Carmella Sannarelli is a people pleaser. She can’t say no to anyone, even when it means putting off her own personal goals in the process. So, when her best friend, Sadie Miller, calls with the announcement that she’s broken up with one fiancé and eloping with another in St. Croix, Carmella can’t stop herself from dropping everything and accepting the invitation to stand as maid of honor.

Jilted fiancé Ryan Wutkowski has been the third member of the Carmella-Sadie trio for nine years. He fully supports Sadie’s new engagement and upcoming nuptials, knowing it’s the right decision and best for both of them. But when he boards a plane to San Juan for a business conference, Carmella is the last person he expects to find occupying the seat next to his.

Two days in San Juan, then a week in St. Croix–Carmella knows her two best friends are hiding something. But can she figure out what went wrong between them as she battles her own tingly, off-kilter feelings toward Ryan, while dodging advances from a womanizing best man, and confirming for herself that Sadie did make the right decision? When Ryan unexpectedly shows up at the rehearsal dinner and gets himself invited to the wedding, will Carmella finally uncover the secret he’s held since the day they first met?

Carmella doesn’t know her friends as well as she thought.

It was very easy for me to like Carmella. While she is certainly smart and clearly a loyal friend, I also admire Carmella’s quiet strength. She isn’t easily swayed by people and events around her. She’s clear headed enough to wait out the chaos and see to the heart of the matter. When she finds out that Sadie and Ryan have broken up, and Sadie is now marrying someone else, Carmella is understandably worried. However, rather than rushing to take sides by doing or saying something rash, she patiently listens to both sides of the story and tries to be as supportive as she can to both of her friends. Unfortunately, the truth behind Sadie and Ryan’s breakup might be more than Carmella can handle.

Carmella hasn’t had a lot of romance in her life. However, Carmella doesn’t obsess over this. Instead, she seems to be content to wait until she meets the right person. When Ryan and Carmella run into each other in San Juan, the sparks of attraction between them are subtle, but clearly there. Carmella is understandably confused by her feelings, and Ryan’s interest in her. After all, she’s known Ryan for years, and he and Sadie were together for most of that time. Carmella can’t deny her changing feelings for Ryan, but she doesn’t want to lose either of her best friends. On top of all that, Carmella is certain that her friends are hiding something from her. The secret they’ve kept might just cost them Carmella’s friendship. I eagerly anticipated discovering how such an unusual situation would be resolved.

I must say that Sadie and Ryan’s relationship didn’t make much sense to me. While it is clear that they care for each other, their feelings are not remotely romantic, or haven’t been for a long time. I have a hard time understanding why they would stay together for so long when neither of them was happy in their relationship. When I learned about how they started dating, their relationship made even less sense and was a little hard to swallow. Despite this issue, I really enjoyed how the story ended. I can’t say much without spoiling the story, but I will say that Carmella, Ryan, and Sadie all find their way to happy and very satisfying endings.

I really enjoyed reading Better Than Chocolate. I recommend it to anyone looking for a sweet romance that is fun and refreshing.

Chinese-American assistant professor Eileen Chen specializes in folk religion at her San Francisco college. Though her grandmother made her living as a shamaness, Eileen publicly dismisses witchcraft as mere superstition. Yet privately, the subject intrigues her.

When a research project takes her to the Canary Islands—long rumored to be home to real witches—Eileen is struck by the lush beauty of Tenerife and its blend of Spanish and Moroccan culture. A stranger invites her to a local market where women sell amulets, charms, and love spells. Gradually Eileen immerses herself in her exotic surroundings, finding romance with a handsome young furniture maker. But as she learns more about the lives of these self-proclaimed witches, Eileen must choose how much trust to place in this new and seductive world, where love, greed, and vengeance can be as powerful, or as destructive, as any magic.

Eileen Chen is a Chinese American woman who specializes in folk religion. She teaches at a local college, but when the opportunity presents itself to do research on the nature of witchcraft and shamanism, she leaves her life behind and travels to the Canary Islands.

Filled with a rich family history, Eileen has the gift of sight, passed down from her grandmother who made her living as a shaman. Written eloquently, Ms. Yip paints a fairytale picture of a land rich with magic and mystery as Chen finds herself embroiled in a mystery. Who is the enigmatic man who seems to have his designs set on her? Who are the witches that turn up in strange places with spells on their lips? What is this Witch’s Market? Sometimes the past doesn’t want to stay buried and as Eileen will learn, there are ruthless forces in place concerned with doing just that.

This was an eloquently told tale, but at times the way Eileen and the other characters spoke seemed too stylized for real life. It fit with the fairy tale quality of the book, but I found myself getting irritated by the unreal speech or laughter. It reminded me of some of the dubbed martial arts movies that are so beautiful with the lush costumes but the speakers matched to the characters don’t do the story justice.

Eileen was an interesting person. A professor researching folk religion who just happens to be a witch. As she learns more about the dual nature of shamanistic Chinese magic and Western witchcraft, she grows as a woman and in her powers of observation and sight.

Overall, I enjoyed this book but wished the author had done more with dialog and making it as real as some of the inner lives of the characters they represented. If you enjoyed books about Chinese history or even books about witchcraft, you may find this book intriguing. I did. The blend of Eastern and Western culture was one of its strongest points, combined with the lyrical quality to Yip’s words.

One of the things I appreciate the most about Ms. Todd’s writing style is how much detail she packs into her books, and this one was no exception to that rule. From the cut of the characters’ clothing to the types of tools they used in their daily lives, nothing was too ordinary to be included in this mystery. Because of this I could perfectly imagine every scene playing out in my mind. The author’s descriptions were simply that vivid and well done!

The cast of characters was so large that I sometimes had trouble keeping track of who everyone was and where they came from. This was especially noticeable when it came to the characters that were being introduced for the first time in this story. There were simply so many new faces that I had a hard time keeping all of them straight. It would have been really helpful to have some sort of master list of who everyone was so that I could refresh my memory from time to time.

With that being said, the storyline itself was captivating. I read this tale much faster than I normally would have because I was so interested in seeing if Claudia was piecing together the clues the same way I was and if either one of us would figure all of them out before her time ran out. There were so many different factors to consider that I could have spent much more time than I did coming up with all of my possible interpretations of what happened to the little girl whose death Claudia was trying to unravel. The entire mystery was really well done.

This book is part of a series, but it can be read on its own or out of order.

I’d recommend Scorpion Rising to anyone who is in the mood for a challenge.

Biweekly marriage proposals from men who can’t see beyond her (admittedly breathtaking) looks are starting to get on Lady Clara Fairfax’s nerves. Desperate to be something more than ornamental, she escapes to her favorite charity. When a child is in trouble, she turns to tall, dark, and annoying barrister Oliver Radford.

Though he’s unexpectedly found himself in line to inherit a dukedom, Radford’s never been part of fashionable society, and the blonde beauty, though not entirely bereft of brains, isn’t part of his plans. But Clara overwhelms even his infallible logic, and when wedlock looms, all he can do is try not to lose his head over her.

It’s an inconvenient marriage by ordinary standards, but these two are far from ordinary. Can the ton’s most adored heiress and London’s most difficult bachelor fall victim to their own unruly desires?

All these things can be done through it. female viagra samples is a cheap product which almost every person could afford to buy. Color me surprised by a hero and heroine who are not the normal portrayals typically found in historical romance books. In fact the premise starts off like ones I’ve read before but it quickly becomes clear that Ms. Chase has created something unique and entertaining.

Oliver most especially, but Clara too, has the ability to use a technique far more effective than in any other book I’ve read before. The use of words. Lots and lots of words – dialogue that cuts, speech that is erudite and eloquent in its intelligence, discussions on pointed and specific observations that are spelled out with a clarity that a Vulcan would envy and adore. A debate between Oliver Radford and Mr. Spock would probably be a draw if not for one element, Clara. She’s Oliver’s Achilles heel, and what a delightful one she turned out to be.

Both the hero and heroine are outside the box when it comes to viewpoints; how they navigate the beau monde, how they choose who to associate with, and their roles in society. My favorite part is when the hero goes on trial because he wants to marry Clara. I do not believe I have ever seen that scenario played out before and I found it clever and quite entertaining.

The very thing that makes this novel so compelling and unique, the use of words, also has the misfortunate tendency to slow down the pace of the story. Oliver’s point of view is expounded upon so thoroughly that I surely thought I’d go mad. Clara was a tad better because she used her words to spar with and annoy Oliver, so I thought that rather grand. But, if the author’s intent was to convey to a reader just how annoying and irritating Oliver’s unique brand of conversation was, then she succeeded. A note of humor about this complaint is that it’s shared not only by me but by various characters in the story, including the hero’s best friend, Westcott. Even the King had a few words, so it’s not my imagination. My only question is, did the author have to convince me so thoroughly?

Oliver’s seduction of Clara was a thing of beauty. It was sensual and well written and the more adventurous scenes afterwards were not only quite spicy but another platform for the use of more words. At least in this, pink cheeks and enthusiastic exploration helped to make them fun to read.

There was a hint of drama due to the fact that people seem to want to kill Radford. He’s become one villain’s obsession to the exclusion of all else. The villain’s demise was rather unusual and contrary and a means only a lawyer could pull off. I’ve never seen that technique used before either, so Ms. Chase has to be given credit for high creativity.

I have no idea if the historical aspects of this story are accurate or not; I’m more concerned about whether or not the plot works, it does, whether or not I liked meeting the main characters, I did, and if I enjoyed how the author wrapped up the story, I totally did. It was complete, satisfying and a combination of humorous, bittersweet and romantic. As long as readers don’t mind a wordsmith barrister for a hero, then Dukes Prefer Blondes should definitely be given a try. It has its moments of sheer creative genius and plot twists that make reading the novel worth the time.

THEY WERE MARKED FOR DEATH. The last words Nick Walton hears from his fiancée, Logan Somervile, are in a terrified mobile phone call from her. She has just driven into the underground car park beneath the block of flats where they live in Brighton. Then she screams and the phone goes dead. The police are on the scene within minutes, but Logan has vanished, leaving behind her neatly parked car and telephone.

That same afternoon, workmen digging up an old asphalt pat in a park in another part of the city, unearth the remains of a young woman in her early twenties, who has been dead for 30 years.

At first, to Roy Grace and his team, these two events seem totally unconnected. But then another young woman in Brighton goes missing and another body from the past surfaces. Meanwhile, an eminent London psychiatrist meets with a man who claims to know a piece of information about Logan. Later Roy Grace makes the chilling realization that this one thing is the key to both the past and the present . . . Brighton has its first serial killer in over eighty years.

Logan Somerville has gone missing, and other women are vanishing as well. Workmen have discover skeletal remains of a young woman that has probably been dead for 30 years. The past and the future of these women all have something in common. Will Detective Superintendent Roy Grace and his Major Crime Team be able to save Logan and any future women from this twisted killer?

From the first chapter the suspense started and I was drawn in. Leading character Roy Grace is in the process of moving, preparing a eulogy for the death of a fellow officer, someone he once loved that went missing may have been spotted and now women are being kidnapped, and skeletal remains have been discovered. Roy has a lot on his plate. He is a hard worker, a lover of his family and teammates and a man that is dedicated to saving the women of Brighton. Roy is a strong character, and I like that he is written in human likeness showing him dealing with life’s conflicts.

The author goes in great detail to display the case from the fear and cries of the kidnapped victim, the killer with his reason and ways of tracking his next project and finally Roy’s detective skills in tracking down this killer. I love the author’s writing style. He tells details and builds a visual but doesn’t over do it. The suspense is on target, and the plot is so amazingly well thought out and planned all the way to the very end. The main character is well defined in his personal life and his work life. There are an over whelming number of character names mentioned but the author didn’t try to go in to unnecessary details about them.

I am a reader that doesn’t typically like to read lengthy novels. However I found each page a pleasure to read.  Each was filled with such suspense and I was so wrapped up in how the story would play out, the length of the novel didn’t even phase me. This is a pleasurable read and as a reader this book left me saying ‘I am so glad I picked this book’. The novel revealed the reason behind the kidnapping and killing and also ended with surprise suspense meaning I will be reading the next book in the Roy Grace series.

This book is highly recommended for those that enjoy a well researched suspenseful novel that is sure to give its reader a thrilling heart pounding climax.

He has no time for the woman who breaks into his compound claiming to be his Incendiary, but his beast insists he make the time—for his mate.

In one searing, soul-consuming breath, everything Cymbeline was taught to believe is ripped away. Yet the mystery of who’s been sending her orders remains…and finding the answer could lead to all-out war.

Cymbeline is the Alphar’s Incendiary, whose existence is only known to a handful of people. She’s been trained since birth to be the perfect weapon or the perfect assassin. However, when her most recent assignment turns out to be an innocent she decides it’s time to ‘talk’ to the Alphar. Some serious surprises await them both.

When the new Alphar Kerrick first meets the woman claiming to be the Incendiary, he realizes he found his mate. And from there starts a journey, a journey where an Alphar learns to trust his mate and where an assassin learns how to be both herself, a mate, and an assassin.

That was the main plot. The secondary plot is heady… a war between two species. And a crazed ancient who will do anything to get what she wants. The secondary plot is all about the Alphar and his responsibility to his people.

Cymbeline and Kerrick…their relationship was rocky from the start.  Their passion was bright hot sizzling. They had to learn each other and find their place in each other’s lives. For anyone who has read about mates in the paranormal world know that they are possessive and in this case, it’s the same. For me it showed me the realistic side of this romance. You work hard for what you want.

However, I loved every bit of reading time I spent on this and I’m looking forward to the next book. Miss Grenelle has given the readers a hint in this book about whose story would be written and whose story we would be reading about. When does proper behavior deserve a deliciously improper reward?

The scandalously unmarried Lady Margaret Sawford is looking for adventure—and is always up for a challenge. Her curiosity is aroused by a dangerous-looking stranger with an eye patch, an ideal companion for the life she longs for, no matter what Society might say. So when the piratical gentleman turns out to be a duke—and just as boringly proper as any other nobleman—she can’t help but incite him to walk on the wild side.

Well-heeled, well-mannered, and well beyond any interest in society’s expectations, the Duke of Lasham is tired of being perfect. Margaret’s lush beauty and gently laughing eyes are an irresistible temptation to embrace the imperfect—and her. But if a little misbehavior is appealing, unleashing his wild side is completely seductive—as long as the lovely Margaret is the object of his passion.

If a reader is looking to be charmed and entertained, look no further than One-Eyed Dukes Are Wild because it’s all that and more. Ms. Frampton writes the Dukes Behaving Badly series and I’m happy to say this is a great standalone book. I haven’t read any of the other stories and although I didn’t need to in order to enjoy this novel, it definitely has me interested in the others especially if they are as fun as this one.

Margaret is a not only an author, but a card shark. The heroine is determined to not marry at all especially after what happened with the last prospective husband her parents wanted her to marry. Now, she’s alone with no family to support her and she’s fine with that. However her independence is like the perfect carrot for a man who likes a challenge or wants a relationship without strings. It always starts off that way, doesn’t it? But this novel takes a different approach. One that is refreshing and that I liked a lot. First impressions set the stage for some great dialogue and a journey neither Lasham nor Margaret foresaw.

Ms. Frampton also drew a very sad and stilted picture of her hero, the Duke of Lasham. He’s proper, responsible and he’s never had any true fun or time for frivolous frolic in his youth. He’s a shadow of the man he should be. Enter the very unconventional Margaret. I had a ball watching her slowly but surely open up the hero’s eyes to another world he knew about but never understood. Margaret makes it come alive with a relevancy that changes his perception, turning him into a man of action, especially when he begrudgingly performs a few heroic deeds along the way. He simply can’t resist the heroine no matter what predicament she drags him into.

One of the most effective and clever scenes were the ones where Margaret took Lasham on excursions of “adventure”. It’s during those scenes that I saw the hero’s character evolve, watched their relationship overcome challenges and grow, and it’s also when their love blossomed. I think that’s when I fell a little in love with Lasham myself. In those pursuits they both saw wonderful things about each other, and other aspects which made them flawed, vulnerable and human. It’s also where I found most of the romantic moments throughout the novel. I enjoyed every single one.

For fans who like the bedroom door open enough to enjoy confirmation that Laham was totally, completely under passion’s sway, they’ll be gratified by his complete seduction of Margaret and her wild and satisfying response. They might have differences of opinion on many things but in the bedroom, they are quite energetic and wonderful together.

Another cute addition that Ms. Frampton added was the tale of Georgiana and the Dragon which was told in a few paragraphs before each chapter. That was equally entertaining and I chortled heartily with the publisher’s final plea. Margaret, like her creator, Ms. Frampton, flaunts convention and tells the tale their way and knows how to keep their audiences enthralled.

One-Eyed Dukes Are Wild was one of most romantically satisfying books I’ve read in a while. I think it was how Ms. Frampton presented the Duke of Lasham. I just wanted to hug him and love him all over; he’s such a wonderful man but he never had the chance to fly. Margaret gave him figurative wings and the rest was pure magic. This was a great read.

She returns with her camera and is ready to begin taking pictures, she notices the crows are bothering a scarecrow. She tries to run them off but they return. Unfortunately, they are not crows. They are turkey buzzards…

Mr. Daniels writes a tough non-stop mystery novel filled with action, terror, and a couple of psychopaths. He takes a new Homicide detective and dumps a serial killer case on her. Then he throws in a survivor of a horror of the past who still has baggage and has not recovered mentally. Jack is very smart, but he has issues of his own. Helping her on this case will bring all those memories back again and he hasn’t done well at containing them in a box in head yet.

He gets involved because the deaths are similar to the ones committed by a killer he put in prison. The first three look like copycat crimes, then the pattern changes. The new killer has other little quirks. He’s just as deadly, though.

Before the book is done, there are three killers involved, all them insane, and it’s Jack and Beth trying to take them down. It’s hard to do with little evidence and unknown assailants. But if they aren’t quick, they will become the next victims.

The ending is breathtaking and you can’t stop reading. The killer has Beth. Can Jack get there in time? I liked the story, the historical references of previous serial killers, the budding romance between Jack and Beth, and how they confess their secrets to each other. A good relationship begins with a level of trust. That’s why the ending of the story was made me so anxious… recommended.

Some affairs are like playing with fire, but knowing you’ll get burned is no reason to throw the game.

When her best friend doesn’t show up after a no-strings date with a man she met in a fetish club, Hazel is duty-bound to fetch her from what could be a sticky situation. She doesn’t expect to find her friend’s date so attractive—or so unflappably cool. Not that it matters. Hazel has been burned before and she knows to stay away from handsome men who are patently out of her league, especially when they’re involved with her one and only friend.

But not only does Dylan have his own playroom and a sound grip on the S&M lifestyle, he’s also a man of many secrets. Dylan sees a place for Hazel in his bed, but what he wants is more than a one-night stand.

As she acclimates to the idea that Dylan may not be entirely straight or entirely single, Hazel soon finds herself caught between two dominant men whose bond seems to balance on a knife’s point.

This story had so many aspects and elements to it that I hardly know where to begin. I adored the relationship between Hazel and Dylan from the very beginning. Even if they came together under what some may consider questionable reasons, it was clear from the beginning that they had chemistry and needed to be together. Then add in Ward, the questionable roommate of Dylan and Hazel’s past, and you get some amazing turn of events.

Hazel is one amazing woman, even though she has had some events in her life that has left her a bit jaded. I think on a personal level I related to her; she built a hard exterior to keep others out. That helped me connect with her as well as root for her from the very beginning. I knew she could find happiness if only she came to terms with her past and I was glad to watch the development.

Dylan is just too suave for his own good. I mean, how many girls and guys can he seduce really? I can tell why people seem to love him he just has a way about him. He makes you want to accept, respect, and submit to him. Yet, he does not take it for granted which really is a gift in itself.

Ward on the other hand is a guy I could never really figure out if I liked or hated, which is exactly how Hazel felt most times, and exactly what the author was going for. Even in the end I learned to appreciate him a bit more, but I still felt like someone needed to keep an eye on that one just in case. I also understand how he added a certain level of excitement and unpredictability to the story that really brought it to a different level.

Overall, I have to say I enjoyed reading this story. The relationship development was shaky at times but still continuously progressed. I have to say however that this is not one of those stories that left me thinking “and they lived happily ever after”. I felt like in the end some things went unresolved and could have used some wrapping up, but this may just be the authors way of getting me to look forward to the next story.
