightful happy bow.

Can the Holiday Heroes deliver presents without being spotted? Will they be able to pull off Christmas in the end?

Everyone needs to take a sick day eventually!

My favorite part of this picture book were the profiles that were included about Santa, the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, a leprechaun, and a witch. These profiles gave the audience so much information about all five of these classic fantasy characters, including some facts about their lives that were downright funny. It was nice to have these glimpses of who these individuals were, especially when it came to the portions of their lives that weren’t necessarily part of the traditional canons about them.

I would have liked to see more time spent on plot and character development. The blurb and first scene of this tale were filled with so much promise, so I was disappointed with how quickly some of the most exciting plot twists were either not shown or mentioned only in passing. This was a fabulous idea that could have been expanded upon so much more than it was.

While this wasn’t specifically about Covid-19, the thought of Santa needing help delivering presents due to being sick and in quarantine is certainly timely this holiday season. I appreciated the way the narrator explained this turn of events in ways that were honest about his illness but still reassuring for young readers. It was also interesting to see how this concept was addressed again in the final scene. There was certainly room for a sequel, but it also felt nice to have a resolution to this problem.

The Holiday Heroes Save Christmas should be read by anyone who has a vivid imagination and loves Christmas.

This was more a story of a serious tone than the cozy I thought it would be. I think the name and the series title, “A Fur Haven Dog Park Novel” gave me the impression it would be lighter. My mistaken notion did not affect the enjoyment of this read. It turned out that the story had a lot more depth than I thought it would. It had its moments of humor. Having dogs involved can always put a smile on your face. While romance is not my favorite genre, this light romance had some realistic moments. Some things we must unfortunately deal with in everyday life.

While the characters and the dogs were well defined, I did get a little frustrated with Carrie’s on again off again dithering. Wanted to scream at her, “fall back in love or don’t”. Then again, maybe that’s the whole point of the story. Move the reader to feel, to emote.

A Tail for Two is Book 2 in the series of three books to date. While it can be read as a stand-alone, it was enjoyable and worth my time enough to hope Book 4 is in the making.

I’m a sucker for dog books. Look through my previous reviews and you’ll see it. I like my dog books. I like the work of this author, too. Teri Anne Stanley has penned a story that kept me on the edge of my seat needing to know what would happen next. I liked the characters, even when they annoyed me, and I wanted to know more. My favorite character has to be D-Day.

The characters are flawed and it’s a good thing. I got emotionally involved with them right away. D-Day is a big, goofy dog that wants to belong. He ends up in Lizzie’s SUV and won’t leave. I know it’s a bit of a stretch for a stray to become a service dog so fast, but I liked how D-Day attached to Adam and helped him with his PTSD. Lizzie is a piece of work in that she’s headstrong, but I liked it. She knew what she wanted and why she wanted to stay around Big Chance. I wish she wouldn’t have worried about her past so much, but who hasn’t got things they wish they could change? You know? Then there’s Adam. I wasn’t a fan of the way he referred to D-Day as ‘it’, but he grew on me. I also wasn’t a fan of his constant insistence on leaving Big Chance. He knew a lot, but not everything. I also liked Loretta, the poor pit bull left for dead with her pups. I won’t get into the details, but if animal abuse is a trigger for you, Lortta’s part of the story and mentions in other places in the story will be triggers. Unfortunately, animals aren’t always treated like royalty and this book doesn’t glorify it, but it does show another way to handle the aftermath.

Over her radio, Jes hears her teammates being savagely attacked. She runs to help, but she’s too late. Convinced that the creature who butchered her teammates was a werewolf, Jes doesn’t trust them. But if they’re going to uncover the facts and make it back home alive, she’ll need Jake’s help. And with everything on the line, Jes will have to accept Jake for who he is, or lose the partner she never expected to find…

Jestina Ridley is in London working on a kidnapping case of 14-year-old Olivia Phillips, who is the daughter of a high-ranking member of MI5 (the British Security Service). She works for STAT, a government agency that deals with cases involving supernatural creatures. She was following a lead which ends up costing the lives of her two teammates to a supernatural creature she had never seen before. Her boss, McKay, is having her become a member of a mixed team of humans and supernatural creatures. This team is going to be a trial run to see just how well it could work out, maybe better than just a human force.

Jake Huang, a former Navy SEAL, cop, and a werewolf, had been chosen to be the pack/team leader as he has the most experience leading a team besides Jes, and Jes doesn’t know as much as he does about how to work with other supernatural creatures. He meets the rest of his team: A female Alpha werewolf named Harley Grant, a male omega werewolf named Caleb Lynch, along with a human named Forrest Albright and a woman with a cool ability named Mistal Swanson.

The author has some great new ideas and changes to the ‘normal’ ideals of a werewolf and an ability that I think is been overlooked for a long time. The author has her werewolf’s eyes change color based on what type they are: gold for Alpha, blue for Beta, and green for Omega. Also, their Omegas are completely different from others I have read about. They are considered loners, and much closer to their animal side which can cause them to have control issues. Betas rely on their Alpha’s to protect them, although they will protect themselves if it is an extreme issue. This author’s werewolves are born with a genetic abnormality that causes them to change into their were form after trauma.

Each character has their own personalities, which actually seems to make the team better. Jake is a strong man, full of compassion, the ability to make choices quickly, and had that special something that pulled people together. As an Alpha, he felt the need to protect his people–even Caleb who could be a trial. Jes is a wonderful woman that anyone would be proud to have on their team. She has nerves of steel, the ability like Jake to take in a situation and make a quick decision. She does have her faults. She doesn’t trust people easily as she has lost many teammates.

The plot is full of suspense, action, shoot-outs, evil plots, and strange supernatural creatures that are supposed to not exist. I liked just how matter-of-fact the werewolves find it to kill, especially if they are threatening someone they consider theirs. Also, the way they fight is much different as they actually use and prefer guns to teeth and claws if they can help it. The end was rather explosive, and I loved it. The romance between Jes and Jake was sweet and hot, I love the soulmate angle and just how protective they both were. It was rather fun watching them squirm whenever they were apart, not wanting to lose the other. I adore just how protective Jake was through the story. He hates to let her out of his sight. Unfortunately, their romance had to take a back seat to the mission. In the end they became a strong family, ready and willing to take on the world.

I loved this plot and the variants that the author added about werewolves and other abilities and creatures. It was interesting watching the team build themselves into a pack, ready and willing to kill whoever tried to hurt one of theirs. The action was incredibly done, and I was drawn along for the ride, feeling their adrenaline and shame when their missions kept falling apart. Recommended.

Bears Behaving Badly is the first book in a new series and it sets up a literary world that isn’t so unlike our own. Except of course, there’s a hidden community of shifters. Bad guys are still bad guys and foster care kids still need someone watching out for and fighting for them.

The element of foster kids as were-shifters was a definite draw for this reader. The fact that one, Caro, is described as ‘selectively mute’ had me wondering about her story. I knew it wouldn’t be pretty but I didn’t see the direction the story would take and that’s a good thing. It wasn’t cookie cutter lit.

A major theme or thread in the story deals with child trafficking. If that’s a sensitive subject, be forewarned. It’s handled very well but it’s there.

The dialogue is pretty funny, clever really, but what I thought the author did especially well was to make the actions of the characters, while in human form, fit their inner were-beast. The werefox are quick and nimble. The bears are protective and strong. The prey animals are meek. Loved Nadia’s fierceness! And Pat is…something different. Pat added some serious color to this novel.

I really enjoyed watching David and Annette’s story develop. They both start out in denial outwardly but totally on board, inwardly, with admitting their attraction. I could see right away it wouldn’t take them long to give in but not without bumps and bruises along the way. Someone is out to kill Annette’s charges and this mamabear isn’t playing around.

Pop culture references are always a win with this reader and the story is chalked full of some of my favorites. There’s also a decent sprinkling of Gen Y and Millennial speak. Having teenagers at home helps to decipher.

An exciting foray into the paranormal with a well built story and a mystery to solve.

A wolf on a mission needs a partner…even if it’s only for one date…

The hot, powerful Wolff brothers have moved to the outskirts of Silver Town and opened a ski lodge. They’ve always wanted to live in a wolf-controlled area, and now they have their chance. They’re settling in for a quiet winter, when their lives suddenly become way more exciting than they’d ever planned.

Private Investigator and gray wolf shifter Josie Grayson is hot on the trail of a dangerous criminal hiding out at the ski lodge when her partner takes ill and must leave her to pursue the mission alone. Blake Wolff steps in—he can’t resist the allure of this brilliant and focused she-wolf whose presence awakens a long dormant yearning in his heart.

As pursuit of their quarry heats up, Blake has a mission of his own…to convince Josie that there’s more to life than work…and that she’s his perfect mate.

There’s nothing worse for a crime investigator than having that one job hanging over their past that never saw closure. It would certainly be worse for someone who had damning evidence that could never be admissible in court. A wolf’s nose may know but that isn’t enough when the perp is human. Now the bad guy is dead…or is he?

Nicole Grayson is good at her job and loves owning her own PI firm in Denver. Her success rate at catching people in insurance fraud has landed her a job that may just help bring closure to an early case in her career that never got justice. It also puts her in close contact with family who owns the Timberline Ski Lodge just out side of Silver Town, CO. More specifically, it puts her in close cover with one Blake Wolff.

Blake and his family moved to Colorado to be together and find connections by being part of the Silver Town wolf pack. He never expected the gray wolf who shows up looking to take down a couple of his lodge guests to be the mate his wolf longs for.

Their story is sweet. Blake will do whatever it takes to keep Nicole safe as she investigates the not-so-dead man and his cousin (who benefited from his death) staying on the fourth floor. The men are clever at cover their tracts and then there’s an additional surprise that I didn’t see coming.

The romance between Blake and Nicole heats up towards the end as does the action in the mystery she’s trying to solve. There’s never really any conflict between Blake and Nicole that has to be worked out so I felt a little let down, looking for growth, new discovery, a reason to cheer on their HEA.

They do have a beautiful future ahead of them, surrounded by family and a super supportive pack. I just didn’t feel a whole lot of chemistry between them that I look for in romance in general but especially paranormal. There’s a lot of telling in this book and it was very informative on the dangers of being caught in an avalanche. It was obvious Ms Spears did her homework there.

Still, the story in itself is complete. The bad guys are established early, her reason for being at the lodge is legit and the way she and Blake come together works. All in all, a good addition to the Silver Town saga of books with plenty of new characters to work in to new layers of the series.

Who would have guessed that a turkey would be so good at running away?

The turkey in this tale had one major problem: stage fright! He was so frightened at the thought of being taken onstage that he had to figure out a way to avoid that fate. As someone who shares that fear, I totally understood why he wanted to avoid the spotlight. The fact that he worked so hard to avoid being brought onstage only made me like him even more.

I would have liked to see more attention paid to the ending. The beginning and middle really didn’t give any hints about why the turkey was going to be paraded in front of the entire school. My theory about what was happening there turned out not to be correct at all. While the author’s version did make sense, it would have been more meaningful if the audience had some idea of what to expect from the beginning. The final scene as it was written sort of came out of nowhere, and it made me enjoy the plot less than I had been before I reached that portion.

The human characters came up with so many creative attempts to get the turkey to slow down and hopefully return to his cage. Some of their methods made me laugh out loud. I enjoyed seeing how they tried to capture him and what happened when even their most clever traps and tricks didn’t seem to be working at all. I wasn’t expecting to laugh when I first started reading it, but I sure had a lot of opportunities to do just that.

This is part of a series, but it works perfectly well as a standalone story.

How to Catch a Turkey is the funniest Thanksgiving picture book I’ve read in years. This is something I’d recommend to anyone who is in the mood for something lighthearted.

I’m not a big fan of clowns. I’m not scared of them on a phobic level, I’m just not that keen! After reading this though, I think my not liking them went up a notch or two. Rachel is suffering from PTSD, not helped by the fact she is certain someone is watching her. Knox joined the hunters before he knew who they really were, and it’s a decision he has regretted ever since. Together, these two need to figure out both of their problems as well as those of the job they have been assigned to. Sounds like fun!

This is book ten in the series although you can read it as a standalone, as I have. Yes, there were times when I would have liked more information, but that is the risk you take when you read a book in a series you haven’t read from the beginning. On the whole, though, I found this to be engrossing and would certainly say it stood on its own feet.

The story itself is well written, with no editing or grammatical errors that I noticed. Some of it was clear to see, other parts were shrouded in mystery, keeping me on my toes as I read. There was also plenty of anticipation and build-up between our two main characters which only added to the story, in my opinion.

A brilliant read and the series is now on my TBR pile! Absolutely recommended by me.
