Brogan Byrne can be rude, obnoxious, and in general a major prick but he can’t be hated. I tried. But Brogan is not only pain and suffering, he has personality. He has a physique to die for and a voice that could melt anyone’s heart. Mrs. Gerrard does a splendid job at describing this charisma and I felt as if it literary jumped off the pages.

It is, I believe, almost impossible not to fall for Brogan Bryne. Carly, the heroine, did a great job at trying. She had reasons that also hinted at a dark past filled pain, for not getting involved. However, her tough, work-centered attitude was no match against the desire and emotion surging between her and Brogan. Still, watching her fight, attempt to stay afloat, fall a little and then get up and fight some more, was wonderful.

Though he’s only a secondary character, I have to mention Glo. I enjoyed reading about him and the help he always was for both Brogan and Carly.

Mrs. Gerrard not only depicts vivid sexual scenes between the characters, but also romantic, heartfelt scenes. At times the sexual tension between Brogan and Carly was palpable but so was the need, that something special that made their relationship a lot more important than just a simple conquest.

Heart of Rock is a very enjoyable novella, with characters that feel real, sizzling passion, tender emotions and the best kind of music. A definite must read!

It is more real for me that way. The immediate chemistry was fine, but in a sleazy catty way that left me a little cold at the start. I want to have an emotional connection to the character first, not a boink fest.

The final blow, I think was the introduction of BDSM to the sex scenes without a necessary conversation with Amanda. Let me be clear. You need to know what you are getting into before you go into a scene, especially when you are dealing with a rape victim. The author did try to capture this, but there was more opportunity to show a gradual trust building and her acquiescence. One other note; BDSM is great. This short story is full of wonderful, kinky sex. The ménage between Beth and her friends – Sam and Janet – is not overly graphic, but more is a tool to explain how Beth is introduced to the BDSM scene at the club. The main relationship is between Jonah and Beth and that’s quite clearly portrayed from the start. I really enjoyed how safe the club’s rules were. This meant Beth and Jonah’s first encounter started with both Sam and Janet present (though not actively participating sexually). While some might think it strange, I totally understood how necessary this was for Beth as the dipped a toe into the scene. It made her feel safe and I thought it an excellent detail some authors gloss over. While not shy – Beth is a newbie and not ready to jump into the scene all in one hit.

I was a little disappointed at how quickly the scenes jump. I figure this is partly due to the short word limit – but a part of me would have much preferred fewer scenes and having them longer, more detailed. I also found it mildly unrealistic that Beth wouldn’t ask questions of her secret Dom or try to discover his identity in more than three months of weekly encounters. The three month jump where she still had no idea of Jonah’s identity pulled me a little out of the story, because I found it odd she had no desire to learn who her secret lover was.

Still, this was a deeply satisfying read. Jonah and Beth have a lot of chemistry working between them, and I felt the fact Beth is blindfolded a lot during her and her Dom’s interactions adds to the sexual tension and the dynamic between them. While the BDSM is integral to the plot, the kink isn’t way over in the “extreme” side of things. Certainly not a tale for the faint of heart, neither did I find it too much or offensive – most of the more common taboos are avoided and most importantly from my perspective as a reader, Jonah at all times respects Beth and takes cues from her reactions and her body language. He’s both a hard Dominant, but also a caring, generous man – the perfect blend to my mind.

An awesome, quick read for a lonely evening at home with a hot bath and a glass of wine (or possibly even a toy or two when you’re in the mood to spice things up) this is a wonderful read.

Not only has I.J. Miller captured the essence of the original heartbreak of this book, he gave me many sleepless nights dreaming about Wuthering Heights and The Grange. Erotic, toe curling action interwoven with the story brought a new vibrancy to this already well loved tale and now I can’t think of one without superimposing the other. This was no meek story that snored along like some erotic classics I have read in the past. Oh no. This one will have you clutching a bottle of ice water and gasping for air. The sex scenes are scorching and offer a deeper insight into the characters and their motivations. It is raw, visceral, full of psychological elements that delve deep into the minds of the characters and make you question your own reactions to what you are reading. Heathcliff’s character is true to form. He is a brute, through and through. I.J. There are some dark points in the story worth mentioning. Dungeon scenes of questionable consent could be a trigger for some readers. From the first page, this story grabbed my interest. Here was a girl in Italy studying the mob. Talk about poking a bear with a stick! As X gets in deeper, you get a tour of the best and worst that Italy has to offer, both in experiences and travel destinations. As she becomes involved with Marcus sexually, hidden dimensions about the man, his past and whether their relationship can possibly go any further glued me to my chair. Was he in the Italian mob? How did he garner his fortune? What was that about a dead wife with a whole lot of money that he inherited? Lots of questions kept me guessing and that wasn’t even the best part.

Marcus is a member of a Mystery Religion based out of a Dionysian tradition. It is secretive and dangerous and in order for X to see him, she has to be initiated into the society. Fearful and upset, X is repelled by the idea, but can’t stand the thought of being apart fromMarcus. The Mysteries are a series of rites performed in secret locations that involve ancient knowledge, sexual situations and drugs. Leading her into this hidden world, Marcus tries to protect her even as they both get deeper into the intricacies of the Italian mob and the web of violence and intrigue that comes with it.

The Story of X is a compelling read that takes smoking hot sex scenes and pairs them with a Mystery religion so that the two are intertwined. BDSM elements including voyeurism, drugged orgies, multiple partners, public spankings, nudity and whippings are all a part of the initiation process. Not to mention a special tattoo as well. Marcus is a conflicted character with a lot of personal history to deal with and X has to navigate some seriously shark infested waters if she is going to be with this smoking hot billionaire.

Overall, this book was such a different BDSM twist that it had me guessing the entire time. Part mystery, part erotic romance, this story was unique enough that I could not put it down. Everyone hears about the fun parts of Italy, but what about the slums and crime ridden parts? This author did a great job of letting me see the good, bad and ugly while still keeping me riveted to the passion between the characters and what was at stake if the initiation didn’t take place.

For a hot read with some biting dialog, nicely rounded characters and a tour of Italy that reads like the most interesting travel brochure ever, put this one on your reading list.

Synn is driven to help the souls that were lost believing he doomed them. Synn is a very conflicted character. He has one goal and does not want anything to get in the way of that goal. Rena seems to be significant to Synn being able to set the ghosts free.

I found it unrealistic how Rena and Valerie had such a casual attitude toward the ghosts that appeared all over the property. I would have expected either Valerie of Rena to become upset some way. I also found it very unbelievable that it did not occur to anyone that Synn might be something paranormal.  I also think Eric, the evil ghost, added little the overall story, nor was he a focus of the story. He was more of a pain.

What did I love?  The chemistry between Synn and Rena! I loved the sex scenes between them.  They were very hot and steamy. This is a true love story between them.

The happy ending in this story was absolutely perfect and completely unexpected. In fact, this story has many plot twists that kept me interested throughout. Overall, this was a great story.

There are books that seduce you by the first chapter. This book claimed my heart on the first page.

There are twenty three poems and short stories that take eroticism and throw it to the winds, letting it fall wherever it may. These short pieces and pearls of poetry take in gay, straight, lesbian and everything in between and craft moving tales and thoughts that both arouse and make you think about what you are reading. To me, it was a love story; a gift to the reader that appreciates fine writing and not your typical episodes of BDSM.

The short works of fiction in this collection blew my mind. They are windows into worlds that some of us never imagine we could be a part of. Isn’t that the true gift of reading, or writing for that matter? The ability to read something and go somewhere far, far away from the screaming kids, the endless day at work, or doing the supper dishes. As an author, the greatest joy I have is in writing something that invokes that feeling, and Elissa Wald did just that. This book was one of the most engaging reads I have read in quite awhile. Think brilliant primary colors. Think carnival lights and swarthy men with tattoos. Think sex.

From the first story, The Initiation, where we meet Delilah, a budding submissive who struggles with the demons inside her, to the sexy Kim who isn’t quite sure what to make of Delilah’s fixation on pain. This story was gripping and visceral and I couldn’t put the book down, even to sleep. The second story installment is Ruby and the Bull. This is the story of Ruby and Judd. The sixth story, Turned Out, is a beautiful story about hope growing up from a bed of concrete. Nelson has just gotten out of prison and while he is happy, his senses are on overload. He misses the routine and security of the life inside and the domineering partnership he shared with The Axe, the male dominant he subbed to inside. This piece walks you through deep feelings and longings of the heart.

The last story, The Illustrating Man, is one that will stick in your mind long after you have read it. Sexy and as intricate as a well done tattoo, this story takes off when a female reporter finds out a childhood savior is wanted for murder. In a beautifully wound tale, the author shows you people that were affected by the artist’s insight and unique method of tattooing. It is sensual and one that scratches down into the deepest part of you and leaves a mark.

The poetry in this collection is also inspiring, spiritual and evocative.

If you are looking for a book that takes you into the souls of many unique and worthy characters, then you need to read this collection. Rich, lush and full of vibrant eroticism, this book is a keeper on my favorite shelf. You won’t forget any of the characters and how easily this author can slip into the minds of anyone and walk a mile in their shoes. The erotic portions are done very well and titillate the mind as well as the body.

For a collection that will have you dreaming carnival dreams of tattooed men, ladies that lust and of heartfelt loves that like life, do not always have a sparkling happily ever after, then you need to read this book.

I wondered if this short story added a bit of additional plot to an over-riding story arc, but this being my first book read in the series I can’t be sure. There was the feeling of subtle clues and hints dropped into the story, but being unfamiliar with the full cast it left me a bit behind and confused.

People following the author’s books will likely find many excellent tid-bits, but even readers just starting will find Jeremy and Jax interesting and great characters in their own right. I loved seeing them hook up and cheered for them when they finally got together. The consummation scene wasn’t skimped on and I found it deeply satisfying. Small hooks for other books have me curious and I like this author’s voice well enough to look them up. Strongly recommended.
