This is the third book in the series although I haven’t read any of the previous ones. I do wish I had, simply to be up to date with the story so far. Saying that, I was still able to enjoy this one as a standalone for the most part.

As is usual for the Shifter world, once two shifters meet who are meant to be, it happens pretty quickly. In this though, Max is the one to keep things slow as he gives Caterina time to come to terms with her past. I loved that about him.

Plenty of characters and plenty of action to keep my attention, this was a fast-paced story that flowed from one scene to the next. Definitely recommended by me.

To win a war, could you leave everything behind? That’s the question that Ana is asked one morning in Chester Zoo. Her answer will affect three other people’s lives, no matter which way she chooses.

Now, obviously, she chooses to go, otherwise, there wouldn’t be a story! But the good thing is, she thinks about it. She doesn’t just rush in where angels fear to tread. Instead, she makes her decision and stands firm on it, whilst at the same time, thinking through just exactly what it means. I loved that. The attraction is there immediately between her and Brenin and yet, once again, they go slow. I loved how phrases were worded, nearly as much as Ana did.

The pacing is perfect for the story, giving you both enough ‘slow time’ with some sexy moments between our two main characters, and also ‘fast time’ when action is the word of the day. Even characters you don’t know that well wriggle under your skin and make you feel.

The ending of this book will definitely leave you wanting more… immediately! A brilliant start to a series I want more from. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending it.

Every child likes to have adventures, but what happens when things get out of control? In “The Wild World of Wiley and JuJu: Wiley and JuJu Go to the Library”, older sister JuJu is left to clean up the destruction caused by her frightened younger brother, Wiley. While books are falling off shelves and scattering everywhere, JuJu scrambles to catch Wiley and convince him to rejoin storytime. Storytime is fun, especially when it’s about your favorite animal!

No matter what you’ve done at a library, it probably can’t top this adventure.

Mrs. Longerhans had some nice character development. As the librarian in charge of story time, she had a lot of work cut out for her when it came to keeping all of the kids interested in what she was saying. I was as amused by Juju and Wiley’s first impression of her as I was by how she gradually revealed other sides of her personality throughout this event. She seemed like someone who knew her job well, and it showed.

It would have been helpful to have more descriptions in this tale. Wiley ended up getting into some mischief during this visit to the library, so there was plenty of space here for the narrator to show exactly what this little boy was doing instead of sitting quietly and listening to stories. My imagination and the illustrations filled in many of the details, but I would have liked it if the plot could have thrown in a few more of them as well.

Speaking of adventures, Wiley certainly had a lot of them this day! I kept giggling and shaking my head as I saw all of the creative but honestly a bit naughty ways he came up with to entertain himself. He was the sort of kid who had trouble sitting still even for activities that were supposed to be tailored for his age group. I haven’t seen many picture books out there about children like him, so it was neat to have this explanation for why he kept doing things that his much calmer older sister had to make right again. They made his adventures even more interesting than they already were.

Anyone who has ever had trouble staying still or loves someone who struggles with that should check out The Wild World of Wily and Juju: Wiley and Juju Go to the Library.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve read such an original plot. I’ve honestly never read a storyline quite like this one. I found it especially clever when I connected the title of the book to a scene within it. I’ve never read anything by Andrea Downing before and I was impressed with her intelligent writing style.

The hero, Shiloh, and the heroine, Sydney, both have strong moral beliefs that oppose each other’s values. I felt like I was caught in the middle, trying to understand both points of view while questioning my own values and moral beliefs. I for one enjoy reading for entertainment purposes and for pure escapism. Because of my preferences, I probably won’t re-read this book but I genuinely enjoyed the originality, cleverness and writing style, enough to recommend this book to others. I really believe this would be a perfect book for a philosophical reader.

The romance between Shiloh and Sydney was sweet and realistic for that time period. There wasn’t a large cast of characters, but I found that the few the author introduced me to were well developed and relatable.

In conclusion, Shot Through the Heart has the potential to hit the mark in future readers’ hearts!

Inspired by the incredible true story of a German teen taken prisoner at the end of WWII, determined to survive and to reunite with his mother – A Lightness in My Soul is a tribute to the triumph of hope and redemption against all odds.

Germany, October 2019: In a car repair shop an elderly man waits next to a woman. They begin to talk about the Great War, when he was just a teen. He tells her a story, one he has never shared—his own.

Bavaria, April 1945: For the last two years, fifteen-year old Arthur and his classmates have lived in a youth camp. Far from home and allied bombs they spend their days with lessons, hikes, play fights and helping local farmers harvest ever decreasing crops. They have been told that the war will be over soon and that they’ll return home to a victorious Germany.

When the U.S. Army marches into camp, they are arrested and taken to the just liberated Dachau concentration camp. Everything they ever believed turns out to be false. They were lied to… not only has Germany lost the war, what they find is monstrous. But being a prisoner is only the beginning of their ordeal…

War is never easy for anyone, especially minors.

Arthur was a likeable character. He struck me as someone who was kind of hard on himself for the portions of his story that he would have done differently if he’d known all of the bends and twists in it from the beginning. His mistakes were generally minor ones like wishing for larger meals when rations were cut yet again or to no longer catch diseases like scabies that can spread so easily in institutional settings. These small moments humanized him. Honestly, I would have complained about them, too, if I’d been in the same situation. I kept hoping for a happy ending for him no matter how unlikely his chances of getting one might have looked at the moment.

The ending felt a little abrupt to me, especially considering all of the traumatic experience Arthur had been through during the last few years of World War II. There were some important subplots that were never resolved, especially as they pertained to some of the people he met along the way. While I definitely wouldn’t expect every single one of my questions to be answered due to this being loosely based on a true story that was set during such a turbulent era, it would have been nice to have a few more conflicts resolved.

This novella was filled with detailed descriptions of Arthur’s life at a Kinderlandverschickung, a rural camp set up for children and youth by the Third Reich to protect them from allied bombs, as well as his much more difficult experiences shortly after the war ended. Arthur observed more human suffering during these teenage years of his than many people know in a lifetime. I appreciated how honestly he shared his tale, especially the portions that he found painful to recount.

A Lightness in My Soul was an absorbing tale I’d recommend to adults and teens who are interested in what life was like for German civilians during World War II.

A Russian spy boat has called for help while illegally in Canadian waters and Captain Banks and his men are meant to investigate, gather any intelligence or weaponry they can and assist the Russians off on their way. But things immediately go downhill and the icy water hold untold monsters – and they are hungry for human flesh.

I’ve read a number of William Meikle’s stories and he is an excellent story teller. While he has some great folk and true horror stories out there, I feel what he really excels best at is the cheesy style of “big monster” tales. Think a 1950s cheesy horror movie or a bad B grade “Return of the Walking Mummy” type of story. You might need to totally suspend your disbelief for the plot – but the characters are always amazing, the mechanics of the plot and monsters are always excellent and the tale itself is usually short, sharp and a thrill to read. This story is no exception.

While totally a stand alone novel, it is here we are introduced to Captain Banks and his crew. After this story Captain Banks and some of his men (they revolve around enough to mean you don’t have to read any of these in order really) become The S-Squad which has it’s own series along the same lines of this one – ie “big scary hungry monster tries to eat everyone”. I’ve enjoyed enough of them I am now trying to collect them all and keep on top of the series, so clearly Mr. Meikle is doing a fantastic job.

Readers looking for a quick read and enjoy cheesy, old-fashioned monster flicks with a lot of atmosphere, a large monster with lots of teeth and a few scares should find this story right up their alley. This isn’t a plot-heavy story and the characters are well-drawn but not as deep as you’d find in a longer story. The camaraderie between them was something I personally really enjoyed reading and more importantly once the monsters start coming out and eating everything the characters are excellent and a lot more focused. While I wouldn’t call this horror in the strictest sense (this isn’t gory or overly descriptive of the killing) it’s a little harder/scarier than a traditional mystery/thriller and so I feel it needs a “light” horror label to it.

Refreshingly different and an excellent story – this book kept me up and made me glad I don’t live too close to an icy cold ocean/river! Recommended.

This is an age-gap romance and one of the things that I love these series is that these tough bikers, who could do so much violence, are taking women who are in need of help. In the process of that, falling in love with them. I am in no way saying that these women are damsels in distress. A lot of these women are strong, independent and in this case, doing everything she could do give the best to her kid. Rachel is giving her everything to her kid at the expense of her health sometimes. I love how caring and understanding he is to her.

I had initially thought that they would not be good for each other, in the sense that the romance would barely be there. but the chemistry was there. You should not be disappointed. What surprised me was definitely the cover. It was not the normal silver fox/older guy covers that I have seen so far. Steel has been someone who takes in strays. Takes care of them. Tries to give them everything they need to be the best of themselves. I have been wondering for some time the women he would fall for. Rachel is running away from someone and trying to protect her son. She did need some help and Steel was it. But she got her HEA with it as well.

Mind you, there is violence as mentioned in the blurb.

This was a book I read in one sitting. As long as you do not mind the age-gap, it will be a great erotic read for the readers. You get a protector, some sizzling romance, a kid, a doggy…and bikers!!
