A new Interplanetary Alliance ambassador on an earthbound mission. A handful of genetically altered humans to be rescued. Meeting her changed everything.

Twenty-four-year-old Zoey doesn’t have the time to mope over her recent breakup and deal with the royal mess that is heartbreak. Not when she learns she has alien genetic enhancements and powers beyond her control.

And who delivered the news? Her odd, yet attractive downstairs neighbor, Jasper… the New Interplanetary Alliance ambassador.

Before being terminated, their former Interplanetary ambassador, Etienne derailed and teamed up with Professor Trenton Beck in a rogue plan that doesn’t sit well with the universe.

Jasper’s mission on Earth was clear: capture the fugitive scientist responsible for the genetic alteration and retrieve the remaining altered survivors.

Tadalafil may be a restricted and unsafe use cialis without prescriptions uk in these infected conditions.
But now, there’s Zoey.

Some people aren’t what they seem.

Zoey, the heroine, is changed, and she had no idea how. How would she know she’d been abducted by aliens? Sam and Emma are brought into the mess, not because they were changed, but because Sam was kidnapped by the scientist’s protegee, Trenton Beck. There are plenty of characters to keep track of, but each one is memorable, so it’s not a problem.

I found this to be an interesting story, something I don’t run across all the time. I love the characters’ personalities; each one is different but they are all strong, willing to sacrifice everything to protect the ones they love and the Earth they live on. Zoey is the main character and it shows. Sam is outgoing and quick to defend those she loves. She may not have any extra sensory abilities, but she is strong and smart. Emma is brave and a leader. She hits it off with Alex, their resident geek, and learns as much as she can. She is also the mother of the group.

Then there are the Opts: Jasper who is the ambassador who is warm and stern at the same time. He and Zoey have a connection from the moment they met. One of my favorite characters was Lulu, who is the leader, and a fighter. She is the one who knows the most about Earth culture and tought the rest. She is incredibly smart, sassy, and funny. She is the one that helps the women adjust to what is going on.

Then there is the romance between Rufus and Mia, that had been developed under horrendous circumstances, when they were being trained and held captive by Beck. They are so devoted to each other and when they are separated I could feel the pain.

I love the relationship between Zoey and Jasper. It is obvious they love each other but Jasper keeps pushing back. It is against regulations to fall in love with a person from the planet they were staying on. He has to battle his feelings against his duty. Love is a major emotion that is prevalent throughout the book.

The beginning is a tad slow, but once I got past a certain point, things start happening fast. Also, the author switches between different points of view, and I found it jarring in a few sections to figure out who is talking. I also think it rushes a little too fast towards the end, and it left me a tad bit confused. Maybe a slower pacing near the end would have been better.

Other than those few quirks, this was a good read. The characters were so personable, the plot engrossing and the abilities fun to see. The romance is sweet and there seems there could be more, so I’ll have to wait for the sequel to see what happens. If you are into sci-fi, love aliens with great abilities, and strong women, I definitely recommend this book.

But then, there’s one problem: he can’t walk away. He won’t. If only she can forgive him for his greatest mistake…

The world is changing, and the paranormals need to change with it. Jocelyn is an Elemental, just like her sisters. Her fated mate is an alpha shifter, with a major obligation to his pack. Can these two ever find happiness together, or will they be destined to be separate?

This was an intriguing story, with plenty of steam and action going on. The world-building is clear, and the characters are all well written. There was no ‘big bad’ in this story really, which absolutely worked because the trouble between Landon and Jocelyn needed to have its space, without being overcrowded with extra details.

The only thing I’m not too clear on is just how many elements Jocelyn and her sister can control? With their title of Elementals, I would have thought they could use all four. Both sisters only use fire and air, although earth was mentioned for Jenna.

This is definitely a series to continue, and I have no hesitation in recommending it.

His sincerity begins to disarm the front she guards so vigilantly. If she isn’t careful, she could find herself lost to him….

Just as Natalie’s fate begins to turn around, unknowing danger lurks on the horizon. Natalie’s disturbing past is about to make an unexpected return…and with vengeance.

This has the making of an unforgettable book. Abundance is in the caliber of Nora Roberts. There is a little bit of something for everyone. There’s drama, suspense, several heartwarming moments and a steamy romance.

The plot thickens as the story progresses. The writing style exemplifies careful attention to details. The cast of characters evolved as the reader got to know them.

The heroine, Natalie, experiences a misfortune “in the most unspeakable way imaginable”. That’s putting it mildly. My heart was broken for her daughter. I had a little bit of trouble getting past that plot thread because that’s such a sensitive subject. Regardless, it was inspirational to see Natalie rebuild her life.

The hero, Jack Kinsen, was almost too good to be real. I think he had to be written that way if Natalie was ever going to learn to trust in humanity and find herself again.

It was emotionally rewarding to watch Jack and Natalie’s love grow for each other. They make the saying “love conquers all” believable.

The book engaged my interest right away with a prologue and definitely held my attention throughout the story. I knew the suspense part was coming and I could hardly remain on my seat. I appreciate that there was an epilogue for me to bask in.

In conclusion I’d definitely recommend this book to my friends who enjoy to read a love story with an emotionally satisfying resolution.

You will love this debut middle-grade novel with diverse characters, light humor, and a home-schooled, strong female protagonist.

Some people don’t make good guests at parties at all.

There were quite a few characters, but I always had a pretty easy time of remembering who was who. Ms. Henderson did a good job of describing who everyone was, showing what their personalities were like, and giving them names that somehow seemed to fit each one of them perfectly. I enjoyed getting to know every single character, from Curi to the people in her life who only showed up occasionally.

It took me a while to figure out which age group would be the most appropriate recommendation for this story. Curi was the sort of child who spent a great deal of her time with adults listening to them talk. As a result, she overheard some things that most 10-year-olds wouldn’t think of. They were nothing that a child that age should be protected from or anything like that, just topics that tend to be more interesting to grown-ups. As much as I liked meeting a protagonist who truly liked listening to what adults have to say, this did make it a little tricky to decide who it was written for since other parts of the storyline seemed to be written for a much younger audience. This is a minor criticism of something I’m quite glad I read, but it would have been nice to have a clearer understanding of whether this was written for kids in late elementary, middle, or high school.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about this tale were the close, loving relationships that all four of the Andrews had with each other. The parents were attentive and sensitive to their children’s needs. Curi’s relationship with her brother, Taveo, was also strong. They had rare and brief moments of annoyance that every family goes through, but most of their time together was a pleasant experience for everyone involved. I’ve read so many young adult books about kids who have major conflicts with their parents or siblings that it was incredibly refreshing to meet characters who have a peaceful home life. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more of Ms. Henderson’s work based on this wholesome approach to the young adult genre alone!

Dreaded Dinner Party should be read by anyone who has ever felt bored at a dinner party.

Before there was Meghan Markle, there was Consuelo Vanderbilt, the original American Duchess. Perfect for readers of Jennifer Robson and lovers of Downton Abbey.

Karen Harper tells the tale of Consuelo Vanderbilt, her “The Wedding of the Century” to the Duke of Marlborough, and her quest to find meaning behind “the glitter and the gold.”

On a cold November day in 1895, a carriage approaches St Thomas Episcopal Church on New York City’s Fifth Avenue. Massive crowds surge forward, awaiting their glimpse of heiress Consuelo Vanderbilt. Just 18, the beautiful bride has not only arrived late, but in tears, yet her marriage to the aloof Duke of Marlborough proceeds. Bullied into the wedding by her indomitable mother, Alva, Consuelo loves another. But a deal was made, trading some of the vast Vanderbilt wealth for a title and prestige, and Consuelo, bred to obey, realizes she must make the best of things.

At Blenheim Palace, Consuelo is confronted with an overwhelming list of duties, including producing an “heir and a spare,” but her relationship with the duke quickly disintegrates. Consuelo finds an inner strength, charming everyone from debutantes to diplomats including Winston Churchill, as she fights for women’s suffrage. And when she takes a scandalous leap, can she hope to attain love at last…?

From the dawning of the opulent Gilded Age, to the battles of the Second World War, American Duchess is a riveting tale of one woman’s quest to attain independence—at any price.

Billed as a novel of Consuelo Vanderbilt, American Duchess is more than a love story, it’s a story of duty, of searching, of destiny. This is a fictionalized account of the life of an actual person. Beginning in 1895, the story follows our main character to New York City to famed Blenheim Castle in Great Britain.

Consuelo agrees to an arranged marriage for the good of her family (or more correctly at the insistence of her mother). However, Consuelo will eventually consider her own good as well as the good (and rights) of women in general.

Parts of this story were wonderful – the emotional struggles of Consuelo at first, and then her struggle on behalf of others. Her goals are easy to understand and follow. Also, her links to some big names of the era add an additional, unexpected level of interest.

Some characters seemed a bit flat. The Duke (her husband) never manages to have a sympathetic moment in a span of years, for example. His life seems dedicated to social climbing. In other cases, Winston Churchill for example, are quite out of character here (Ms. Harper’s Churchill is not the man presented in his biography).

However, the backdrop always seemed completely perfect. This is largely a look at ‘high society’ and gives a wonderful look at the structure of lives, as well as the places the rich and famous live! I loved descriptions of balls, ballrooms, and the clothing and manners of the times. Plans for guests, decorations, the operations of a massive household, all find their way into this story. Ms. Harper gives us a wonderful and imaginative peek into the world of high society.

The pace is never fast, but it is always interesting.

Consuelo’s story is beautifully written and will really enthrall those who are interested in the time period, from turn-of-the century to a bit Into the second World War.

Amid the turbulence of World War II, a young German woman finds a precarious haven closer to the source of danger than she ever imagined—one that will propel her through the extremes of privilege and terror under Hitler’s dictatorship . . .

In early 1943, Magda Ritter’s parents send her to relatives in Bavaria, hoping to keep her safe from the Allied bombs strafing Berlin. Young German women are expected to do their duty—working for the Reich or marrying to produce strong, healthy children. After an interview with the civil service, Magda is assigned to the Berghof, Hitler’s mountain retreat. Only after weeks of training does she learn her assignment: she will be one of several young women tasting the Führer’s food, offering herself in sacrifice to keep him from being poisoned.

Perched high in the Bavarian Alps, the Berghof seems worlds away from the realities of battle. Though terrified at first, Magda gradually becomes used to her dangerous occupation—though she knows better than to voice her misgivings about the war. But her love for a conspirator within the SS, and her growing awareness of the Reich’s atrocities, draw Magda into a plot that will test her wits and loyalty in a quest for safety, freedom, and ultimately, vengeance.

What a read!!

A friend recommended this book and at first I wasn’t sure this would be my kind of book. To be honest, it’s not. But that’s not a bad thing. Really. The Taster is a unique book. Who killed Hitler? This book answers that question but brings up many more.

Magda is an interesting character. She’s put into service working for Hitler as his taster – the person who makes sure his food isn’t poisoned. Every time she tastes, she takes her life in her hands. Crazy, isn’t it? She’s a strong woman, but crumbles from time to time, which made her relatable. I’ve done some research on the situation in Germany and during the Holocaust, but I’d never really put that information into personal terms. With Magda, I felt like I was there. My heart broke for her and I cheered, too.

It was interesting to see the more tender side of Hitler, although I still think he’s a monster. Eva Braun is portrayed in a kinder light, too. I saw them as people, not just names in the history book.  I can’t imagine what these people went through and while this book paints a picture of it, I bet it was much, much worse.

I read this book in a little more than a day. It’s the kind of book that can’t be put down. The writing flows well, plus the scenes are both beautiful and scary. I needed to know what would happen next.

If you’re looking for something historical that’s a page-turner kind of fiction, then this might be just what you’re wanting.

Set amidst 2004’s polarizing election fears–immigrants and job takeovers, terrorists in waiting, the homosexual and outsider agendas–Shirtless Men Drink Free makes vivid the human soul’s struggle in a world bedeviled by desire and the fears that leave us all asking–Why?

Shirtless Men Drink Free is a beautifully-written story, a tale with depth that happens to also be edgy. The setting is Georgia of the near past, in a world of politics and medicine. Only vividly-drawn characters such as Dwaine Rieves has written could do justice to this novel. The time and place come alive under the skilled hand of this writer.

Momentum picks up at an even pace as readers follow a politician and his family on their journey through an election. These characters are complex. They are endearing, but some of them prove to be all too human. Mistakes are made, and this only adds layers to their personalities and the story itself. Readers are likely to take sides, while feeling regret over the decisions that certain characters make due to their relationship with others whom we can really root for. Somebody is going to have to lose. Who will it be, and at what price? The writer has done well in inspiring compassion.

The fascinating story moves right along to an unforeseen ending, where the pace is quick, but not rushed. The emotional conclusion will have readers thinking about important values while immersing them in an unforgettable story. After the last page is turned, readers are likely to not only remember the events between these pages but also the well-developed characters and have food for thought.

Those who enjoy a modern story with a touch of mystery, just a dab of the paranormal, and complicated characters, set amongst political complications, will probably like this book.

On a snowy Minnesota winter, Tara is heading home after closing her second-hand bookstore. She had a lot on her mind like the fact that her business is probably not going to stay open and her love life is none existent. To make things worse, she accidentally hits a dog. Unbeknownst to her the dog is actually a wolf shifter, Max. He was running from his pack because the alpha he was backing was defeated by the current alpha. The new alpha is after Max’s blood.

Max had only meant to stay a few days with Tara and regain his strength before leaving. He knew if he stayed too long, it would bring danger to her. A bond was quickly forming between them and he is finding it harder and harder to leave.

I absolutely love the way the romance, along with the trust, is slowly built between them. Each of them has a reason to distrust the opposite sex–Tara was constantly being rejected by men and Max was thought of as a freak since he was half arctic wolf and half timber wolf. I really enjoyed Max’s suffering when Tara thought he was a dog. She was talking about neutering, shots, and made him do his business on a leash. You can guess how embarrassed Max was. It made me laugh at all the comments he was sending her and she had no idea. The way Tara opened up to Cotton (Max) expands upon her character, instead of using flashbacks, which was nice. I also enjoyed how Max was portrayed; he is the big, protective, strong, man within, but he is sweet, caring and supported her dream of opening a library on pack lands. The bond between them becomes stronger and stronger every day and with every situation, Although the plot has been used over and over again, the author makes it different by concentrating on the building trust and love between the main characters.

One of the things that I did not like was the long description of where Max and his pack live. I thought some of it could have been cut and not lose anything in the process. I also thought the fight scene between the current alpha was almost an afterthought.

In all, this is a great story about love, forgiveness, and strength. It shows how powerful acceptance is, and how love can overcome anything. The characters are so well developed they feel like a part of my family. I would recommend this to any of my friends and family.

The characters, no matter what world they live on, are all fully-dimensional, with attitude and wit to spare. The differences between the worlds are clear to see and easy to understand. Being so different, and well-written, I found I never got confused about the characteristics of one race vs. another.

The story jumps back and forth between the two women and their lives over several years. It is obvious that a great deal of research has gone into the history of Nairobi. Unfortunately, there were times when it felt too much like info-dump and, to me, did not add that much to the story itself. In fact the sections of non-fiction, I found myself skimming to get back to the fictional plot. Another issue was the POV switched so often between the characters (often only lasting a couple of pages) that it was hard connecting with them.

On the other hand, the storyline itself – the danger that Somadina feels her sister is in and her telepathic search for someone to help her find her sister– is intriguing. Telepathy is one of the things I really enjoy reading about, and I found it interesting how both Somadina and Lola closed themselves off from it early – only to have the interest reigniting about the same time. I also enjoyed the parallel situations they find themselves in.

The last half of the book was definitely worth making it through the first half. It was exciting to see how the telepaths worked together to defuse the situation. I really enjoyed it. I would be interested in reading more books involving the One.
