Mr. Cash is an author who clearly loves writing in this genre and it shows on every page.

If you’re looking for true horror than this book isn’t for you but if like me, you can’t resist a great ghost story then I think this fits the bill.

What I enjoy most about this author’s work is while there’s a meaty paranormal plot going on he doesn’t shortchange the reader with the characters. Each one is carefully crafted and the lead one is always someone you like and cheer for. For me that’s what makes paranormal and horror books so good, it’s not just me being scared, but being scared about something bad happening to a great character and that’s what this book was all about.

The pacing on this story was spot on too and I found myself reading it in just two sittings. I loved the setting and I could imagine Stillwell and the wishing well clearly in my mind. There’s nothing like an older house with a reputation of sorts to make your skin tingle.

It’s almost Halloween and if you’re in the mood for something creepy, I’d say check out Stillwell.

Three women, three lives, and one chance to become a family…whether they want to or not.

Newly orphaned, recently divorced, and semiadrift, Nina Popkin is on a search for her birth mother. She’s spent her life looking into strangers’ faces, fantasizing they’re related to her, and now, at thirty-five, she’s ready for answers.

She’s too busy with her successful salon, three children, beautiful home, and…oh yes, some pesky little anxiety attacks.

But Nina is determined to reassemble her birth family. Her search turns up Phoebe Mullen, a guarded, hard-talking woman convinced she has nothing to offer. Gradually sharing stories and secrets, the three women make for a messy, unpredictable family that looks nothing like Nina pictured…but may be exactly what she needs. Nina’s moving, ridiculous, tragic, and transcendent journey becomes a love story proving that real family has nothing to do with DNA.

One of the perks of being a book reviewer is stumbling upon new authors you might not have found on your own. And yes, I hit pay dirt with this one.

Some of my favorite books are those that are both bittersweet and funny at the same time. Sounds like an oxymoron but those are the stories that pull on your emotions and make you think what you’re reading is actually real.

While I didn’t like all the characters at the very beginning…and yes, I did cheer for Nina from the first page, I did end up wanting all good things for the three women featured in this story. None of them are perfect but it’s those imperfections that made them come across as people I meet on any given day.

The story, as the name suggests, is very family centric and while not all us search for our birth parents or have children we gave up for adoption, show up one day, we call can relate to what family really means. The dialogue is wonderful and the pacing spot on. Even though this is a 400 plus page book, you find yourself easily gliding through it.

What I took away from this book is that we’re all work in progress and to coin the cliché, that no man is an island. I’ll definitely be reading more books by this author and recommend this family drama as ideal fall reading.

Here’s the problem with myths and legends; they’re fiction. At one time, they may have been stories of real people, but over time, the story was passed from person to person, so what was once fact, becomes the written fables of those long ago.

Quitting her teaching career and working full time on her fledgling editing business, Julie Michaels isn’t prepared for the shedload of changes heading her way. To be precise, it’s just one screeching stop on the crazy train away.

Dean “Death” Apocalos never imagined change would come so swiftly in the form of love, chaos, and Decay. Dean and his three brothers are about to see their worst fear come to light; their forgotten brother and the fifth horseman, Decay.

Previously entombed, someone has let the loon loose on LA. It’s now up to the horsemen to put him back in his box… before he upsets the balance once more.

This book jumpstarts a brand new paranormal series for Lila Rose and Justine Littleton. Death is a fantastic read that put an entertaining spin on the legend of the four horsemen. It’s romantic, imaginative and funny. I was hooked from the first page.

The first thing that caught my interest was the vibrant characters that are a part of every Lila Rose story. I love her Hawkes MC series and this one promises to be just as addictive. The characters absolutely stuck in my mind. Julie was so strong and Dean (aka Death) was sexy and over the top possessive. I loved each of the brothers, and can’t help wondering which one will be next to find his mate. I feel that it’s probably the key to stopping Kayne / Decay. It’s to the authors’ credit for showing Kayne’s vulnerable side that I also really need for him to find his own redemption, as well. A mate perhaps for our villain too, I just wish it could be Fallon. Oh yes, in this one, even the secondary characters were interesting. This entire world is incredibly imaginative and there is an engrossing mystery and super hot sex.

So from beginning to end this story was pure entertainment. I loved it so much that it flew by with ease. I really didn’t want it to end so soon because now I’m left waiting for the next book that can’t come too soon. This series is a great paranormal escape that I feel everyone will enjoy.

BIG SKY CHRISTMAS
Thack Lane has his hands full. For the past seven years, he’s been struggling to move on from his wife’s tragic death and raise a daughter all by his lonesome. He doesn’t have time for himself, much less a cheerful new neighbor with a smile that can light up the ranch.

Christmas spirit? Bah, humbug.

With Christmas right around the corner, Summer Shaw is searching for somewhere to belong. When her neighbor’s young daughter takes a shine to her, she is thrilled. But Thack is something else altogether. He’s got walls around his heart that no amount of holiday wishes can scale. Yet as joy comes creeping back to the lonely homestead, Summer and Thack may just find their happily ever after before the last of the Christmas miracles are through…

I believe in Christmas miracles and I love to read books that incorporate family, love, hope and happiness. I actually thought I came from a dysfunctional family until I read this story about Summer Shaw, the heroine, who opened my eyes to the fact that I’ve got a pretty good family. Both the heroine and the hero both have tragic past stories that broke my heart and yet because of that history I felt it made them perfect for each other.

I was glad the author shared their past history, not to depress me but because it helped me to understand why the characters made their choices. That history, shocking in an uncomfortable kind of way, is what helped me to develop empathy for all the characters. Well, actually not Summer’s mother. That character was despicable and the author did a great job of making me think unspeakable things about her. Summer’s mother kept you turning the pages just waiting for vindication. This part of the plot is what made it a bit suspenseful. The ending left me feeling justified.

Despite Summer’s past history I found it easy to relate to her because of her natural love for children and the need to be accepted and belong to a family. Thack, the hero, was written as a loving and devoted father to his daughter, Kate. The type of husband I’d want for myself and my children. Kate was an entertaining 7 year old. I enjoy stories that incorporate a bit of humor and make me chuckle, and with Thack and Kate, I had quite a few giggles. My favorite new saying, thanks to Thack is, “Sweet Pickles”.

It was a unique and interesting plot that is plausible. It moved at an acceptable rate which is reminiscent of something I’d see on a soap opera or on the Hallmark channel versus real life. True-Blue Cowboy Christmas was an enjoyable read that met my expectations.

Vivian Arend delivered another amazing chapter in her Six Pack Ranch series. Rocky Mountain Devil is the tenth book in the series but it can just as easily be read as a stand alone story. My interest was totally captured from the first page until the last one.

Rafe and Laurel became best friends on their first day at school and their bond was solid up until graduation. Like most young people they traveled in different directions but in their case they never quite forgot about that first love. Years have gone by but now Laurel has returned to their hometown of Rocky Mountain House and Rafe is determined to pick up where they left off. For the most part that’s how it happened but they both had some issues that kept getting in the way. Rafe’s family situation isn’t the best and Laurel’s obnoxious ex has followed her home to keep getting in the way of her relationship with Rafe.

Vivian Arend is an amazing author and this book / series is a solid favorite of mine. The depth of her writing was incredible, as usual. The feel good ease of the story and appeal and emotions of the characters pulled me right into the story. There were a few tense times in the story where I really felt bad for Rafe and Laurel. I loved how they shared their secrets and were there to pick each other up when things got rough. This story was just so genuine and so were the characters.

I absolutely loved it !

As Emma Lovett discovers the perils of teaching high school, she and Leslie learn more than they ever wanted to know about the reasons people kill.

School is supposed to be a place to learn, not a place to die.

Emma and Leslie’s budding friendship was one of my favourite things about this tale. I learned a lot about both of them by seeing how quickly they started spending time together and what a good time they had every time they met up. Their personalities complemented each other nicely. I also liked seeing how both of the characters were different from each other. Emma seemed to be a little more quiet and shy, so it was fascinating to watch Leslie bring out parts of her personality that no one else could.

There were a few mild pacing issues in the beginning. The main character spent a lot of time telling the audience about how she was handling her new job and what she thought about the people she met there before the circumstances surrounding the murder were discussed. This did slow down the plot a little at first, but the rest of the book more than made up for that.

The mystery was really well done. I enjoyed seeing how Emma snuck around the school and other places in order to find new clues about the murder since there weren’t many of them in the beginning. She definitely had her work cut out for her. The fact that nothing was revealed easily made this a lot of fun to read. I silently cheered every time she uncovered another clue or learning something new about an existing one.

I’d recommend Death by Diploma to anyone who likes a little romance in their murder mysteries.

But as their journey home becomes harrowing, Nala may prove to be more of an asset than a liability. To both the ship … and the lonely cyborg who commands her.

I am so flipping happy that Laurann Dohner has returned to her Cyborg Seduction Series! After a long hiatus, she gave us first Deviant and now Stag. It’s like she’s on fire with with this series, and I for one, couldn’t be any more pleased. This book was a page turner that had me involved from beginning to end.

This story was lively but for me it was the characters that really popped out. Stag was his same surly self that he was in Deviant’s book. I mean, he really did not like humans; not one bit. Ms. Dohner gave us a glimpse of why he felt that way, but for the most part, my feelings were torn between liking him and really needing to smack him or throw my Kindle or some other emotional outburst. I loved the story though and Nala too, and most of the other Cyborgs. Maze and Hellion really caught my interest and that’s because Laurann Dohner is so adept at giving each character, even the secondary ones, their own unique personality. I think this book would be the first time however that I’ve actually liked a secondary character more than the main one. I would really love to read Hellion’s story because he was more emotionally expressive than the rest of the Cyborgs. Like Deviant, he was considered flawed and that caught my attention. However, as smitten as I was with another Cyborg, it was Stag who put up such an entertaining fight in this one. Captain Surly Pants was downright mean at first but Nala went right back at him until he learned to trust her.

As usual, with Laurann Dohner, this book was well written. The plot was suspenseful with more twists than I had expected, the sex was scorching hot, and even some light humor thrown in there too. I loved it and can’t wait to read the next Cyborg Seduction story.

As events drive Grace and David toward a battle of epic proportions, they must risk everything — their relationship, their lives, and even their souls — to defeat an enemy who wields unspeakable psychic power.

Intuition was an interesting and unique take on characters with psychic powers. I enjoyed learning about both Grace and David, however I admit to being a little lost for awhile as I tried to piece together what had happened in book one. While I was able to (mostly) understand everything eventually, I suspect starting at the beginning would have been a better idea. Therefore, I really recommend doing so for new readers. I’ll likely go back and read the first book myself, because I really enjoyed this author’s writing style and voice.

The story was well written with plenty of great description that clearly illustrated the characters and settings throughout. I could easily picture the people (though, actually, there wasn’t a lot of description of the two protagonists) and the places, and even the things they saw psychically. Grace’s visions and astral “visits” were incredibly vivid. I also really loved Sean…he was such a perfectly created young man, full of life and angst and goofiness. She nailed his behavior for his age.

I didn’t care for the “big secret” trope used to keep the two protagonists apart. I’m not really a fan of that, typically, and in this case, they’d apparently already been through a lot in book one and were engaged. If you’re going to marry someone, shouldn’t you be able to trust them completely? If not, then do you really love them enough to spend your entire life with them? That was one of the bigger conflicts in this story, and just served to annoy me, otherwise I likely would have rated it higher.

Still, as mentioned, Ms. Durand is a solid author. I’ve not read her work before, but I’ll be seeking out more. She’s skilled and her book was clean and well composed. Aside from my niggle, above, I really enjoyed the story and hope there will be a Psychic Crossroads, Book Three. Do yourself a favor if you enjoy this genre: start with book one and enjoy!

Beau thought Aaron was dead to him… Imagine his surprise when his former lover slinks into his tattoo shop.

Eight months ago, vampire Beaudelaire Delacourte had it all. As a tattoo artist, he used his special ink and spells to permanently tattoo other immortals and spent countless hours feeding and indulging in BDSM with his human lover, Aaron. Then he asked to turn Aaron so his lover could join him permanently, but Aaron refused, not willing to give up his humanity. Since then, Beau has kept his head down and stayed in his shop, only interacting with his clients who all come for his special brand of ink.

When Aaron shows up on his doorstep, half-dead and apologizing, Beau is shocked to learn that his boy was turned at the local vampire club by Stephan, another vampire. Not only was Aaron turned, but his chest was torn open, his fangs were broken and he was left in an alley to die. Spurred by the need to see Beau one last time, Aaron has been hiding in an abandoned building until he found the strength to make it to Beau’s shop.

Beau takes his boy in again, promising that Aaron will earn his place back in Beau’s bed, and vowing that he will take revenge on Stephan. Unbeknownst to Beau, Aaron is only the first in a long line of humans who Stephan has created then turned out to fend for themselves. As Beau discovers that this is only one of the old rules that Stephan has broken, he and Aaron are drawn into a web of intrigue that can only end in someone’s death.

Beau and Aaron had broken up when Beau offered his lover immortality and Aaron refused. That was months ago, and when Aaron stumbled back into Beau’s tattoo parlour, Beau was shocked. Not only had Aaron been viciously changed, but Aaron’s fangs had been broken and the man cast aside and left for dead. Can Beau reclaim his ex lover and can the two men find their way back to each other?

I found this a fresh take on the more traditional style of vampires. While much of the world and mythology is similar to the normal style everyone knows, I loved how the book itself focused strongly on Aaron learning the ropes of vampirism. Beau takes on the role of mentor and it was interesting to effectively learn alongside Aaron. Elements of the BDSM lifestyle were closely woven in with more common vampire lore – feeding and avoiding sunlight/lasers etc. And I was delighted by the slightly rough edge Beau had. No sparkly vampires or lacy, flouncy silk shirts here!

At a few points early in the book I worried that Aaron was slightly too dependent upon Beau. While I loved how Mr Michael explained very thoroughly how weak, young and new Aaron was – so this dependency really made sense and was completely logical, Aaron’s level of reliance on Beau was deeply submissive. I have to admit though I really enjoyed watching Aaron flourish and grow strong – not just as a vampire, but also as a man and in his relationship with Beau. The pacing was near perfect for me. Slow, gradual and both men needed to work hard and earn it all. This made the whole story a real delight to me and one I know I will thoroughly enjoy reading many times to come.

This is the first of a series, and I really enjoyed the paranormal world Mr Michael has created. There were a number of very strong secondary characters who I presume will be showcased in future books. Aaron and Beau’s relationship was primary throughout the entire book and while they did find a semi-regular human man to feed from (Geoff – I dearly hope his book is one of the upcoming ones) and the feeding was fairly sexual (the M/M/M listed above) this is not a traditional ménage or a committed part to Aaron and Beau’s relationship. Aaron and Beau care for Geoff, enjoy him and feed from him, but they’re not a threesome in a relationship way. Personally, I’m hoping this leaves the door open for Geoff’s own story. Similarly – I’d love to read a story about Beau’s two siblings.

A new and lovely look on the traditional vampire story. I really enjoyed this and am eagerly awaiting new stories in this series. Highly Recommended.
