The Mermaids Melt at Dawn is a dark fairy tale from the bayou with a merfolk twist, but it is not a fairy tale for children. It is a genre-bending journey for adults and an homage to fairy tales and mythology of old.

Meet Rok, a rowdy Cajun, who hunts monsters in the swampland. From the cradle, Rok remembers hearing the legend of Barbiche Island where mermaids surf the seas and grant the wishes of a few lucky men. While it may appear to be an innocent story about childhood dreams, the swamp hags and sea witches of old remind us that appearances can be deceiving.

It has been more than a decade since viagra discount onlinehas been introduced for the first time in the world. According to a 2014 study by the Baylor University, a questionnaire developed to assess risk factors and the objects must have clear protocols to reduce the risk of falling as whole and buying tadalafil tablets individual plans for each patient. Each yarn dives deeper into the supernatural where mysteries abound and strange things happen. Rok’s obsession with Barbiche Island steers him on a nautical adventure where he battles the most powerful mermaid, but Rok is not the only creature with a story to tell. Barbiche Island is home to a pair of warring mermaid sisters, power-hungry Poseidon, petulant gods, and other mysterious monsters. The mermaids of Barbiche Island sing of love, survival, and betrayal, but will they answer the burning question? Why do the mermaids melt at dawn?

This fairy tale is for adult eyes only.

Rok’s character development was handled marvelously. There were times when I shook my head at the ways he described the mistakes he’d made in life. He had a knack for talking his way around them without addressing the matter head on, especially when it came to his unwillingness to take full responsibility for his choices. I was as fascinated by this slippery part of his personality as I would have been exasperated by it in real life. Having such an important and realistic flaw made Rok someone I always wanted to know more about no matter how much had already been revealed about him. He couldn’t have been written better.

Some portions of the storyline were narrated by characters other than Rok. As much as I enjoyed hearing from them, I would have preferred to stick with one narrator due to the fact that there were less than seventy pages in total to work with. There was simply so much material to work with that needing to jump between narrators was a little confusing for me at times even though I loved everything else about this tale.

The world building was so intricate that I actually stopped reading a few pages into it to see if I’d accidentally stumbled into the middle of a series. Learning that it was, indeed, a standalone work only endeared me to it more. I already knew I loved Ms. Soleil’s writing style from my previous experience with it. Seeing how skilled she is at creating worlds every bit as believable and complex as our only makes me more eager to see what she comes up with next.

The Mermaids Melt at Dawn was an engrossing read that I highly recommend.

Alex Ito has worked undercover for eight months – the longest stretch he’s ever done. He’s inhabited Nicky “Little Boy” Kimoto’s life for long enough now that it’s over, he’s not sure about going home to husband Bruce Amadine. What if he’s still more Nicky than Alex?

Walking along the street where they live, Alex sees a sexy, leather-clad, guyliner-eyed man coming out of their home and is taken aback. The shock doesn’t get any easier when he realizes this sexy, ready-for-play man is Bruce. Running on instinct, he follows Bruce to Chains, a BDSM club where it turns out Bruce is tending bar.

Already unsure of his welcome home, Alex feels even more distanced from Bruce and flees the club before Bruce even knows he’s there, retreating to a bad motel and the bottle, just like his undercover identity would.

When the two men finally come face to face, will Bruce be able to find Alex beneath his Nicky Kimoto skin or has this job sucked Alex into the underworld for good?

Alex and Bruce had been married for a number of years although each time Alex needed to go undercover for his job as a policeman they managed to hold everything together. This time though Alex has been gone longer than ever before, and when he finally is able to return home he’s shocked to find Bruce all geared up and heading to work as a bartender in a local leather club. Confused and unsure, can Alex and Bruce reconnect and find their way back together?

I enjoyed this sexy short story. I immediately felt a lot of empathy for Alex, who seemed more than a little burned out by his undercover work. I was pleased he’d taken retirement and was considering his options and willing to keep an open mind and try different things to return properly home – body and mind. I was also glad that after the first phone call between Alex and Bruce it was pretty clear Bruce still dearly loved Alex, but that the strain of Alex’s job and the enforced separations and stress weighed heavily on their relationship. I loved how realistic and relatable this whole relationship and scenario was and was hooked from the first chapter.

The BDSM in this story is exceptionally mild – just a bit of rimming and light spanking – readers looking for something heavier on the kink side of things sexually should look at other stories by Sean Michael. There’s a strong undertone of the BDSM lifestyle but Alex and Bruce really are only just dipping their toe in, to see if certain parts of the lifestyle would help them let Alex shed his previous personas and fully come home. I enjoyed that most of the plot revolved around Bruce and Alex re-learning how they fit together as a couple and in their home life.

This struggle for Alex of not just physically coming home – but mentally, emotionally and spiritually as well – was something that really resonated with me and grabbed at my heart. It isn’t a traditional storyline that I truly feel like the author did an amazing job with this. I really felt for Alex and adored how patient but still strong Bruce was fielding all the various tics and pitfalls. I would have really enjoyed it had this story been longer – which is one of the deepest compliments you can give a book sometimes. I didn’t want to leave Bruce and Alex and was sad when the story wrapped up. I was certainly relieved that the men reconnected well together and clearly were fully committed both to each other and their marriage – so it was absolutely a happy ending, but I really enjoyed this story and was sad for it to draw to a close.

Steamy and sexy this is a lovely, emotional and well written short story that I greatly enjoyed.

It’s starting to come together for her, finally. That is, until she gets a call that will not just change her life but shatter everything she’s come to rebuild.

Charlotte was an interesting woman. I enjoy complex characters with some kind of tragedy or hardship in their past. Her struggle to regain her sense of self was a hard one, and it’s easy to see and understand why she did some of the things she did. It was hard to see her realize her mistakes later on, however, because you know she was coming from a place of honesty.

The duo of detectives – Wolcott and Silvestri – were great. You can tell they’re pals as well as co-workers, even if they do annoy each other once in a while. They had to make tough choices and did everything they could to find the truth. Also, I both loved and hated the way one of them would discover something and then their POV would end so you didn’t know what they’d found until later. It was both evil and genius at the same time.

From the very beginning, the premise of this novel had me hooked. I’m not sure how I’d cope if some random person had me listed as their emergency contact. In Case of Emergency was a surprising thriller that caught me off guard with who the real bad guy was in the end. Every time I thought I knew what was going on, I discovered how wrong I am. I really hope that we get to see more of Detectives Wolcott and Silvestri in the future, I thought they were a great team.

Arduino comes from a family of very successful tailors. While Arduino’s father and brothers enjoy their work, Arduino dreams of taking a different path. He dreams of becoming a painter. Arduino comes from a happy home, and I love seeing healthy families represented in children and young adult books. Consequently, Arduino isn’t pursuing a dream of becoming an artist as a way to escape from home. He’s doing it because it is his passion. Despite his reluctance to disappoint his father, Arduino’s restlessness radiates off the pages. Arduino knows that becoming a painter will not be easy, but his heart is set on it. Even though his father disapproves, he arranges an apprenticeship for Arduino with Cosimo di Forli. Unfortunately, the apprenticeship is nothing like Arduino imagined.

I felt so sorry for Arduino. Cosimo is always in a foul mood and doesn’t teach Arduino anything. Instead, Arduino’s time is consumed with doing menial tasks and chores. As if that weren’t bad enough, the food is terrible, and there isn’t even room for Arduino in the bedroom with the other apprentices. I admire Arduino for putting up with it all. He has a good heart and is truly dedicated to his dream of becoming a painter. Everything changes when Arduino discovers Cosimo has a terrible secret. Arduino has a tough decision to make. Will he reveal what Cosimo has done even if it means the end of his apprenticeship, or can he find a way to do what is right and hold on to his dream?

The Apprentice is an intriguing and fast paced story. As I read with my children, they were so wrapped up in Arduino’s story that at the end of each chapter they would beg me to read more! In addition to being an engaging story, Ms. Llorente provides historical information concerning life and social customs during the Renaissance, life as an apprentice, and even a bit on the differences in the situations of men and women. All of this information is smoothly incorporated into the story so it doesn’t feel forced or slow the pacing of the story.

I enjoyed reading The Apprentice. Arduino’s story is captivating, and the ending is absolutely wonderful! Fans of children’s historical fiction would do well to give this story a try.

She wishes she could let him know the real woman, not the one she pretends to be. But Scarlet has a plan to carry out, and she can’t afford any distractions.

Absinthe is well aware that Scarlet is hiding something. She’s a puzzle he intends to solve, piece by intoxicating piece….

There is no doubt that Absinthe, the hero, needed his own HEA. Readers and fans of the Torpedo Ink series are sure to agree. He is a broken man, a damaged, hard man with mad skills in so many areas, yet he, like his brethren, yearn for something more, something that can balance the darkness trapped inside. Ms. Feehan gave him Scarlet, the librarian. What a bright light she turned out to be. And, a very big surprise.

First, I’ll touch on the writing. It’s solid. The action scenes were hard hitting, effective and powerful. The bad guys were so deviant, cruel and abhorrent, that when they received their justified comeuppance, it was boomerang brutal. That which they did to kids, and other innocents, was visited back upon them. The victim with the most loss was the heroine herself, Scarlet. It’s tragic and yet all too believable. Criminals with money seem to think that they can get away with anything. I wish there were heroes like Torpedo Ink out there – making the difference for those without voices. True, their methods are outside of accepted practices, and that’s an understatement. Then there is the paranormal element regarding the brothers and sisters of Torpedo Ink’s skills or ‘powers’. Sometimes I wish things like that were real. As uncomfortable as I might be with the descriptions, the end result delivers closure, permanent closure. For criminals like the ones in this book, that’s a good thing. Ms. Feehan has a way of writing that grabs my attention and keeps it even while she’s describing some heinous activity or scene. There is no way a reader can be unmoved by her characters’ pain and demands for justice.

Absinthe was shaped by the criminals he was forced to be tutored under from a young child to a young adult. That kind of stuff is hard to read. At times, extremely hard to read. It is in every book of the series. More details get dropped in each installment and it always amazes me that they are as sane as they are. Yet, all those hardships they survived keeps feeding the yearning in me for all of them to find their happy ever afters. It’s said that there is someone out there for everyone – and Scarlet has to be one in a million. I say that, not just because she’s a strong, and surprisingly skilled heroine, but because she is perfect for the hero. She has some unusual needs also and although not initially at the level as the hero’s needs, she is more than game enough to not only try, but to be the absolute best.

Here is where I have a hard time writing what I want to say. I heard that Ms. Feehan knows perfectly well that the kind of things that Absinthe needs Scarlet to do, might be a tad controversial, even hard to read for some. It plunks the story smack dab in the middle of erotica fetishes. It’s a hard-to-read fetish that drives the hero, and again, knowing what he was exposed to for all of his formative years, it shouldn’t come as a surprise. There is not one member of Torpedo Ink that hasn’t been damaged in that way. The need however, is different for each one. I’m assuming that the author had to do some serious research to get the details as vivid as she did in the story. It’s consensual, no two ways about it. It’s also not something that I even knew existed! So, on one hand, I saw the beauty in the jeweled gifts that Absinthe gave to Scarlet. Their meaning, and the amazing talents of the craftsman who made them, meant that they were all the more precious. On the other hand, it’s a very demanding fetish for the partner, on a level I just didn’t understand. Nor do I wish to. It’s enough for me to know that Scarlet has within her personality the needs that exactly match the needs of the hero. It’s their HEA and it works.

I know that there are many, many fans that are going to write reviews more glowing than mine. I did enjoy the story. I’m so happy Absinthe has found love. I think Scarlett is wonderful for him. Ms. Feehan’s skills as a storyteller are honed to a fine point and her exploration into the various fetishes that exist in the world must sometimes be eye-raising and perhaps quite stimulating. She knows how to match them to her heroes quite well. I’ll read the next book in the series because I’m hoping it’s going to be Savage’s turn. That man’s story is sure to be a challenge for me to read as well, but I’m up for it. I may not feel 100% comfortable with portions of Desolation Road, but that doesn’t mean I won’t recommend it to someone. I most certainly will. Everyone in Torpedo Ink has earned their right to an HEA and Ms. Feehan always delivers.

Packed with action and romance, Publish or Perish had more twists than and M. Night Shyamalan film! The well rounded characters each hold a purpose within the ever turning plot, making it nearly impossible to guess every aspect of this intricately written case. Luckily for us as the readers, this book is impeccably edited, hindering nothing in the process of this story being told, thus leaving only the question: who done it?

While we may not know until the very end who could be behind all of the crime in this book, we certainly know who done it when it comes to passionate encounters, not having to read between the lines for the intensely sexy among these sometimes dire circumstances. Not a single person in the narrative or out will be left unsatisfied by reading Blaisdell’s work.

All of the characters have a natural rapport that is at times both humorous and heartwarming. We know when reading that at least someone has to be the villain, but it was easy to enjoy the relationships that each character’s presence created. This rapport did a lot for the growth and understanding of each character, which enhanced the read by the nth degree.

Publish or Perish by Kerry Blaisdell will fulfill the desire of an exciting romance, a startling mystery, and a heartwarming novel of family all in one go. Impossible to put down, and an absolute thrill to read. I can’t wait to get my hands on more of her work!

A body, bones, plus a dog and cat? This has got to be good.

I picked up this book because I was in the mood for a mystery with animals as at least side players. This book didn’t disappoint. I loved how the characters are devoted to their cat and dog. Plus, the cat was named Endora. How can you not like that? The writing flowed well and while I had to put the book down a couple times (I had to sleep!), it was easy enough to pick back up and I wanted to know what would happen next. I did get emotionally involved with the characters. I had to know what would happen and whodunit.

The mystery was tougher to figure out than I had expected, but that’s good. I tend to read mysteries to be entertained, so I’m not looking for the clues throughout. Others might unravel this story easier and that’s okay. It’s a complicated story, but moves fast and worth the read.

If you want a mystery that’s fun, then this is the book for you.

Darrell Henshaw, the paranormal-sensitive first introduced in Overbeck’s Blood on the Chesapeake returns in another intriguing mystery, Crimson At Cape May.

Henshaw, caught in a difficult and unfair personal situation, is confronted with an old wrong, possibly a crime. We see him struggle to cope with both intrigue and ghosts as he sets about solving a missing-person case that might reveal a crime.

Henshaw’s character is immediately interesting, and his surroundings are so well described that the story is for me, completely believable. I fear that fans of mysteries might shy from picking up a book with that one word attached: paranormal. Yet, this mystery-lover was completely engaged by the intrigue and I suspect that fans of the paranormal will be entirely satisfied with this tale, as well.

Weirdly enough, it is some of the secondary characters, (especially those who seem to hate Henshaw) who help create a very ‘real’ environment. Oh, sure… the friends, Sara, Al, and Cassie are all important and it seems nothing speaks truer than hate, blame, and rage. And, of course, Henshaw hears how ruthless townfolk believe he is. And what the love of his life thinks of him… no giveaways here, but know: Emotions stomp their way out of this one!

Of course, there is something of a romance in this one, but the main story here is everything. Crimson at Cape May delivers an unpredictable mystery along with a powerful look at people, too.
