When she encounters him on a darkened balcony, he steals a kiss and warns her away. His stolen kiss promises a passion she wants to explore. At every occasion he attends, she tempts him with her own promise. Soon the earl falls for her charms and sends her down a path of ruination with one incident after another. Can Dallis overcome the scandal of the earl’s pursuit?

Roderick Beckwith watched the Scottish beauty from afar. He lost his heart the moment he set eyes upon her. Throughout the season every gentleman offered her a dance, but him. With his financial affairs on the brink of disaster, he couldn’t provide her with the life she deserved. When his mother introduces his sworn enemy to his heart’s desire, he must set aside his pride. However, his courtship is less than ideal. At every opportunity he brings scandal to her name. Can Rory redeem himself and prove to Dallis that he is a gentleman worth loving?

With every glance, Dallis pulls Rory in deeper. His stolen kisses forces him to make her an offer of marriage. As they prepare for their wedding, he acts as the perfect gentleman. However, the proper gentleman was not who Dallis desired. Will her scoundrel show himself before they say I do?

I was really anticipating reading Rory’s love story after the other “Tricking the Scoundrels” books because I really admired him in the previous two stories. I have read all of Laura A. Barnes’ books and consider myself a huge fan.

Often in a series, each book can be read as a standalone read; other times it would be better if all the books were read in sequence because each story builds on the one before. The Tricking the Scoundrel series falls into the second category. I’ve used this analogy once before in a review and it applies to this one as well. I Shall Love the Earl is like the hamburger patty in a Burger King Whopper. Sure, if you had to eat it alone, it would be tasty. But, it’s going to taste a whole lot better with the bun and fixings.

Why do I use that analogy? It’s because I loved Rory in the first two books. If I hadn’t read the two previous books, there’s a good chance that I would not have enjoyed this book. Unfortunately, I found him annoying in this book and I was disappointed in him. Considering he was the leading character in I Shall Love the Earl, this character flaw was a big issue for me. Laura A. Barnes’ writing style has never been repetitious but I got irritated with Rory for being so prideful. It was a bit of a head banger to keep reading over and over how he didn’t feel like he deserved Dallis because he was broke. Rory’s story was a thin hamburger patty at best because there wasn’t much thickness or substance to the plot. It kills me to write these negative comments because I love the series. I just feel there could have been more substance in Rory’ love story. There is a fourth book still to come and the heroine is going to be Rory’s sister, Kathleen. I am definitely going to read it. The hero, Lord Holdenburg, is already intriguing. I’m going to assume their story is going to be the condiments on my Whopper.

The heroine, Dallis also didn’t win any points in my eyes. How many times was she going to let Rory scandalize her? I guess it doesn’t really matter because I’m happy that Rory found his happily ever after. I enjoyed the guest appearances of Sophia, Sidney, Wilde, Sheffield, and Belle – all characters from the previous books in the Tricking the Scoundrel series. I’m curious if Belle is going to have her own love story. She’s a unique and interesting character.

In conclusion, I liked this story but overall, I love the series more and I can’t wait for the next one to be released later this year, 2020. My recommendation is to read this book after you’ve read the first two. It has enough good stuff in it to make it worth a reader’s time.

But when her brother is kidnapped and the existence of the Talents revealed, she must ask Jake for help—even though being near him triggers panic attacks she doesn’t understand.

A BDSM club is the perfect place for Jake to manage his endless need for dominance and the underground world the Talents inhabit. When Zoe needs him, Jake must lead the charge and take on the only power greater than themselves—a superhuman army modeled after the Talents—and the one woman who can threaten his entire world.

Imagine being told for your whole life to keep a secret. And not only that, but you have no desire to share said secret, and just do whatever is necessary to keep your family intact and functioning whilst keeping all your heads down. This is what life is like for Zoe, at least to begin with. All that changes when someone walks into her café and tries to rob her.

This was a great take on Talents, and each chapter gave you something else to think about and focus on. The connection between Jake and Zoe was hot, even more so when it becomes clear just what he did to Zoe when they were younger. There are hints of BDSM in here (they are based under a BDSM club, after all) but the reasons for this all become clear. About Jake – I understand why he did what he did, but I don’t like it. As for Zoe, she is doing what she thinks needs to be done. As for whether it will work or not, well, that remains to be seen.

The writing is smooth, with plenty of steam thrown in too. There are plenty of characters here to like or loathe, and some you won’t even know which way to feel.

As you may have guessed, this book ends on a cliffhanger and will definitely leave you wanting more. This was a new-to-me author and one I will absolutely be keeping an eye out for. Plus, I need to continue with this series!! Cliffhanger, remember?!

London, 1884.

While other twenty-seven-year-old, middle-class women think about rearing children and attending dinner parties, Hazel finds herself unmarried and unemployed.

The stuffy barons of the Royal Archaeologic Society don’t believe a woman can be an archaeologist, so they gave her the sack. Having slapped the leader of the society when he groped her breasts might have something to do with losing her job.
With bills to pay and a stomach to fill, she accepts a position as dealer in ancient artefacts. It’d be her dream job except that her new employer, Tyon Sancerre, has more secrets than an Egyptian tomb and is probably involved with the Whitechapel’s mob.

When he says he needs her to find his long-lost fellow crusader knights, she thinks he’s mad, a rich, handsome, but mad man.

Tyon claims to be a sin-eater, a human turned into an immortal to clean people’s souls from their sins. After he and the other sin-eaters—the knights of the White Blade—were cursed, they were separated and scattered around the world. Alone the sin-eaters don’t hold much power, and with their enemies—the sin-breathers—multiplying and causing wars and famine, the only way Tyon has to find his brothers is through a relic Hazel worked with at the museum.

It’s all poppycock, that’s what she says. But when sin-breathers attack them, a ghost appears to her, and she witnesses wounds healing themselves in a moment, she wonders if her beliefs need to be reconsidered.

And the worst thing? She’s falling in love with an immortal, cranky, too-many-centuries-year-old white knight.

Hazel works in the museum for the Royal Archaeological Society, determined to be different from her dad, who died a laughingstock. She believes in science, not magic. What she believes though, is about to be turned on its head.

This was a great story that captured and held my interest all the way through. Hazel’s reasons for the way she is are clearly explained, leaving you in no doubt about the way she acts. Tyon, on the other hand, is a bit of an enigma; his story only coming out in fits and starts. There is an attraction between them although they don’t act on it straight away. Aleximanus has his own story to tell, and it’s not one you think of to begin with. My heart broke just a little bit for him and I really can’t wait to read his story (I’m optimistic he will get one.)

This is a complex and intriguing story, delving into myths and legends you may not have heard of. The world-building is excellent, and the characters have a richness about them that immediately helps you to connect with them. This is the first book in the series so you are left with a slight cliffhanger regarding one of the characters, plus a HFN for our two main characters.

I honestly can’t wait to see where this story goes next! Absolutely recommended by me.

Rachel isn’t sure she trusts Knox, but having him around keeps the nightmares—and the monster creating them—away. Knox might not know much about being a werewolf, but there’s no doubt he’ll do everything in his power to win her trust and keep her safe.

I’m not a big fan of clowns. I’m not scared of them on a phobic level, I’m just not that keen! After reading this though, I think my not liking them went up a notch or two. Rachel is suffering from PTSD, not helped by the fact she is certain someone is watching her. Knox joined the hunters before he knew who they really were, and it’s a decision he has regretted ever since. Together, these two need to figure out both of their problems as well as those of the job they have been assigned to. Sounds like fun!

This is book ten in the series although you can read it as a standalone, as I have. Yes, there were times when I would have liked more information, but that is the risk you take when you read a book in a series you haven’t read from the beginning. On the whole, though, I found this to be engrossing and would certainly say it stood on its own feet.

The story itself is well written, with no editing or grammatical errors that I noticed. Some of it was clear to see, other parts were shrouded in mystery, keeping me on my toes as I read. There was also plenty of anticipation and build-up between our two main characters which only added to the story, in my opinion.

A brilliant read and the series is now on my TBR pile! Absolutely recommended by me.

Wow. This books kicks off in the most ugly way imaginable…far from what one imagines from the jacket; yet, it sets the scene for us to understand the duchess’ motivation.

The Duchess in His Bed seems like it should be a cheery and titillating story. After all, we’re given to understand that the most risque ‘ladies’ club and physical passion are absolutely central. And, though expectations are met in that regard, the real surprise is the Duchess herself. In fact, the depth and quality of all the characters keep this story riveting.

We meet Adien, as he meets the beautiful and previously, shall we say “undervalued”, Duchess of Lashing. Selena is not what she seems and she has some pretty specific goals, as well. Aiden thinks he knows those goals. He is confident in his assessment of women and what might bring them to his services. His surety is undoing.

Lena has a very specific desire but, almost immediately she discovers a conflict. And though she was prepared to pursue her own desires single-mindedly, suddenly, she trips over something like respect. Or is it more? The developing emotions stir the plot quite thoroughly!

Ms. Heath’s historical romance brings together incredibly realistic characters in an unusual and very unpredictable situation. We hardly know what to hope for, never mind expect, as the story charges forward.

Very worth reading; fun and intriguing.

Upon discovering her emotional scars stem from a traumatic event she tried to bury, he vetoes the girlfriends’ dangerous scheme of finding a man to help her rediscover her sexuality, offering to fill the role of lover himself.

What starts as a no-strings arrangement to keep her safe soon becomes an all-consuming passion neither of them is prepared for. Fire burns out of control between them, threatening the very fabric of the friendship they hold so dear. Once the ashes have cooled, will there be anything left to salvage?

The synopsis says “Fire burns out of control between them” “Once the ashes have cooled, will there be anything left to salvage?” I’m not sure when the fire ever went out for the ashes to cool. The sexual teasing between the hero and heroine caused such sexual tension I’m surprised my book didn’t melt in my hands.

I’ve read some hot books in the past and I normally never point out heat levels in my reviews but this story was consistently, effectively, hot. There was heavy sexual tension consistently from beginning to end and it was strong enough that I felt it worth mentioning. If readers enjoy material verging on explicit then this story delivers.

The synopsis is the plot. There aren’t any surprise plot twists or other complex scenarios with depth threaded throughout the story but I thought the plot concept sounded interesting enough, and is why I read it. I just thought there’d be more of it. If not for the traumatic event that the heroine, Lucy, endured, then this book would have had nothing to hold it together. Speaking of this traumatic event, I think there should have been a warning to the reader at the beginning of the book regarding the sensitive matter. I credit the author with writing about this traumatic event with respect, compassion and empathy. I don’t have an issue with the topic matter, but I would have appreciated a heads up.

Samuel was a wonderful hero and easy to feel romantic about. His commitment to family and his caring personality to others were a huge draw for me. I’m thankful Lucy had Samuel to help her with her issue. They were destined to be together since childhood. I liked Lucy and found her easy to relate to and together as a couple, I was pleased to see their love for each other blossom. Even better, I do believe they loved each other emotionally, not just physically. I thought it was cute that several of the secondary characters figured out Samuel and Lucy loved each other much sooner than they did themselves.

If you need some inspiration and are looking for something to read to put you in the mood, then this book has the heat to help you get your motors running. I definitely was concerned about overheating myself. I’d recommend this book to those who are comfortable with a romance with a hot rating and all that goes along with it. Just have ice handy.

Disowned, she left Co Galway for Dublin and fell into prostitution. On the advice of a handsome young doctor, she leaves the brothel and enters domestic service. But can Isobel escape her past and adapt to life and the chance of love on Merrion Square? Or will she always be seen as a scarlet woman?

I loved the premise of this book and with the setting being Ireland, I was hooked from the first time I read the blurb. I was looking forward to seeing how the author had her heroine overcome all the difficulties she was facing in her life.

I liked the character of Isobel and, mostly, Will as well. I enjoyed their banter as they got to know each other. And, I loved the way he cared for her regardless of what was going on and how determined he was to make their relationship work.

The first half of the story was really good, and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

The second half of the story took a different twist. Instead of the character development I was seeing on both Will and Isobel’s part, it seemed to read more like a magazine serial. Poor Isabel faced problems on every side (shades of Perils of Pauline). However, she was saved in the nick of time by forces she didn’t bring about – a rich opportunity was missed here, I think. I didn’t mind the roadblocks that were thrown up, but I wish Isabel had done more to save herself. I was disappointed in some of the decisions she made (just another sign of being invested  in a character).

There was also a lot of hot sex thrown in the last part of the book that, imho, was gratuitous and didn’t do anything to move the character development along. I found myself skipping these passages because they weren’t really adding anything to the story and I wanted to get back to it.

However, I was invested enough in the characters from the first half of the book to overlook these issues and move on to find out what happened next in Will and Isobel’s relationship. The writing is clean with no major issues as far as editing goes and it was an easy read.  It was definitely worth reading.

I personally enjoyed this book. It helped pass the time while I sat in traffic that took three hours to go five miles. If not for this book then I would have gone out of my mind.

I thought it was an entertaining read as I read about how Eleanor, the heroine, goes into hiding in a tiny remote town. I was intrigued when I read the synopsis. I wasn’t disappointed at all as I dove into the story and discovered an engaging plot. I thought it was funny when the hero, Tyson, met Eleanor. It was an immediate love at first sight for all of us. I have a soft spot for a man in uniform.

Eleanor’s secrets brought about a bit of mystery that created a sense of suspense. Tyson knew she was hiding something. The story line was pretty predictable but I enjoyed the descriptive writing style. Something else that I appreciated was the character development. Tyson has two brothers that I’m interested in reading about. Fortunately for me Going Down is book one in the Hold out for a Hero series.

The ending was satisfying, especially since Tyson and Eleanor had their happily ever after. The ending of the book hooked me with a sense of curiosity which made me wonder about the the next installment in the series. Because of it, I am interested in reading book two.

This is a fun romance filled with chemistry that made for a steamy car ride for me. This was my first Shelli Stevens book and it won’t be my last. This is a book I recommend.

I’m not exaggerating when I say this book was filled with unpredictable suspense and mystery. I had to put it down to go to sleep, but it took a long time for sleep to come. If I didn’t have to work then I would have just kept on reading. I made sure to finish it when I got home from work.

I’m at a loss for words. If the synopsis sounds interesting to you then definitely give it a chance. The writing style was riveting and it kept me turning the pages as fast as I could from beginning to the end.

I fell in love with Alba, also known as, El Toro, the heroine, and Pharaoh, the hero. They were clearly soulmates with hot chemistry. They had so much in common – from their past hardships to their perseverance to survive.

How realistic was this story? I have no idea but I suppose anything is possible in today’s world, especially in New York. It sounded more than believable to me. I found the scenic descriptions about graffiti art very interesting.

Anyway, I have zero qualms in recommending this thrilling book. It was a really great read!
