Love might be waiting in enemy territory…

Clare Chronicles, Book 2

When Dallas O’Grady’s attention is hooked by a sexy rear end bent over a flat tire, he naturally pulls over to help. Then he gets a look at her face and realizes she’s one of those Drummonds.

Like online viagra store , this is usually offered only with doctor’s prescription. levitra is usually a group of medicines acknowledged to possess a delaying task to enzymes referred to as as phosphodiesterases. The Drummonds and the O’Gradys might both live in the town of Clare, but they’ve never played nice, not since a generations-old feud started over a cache of stolen gold nuggets.

Laura Drummond has fought long and hard to grip independence by the throat and avoid her mother’s bulldozing attempts to control her life. She’s always admired Dallas from afar, and she’s pleased to discover that up close, he’s gorgeous, sexy, and nothing like the monster her family has painted.

When the road home is blocked, she’s forced to accept his offer of a bed for the night. One thing leads to another, and soon burning hot-desire melts into thoughts of forging a permanent relationship—damn their families’ disapproval.

But the feud isn’t the only thing conspiring to keep the lovers apart. And the clock is ticking…

When Laura Drummond gets a flat tire on her way to her family’s home, she is glad for the delay, she has fought long and heard to escape the life her family wants her to live and she really doesn’t want to give up her hard won independence. When Dallas O’Grady come to her rescue by the side of the road, she feels an instant attraction to him, and decides she wants to get to know him better. Dallas thinks he has a chance with the lovely woman stranded with a flat tire, until she turns and he realizes she is one of the Drummonds, the family his family has been feuding with for generations. When they discover that the attraction runs both ways, they agree to wait out the clearing of the only road to town at Dallas’ place, and enjoy each other’s company. As these two grow closer, they slowly begin to care about the budding relationship, in spite of what reactions they may get from others. Can Dallas and Laura build something that will withstand the family feud? Is Laura ready to brave the wrath of her family to stay in Dallas’ life? Can their love ever heal the breach between two families after such a long time?

The Clare Chronicles continue with Shelley Munro’s Enemy Lovers. I do like this world, with the small town feeling of Clare and surroundings. The characters here have an instant attraction, and I enjoyed watching as they made the decision to act on that attraction, despite the age old feud. There were few supporting characters, and they only appeared briefly, but they were as well defined and Dallas and Laura. I look forward to more in the world Ms. Munro has so enticingly built.

Laura Drummond is smart, strong willed and determined not to follow the life plan that her mother wants for her. When she is delayed on the way home, first by a flat tire, then by a blocked road, she is relieved by the brief reprieve. When Dallas O’Grady stops to help with her tire, she feels a tingle of attraction, and when he offers shelter until the road opens, she is more than happy to take him up on his offer. I like Laura, with her determination to make her own way in the world, and enjoyed watching as she learned to care for Dallas, knowing their road might be a rocky one.

Dallas O’Grady is smart, strong and very sexy. He realizes right away that Laura is special, but he also knows that both families could cause trouble with their possible relationship. As things heat up between them, both want to take the next step, and I liked Dallas’ idea of having Laura sign a statement that she was a voluntary participant in everything they did. I liked that Dallas, while aware of the repercussions that could follow, was still willing to take the relationship as far as Laura was willing to go.

There are some more that hot spots in this, and some places where family interference was brutal, at least from Laura’s family. But there is strength and passion between the two main characters that can’t be controlled or denied, and they do have a happy ever after here. I liked the pacing of this one, and look forward to meeting more of the residents of Clare in the future. This is another romantic comedy from Shelley Munro, and I recommend it for those who like their family feuds hot and steamy.

Fagan has a simple mission: escort the haughty Lady Grace back to England. But nothing is ever easy. The sharp-tongued woman needles him at every turn. But when a menacing threat follows them on their journey, Fagan’s grudging tolerance for Grace turns to respect…and into a perilous attraction that could seal their fate.

Kilts and Daggers sizzles, simmers, and boils over with fighting, treachery, clan loyalty, and love. Yet, a subtle undercurrent of humor ripples through much of the story.

Victoria Roberts, once again, gives the reader a vicarious adventure with rowdy, rugged Highlanders and this time she ups-the-ante with four strong-minded English sisters that disrupt Sutherland Castle to the limit.

The ex-spy for the Crown, Ravenna Walsingham married Ruairi Sutherland, head of the clan. Her sisters, nine-year-old Kat and fifteen-year-old Elizabeth have come to live at Sutherland Castle. Kat has twelve-year-old Torquil running for cover and Elizabeth is eyeing the much-older neighbor, Lord Ian Munro, who is horrified at the very thought of an English girl.

Then there’s nineteen-year-old Lady Grace Walsingham, with her sharp tongue and prim English lady ways, who’s just there for her sister’s wedding and to be sure her two younger sister are well settled and happy before she returns to England to marry her betrothed, Lord Daniel Casterbrook.

Her new brother-in-law Ruairi’s Captain of the Guard, Fagan, a kinsman, sets Grace in a temper with his totally inappropriate attitude toward her. Her uppity ways sets him to calling her “Princess Grace” as he undermines her disdain for the “barbarian Highlanders.” Their verbal warring, as sexual tension builds, creates can’t-put-it-down reading. Ah, there’s a toe-curling kiss that both declare is not going to happen again. Oh, but it does. What a spellbinding adventure the reader gets to share as Fagan and men of his Guard set out to deliver Grace back to England and to her betrothed.

The story takes a couple of twists as they travel that are shocking and adrenaline-pumping, one of them totally unexpected.

With smooth, lyrical prose, Victoria Roberts creates a delightful, delicious love story that is blended with political intrigue, savagery, the beauty of Scotland, and diverse customs of the English and Scottish people. CAPTIVATING READING!

The Heckmasters, Book 1

Certain that an ad for a job in a small New Mexico Territory town is the answer to her prayers, Nebraska schoolteacher Rhia Duke packs her sister into a rickety wagon and heads west.

Except when they reach the near-deserted town, she learns the truth. There is no job, no future, and no welcome in the bleak blue eyes of the handsome sheriff.

The minute Rhia’s runaway team thunders into town, Wystan Heckmaster feels the change in the air. One of three sons of a demon who dared love a human, he keeps watch over a Pit guarded by seven seals, and slays any Hellbound demon that attempts to free the master imprisoned within.

With a gut full of regret and a forgotten town filled with reformed demons, Wystan is certain of one thing: he can’t be the man Rhia needs. But when the truth behind Rhia’s flight from Nebraska comes to light, Wystan must open his soul—and pray there’s enough love between them to overcome the darkness rising from the Pit.

A search for safe shelter has brought them to a town filled with otherworldly creatures.

Rhia Duke arrived in an almost non-existent town looking to apply for the schoolteacher’s position that was advertised.

Upon arriving with her younger sister, Sylvia, and friend, Beryl who is sick, Rhia finds out there is no job for her there. But due to the weakened state of her friend she, along with her small entourage, is given permission to stay in town. During that time she uncovers a legacy about demons, second chances, love and death.

Wystan the eldest of the three brothers is absolutely against the new arrivals staying. However, in time he falls in love with Rhia. The romance and passion that is between them is a wonder. Their relationship developed. By the end I could see their love for each other and their strength. Except, will they have a Happily Ever After?

The Heckmasters intrigued me from the start and it was well worth the time fantasizing about what their story is.

I expected demons to star in this but not the other creatures. But it was pleasant and nice. I really wanted to know more about these creatures. Not a full biography but, enough to understand them.

There are three Heckmasters in this story. The eldest Wystan, then Eban, last but not least, is Tell. There was one other female Heckmaster, Sabrina. But what happened to her will be explained in this book.

Wystan, as the eldest, wants to save the town. There are questions that still remain. I think these answers will come with Eban and Tell’s stories. I was hooked with Wystan’s story and how it ended. So, I am very much going to read the other books.

I believe The Heckmasters series is going to be a hit with paranormal loving readers.

Safari Stew is told from multiple perspectives, each chapter focusing on a specific character, and the name of the character appears in italics at the start of each chapter. The group meets a film crew for a cooking show, also headed to South Africa, and this results in an even larger cast of characters. Over half of the chapters are told from Doll’s point of view. The others are from the point of view of three other women, one a friend of Doll’s and two from the film crew.

The characters are fairly flat and stereotypical. The murderer was easy to spot and that character was painted with no positive aspects. There are two minor characters who were more atypical and hence more interesting, namely Howard, the oldest of Doll’s friends, and Achi, the South African policemen. They added welcome spice to the story.

The plot had several different storylines, in addition to the murder itself. The pacing seemed a bit slow in places and some aspects were just dropped. But overall, it was interesting to see how the murderer was discovered and how the murderer ended up being tricked and deceived.

I learned a number of things about South Africa, some geographic and some cultural, and the time spent at the Haartsveld Game Preserve was very interesting. Readers who enjoy cozy mysteries set in foreign places are sure to enjoy following Doll and her fellow travelers on this adventure.

Love and Miss Communication is a story about a woman in her thirties struggling to find love through an internet dating site. What would make me come back and read this book again and again was this struggle which is both realistic and timely.

Miss Friedland did a wonderful job of writing a story which highlighted a modern woman’s struggle to not only be successful in her professional life but her personal one as well.  I loved the simplicity of this story and would recommend it.

When Nick invites her to Alaska, Samantha decides to find out, never guessing the depths she’ll discover in him or the tangle of murder, kidnapping, and danger about to engulf them both…

Against the Sky is an absolute classic suspenseful romance; fans of the genre will find themselves captured by the events as much as by the personalities of the leading characters.

The intrigue begins before we’ve even met our leading characters.   Nick and Samantha are from different worlds, one rough and tumble, one ‘ day at the spa,’ thank you. Nick impresses from the first. He’s obviously a sympathetic, caring person. Samantha is quicker–quicker to decide, quicker to anger, yet, quicker to laugh too. She’s a very savvy professional, but also pretty quick to toss the heels and put on something comfortable. Its the little moments that make her character…while Nick is simply, incredibly manly and protective. Their clashes never fail to entertain. Quick-witted conversation is fast, believable and engaging and does not manage to hide their mutual attraction. The chemistry is real! Former cop Nick is strikingly handsome, while Samantha is lovely. One thing leads to another and…romance readers really must read! No giving the game away here, although I will say that Ms. Martin does not disappoint with the bedrooms scenes.

While Nick and Samantha’s romance might charge along as one might expect, events will keep readers guessing throughout. That unpredictable quality makes this a page-turner. While we know, from the first, about Nick’s young friend’s suspicions, it’s a while before it’s investigated.

Alaska provides a lovely backdrop for this tale, too; it’s a bit stereotypically the wilder world; fun, mysterious but somehow, still home. The limited point of view works, but irritatingly changed a bit too much for reader comfort. On the other hand, I liked the author’s attention to some details; this really is fun to read for more than one reason.

In Against the Sky Kat Martin has turned out of the recent bests in this popular genre.

Too bad he finds more of a kindred spirit in Nora, the beautiful American next door. She, too, has faced the rigors of war and survived. Now the ex-soldier will have one more battle to fight–this time for love.

A Hope Remembered is a beautiful love story and beautifully written. Emotions reach out from the pages and surround the reader. The author Stacy Henrie sweeps the reader into the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual growth and development of Nora Lewis and Colin Ashby so expertly one feels like a part of the daily goings on in their lives.

Nora, still grieving the loss of her fiancé Tom in World War One as well as the death of her parents, leaves her Iowa farm and moves to the Lake District in England to claim her inheritance from Henry Lewis, a relative she never met or doesn’t remember meeting. There she meets distant relatives and villagers who make her feel like she belongs.

Colin is kind to her and helps her get acquainted with her new home. How the friendship evolves keeps the reader turning pages. Stacy Henrie, the author, shepherds the reader along as Nora learns a startling family secret, learns about sheep farming, shocks the locals with her independent American woman ways, moves through the stages of grief, and finally realizes she wants to love and be loved again.

The secondary characters, so important to the story, augment the growth of Colin and Nora as the two of them deal with mounting conflicts. Regardless of the difficulties, love creeps in and refuses to leave. As Nora and Colin struggle to find their own place in the scheme of things in post-war England, their deep faith in God, their giving and forgiving love make poignant reading. As their love reaches out to encompass and help others, it lifts the story to yet and even higher level of enjoyment for the reader.

A Hope Remembered is a compelling story, a keeper to be enjoyed more than once.

Sultry Southern Nights is an historical, highly erotic and romantic story set in 1858-1860 Charleston, South Carolina and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is a noir tale in which the heroes struggle to conquer their inner demons and overcome their enemies. Marrying an heiress allows him to save his plantation and position in 1858 Charleston society. But at what cost? Enraged that Rafe cannot quell is obsession with Beth, Amanda acquires forged papers proving Beth to be an octoroon, arranges Beth’s kidnapping, and lends her to Geoffrey Mandeville as his love slave. Rafe believes Beth is dead. Only months later does he learn the depths of Amanda’s perfidy when she brings Beth into their household as her personal slave. Beth convinces Rafe of her innocence and that he will find proof of her heritage in the Ashley family Bible, now in the possession of her former mammy in Philadelphia. Will Rafe be able to find the Bible and prove that Beth has no black blood that would condemn her as a slave? Will Beth be able to escape Geoffrey and his heavily-guarded house? New Year’s Eve 1858 Beth Ashley’s life takes a turn in to a life she couldn’t have imagined. How will she prove her heritage to show she’s not a slave? Will she be able to recover emotional from the vile treatment she has endured?

The author has crafted a skillful story that is highly entertaining. The characters in this novel are seemly real. I enjoyed the love and determination that Rafe LaRue had towards Beth, though he made the horrid decision to marry Amanda Hamilton to increase his financial status not knowing the calamitous domino effect it would cause. The author keeps it coming. When I thought all was well and life was good for Beth and Rafe another unpredictable domino would fall.

The writing is enjoyable and I even learned a lot of new words while reading. The book is inundated with vocabulary that caused me to keep a dictionary handy. The plot is engaging and many twist to move the story along. Amanda Hamilton is a egotistical minded woman with sexual desires that cause her to seek consolation in various men. It’s okay for her to find pleasure but she took things to a completely different level to stop her husband from seeing the woman he loved. Awesome job on creating such a villain. Amanda was an unlikeable character and her sole purpose was thinking of herself and what pleased her; how others felt did not matter.

I like the surprise at the end. The conclusion that Beth came to was inspiring to see that she grew from her harsh treatment as a slave and wanted to do something she felt in her heart was a way to help other that have been treat badly.

This is a recommended book that tells a tale of jealously, shame, deceit, remorse and best of all, a man that is determined to be with the woman he loves. How can you pass up a book that includes all this?

And the bathrooms at their campsite are just…wow. Then there’s the secret war being waged by the wizards of the council and a mysterious group of creatures that look a whole lot like bigfoots (bigfeet?). Whatever they are, they seem to know something about Daisy that she doesn’t, and they aren’t telling. Now she’s got to save an entire race of mythical—scratch that, very real but kind of smelly—creatures from the clutches of the deranged (and equally smelly) leader of the council, Caroline. If she plays her cards right, Janie might be able to stay alive…and she might even get to spend what’s left of spring break getting to know the bass player for Shizknit a little better…

In this third book in the Necro Files series, we find Daisy out camping with her friend from college. Hanging out in the woods, she meets an ensemble of pot heads, band members and a herd of bigfoots. Dark dealings are at hand when she discovers a strange disk shaped object and witnesses a battle in a field. After that, all signs of a normal camping trip/ concert venue are pretty much toast. What do you do when you witness a hidden species and have to communicate by thought? Think carefully and dodge flying spells from renegade Council members who are up to no good.

Unlike the first two books, I was not pulled into the story right away. The historical beginning was a little interesting but strange, given the tone of the first two books. Also, the camping trip threw me and I struggled with getting into where the book was going. From the history I got where the bigfoot thing was going and once they appeared and the action got moving it was fine. Daisy rocked it and so did Nathan, the hunky spell binding hero. The romantic sparks between the band member and Daisy were lukewarm.

One of the funnier things were the names of the bigfoots and how they communicated by thought. Slips in Shit and Deer Humper. I think I snorted jello through my nose during my break at work when I read that the first time. Good one. It stands to reason the bigfoots would communicate differently than we would and how that effects a human if they touched one. Very good.

Overall I enjoyed the story after I got past the first bit and into the action. A great series, this is one I would recommend to anyone who enjoys the Southern Vampire series from Charlaine Harris, The Hollows series by Kim Harrison or even the Anita Blake books. Urban fantasy meets a funeral home with some unusual goings on, these books are great and have interesting story lines.

It did take me a bit to get into the novel because of all the people who were introduced right at the beginning. Keeping them straight was a bit of a challenge, especially when I wasn’t sure just which of them would prove to be truly important.

I really liked Ellie March, and I enjoyed learning more about her background and history. I would have liked even more, as it really made her come alive. And Kevin is also a very likeable character. We learn a bit about him, but again, I would have liked more details to make him seem more three dimensional. I’m hoping since this is the first in the series that the succeeding novels will allow both of these fine characters to develop further.

The plot is a good one, and it took me awhile to figure out who the murderer was. I’d pegged someone else at first, so I was intrigued by the way the story unfolded. There was a very exciting scene taking place on the ice of Sorrow Lake and I held my breath through it. I would have liked a few more scenes like that which show rather than tell. Much of a police procedural involves meetings and reports, which is accurate I’m sure, but that can slow the pacing.

Sorrow Lake has done a great job as the first book in a new series. I am sure mystery fans will enjoy it and I look forward to the further adventures of Ellie and Kevin.
