Fifty-eight-year-old Jen Conrad is a grieving and brokenhearted woman. Since meeting and marrying Arthur thirty-seven years ago, Jen has never wanted for anything, until now. With Arthur dead, Jen realizes she has no access to their money, doesn’t know how bills are paid, doesn’t know what she owes, and has no credit of her own. Arthur’s law firm has always taken care of everything for them, and her brother-in-law, who was Arthur’s law partner, won’t talk to her about finances. Fortunately for Jen, being a genuinely good person, she has many friends who do not hesitate to rally around her during this difficult time. Her blood relatives, however, are another matter.

Enter Mom, an eighty-five-year-old woman with two daughters and a husband in an Alzheimer’s facility, who truly believes her motherly advice should be followed to the letter, even when it opposes everything Jen Conrad stands for. To make matters worse, Jen’s sister, Maggie, agrees with Mom. It seems as though Jen can’t do anything right anymore, so why bother trying to please anyone other than herself? With a true talent for needlework, Jen reinvents herself in the most creative way!

This is an in-depth story with unforgettable characters and believable circumstances. After finishing this novel, I felt as though I had made a room full of new friends and found a little extra meaning to living life itself. This is a debut novel for author Kathy Weyer, which amazes me further. Stitches does not read like a book written by a novice writer, but rather one written by one of the greats.

Is it without its flaws? No, unfortunately it has many editing errors, simple ones that even a novice proofreader should have caught and fixed before sending it to print. Considering the high quality of writing and storytelling, these errors were disappointing. I would have gladly elevated this to a “Best Book” status if it were not for the editing mishaps.

Stitches is one of those rare books I am sure to find myself reading again before too long. And I am genuinely excited to see what comes next from this author! If you’ve ever read and loved best-selling author Jacqueline Susann of “Valley of the Dolls” and “Once Is Not Enough” fame, you are going to adore the work of Kathy Weyer. Ms. Susann may have had more sex in her novels, but she certainly didn’t have more heart.

Sloane Osborne is a paranormal realtor in the business of selling haunted houses but, in truth, she’s only searching for one ghost. And her time is running out. It’s the 366th day after her fiancé’s death. Michael used to like putting things off for “a year and a day”—so tonight’s the night. Sloane will do anything to make contact with him before the clock strikes midnight. When she gets a call to check out a home in Waukesha, Wisconsin, it’s the last place she thinks Michael would contact her. Sloane is dead wrong.

Haunted houses don’t sell well, but Sloane isn’t slogging them for the money. No, she’s on a single-minded, desperate quest to track down her dead fiancé’s ghost and open her eyes to the supernatural. She is not letting death part her from the love of her life, and her travel to find him is nail-bitingly good. I was zooming through the pages from start to finish.

Not only did this story have ghosts, it also had a mystery to solve, the truth behind why so many ghosts are inside one home. I guessed who was at fault in the first third to half of the book, but this was not a problem. The real mystery and interest to the book is in the twist on how they did it, and the history behind their criminal activity. This was fascinating to uncover and completely unexpected. This discovery and the bonds between ghosts and the human characters kept me wondering which side would win and survive to see another book, and whether the ghosts would ever be at peace.

Sloane as a character starts one-dimensional. She has one need and lets little else get in her way. This makes her foolish, and she jumps into bad situations too quickly. It’s also realistic. She is in the depths of mourning for the man she grew close to and, after his death, convinced herself was perfect.

Sloane’s partner in solving crime, Jonah, is an FBI agent and so not always at hand to help her out of her emotional crisis, and this story’s crisis. However, he is loyal, patient, clever and comes across as very attractive. The problem? She’s not only hung up on her dead ex, but Jonah is also her ex’s best friend. This creates a romantic crisis to go along with the plot’s tumultuous ride through a murder mystery. (Be warned: violence and neglect are explored in the telling of the murders and could cause upset.)

In terms of sexual content, the only fully fulfilled sexual acts are with the dead romantic interest, Michael, in a kind of alternate reality which Sloane reaches during her darkest moments. I found that it was written well but I could not immerse myself in the story as it was written as if it was between a memory and the present, as well as with a person who is now dead, which makes the whole process somewhat odd.

However, the new, dreamy FBI agent is clamouring for Sloane as much as she is in denial over enjoying his company and I foresee a sequel with as much thrilling action and fulfilling mystery as this book, only with the addition of blisteringly hot trysts with a new partner. Bring it on!

Lord Sebastian Gresham is a battle-tested soldier and brilliant strategist. Yet all his life he’s had to hide his complete failure to decipher letters. In his own mind, he’s just stupid. What a miracle it is that he’s found the perfect bride.

Lady Georgina Stane is beautiful, witty, and brilliantly intelligent. Sebastian is head over heels in love, proud as a peacock, and terrified. If she finds out his secret, will he lose her love forever?

Lord Sebastian Gresham, a major in the military, who considers himself “the dimmest” of all the sons of the Duke and Duchess of Langford, goes to meet the family of Georgina, his fiancée, at Stane Castle that is “back of beyond.” He finds a most unique household.

Georgina’s parents married because of their mutual physical attraction, their mutual dislike of society and mutual respect for the other one’s desire to have the freedom to pursue his or her own interests without being nagged. These “interests” create humor, more than a little conflict, and also create obstacles that threaten to destroy Sebastian and Georgina’s dreams.

The humorous situations created by Emma and Hilda, Georgina’s younger sisters, were delightful usually. However, Hilda creates a situation that is life-threatening for both Georgina and Sebastian and really “sets the fox among the chickens” as far as Georgina’s father is concerned. While he is most unconventional in the pursuit of his varied interests, he is very conventional about the behavior of Georgina and Sebastian before they are married. How they get out of this predicament had me reading full-speed-ahead.

About the time I felt like I could slow down to catch my breath, Mr. Mitra, the guest from India teaching Georgina’s father about Hinduism, and the Governess, Joanna, create a situation that will expose Sebastian’s secret. How this gets worked out is not to be missed.

Another humorous part of the household was the herd of little dogs–pugs, no less–that showed up at most inconvenient times. They were Georgina’s mother’s little darlings and nobody dared try to discipline them—fun to read about, but probably not funny to really have to deal with.

The love scenes, so well done, give the reader a good feeling of how right Georgina and Sebastian are for each other. However, there are issues. She is an heiress and has a lot of money while he has little in comparison and then there is his secret. The author, with admirable skill, does indeed hold one’s interest as she untangles the problems.

Lord Sebastian’s Secret is delightful entertainment!

An endless conflict. An old wrong. A new revelation.

Simon Hathaway, member of the Templar Inner Sanctum, brings a cool head and detached manner to his new role as Head of Abstergo Industry’s Historical Research Division.

But Simon also has an insatiable curiosity, and is fascinated by the thought of experiencing history first-hand through his ancestor–Gabriel Laxart, who fought alongside the legendary Joan of Arc.

When he enters the newly-designed Animus for its initial project, Simon finds himself unprepared for what he discovers: How deep the conflict between the Templars and the Assassins goes. What Gabriel will do for the woman he both loves and reveres.

And the most dangerous truth of all: Who is the heretic…and who is the true believer.

When I saw that there was an Assassin’s Creed book being written, I of course had to read it because I LOVE Assassin’s Creed. What makes this book different is that it’s coming from the perspective of the modern day Templars, which is the organization that fights against the Assassins. Normally in the Assassin’s Creed games, the point of view comes from the assassin, so it’s an interesting twist in getting to see what the other side thinks and how they operate.

This particular book was about the history of Joan of Arc. The Templars are trying to find pieces of Eden, which are basically super powerful objects that both the Templars and the Assassins want possession of. They’re hard to come by, so it’s a bit of a race to find them. I liked being able to read from the perspective of Simon Hathaway, who is part of Abstergo industries (the business the Templars hide behind) and understanding a different side to the story. We get to follow him as he experiences the Animus, which is a high tech device used by both the Assassins and the Templars to access their ancestors memories. It does get a little confusing flip flopping between the ancient world of Joan of Arc and the modern day world, but the games are much the same.

I thought the book provided some key insight into history as well – though a work of fiction, it was still interesting to read about Joan of Arc, especially from an emotional standpoint. The book is also a little more in depth than the game, which I appreciate, but it is a difficult transition for me to remember that I’m not interacting with the characters.

The interpersonal relations between Gabriel and Joan and Simon and Anaya are enjoyable, but are certainly adult. The game is similar; it’s marketed to teens, but it uses adult characters. I tend to dismiss that as I’m playing, because it doesn’t arise often.

All-in-all, this was a good book that honors the Assassin’s Creed legacy. If you’re a fan of the game, grab this book for an interesting look at how the other side thinks.

When he meets Rachel, he is instantly attracted.

One event reveals her past in a spectacular way. Will Zane forgive her silence?

Could anything be worse than being an innocent woman wrongly convicted and jailed in 1873? Only if your family and friends turn against you, believing you are guilty!

Rachel Ross has only one ally the day she steps out of prison—her brother, Patrick. He takes her home where her mother, father, and sisters are waiting, only to find them ready and anxious to throw her out, shamed by her crime and imprisonment. Surely, she could convince her family that she is innocent of the charges. After all, her wretched boss framed her to cover for his embezzlement! Unfortunately, her homecoming was the worst one imaginable leaving Rachel in the predicament of finding a new home fast. With the help of her brother, Rachel sees a newspaper advertisement seeking women “for the purpose of marriage.” She arrives for her interview with Mrs. Lydia Harrison and is soon on her way to the town of Tarnation, Texas, along with several other single women. More than a dozen eligible bachelors await the bride brigade. It doesn’t take long for Rachel to meet the handsome Zane Davis, owner of the local freight office. But the thought of telling him about her past and the conviction hanging over her head fills her with enough shame and self-doubt that she decides to stay silent while keeping her heart locked up tight.

This is a unique storyline with good characters making for an entertaining read, but it had its flaws. Its multitude of editing errors (“Adam shifted rose and shifted” or “what if she they came across someone,” etc), coupled with the book’s almost indistinguishable “voice” identifying the 1873 time period, took me completely out of the story many times. Lines such as, “when the cab arrived” and “Ken Hill followed in the second vehicle” are not words that reflect the 1873 time period when horses, wagons, trains, and stagecoaches were the mode of transportation. As a fan of historical fiction, accuracy is important, too, and giving Rachel an alarm clock that she could tote around in her luggage was a tough one considering the first wind up mechanical clock didn’t come along until 1876. Alarm clocks that were in existence at that time would not have been easily transportable.  Still, I found myself making excuses for the anachronisms, because I enjoyed the story so much.

I am not normally a fan of prologues or epilogues, but this story ends with a well-written, satisfying epilogue, which ties up loose ends and unanswered questions nicely. Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I will definitely try this author on a future book.

If you crave unusual circumstances with a “mail order bride” scenario then this book will be right up your alley!

With a lot riding on him, Joseph can only hope for help from old friends and old flames alike, if he is to turn the tide of destiny.

This is the third book in the series and while it can be read as a standalone for the most part, I feel I would have enjoyed the book more had I read the first two in the series. I’ve bought them and look forward to reading the series from the beginning.

Because the book has a history, there was some confusion at times as I tried to work out the different relationships. But that eased out as I got into the story.

The characters are complex and well-drawn–they are definitely not one-dimensional copies of vampires. They have their faults and foibles, and all is not fun and games in the vampire camps. In fact, they take great joy in killing each other. There is a side that fights for right and a side that fights for evil and this is where this book has us.

Joseph, a reluctant vampire at best, is doing his best to get on with his life and studies. Unfortunately life had different plans, and he is caught up in a battle to help save the world. The intricacies of his relationships with a former love and a new love set up an interesting dilemma of its own. While it’s not a romance, there were a couple of sex scenes that, in my opinion, did not add much to the book.

The book is easy to read, but I do suggest reading the entire series in order. I think you would find it a richer experience.

Lindi Parker works hard at being human, not an easy task for a weresnake. She has no desire to search for others like her—until a new case changes everything. When Lindi learns that she’s not the only shapeshifter in the world, she realizes she might be next on a killer’s list.

In order to save herself and the abused children she works with, she will have to team up with Dr. Kade Nevala, a member of the shifter tribe responsible for eradicating weresnakes—and the most attractive man Lindi’s ever met. Even more terrifying, she’ll need to embrace her serpent side, a choice that has enormous consequences for Lindi, and for everyone around her.

Snakes are an unusual animal for the shifter subgenre, and the book has an extra twist – Margo Bond Collins knows her snakes inside out, and this is what makes the book fascinating. I learned a lot about snake characteristics and enjoyed the application of these to a shifter, and a greater shifter world. The neutral treatment of the species was refreshing for an animal often vilified in fiction. I also learned they have a nemesis: the mongoose.
Kamagra tablets, cialis sale news, cialis etc. are some side-effects. Mild intensity aerobic exercise (like walking) on a daily basis may found cialis on sale fatal for your health. There is buy viagra pill always some kind of medication that can help solve your problem. thank you.
My one complaint about the subject matter was that it is difficult to put a new spin on the tired shifter concept and that, although the unusual animals goes a long way toward doing this, I had no idea what a mongoose was and could have done with more explanatory imagery.

The characters themselves are well drawn and often morally grey in their choices. The protagonist, Lindi, is working against her base instincts and has put herself in a job where she is forced to be empathetic toward humans, pushing her predatory instincts to the back of her mind. Her reactions to fears of her true nature and towards prejudice in the shifter world are realistic and avoid being whiny. I enjoyed seeing her bravery and determination to do the right thing for vulnerable women and children. I one hundred percent trusted her character, and that she would not deviate from her caring tendencies. This kept me turning the pages, hoping she found a second home in the shifter community, and mentally berating those that would oppose her so rudely.

The romantic interest, Kade, is attractive and intelligent, with his own important job. However, I felt he was clever enough to realise he should have explained more about the shifter world to the clueless Lindi earlier on. This lapse was one of the only places I lost believability in both Lindi and Kade’s reactions and decisions. In line with this, I wasn’t keen on how Lindi was pushed into the shifter world with little preparation. All too often characters in shifter stories think their choice is the best and don’t consult with the individual involved. I was surprised that Lindi didn’t take more offence to this.

Romantically, Lindi and Kade should be at loggerheads due to their opposing animal natures, but they can barely keep their hands off each other. It is as if there is a mating call between them – though this is never stated. In fact, by the end of the book, I was still unsure if their attraction was a natural, human, first sight attraction or whether it was an animal instinct amplifying their feelings. I feel this could have been better explained and was waylaid by the plot. However, the steamy sexual tension between these two makes up for it. There is a constant danger in their intimate sessions, their bodies on the edge between human and animal (without crossing the line into bestiality). This heightens the emotion and tension behind the scenes, as does their relatively short length.

The non-romantic plot kept me on my toes and kept Lindi from escaping Kade’s advances. It pushed the main characters into their relationship and showed each of them how strong the other was, and how strong their emotions were. The final fight scene had me wondering who would survive, and turning pages as quickly as I could to get to the end, despite having guessed the culprit from 50-65% of the way through the book. This makes the novel perfect for a romance, but not ideal for mystery lovers.

Under Her Skin, in short, is a new twist on shifter tropes of romance, control, and a council-ruled hidden society within the human world. The romance is tense and slitheringly hot, the plot fast-paced and full of both intrigue and high emotions. There’s also a lot of mileage for a sequel where the shifter world adjusts to its new additions. If you like paranormal romance, this is not one to miss.

As manager of one of the finest hotels in Arizona Territory, Portia Carmichael has respect and stability—qualities sorely missing from her harsh childhood. She refuses to jeopardize that by hitching herself to the wrong man. Suitors are plentiful, but none of them has ever looked quite as tempting as the family friend who just rode into town…and none has looked at her with such intensity and heat.

Duchess. That’s the nickname Kent Randolph gave Portia when she was a young girl. Now she’s a stunning, intelligent woman—and Kent has learned his share of hard lessons. After drifting through the West, he’s learned the value of a place to settle down, and in Portia’s arms he’s found that and more. But convincing her to trust him with her heart, not just her passion, will be the greatest challenge he’s known—and one he intends to win…

Though Portia Carmichael and her sister Regan were left with their Aunt Eddy and Uncle Rhine Fontaine and their mother didn’t have the best reputation in town they turned out to be fine adult women. With a bitter assumption of love and relationships from her mother’s example Portia is adamant about not getting married. We probably all have declared what we won’t do and majority of the time we know how that turns out. Will the love bug make its way to Portia and perhaps leave her breathless?

Though this book didn’t quite leave me breathless I did find it entertaining and to be a well written story. The first conversation was between Portia and her younger single sister Regan commenting on Portia’s need to find a man. For any reader that has read previous books by Ms. Jenkins this book pretty much follows suit. There isn’t any surprise or suspense as to will there be a mate for Portia; you know there will be. I would have liked for the story to have started with a neutral subject like the planning of her aunt and uncle’s anniversary dinner or the arrival of Kent Randolph and then later during the relationship between Portia and Kent there could have been some resistance and her hesitation to be involved then be brought up. Emphases on Portia’s underlying mother abandonment issues were repeated through out the book with no resolution; and even though the majority of the book was on Portia’s lack of a love life her relationship with Kent grew so quickly it was all a turn off for me.

I didn’t feel the connection between Portia and Kent. I like that they spent time together, getting to know each other but the physical seemed quick and rush. Men around town were interested in Portia but she paid them no mind but quickly found interest in Kent not even knowing his past. Her hesitation to not marry was so quickly forgotten. I would have liked to have saw something more personal and heartfelt from Portia as to why she so quickly changed her mind about marriage.

I did like that Portia is a strong and independent woman. She realized she was good at bookkeeping and set a goal to open her own business doing bookkeeping for the neighboring businesses. She wasn’t a lady waiting around for a man to take care of her. She had plenty men wanting to marry her but she enjoyed working and having her independence. Her sister Regan also was a woman of independence by delivering mail twice a week with her mule Josephine, which was not kindly looked upon in such early times. Even though their mother disappointed them their aunt and uncle did a good job in bringing them up to be self sufficient ladies.

There were sub-stories that happened around town that gave a filling story. The events that unfold with Uncle Rhine purchasing Old Man Blanchard’s land gave the story more interest because it built conflict and gave something to the stotyline in addition to the romance. There were several characters introduced in the story that I found it distracting trying to keep up with all the names and to figure out who was relevant to the story.

I didn’t read book one in The Old Series, but I was able to follow the storyline okay. However to get the full history and background of the characters it may be best to read book one first. The author has a gift for writing and story telling. The Fontaine and Carmichael’s bring about a fascinating ongoing story as part of The Old Series. I enjoyed the loving family atmosphere, the western setting is so real and the author’s knowledge about riding horses was fascinating to read. I would like to continue with the series just to see will there be more revealed about Portia and Regan’s mother and is there any hope for their relationship to be repaired.

This is a book that I would recommend to a reader that enjoys a love story that is simple with no frills and definitely those that have read book one in The Old Series.

I always thought it would be cool to be a race car driver but not after reading all the non-glamorous work that is involved in running the circuit. However, Aiden Foster was a delicious book boyfriend while it lasted and it was awesome to read his happy ever after ending.

Melanie Hunt was a very good press officer for Aiden Foster. Their romance was spicy, turbulent and kept me turning the pages. For the most part the book kept a good pace. I took a couple of stars off the rating because of the moments where I wanted to bang my head against the wall. I fully understood that the hero was frustrated about being compared to his father’s championship-winning legacy. I got the picture that Aiden was a playboy. I understood Melanie previously suffered a broken heart and had trust issues. All good romance stories have conflicts that play with our emotions but it was almost too painful to read how Melanie and Aiden couldn’t work things out sooner than they did.

Other characters were brought into the story that eased the annoying back and forth between Aiden and Melanie such as the young boy that goes missing which is mentioned in the synopsis.

The good thing is that all of that on again/ off again romance scenes between Melanie and Aiden paid off in the end. I was finally rewarded with a sense of peace. It was practically an orgasmic feeling to finally have a happy ending. I seriously was about to murder Melanie myself if she didn’t wake up and realize Aiden was more than what she deserved!

I would recommend this book especially after reading the epilogue. The author did a very nice job wrapping up the story. What ever headache I might of had brewing from banging my head was magically healed. I was left feeling sated and dreamy.

Upon the death of Glory, the family’s colorful matriarch, and the return of long-estranged Callie, Ginger resolves to return to Martha’s Vineyard and piece together what really happened on that calamitous day when a shadow fell over four sun-kissed siblings playing at the shore. Catharsis, thy name is Sisters One, Two, Three.

Everyone has those moments they’ve gone through that have galvanized them. Kids growing up, getting older, mistakes made…we learn to live with them or at least get past them. That’s a lot of what this book is about. There’s a wide mix in a family. Yes, it takes all types and the Tangle family has them in spades.

The writing flowed well and I didn’t want to put the book down. That said, I did look away many times and had to redirect my interest. Makes no sense? While I wanted to know more, I got a tad bored on occasion. There was so much angst, I had to step away. I liked the book, but I had a hard time connecting the entire time. It wasn’t a bad story…but maybe it wasn’t the right read for me right now. That doesn’t mean it won’t appeal to others. I’m sure it will.

Readers, like me, should find a bit of themselves in each sister. The tragedy does mark them. Grief, numbness, sadness… we’ve all been there. It was like reading about my friends and going through the whole summer together. I don’t regret it. There’s the sister with control issues, the one who wants to control nothing, and the damaged one. There’s the mother with more issues than can be counted and everyone trying to come together to deal.

If you like a book high on angst and characterization, then this is the book for you. You’ll laugh, cry and look at your own life a little differently.
